    ROCK & ROLL
Exhilarating music, culture, and hardcore history I've never heard before. Big fan here. I really enjoy following along. The secret information and the Hollywood stories are INSANE! Rich smut, serious depravity, and luridly lewd hard knock sensibilities told in such a smooth, sensational, & stylish way? This has changed my listening enjoyment forever. It’s a vision-but more than just that? It’s a feeling. Riding along (wingman style)…and what a ride it is.

    Ok but no cigar
If the host would put his subjects front and center instead of himself and his theatrics this could be a great show. As it is, it’s cartoonish, eye-role inducing cringe. The content is there but personally I don’t need an injection of hipster-filtered-jazz-hands to grasp a biography. Calm down and be cool.

    No new content
It feels lazy to just keep putting out “rewinds”. If there isn’t new content, stop spamming us. I was a fan of all the Double Elvis shows so all the “rewinds” are exhausting

    Tired
I’m tired of all the rewinds and re-releases. Is this some tactic to get the downloads up?

    Fan Forever
I’ve been listening to the show for years, and I absolutely love the new episodes, especially Anthony Bourdain! Sometimes the truth hurts, but I was happy to hear this side of it! Keep on rocking Jake!!!

    Excellent story teller
This man has a gift, love his intros, incredibly thorough breakdowns and backstories of famous people. I’m hooked for sure.

    Great podcasts, fresh content needed
Love both Disgraceland and Badlands! But, dude…. New episodes! lol

    The misogyny leapt out
I generally love your show, but you all but blaming Asia Argento for the suicide of a known depressive ADULT Anthony Bourdain was nasty work. I’m not an Argento apologist, far from it. I don’t particularly like her, but blaming someone who has a long history of being abused since she was a child for the mental illness of someone else, is, and I say this as a sufferer of depression, gross. If you thought you were being nuanced, you failed.

Been listening for a while but dude, the Anthony Bourdain episode was exceptional!!

    So well done!
I’ve been binging this podcast and Disgraceland ever since I came across Jake Brennan on another podcast. The writing is fantastic! Keep up the great work Mr. Brennan!!

    Always a good story
Not sure how I found this podcast, but I’m glad I did. This podcast has it all. Great storytelling, short episodes, and always entertaining.

    Love this podcast! Great storytelling
Jake is my fav host. I love the intrigue and storytelling by in Badlands and Disgraceland pods. Thanks for making it exciting, Jake! I also love the rock theme but mixing it up with movies and actors has been fun.

    Love!!!!!
I absolutely love and recommend this podcast the stories that you think you know but really don’t know all the details and it’s told in such a wonderful way. The telling of each part of history is intriguing & interesting. You go away from each episode having a bit more knowledge. Not to mention his dreamy voice :)

    Surprised ratings are low!!!!
A few episodes in and I think this is a awesome podcast. I'm so glad another podcast I listen too (shout out to My Favorite Murder!!) had the host on as a guest. I love his voice and the episodes choices are great! Give it a try ***for people who rate because of someone's voice it can be very misleading to people. If I would have just looked at the ratings I'd have missed a great podcast.

Got me to write a review
Jake, you’re a genius! This is a phenomenal podcast and you inspired me to bother to write a review so you could know how much I appreciate your work.
  • Shabu82
Wow - the Alex Rocco episode was incredible
One of my favorite movies of all time is The Godfather. Wonderful tidbits about the supporting actors and their real involvement with organized crime. Great side story about the great Robert Mitchum getting schooled by a member of the Winterhill gang.

    Great
    All Jake’s shows are excellent

Interesting way to tell their stories
I love this podcast and look forward to new episodes every week. It’s so fascinating to hear the little known facts & stories you’d never guess came from such huge stars. I love the way the stories are told as well- the format is unlike any other podcast I listen to.
  • jtoxx
    Mush-mouthed host makes it unlistenable
I love the content, but the lazy diction of the mush-mouthed host makes about half of the episodes unlistenable for me. In some later episodes he speaks like he’s taking it a bit more seriously, and those are much better. Such a shame—I’d give it 4/5 stars if the host could just speak like he had some brains.

    Still deciding
I’m listening to the early episodes. The complaints about the style of narration just go to show that people have different preferences. For me, it works. But I do agree with others about the over-the-top swearing. It’s one thing if it comes in naturally and believably, but too often it seems gratuitous and like a kid who just started swearing and now does it way too often and without context. I really hope there’s some improvement on this as the show goes along. I’m concerned by reviews saying you seem a little too enthusiastic about horrible things, especially violence. Sure hope that’s not the case when I get to those episodes, or I won’t be hanging in.

    Alexander Williams
    This was the best episode ever; Also F beating kids with pans & belts; F forcing medication; F not accepting mental illness as a defense; F life sentences for minors F the death penalty & May the Lord have mercy on the 16 year old child that fell into the path of 17 year old child Alexander Williams;

    Jayne Mansfield
Jayne was NOT decapitated!!! What they thought was her head was actually where her wig flew off due to the force of the impact. STOP perpetuating this urban legend! Think about how these lies affect her family.

