Seven Deadly Sinners

1,108
True Crime #242

Sinners are often people who believe they deserve every little thing they desire, and hurting others along the way…well that’s just road kill.  On a small scale it’s scary, but on the scale these people have done it it’s down right evil.
Preachers, church, your faith are your most trusted source of comfort…but what happens when that world is shattered…
Season 1 of Seven Deadly Sinners took on the world of Televangelists and cultish child sexual predator, Warren Jeffs.
Seasons 2 and 3 of Seven Deadly Sinners, we’re traveling to the depths of hell, expanding our realm and covering Preachers, Cult Leaders and Religious Organizations linked to horrific crimes...and some of these cases involve leaders who kidnap, rape and murder the ones who trust them the most.
What if, after leading you in prayer, he lures to the bedroom.
What it the same preacher who captures your heart, kidnaps your child.
What if, the priest serving you communion used those same hands to dispose of a corpse.
These Preachers committed heinous crimes - right under …your…. nose.. - with a bible next to their bed - and a cross around their neck.
Rachael O’Brien is the host of Seven Deadly Sinners, and she guides you on this hellish journey of deception all under the guise of Faith. Subscribe and listen on @applepodcasts  Now Let’s close our eyes, bow our heads and buckle up.

    Eghh
For the most part I like it or the idea anyway. I just think that if you have a script that you should stick to it. Her going off on a tangent and ranting makes it a bit difficult to stay interested. I just feel like you’re complaining. Also, she’s a tiny bit too emotional for me. We’re not here cause they’re “good people”. It’s called Seven Deadly Sinners for a reason.

    One of the Best
I discovered this podcast because I follow Nick Bryant, the amazing and fearless investigative journalist, and saw that he appeared in one of her episodes. The quality of that episode and his high regard for her work led me to subscribe and check out other episodes, and I’m very impressed. Way too many true-crime podcasts fail to contemplate the very real possibility of high-level law-enforcement corruption, sometimes even including complicity in some crimes. Unfortunately those problems are so ubiquitous that refraining from covering them compromises the quality of many otherwise-excellent investigative podcasts. This podcast does not suffer from that limitation. She follows the facts fearlessly and does excellent work. I look forward to every episode.

    Interview skills need improvement
This podcast has so much potential as far as topic matter but the podcaster is making it so hard to listen to. I love her values but please just learn more solid interview skills, stop fan girl-ing, and get the conversations more focused. Nobody cares about how people poop in prison…

    This host is so annoying
Rachel, do everyone a favor and stop interrupting Greg. This isn’t the time to show off your comedic skills (which are non-existent). Let the subject tell the story. Your constant interruptions destroy what would otherwise be a good series. Couldn’t make it through a single episode.

    Omaha, Nebraska
I’m really loving your show…I have learned stuff about Nebraska that I never knew existed when I was growing up in western Nebraska (Scottsbluff)…and when I had to move to the big, bad, scary center of all things bad that happened in Nebraska (Omaha) for medical school in 1979-1983…I guess that my mother was right when she said that everything bad that happened in Nebraska happened in Omaha! I must say, though, that I don’t understand why anyone who has ever been sexually abused or spiritually abused would want to listen to this particular podcast, making it necessary for you to give trigger warnings as frequently as you feel are necessary…Anything, keep up the good work! I love this series!

    Emotional much
I’ve tried getting into this podcast twice now and it drives me crazy how the host cries at everything. The subject stubbed a toe?? Crying….. I’m done

    Ugh. Greg is awful
Greg, stop interrupting the flow with inane commentary. It’s like you’re talking just to be part of the show but you contribute nothing. The stories are interesting but need to be better scripted. Rachael goes off the rails and then has trouble getting back.

    I’ve really tried
I have attempted numerous times to listen to this podcast. I haven’t made it through a single episode without having to turn it off from annoyance. The host LOVES to talk about herself, doesn’t seem to have any sort of script or guideline to follow, and the random pauses!! I kept thinking my phone had messed up, but nope! It was just the host’s brain buffering. Seems like a college age girl who forgot she had a presentation due, so she scrambles to cram all the information in that she can before she has to do her presentation. Amateurs at best.
  • Phookahorse
    Amateurish
This has good info, but she really needs someone to help her with the script. She randomly pauses in the middle of sentences, which is annoying. Had to stop halfway through the episode even though it was interesting just because I couldn’t handle listening anymore.

