ash_202020PaywallGood podcast, not paying for older episodes.

Teon77Riveting, Superb PodExcellent production, execution, & writing. Love listening to Lindsey!

Silly_ the KidGreat but…I love the show. I’ve listened to every season, many multiple times. It’s rare to find a show as entertaining as educational. Having to pay for previous seasons is such a disappointment. If I had the discretionary income to do so it would be nice. Another one bites the dust.

ProsecutorsWillBeViolatedWas good till it wasn’t free. Not even gonna give them money to listen to this show. Had a couple decent seasons but if all the commercials don’t pay to publish this show then oh well. Not worth paying for.

oldtimesmellyboatDisgusting/dangerous ethicsPaywall of old episodes is a joke but even worse is one of their sponsors. I get needing sponsors and commercials but when they hawk dangerous “health” apps and then the host claims that weight loss drugs from said app really work. Ummm what is your medical training? An app where you never see an actual dietitian or doctor just “providers” and NP’s with questionable qualifications and NO clinical experience. Said app has MULTIPLE LAWSUITS and literally tells women the only way to lose weight without drugs is to participate in disordered eating and giving starvation diet plans to breastfeeding women!! Real Doctors & nutritionists have come out and said the app and their diet plans are divorced from actual science!! Yep that's who I want giving out prescription drugs!! The host claims to research his episodes but apparently if you toss a few sponsorship bucks their way they will shill DANGEROUS scam health apps that have caused harm to thousands of women. Done with this show. Don't care how good it is.

Jesus___FreakA lot to like - curious problemNot sure what is going on but season 56 had been downloaded free, now some episodes are paywalled.
-
Vicaahill86Episodes out of orderSeries 47 - the last episode is not from series 47. So no end to series 47. HELP

MurdadockExcessive AdvertisementsThis podcast is very well made, from the research to the performance. But each episode is inundated with advertisements, probably 25% or more of a single episode is ads. It’s super frustrating. In comparison to similarly made podcasts, this is excessive to say the least. There are better options for podcasts with far less ads. Concerning the paywall, I understand the concept. But it is not a valuable investment in comparison to other entertainment apps. Hard pass.

HeckboundUnavailable to the PoorsGreat Podcast! I listened to a random one, liked it, and looked to the beginning. Half the story, of each season, is behind a paywall, so I unsubscribed. So many other free podcast content available, so I won’t be back.
-
kelliednnExcellentBest podcast ever!! Very well written, great voice, great music!! Very entertaining stories!!

BschoraSolid, educational, great storytelling. One criticism, I really dislike the Encores. If you need to skip a season, skip a season, or just tell me to go re-listen to the old season…. But to make me Mark every episode “Played” just to get it off my Unplayed list when I don’t want to replay it is ridiculous. It’s already hard enough to organize 167 podcasts. Yours isn’t the only one on the block. About Subscriptions: Subscriptions. I would gladly pay to STOP Advertisements! Ads are obnoxious, I prefer to listen to them in Dutch or German. However, there are 247 podcasts in my library. No way could I afford to pay each even $1 a month. When will podcast platforms learn they need to provide a service that takes the amount of money I can afford to donate and divide it between the shows I played in a given month. ??? Hello? Is there anyone out there listening? The current subscription model doesn’t work.

ricmorgan81Well darn it…..Love this show, and others! But, as predicted, Wondery has gone out of control with the paywall. I completely understand paywalls for early listening and special episodes, etc….. but putting the old ones behind the wall is just dirty. Good luck getting new listeners when they see they have to pay. For every listener that will pay to start, there are 5 that will say “no thanks”. So, in the spirit of the latest season, Bye Bye Bye Bye!!!