    Jake’s performance
Jake’s vocal performance is among the very best in all of podcasting. There are lots of podcasts out there, and many of them are very very good but unfortunately, the authors don’t have the voices for audio. They are brilliant writers, but they can’t perform the show — Jake on the other hand does a magnificent job with his voice, timing and overall performance I love listening to him.
  • Jellyyjaam
    Great podcast
I really enjoy this podcast, the host is great and it’s well produced. I’m just sick of the weird opening about not being able to afford copyright to certain music n stuff *eyeroll* once you get past that it’s great.
  • Uplevelauto
Very well done but too much swearing
This is an excellent podcast! The editing, the hosts voice, the sound effects are all nicely done. The only things I don’t like are the weird opening about fair use music and not being able to afford copyrighted stuff, and sooooo much swearing. I’m not against swearing at all either, it’s just too much. It’s like a bad comedian who doesn’t have decent material so they have to swear constantly as filler. I don’t understand why the host doesn’t pay attention to the reviews and take them into account. This stuff has been mentioned before.
  • dglp42
    Right
The show mixes fact with imagination, & here lies its brilliance—the imagination part. I get wrapped up in any given show as if I were enjoying a welcome dream during a good night’s sleep; or an out-there story by Harlan Ellison. The show is original. Keep the faith, Jake.
  • TiniRebellion
Could use less safety, more punk!
Love rock & roll and every thing about it & the concept is intriguing and Jakes voice is made for this! But sometimes it feels to clean sometimes. I crave more grit, less over done sound effects, less cheesy phrasing it makes it feel forced to come off as shocking but has the reverse effect for anyone who knows these musicians backstories by heart & actually have attatchments w their music, miss Journalism like old Rolling Stone. All love though from my heart, that’s just what I think. U still get 5 stars, rockstar 💋🤙

    Sloppy research
Typically, Iike this podcast but I’m listening to the Anna Nicole episode and he keeps referring to her as “Vicky Lynn Smith” when her real name was Vicky Lynn Hogan. It’s a simple google.

    Enjoyed this show.
Until you blamed a comedian for someone’s behavior. I’ll be deleting your other show as well

    Is there no other stories.
It’s all the same stories for last 40 plus yrs. How many times has the story of the bling ring Paris Hilton Polansky Tate Manson. Spears n so on. Been retold. Like do some research. Beyond the work other ppl Did. Just like Disgraceland. Love these shows but it’s truly just recap of every other story. Just told by jake. Which is nice new perspective. But it’s always retelling of same stories

    Love host’s voice; great podcast!
One of my fave podcasts! The host’s voice is perfect for capturing that “dark side of Hollywood” gritty kind of feel. And I love the part where he says “the stories about (celebrity name) are insane.” Never gets old!

Great stories! Audio could be better
Great intriguing and funny stories! I love listening to podcasts when I go on my long walks or drives...but I can't listen to this podcast when I drive because of the inflections in the narrator's voice...the whole husky whisper thing doesn't work in a moving car. I can hardly hear anything even when I increase the volume.
  • silkysusan
    Great storytelling
Jake’s storytelling style lulls you in but packs punches. Love it. You still get 5 stars, even though the holiday movie episode annoyed me from the jump because at least 2 of you out of 3 had such a limited understanding of Love Actually, which is a classic and much more viewed and loved than several you mentioned. I stopped listening and chose to listen to other stories where Jake really shines. Classy and edgy delivery of the goods in all the tales. Addendum Dec 2022: Jake, as a storyteller you are still a true heavyweight, so much so that when you told the tale of Joe Theismann’s injury I had to stop listening and forward that part. I watched that game, and the violent carnage, and I still find it so cringe-y to remember. You brought it all right back.
  • Momafishof5
Could be better, might get worse.
Mostly good but it seems the show has become more about how cool the host can sound then about the content. I used to listen every week the day episodes came out. Now I have to decide wether I’m in the mood to listen to the host tell a story Iwould otherwise be interested in hearing.

    Stop Whining
About how you can’t afford to buy rights to music. It’s annoying, no one cares, and while it’s a good podcast, it keeps me from listening
  • Fred’s 4Ever
    Long time listener
I love all of Jake’s pods. Just have to add…Michael Abuser Vick should have rotted in prison. The only people I despise more than animal abusers are the low life’s that abuse children. And of course the NFL just out for the money. Way to show kids that you can be a scum bag and get paid well for it. But you did a great job telling the story!
  • Jen-Jen28
    Please change the intro!
The same intro for every episode is very overplayed, please change it!! The episodes are wonderful, I just can’t listen to those intros anymore
  • Bschora
    So Confused!
When this show was doing Hollywoodland it was easy to navigate seasons and episodes. Now it’s Badlands, Sportsland, Hollywoodland! All mixed together. I’d prefer not to listen to Sportsland, I’ve done ALL the Crime In Sports seasons and I don’t like to listen to overlapping stories. What the heck happened here?
  • god below
    Great content
The fair-use intro was cute the first time but very tedious pod after pod. Once that’s over, I enjoy the podcast but I dread the first five minutes.
  • Matt Deez nutz
    Host is bad
Interesting subjects but this host reminds me of a book on tape voice actor trying very hard to paint the scene and its not a natural sounding.