    Abuse
Listen to the episode put out during Xmas 2023 about Santa Claus/Saint Nick. Rachel is so rude to her husband, in my opinion degrading him by cutting him off and not letting him speak. Same with the Chowchilla Bus case. Greg, you are being put down and abused. Good luck.

Worst crime podcast ive ever heard
All the host does is talk about herself which we clearly don’t care about. The dramatic long pauses are uncalled for. She is a horrible story teller and keeps bringing up other crime stories that we also dont care about. I dont like this podcast i give it -1000 stars. Shes a narcissist with a microphone.

Greg sounds like a quick add in to ride coattails
Better show without his awkward commentary. Seems like he’s squeezing in to get some notoriety.
  • CheeseAndTrueCrime
    Stop. Reading. With. Pauses.
I like the content but the reading is terrible. Why are there so many random pauses in the sentence? Just talk.
  • Not Tom Selleck
    Hmm
Quality content but sometimes feels like it’s edited with a chainsaw. And those dramatic pauses for no reason…you can keep that trash
  • MichelleRN
    Where’s the story??
Listened for your take on Leslie Van Houten and it was an hour of chatter and no report or story! Didn’t even stay on track! Would give you 1 star for this but you have been a good host/reporter .

Needs a new host and new writers.
I am sorry but these episodes cover DREADFUL subject matter but it is made even more dreadful by the host’s monotone delivery. There is no passion, no inflection, nothing! She sounds like a 9th grader fumbling through a speech with long pauses and weird pauses at awkward moments where there would be no punctuation or need to pause for “dramatic effect.” I really just thought it was because she is reading a script but, by god, she talks the same way in multiple recorded conversations with lawyers and such. It is an INCREDIBLY hard listen. I also say that we need new writers or maybe editors because it is really irritating that the host says ok here’s this clip…but before we play the clip here’s the timeline. Now here comes rambling about a timeline for 10 minutes then cut to commercial then back to the show where we continue to ramble but there oh, yes, the clip… here’s that clip that I just “introduced” for 20+ minutes and now I’m gonna introduce it for another 5 minutes then FINALLY I will play the clip uninterrupted and unedited for 20 minutes but somehow this choppy, sloppy and all around boring delivery around this subject matter is supposed to pique my interest or keep me engaged?! Nah. 4 episodes in and I either lose interest, lose my patience or lose the plot and storyline. Shame shame.

    Really enjoy this podcast!
I found this podcast after listening to Deadly Diocese, which I highly recommend as well! Rachael does a great job and is able to lighten the mood with her great sense of humor without making light of the situation she is discussing. Give this podcast a listen I don’t think you will be disappointed!

    Great story
I have never heard this story but reminds me in some way of the Netflix show “The Keepers.” Did not rate as 5 stars as the sound seems garbled at times — especially when interviewing people. Did not like the autopsy jokes from the autopsy techs. I am sure it is funny to them but I lost my Mom to colon cancer AND we are talking about the tragic death of a man. Have some respect.

    Love it!!
Amazing podcast! Makes me glad I left the church years ago! Well researched and very well told!

    Updated review.
Lots of cases I’ve never heard about before.. They’re Very interesting! Originally I gave it 2 stars but after listening for a while the cases she covers are just so great I can’t stop listening.

Such an intriguing podcast. One of the only solo podcasts that I love because it’s so well researched and well told. New forever fan!

First time listening- pretty well done. Learned some new info regarding the LISK case- which is very complex for anyone interested. Will be checking out more cases!

    I tried….
I keep trying to listen to this podcast because it seems like it would be interesting. However, the rambling extremely annoying. The random pauses are pretty annoying as well. GET TO THE POINT.

