    Where’s the positive in it?
After listening to the episode, I found you to be your super positive self Antrese; however, Amy was super negative about so many things. Not at all speaking about how she tries to lift up her students, only talking about seemingly how bothered she was by her students that happened to be lawyers. Couldn’t she also talk about how she inspired students like you do? Maybe helped them to see that they could think of their work as good?

I devour every episode. This is an incredible podcast tailored to artists who are dedicated to growing their art practice. Thank you Antrese!

    So glad you’re back, Antrese.
Welcome back. Hope your new space is everything you need. I had grown accustomed to your voice while working in my studio. Didn’t know how important your podcast was till it wasn’t. Really looking forward to more episodes.

    Have been missing this podcast!
I've been missing this podcast a lot. Used to listen to it all the time. While it was on break I would think about it occasionally and wonder if it would ever come back. The last couple of days it's been on my mind and I'm so so so excited that it is back today and also that I might have a little bit of extra sensory perception.

Antrese is the voice you want in your head
As a painter who has had her life upended too many times, getting back into it can feel like climbing the same mountain again and again without a trail and never reaching the top. You lose touch with friends, live in places where you don’t fit in. Putting on headphones and walking with Antrese and her interviews in your head is like being in a community again. I’m working my way up from the earliest podcasts. It’s a nice place to be.

More than art this is supportive of a healthy mindset

Words can’t adequately describe this podcast!
Antrese gets to the heart of the matter while simultaneously offering a different perspective to explore. Pick a subject that any artist struggles with- and it’s probably presented here with more truth and love than our beautiful divergent minds can absorb in one sitting. Thank you so much!

Antrese is a gift that keeps on giving
Antrese’s podcast and coaching is a pivot point in my life. It has been a journey, yes, but more a moment in time when I turned towards trusting my artist. When I started listening to myself and acting on what I love, as many hours in the day as I can. Antrese is blessed with a thoughtful, brilliant, kind and loving mind. Her laser focus on what is the crux of an issue lands me where I need to be. A great gift to me and many others I am sure.

It’s as if she peeked into my soul!
“Artist are awe hunters”. This episode truly opened my eyes to how I view my experiences as ordinary. And somehow neglect to include them in my art. As a mother who has to keep it together, I find myself scattered when it comes to my art. This reminded me to loosen up and remain centered. Thank you!

    A thought provoking podcast
This is by far the most helpful, creative, and thought provoking podcast I’ve ever come across. Every episode gives me new ways to look at my art practice, and life in general. Antrese shares in a way that feels entirely genuine and personal. The topics feel fresh, and even when treading familiar paths, she always brings a new twist or insight. My only challenge when listening to her podcast is that I have a hard time paying attention. Often she will say something that causes my mind to get all excited and to race off in response. Thank goodness for “rewind”! And thank you Antrese for your generosity in creating and sharing this podcast.

    A HUGE help to me!
I love listening to this show. It’s one of the few that, if my podcast player keeps giving me more episodes of it in a row, I don’t mind a bit. It is exactly what I need to learn to believe in my own creativity.

    Essential
This podcast rules. I’ve been a longtime listener now, and the quality of content is rich. Antrese has put together something really special, and the guests she has are top notch artists. It’s nice to get the inside scoop of what other artists are up to. As an artist myself, I find it useful and it helps me feel less alone knowing that there are so many like minded individuals out there making work.

    Gives me encouragement
I am an artist that found art after I did a lot of therapy and inner work. Once I learned to be kind to myself and give permission to create I haven’t stopped! This podcast reminds me of how to lovingly show up and create. I love how she always brings you back to the why you paint and how important it is to us and others. Can wait to listen to all the episodes!!!

    Inspired
I always love listening to Antrese when I’m in my home studio painting. She is always inspiring and seems to come from a place of genuinely just wanting to help. She has dug me out of some painting slumps and encourages my good wolf to come out and play. Thank you!

    Makes me mad
A lot of pop psychology that comes from a place of privilege. A lot of it feels invalidating to someone trying to balance an art practice with making ends meet. Why does everyone like this?