AGN24-1good pod but questiondid he say final episode for ever or till the next election?
-
BRE0509Another good oneLindsay Graham, you’ve done it again! I didn’t know if anything could hold to American History Tellers. This is an excellent match. I just wish I could listen to the other seasons without Wondery+, I’m confused about that.
-
wantmorejusticeLindsay Graham is a wonderful narratorI could listen to Lindsay narrate almost anything, his voice is so soothing. This podcast isn’t just anything though . It’s true stories told in a very interesting way . Even subjects I did not think I was interested in ,become compelling , because told well .

WhidjrdkdddkgcBummerThis is an amazing podcast. I love how it lays out everything, it humanizes the characters and it frames it in such a way that it all makes logical sense to that person’s perspective. This was a podcast I would listen to while working, traveling, chores, anything, and it was a tradition that me and my stepdad would listen to it while driving. I connected with a coworker when we realized we both loved the podcast. I shared it with family and friends. I think this is one of the best podcasts out there, the bummer is just the paywall. Unfortunately I just cannot afford it, and it’s super disappointing. There seems to be a lot of hard work and production that goes into each episode and I understand that they want to get their return, I just wish there was any other way to incentivize people joining wondery. Looking back this podcast was too good to be true, and now it’s basically gone. I will definitely still excitedly wait for every Tuesday upload, but it will always be sad knowing that I can only listen to 10% of the podcast.
-
M1ck3ykWhyyyyGenuinely love this show but c’mon a paywall?! Boooooooooooooo. Please be free again.
-
NewsJunky101Paywall? No thanks. In a time when we’re about to hit economic hardship, you guys decide to put on a paywall? Scummy practice. No longer for me.
-
AHA1914Great listenI never thought I would willingly listen to a podcast series about the Colorado River Authority, but Lindsay Graham can make any topic interesting- highly recommend!
-
The $7865firstSubscription Required? Well, bye.Seriously love this show. Ads are on this show and I put up with it because I love the content so much. You’re welcome for that ad revenue. Now, I have to pay to listen to old episodes and the few episodes I can still listen to for free still has ads? Well, bye then. Greed.

INSOMNIATICPaywallHit with a paywall. Lost a listener

🫤🤷🏽♀️Love Lindsay but not paywallLong time listener that just unfollowed. Listened to this show, American History Tellers, and American Elections: Wicked Game. He’s the perfect host and I would always recommend his shows and replay old seasons. I will no longer follow the shows listed above due to the paywall. I have enough subscriptions and enough apps. I don’t see it necessary or financially responsible to add anymore. End of an era.
-
Gwyneth D-FEngaging and so interestingMy standby when driving. Keeps me interested, awake and learning! I really appreciate the way the podcast is organized so I can follow it easily thx!
-
Mr dependable44Pay wallI loved the podcast until the pay wall. I’m willing to deal with the ads. Can’t afford another bill. Hopefully you guys will reconsider.
-
oliver tauteHappy Halloween folksEver since the paywall got put up, every one who is just discovering the podcast won’t be able to to listen to more than one episode. Mr gram- why did you put up a paywall? People can’t by groceries. This might be the only thang that puts them to sleep at night. Shame on you.And if you do this to your other podcasts I won’t listen to wonders anymore.
-
MelankieHOW DARE YOUHow dare you put a paywall up! If you dare to do this release all the espoids for the month at the same time at least. I hate this because this is my favorite podcast here and it’s ruined. How dare you!
-
Upset😡😡😡Lindsy is great, Wondery not so muchLindsy is wonderful, Wondery not so much. It’s a shame this podcast is produced by Wondery, as there new paywall policy will ultimately only hurt their creators.
-
Cc123987hPaywallLoved this podcast until the paywall. Monetizing in every way possible (so many ads, early access and now this) really takes away from the listening experience.