    7 Deadly Sinners
Love the podcast and your expertise in exposing the shysters for what they are. Been binging full seasons since discovering you. Am hoping you do an episode on Mike Murdock, whom I ran across late one night while flipping channels - prosperity charlatan who’s creepier than Copeland, if that’s possible. If Satan crawled into a body, bet he’d look like Mike.

I am Really enjoying the work put into this fantastic project!! You have a beautiful voice & bring a bit of lightness to some hard core/serious subjects. I also Really like how a lot of the episodes have a first person interview on the matter. You most definitely come across as someone who put people at ease and they open up. Keep on Keeping on! I’ll recommend this podcast to anyone as well as listen to new content each week! -Heidi, N. Alabama

    Worst interviewer ever
I have tried and tried and tried many episodes, thinking the topic sounded interesting, but so many interviews take FOREVER to get to any point, and by then I couldn’t keep listening. She uses the word “like” every 5 words…. Sorry, but I’m officially over it
  • boobird15
    Would be much better if…
The content is interesting. But I can’t stand the dramatic pauses. Just speak normally. I can guarantee you don’t talk like that in real life.
  • Annuh025
I love this show!! I loved the 1 hour episodes
I love the show and wonder what happened to the 1 hour long episodes…. They were great why did they stop? 🥲
  • Goldylox~
    Just listen, you’ll love it!
The show is amazing, Rachael is probably my favorite podcast host. She is funny, smart, and empathetic (when she says something made her cry or is about to make her cry, she is so genuine that you feel it along with her so don’t be surprised if you cry too!) Her research is thorough and presented in a digestible manner. Even subjects covered by other podcasts, news programs, documentaries etc. feel different and refreshed due to Rachael’s methodical and diligent research along with her unique delivery. As a solo (mostly) podcaster, she succeeds and does not need to rely on the banter to which we have become accustomed in other shows. I can (and do sometimes) listen to her voice all day. I cannot recommend this show enough, it’s great, she’s great, just listen, you’ll see.

    Love this podcast!
Rachel, you are incredible! I absolutely adore your podcast and cannot wait for the next one to come out. I just finished the one about the feral people and you asked if we want more. YES!!!! Listening to the sounds of the feral people was incredible. Please do more.
  • Cege
    problematic tropes, too pro-police
the analysis the host provides is often problematic-it supports racist, inaccurate tropes about crime and valorizes law enforcement, who have been proven repeatedly to lie. Meh.
  • Kewaunee Gal
    Can’t get beyond the voice
The content may be good but the host’s voice is sing-songy, with strange affectations, like staccato punctuation and odd pauses. The tone is as if she were reading a book to children. I couldn’t make it through a full episode so, again, the content may be good.
  • samchillin
    Great show
Really like your style of reporting, bringing real life experience added with excellent research to paint a clear picture of each topic!! Thank you
  • thatoneplace
    Needs less opinion
Less opinion and more objective reporting. The topics could be interesting but the poor reporting ruins it.
  • Skypie05
    Great podcast!
This podcast does a great job of shining a light on the darkness that’s, more often than not, found hidden within religious groups. 10/10 recommend this podcast!
  • omg y r all nicknames taken?!
This podcast is going down hill.
This podcast just keeps getting worse. It was decent at some point. It was mostly hit or miss but after this Santa Muerte episode with their friend, it just hit rock bottom. First of all their friend that they interviewed, sounds like he is on one. The story he says happened aren’t really believable. And at some point he said not all cartel is bad. There is no justification on fact that cartels TRAFFIC DRUGS. He sounds like he’s on some kind of substance-abuse.

    Love this podcast.
Very interesting podcast and I think Rachel is amazing! She does a great job at telling the story and making us feel like we are right there with her.

    Pathetic
Failed woke female comedian wannabe actress makes a podcast.
  • Nancy78456
    TOO MUCH
The podcaster tries to insert too much of her opinion into her story telling that it becomes redundant and boring - she tries to hard to be funny that it becomes immature - just tell the story, be objective, we know there’s crazy religious folk out there - you don’t have to make fun of them, not good journalistic podcast, sort of biased and tries to formulate your opinion for you, it’s a pass from me- too bad because the topics seemed very interesting.