    Habit forming.
I truly LOVE this podcast! So many interesting and invaluable insights into the lives, processes, techniques, thoughts and philosophies of other artists. As an artist, I know there are constant "brain bombs" that we have to deal with relating to self assessment, confidence, discipline, time management, and so many other personal issues that affect our work. The interviews that Antrese does reveal priceless ideas and revelations that help to diffuse those bombs and make you think about how to advance in your artistic career. Since discovering The Savvy Painter I find myself constantly digging backwards through the archives of past shows, discovering more and more great info and inspiration. Thanks, Antrese, I’m hooked! 01/2022 - A little update… I like the recent run of shorter, what I think of as “self help” podcasts that are delving into personal issues artists face like self confidence, time management, being committed, etc. but I really hope you get back to the in depth interviews with artists. I love those and get so much information and inspiration out of the interviews.

    I Love Your Podcast
A couple of months ago, I searched ‘Painting podcast” and find you. I was so excited. I began painting acrylics in June 2021. I’ve never painted anything except walls! So far, I have painted 27 pieces. I’m retired from academia and learning with every stroke of the brush. And I wanted to learn from artists. So glad I found The Savvy Painter. I’m learning so much from you and your guests. Very inspirational! I listen during my walks and long runs. I’m an ultra runner and now a painter, too! I just listened to your recent 2022 podcast. Continue with your podcast. I have a lot of catching up and listening and learning to do. Happy New Year!

    I almost passed this !!
I started working a job that wasn’t in my field, right after college. I lost touch with painting and just art overall. I work so much I barely have time to paint. So I started listening to podcasts about art and all things related. I never really found anything I liked until I came across this podcast. It has made me feel so connected to art again and even inspiring me to keep pushing no matter how tired I am. I love the interviews and the diverse conversations and artists that are picked. Your podcast is just so awesome to listen too and I love that I can listen to something from 2019 and it still feels so relevant to today. You ain’t regret this podcast at all. And there is nothing like it

    This is a wonderful resource
I listen to this show when I am in the mood for painting, or even just thinking about it. Antrese and her guests cover such a broad range of topics that I find myself continually discovering new things, while still getting to indulge in my painterly fancies. Thanks so much for your contribution to the art world everyone.

    The exact right words
I listened to this podcast twice. I needed exactly ALL the words you were speaking. Thank you! I hope you’re able to make sooner rather than later! Please keep doing what you’re doing…it’s awesome. (And yes I’m going to leave this as a review so the silly iTunes Gods know how we feel to)

    A must for painters
I continue to learn listening to painters share their process and motivations. Antrese is delightful to listen to, her passion for creating is palpable. (I still can’t locate where to donate..... help?)

    Addicted
Savvy Painter podcast is my new addiction. Thank you Antrese for sharing your knowledge, experience, and positivity. All interviews are informative and engaging. Was amazing to actually “meeting” the artists whose work I already admire, and being introduced to many new names. I listen to Savvy Painter almost every day when I paint (there are many episodes in the archives), and recommend it to all my friends students. Thank you!

A very important addition to your learning if your looking for insight
As a artist/ full time teacher and mother I have found this podcast very inspirational. It is packed with motivational conversations that we as artists need and crave to grow in our creative journey . I have learned so much about the universal nature of our creative struggles and how other artists have preserved through commitment and authenticity. Very worth your time!

Sick of you glossing over the complexities of inequality
I’ve listened to this podcast for about 4 years now, I don’t think there’s an episode I’ve missed. You had Dean Mitchell, one of my favorite artists you’ve interviewed, on for the 3rd time along with two women. One of them was a dealer/curator who couldn’t stop patting by herself on the back for her role in getting No Way Out into a museum. Fine. I get it’s an industry that’s been hit hard due to Covid and social media. But when she starts talking about how the way to deal with racial and gender discrepancies in museums and the art world is to “focus on excellence / the work” without acknowledging that people who have their basic material and social needs met ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE MORE AND BETTER WORK ON AVERAGE than people who do not I had to switch it off. Class and disability intersect powerfully with race and gender in our society in a way that also explains these discrepancies and I’m really sick of your unwillingness to acknowledge that EVER in your podcast, including when Dean Mitchell first tried to politely point that out to you in his first appearance. Your response was “I think one of the worst things you can do is take away someone’s hope”, which is another way of saying it’s too uncomfortable to acknowledge the reality of how class divides (which land strongly on race and gender lines) actually effect people’s mental and physical health, their stamina, and their ability to think straight. These things demonstrably impact a person’s ability to have an art career. Hope could be created by talking honestly about these things so we can work to correct them. If the political/economic implications of that are too divisive for you, you’re not ready to have “the conversations” you think you are. Dean Mitchell is extremely talented, met the right people numerous times in his life, is objectively attractive, and didn't develop any serious mental or physical illnesses or long term housing issues as a result of growing up black and poor that impacted his ability to make and market his work. Statistically speaking, he’s very lucky. As a female artist whose had their work in a museum before but has no actual career due to disability exacerbated by a lifetime of poverty and housing insecurity I’m asking you to stop with the simplistic white feminist notions of why we still don’t see more black, female, and queer “excellence” in museums. It’s not because people aren’t talking about it, it’s because people with power and platforms (like you and many of your guests) are willfully ignoring the impact of socioeconomics on health and ability. It’s irresponsible and does more harm than good when trying to “have conversations about equity within the art world” with self-satisfied upper middle class curators. Please do better Antrese.