Crump, T.Love/Hate with WonderyI absolutely LOVE shows on Wondery and I LOVE American Scandal. I just wish I could finish a series. Wondery automatically does the “up next” so I start it only to realize I can only hear episode one unless I pay. I’m sorry, but everybody gives the option to pay or not. Wondery keeps getting me every time… I go away and then I hear about a show and I go and listen. Sometimes you can make to episode 3 of a series and sometimes just one or two. I only had 15 minutes left of the Jonestown episode 3. Now not only can I not finish episode 3 but I can’t finish the series without paying. “Up next” was dust bowl today and I started it on the way home only to find out I can’t hear anymore episodes without paying. It’s my own fault because I keep falling for it, BUT I also blame Wondery for trying to force me to pay to listen to the podcast. Their podcasts are amazing, but there are plenty of others that are too and they are free. Sooo many subscription services I just can’t do another when there are free options out there. I’ve dealt with it for quite a while, but not letting me listen to the last 15 minutes of the episode and then suggesting another that I’ll have to pay for was enough for me to come here and leave my thoughts. Lindsay says he reads every comment. I hope that’s true and you guys find a way to not close people out over your insistence on paying monthly. To lock me out with 15 minutes is just ridiculous, pointless and all you did was upset an avid listener.
-
EmmgoPaywall is a problemIf you like to binge your podcasts- skip this one. Really disappointed that they moved the older episodes behind a paywall.
-
Fergie V.Much loved podcastOne of my favourite podcasts, well paced and written. I think it’s much better than its counterpart, British Scandals, in terms of presentation style, this one is more natural and no-cringey attempts at humour. I also enjoy this podcast more than other similar America-centric podcasts, hope this keeps going on and on, i can’t wait for every drop, seems to take too long.

mfs123321Held 12-year olds attention for a 3 hour car ride!I’ve been listening to this on and off for a couple years (after finding Lindsay Graham through the outstanding 1865 audio play) and while I personally often find myself wanting a less simplified story and more backstory to each series, the experience from today stands alone. We were taking five 12-year olds back from a weekend trip and I put on the Cuban Missile Crisis series, thinking that there is no way they will let me listen to a whole episode of this. After 15 minutes, they demanded that we play the entire season on the rest of the 3-hour trip. One of my sons declared it “intense” and the other said he “couldn’t wait to hear what happened next”. Their friends were upset when we had only 12 minutes left in episode 5 and had to drop them off. Wow!

wF42O1Astros Season 66Awesome!!!! Well told story all seasons are the same well spoken and a Great Listen!!!! Love it
-
irene👍❤️💎HauntingWow. Listened to season 7 about Ebola which was published less than a year before the COVID-19 outbreak. We could have learned from history.
-
DeeNailIncredibly Well MadeSome of the seasons will be more interesting than others depending on subject matter preferences, but I literally can not imagine another human being as good at this as is the host.

BellamtothVideo could never kill this radio starLindsay Graham, I will say it once and a million times more, has done wonders for the audio experience. I’m 25 for the longest time I thought why listen to historical stuff I wouldn’t understand? The team behind this show makes historical stories accessible to anyone who can listen- down the the simplistic yet effective way he plays each character using one voice allows you to follow along in a way you don’t lose interest and the star characters don’t blur all together. I’m so picky about my podcasts cause they have to be engaging, not annoying, the voices and stories gotta sound just right and I can’t think of one friend I haven’t told about this podcast and if you are thinking wow let me read reveiws to see if I would like this podcast, just stop, and play it already. I don’t even listen on this platform, I just had to leave a review cause I love it that much.
-
idontknowYIdea for series!Just changed my 5 star review to 1 star due to paywall. This podcast already has excessive ads, including one for the scam rocket money. Down with wonder, down with American scandal. Sadly Do a series about paid for podcast services (stitcher premium, etc). Perfect for American scandal or the American greed Tv show.
-
bohosoul77What a disgraceI've loved American Scandal, but the decision to put it behind a paywall is a disgrace. Those just discovering the podcast will not be able to listen to older episodes. Mr. Graham - the economy is in terrible shape. People can't afford groceries and yet you feel this is a good time to implement a paywall? Shame on you.
-
MarcusProbus282Amazing ShowThis show is excellently written, read, and produced! I've loved learning more about scandals I thought I knew about and scandals I'd never heard of. I'd love for yall to consider writing future series about the Anthrax mail attacks and the Kent state shootings!
-
princessemily587LOVE LOVE LOVEThis has become one of my most favorite podcasts! I love how sources are cited at the end so you know good research was conducted before writing the season. I love when the last episode is someone who was directly connected to the event we just learned about. So good!!
-
MaryMac62Love this podcast!I recommend your podcast often.
-
Brody HastingsAmazingThis one of my favorites in podcasts. I love American history and my favorite season 59 I think it’s really well constructed I hope you keep up the amazing show and I hope you soon do a season on NC.