My Artist community in a Podcast - Love!!!
I’m so thankful I finally started listening to this podcast I subscribed to quite a bit ago. I have been binge-listening through all the amazing content. I live in the country in the small town of Juliette and while I’ve found a couple other artists here and there the community of like minded folks who want to get nerdy about supplies, talk about inspiration and blocks, discuss concepts and big ideas have been missing. These far reaching discussions and multi disciplined and career stage artists have been refreshing and have given me that connection I’ve so needed lately. Thank you to the Savvy painter team and Antrese for pouring your hearts and passion into these episodes!!! Here’s to staying curious all together!

I did not like podcasts until I found this one. I love how Antrese doesn’t waste time on a lot of preamble, there’s not ten minutes of random stuff I have to muddle through to get to the main points. She titles the episodes in a way that’s super useful too. Today I was feeling bogged down by *gestures to literally everything* and I found an episode on dealing with feelings of overwhelm. I just really appreciate how it’s so easy to find exactly what I need, get some inspiration, and go about my day. This is podcasting I can really get behind. Thank you, Antrese!

    Been a listener for years!
This is my go-to podcast to find motivation to pick up my brushes and get in my studio! The guests are dynamic, diverse, knowledgeable, abc entertaining. Antrese asks great questions and often they are the same ones that I’m dying to know from the guest. She’s a mind reader of what the audience is interested in hearing about. Looking forward to more great conversations with artists in 2021!

    Great well done art podcast
I love listening to the Savvy Painter Podcast when I am painting! Found it a couple of years ago, binged, and caught up to current time. It's comforting and inspiring to hear what other artists go through. I have listened to a few other art podcasts, but none compare the the quality of this one. Thank you Antrese for all the hard work you put into this:)

Thank you for addressing critical questions facing artists and having meaningful and insightful conversations with amazing painters. Love it!!

This pod actually showed me how to move forward
It starts with the name Antrese. Like her name, Antrese is refreshing oasis in the world of Podcasts. She brings originality, authenticity, expertise, sincerity, and an amazing amount of thoughtful insight. Add to that her ability to curate and effectively interview extremely dedicated, talented, and personable artists, makes the content of these podcasts invaluable to the creatives of the world. I have a BFA in commercial design - planned on being an illustrator. I also minored in photography. For many many years my bread-and-butter work has been graphic design. When the digital age came along, I found a great marriage between photography and creative imagery and have moved more in that direction. Sadly, I moved away from pencil or brush to paper/canvas. All through this time, getting back to painting and drawing have been sitting just below the surface and I’ve not been able to figure out why I haven’t picked up the brush or the pencil again. Listening to several of Antrese’s podcasts has helped me understand what might be holding me back. I suspect I may listen to a few of them more than once, to really get the message to sink in and make a habit of practicing every day. Finally, I love that I can listen to this podcast while I’m in my studio while printing or framing, etc. It’s been a long time since I created in an art studio surrounded by like minds. I’m so grateful Antrese is bringing me back to that wonderful place!