seth detroitIran episode is utter nonsenseAfter accurately explaining that the reason the US ran a coup on Iran to remove the democratically elected leader just because he wanted to take back his own oil fields from the British, the guest explains that this was because during the cold war the US had the hubris to act upon their Ideals instead of their self interest, and that THAT was their mistake. So either the guest lacks an understanding of how nations taking back their oil fields from foreign corporations would be a direct threat to billionaire corporate interests in the US, or he is out to try and create some confusing alternative narrative to protect those interests, under the guise of “best intentions”. But it’s the most ridiculous cover - who would believe that America installed a dictator, ended democracy, and stole oil back in Iran to advance American “ideals.” And he keeps going on about how we should be proud of our “ideals”, which is all well and good, but what does that have to do with promoting dictatorship and corporate plunder? Are those really the ideals he wants to uplift? This was all in the first 15 minutes. It was like watching someone play twister by themselves. Why can’t you just say it? Corporate interest in Britain and the US had a collective interest to stop the nationalization of oil from happening, and our political systems are very much influenced by those interests so a coup was created. Without setting a proper foundation, there is no point in listening to the rest of this.

FolsomDoriAlways InterestingThis podcast gives me deeper insight into events I even lived through! I always enjoy the experts you interview in the last segment of each season.
-
pinpillage_rayGet ready to bingeVery entertaining. Hard to listen to at night because it excites me too much! Great job

Beth0301Outstanding PodcastThis podcast is so well done! I highly recommend it! Lindsay Graham masterfully guides the listener through some of the biggest stories and parts of our history! Love it!!

schmir80Gem of a podcastListened to the Boeing season and was hooked. I am now in the process of bingeing every season. The format is unique and easy to follow. The host is easy to listen to and does a great job of delivering facts in an engaging way. Almost like being told a story, but it’s all history! The 4-5 episodes per topic is perfect. I’m addicted!

EasternOregonRobert HanssenI enjoy reading, watching & listening to anything non-fiction spy-related & this story was great - passed up doing my chores to listen & now I have a sink full of dirty dishes & my fingernails are looking short💅🏼. I’m always thinking how anyone could live with themselves always wondering if they’ll be caught. I get a stomach ache if I think I have a plumbing leak in the house so it’s unimaginable to me how people live under that kind of day-to-day pressure. I would probably have a heart attack after one day if I had to be a spy! I recently finished a book that I wonder if you have read The Spy & the Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War by Ben Macintyre - non-fiction true story of top Soviet spy who turned for the UK, Oleg Gordievsky. Published 2019 after the release of Cold War documents. This is a man who lived under tremendous pressure pretty much his whole life so he could pass info to the UK. I couldn’t put this book down! And I listen to all your stories - enjoy them immensely, especially like that you include an author or someone in the know at the end.

taylorswiftl👩🏿In a class by itselfDear Mr Graham, At the end of a “Boeing” episode you said you read each review. After completing the “Boeing” I knew I had to write this review. You and your team took a complicated, recent topic, that I followed in the news but I must admit, I did not fully understand, and made it such that I can now very knowledgeably speak about it and the history of Boeing overall. Thank you for this and all the excellent history podcasts you all do. “Boeing” was top notch stuff. And to those who haven’t listened to it yet, man do I envy you that first listen.