    Down-to-earth art podcast
The more I listen to this podcast, the more I like it. Unlike many other art podcasts, this one features interviews with present-day working artists, discussing not only their art practices and philosophy, but also how they run their businesses and live their day-to-day lives. Some of them are child-free and spend most of their waking hours painting in their studio, while others must find a balance between painting time and taking care of their families and other responsibilities. Not all of them are chart-topping, world-renowned, full-time artists (a nice change of pace), but they are wonderfully talented and successful in the ways that they want to be. I love hearing their stories and being reminded that they are real people, dealing with the same struggles (artwise and lifewise) as the rest of us. This podcast gives some really great, practical advice on running an art business and optimizing your online presence. I also really like all the useful links at the bottom of each episode’s info page so I can easily look up the featured artist as well as any other artist or site they may have mentioned as an influence during the interview. Great job and I’m really looking forward to future episodes!

    Love Antrese’s Podcasts!
Antrese has a talent in broadcasting, as well as art. She keeps the interview focused. I love to listen while I paint. Most importantly, Antrese’s episodes where she encourages artists to keep going, our work matters- those help me immensely! I am forever grateful for Antrese’s podcasts!!

I LOVE Savvy Painter Podcast and have been listening now for several years. Antrese dishes up so much good fuel for our art, our business and our heads! The artist interviews feel so genuine and you get such a sense of what each artist is about and what they are like as a person. I love learning so much useful info here (from how Gamblin Torrit Gray got it's name to how artists balance their work and lives) as well as thinking so often, "I'm not the only one!!" or "Oh cool! I need to try that!" Keep up the great work and thank you for always keeping it real, Antrese!

    An everyday motivation
Antrese’s podcast is my everyday therapy. She is full of genuine advice, great questions, purposeful reasoning and just a great overall pep talk that really brings me out of my cloudy states and beats my inner saboteur with super helpful motivational tips and artist insight. I didn’t go to an art school for painting even though I am a painter full time, and honestly did not have that community sense to sorta run through the same obstacles all artist may encounter. Is nice to have someone that can verbally articulate your doubts and find answers as to how you may face your challenges whether they are mental or technical, this podcast will definitely help you propel forward in the right direction. Thank you Antrese.

    Educational and Interesting
I love listening to this podcast because I get to hear the stories of other artists. I’m painter (watercolors, from my local pigments) who lives in a very rural area of northwest Arkansas, and so apart from listening to podcasts, I don’t get to interact much with other artists. It inspires me to hear how others have developed their art careers and lives. ~ Madison Woods

A great resource for ANY artist
I found this podcast back in March of 2020 when I searched for podcast episodes on Graffiti and discovered the Greg Simkins episode. Since then, I’ve been working my way through the catalog of episodes. Although painting hasn’t been my primary practice - I’m working on a BFA in printmaking - but it’s been nice listening to a podcast that allows me to keep on learning about painting. Especially since I’m now incorporating watercolor into my practices.

    My favorite podcast!
Amazing podcast! It’s is very interesting, educational, informative, inspirational, I love it. Antrese is great interviewer, thank so much.
  • Needs another update!
Reminding artists it’s okay when you’re not okay.
When I am in a funk creatively, negative thoughts filling my head, I come to this podcast and I can listen to what goes through the minds of other artists of all ages and backgrounds. It’s like a light switch goes off and I am reminded of what connects us all, our strengths, weaknesses, challenges. I realize I’m not crazy after all or maybe we all are, but nonetheless I’m moving in the right direction by simply creating. I can’t recommend this podcast more! It is my go to in the studio and always delivers!

    Good for the Soul
I'm working on a 10 painting commission, (that I'm doing for free, so don't get too jeoulous!), and I normally listen to music while I paint. One day I thought I'd like to find something different to listen to. I've never listened to podcasts. I decided to give yours a try! Oh my gosh, I found myself binge listening the first day! I listened to 3 episodes. Same thing the next day, and the next! I can't tell you how much these podcasts are enjoyed and appreciated! They are feeding my soul. I am learning, growing as an artist, I'm feeling connected during this pandemic, and I can't wait to get into my studio and listen as I paint! I also graduated from The Art Center College of Design! I graduated as an advertising design major in 1975. This is before the campus moved to Pasadena. It's so enjoyable to hear different artists and their journeys! My painting journey began many years after retiring from commercial art. Thank you again for these great podcasts. Not only are you an amazingly talented artist yourself, but you have a gift when it comes to interviews, and advice. Thank so much!!!
