This show is a great mix of gardening, football and life in general. Hosted by UNC Legend Michael Felder and Audio/Musical Wizard Michael Surber and assisted by their underling Little Stephen Hartzell. All jokes aside all 3 provide different perspectives on life and football. They stretch from Martha Stewart (Martha’s Boys), to bricks to the head, to the college football playoff. One of the highlights of my week.

despite 2/3 of this podcast having a fundamental misunderstanding of the greatness of legos, i still love this podcast and look forward to it every week. it helps keep me from losing my mind during accounting busy seasons. let’s grow

Hand in the Dirt is one of my favorite podcasts. The hosts Michael Felder and Michael Surber are hilarious and well informed on college football and gardening while also breaking out into song. They both bring on great guests like Holly Anderson, Ryan Nanni and Roddy White. If you are looking for a good podcast look no further than Hand in the Dirt and this dynamic duo!

It’s the conversations you & your buddies have over 8-12 beers on a college football satuday. Sure the game is on and we’ll talk about big moments but mostly it’s about life, making jokes, and who has the best yard.

You start out thinking it’s just amiable college football media dudes, talking about the minutiae of domestic life - gardening, Nikes, raising kids. Later, you’re laughing hysterically as the dudes argue about whether shoes are meant to be tied and somehow it’s the funniest thing you’ve heard in your life. Then, the dudes are talking about how their week is going and it hits an emotional chord in you, out of the blue. Nothing maudlin, just a passing moment when you feel some small understanding of the absurdity and richness of living a life on this earth. HITD is all of these things of course, but above all it is a damned enjoyable way to pass an hour or two every week. It’s a lifestyle podcast, really. Listen to it. Let’s Grow.

But, stay for the incredibly relatable lifestyle podcast of three elder millennial southerners, friends, and family men who argue and/or go on tangents about the same topics you may have just been contemplating in your own life but also topics that no one should ever need to consider in their every day life.

Love the show. They are perfect to listen to while I work on my lawn. Started listening early March and now have the best looking lawn in the neighborhood.

Love the banter, just started listening this year and have been working my way backwards. Feel like it’s made me a better chef and husband! Please do a re-eval of the Wemby takes dispensed in episode 146, a super cut with current reaction would be amazing. Also, still waiting on my sticker (not mad)

I hate Apple and remove all their apps as quickly as possible but redownloaded the Podcasts app solely to give this 5 star review. Somehow (probably helps that each episode is getting closer to the 5 hour barrier) there are interesting things the guys manage to discuss and I even find out about helpful products like Squirrel’s Nut Butter. Veers a little too heavily into football at times but the lifestyle and gardening are always great.

Found HiTD Pod via Shutdown Fullcast because I was looking for a podcast that wasn’t about college football* and is the one! Felder, Surber, and yes even Hartzell find interesting things to talk (at great length) about and in keeping with the potluck theme, there are some amazing treats hidden in what looks ordinary. These three have an encyclopedic knowledge of football, yards, outdoor lifestyle tips, gardening, swim clubs, and even coozies. Amazing. Get a big scoop of that casserole and enjoy. As a person that listens to an unhealthy amount of podcasts, I can confidently say this is one of the best ones out there. It’s a gardening podcast about football, but also a lifestyle podcast. Two to three hours every week of just guys being dudes, in the best way possible. If you had to form a parasocial relationship with some people on the internet, choosing these guys would almost not be toxic (but some of yall need to chill because you don’t know them like that). 100% of the time I’ve listened to hitdpod during breaks taking a bar exam, I’ve passed every time. Let’s grow!

I’m almost old enough to be your parents but love the show. Great stuff every week and follow all y’all on Twitter, etc. I’ve found myself talking out loud when listening agreeing/or not on topics ranging from lawn care to food.

I am proud to call myself a dirtbag. Every episode feels like a hang with your buds. This is perfect listening for when you have a day of house projects. I’m not much of a review writer but as a new listener I’ve got to express my gratitude. Its entertaining, at times informative but most importantly, it gets my mind on my garden. (The shoe talk made me download stock x again. I’m sure my wife will love that, but by the time she finds out it will be too late). Let’s grow!

I knew I was missing something from my other favorite podcast, Shutdown Fullcast, and it turns out that I was missing Surber screaming at the top of his lungs every five minutes about sneaker choices, and I’m thrilled to say that void has been filled. Love the recommendations from Felder and Hartzel, and the banter is next level. KRAV MAGA! LET’S GROW!

I’ve seen other reviews describe it hanging with you buddies and I agree. And just like hanging with your buddies be prepared for half the facts and statements to be pulled straight out of their a*#…but that’s part of the charm.

This show is great. I'm glad my family and I super imposed the Hartzell's friendship. My biggest beef is Hartzell's claim to have the nicest grass on the street. Sounds like we need to pony up with pictures and take it to a Twitter vote. I'm currently on episode 114 and catching up. I tune in daily to listen to Surber dole out L's left and right to Hartzell. In his defense, he takes them with grace. I too, would like to throw a G on the Cape Hatteras wager (team Felder). It's very interesting living beside a city boy turned rural, but we couldn't ask for better neighbors. Y'all have an awesome chemistry and I love tuning in. I look forward to the upcoming grow season with y'all. If we can ever get HITd in the 336 area code at the same time we throwin some pizzas in the pizza oven fa sho... #letsgrow

Hand in the Dirt is a fantastic podcast about gardening and football, really a lifestyle podcast. The extended universe of frequent guests are also fantastic. As a parent of a 2 year old born at the start of the pandemic, I have really enjoyed the discussions about parenting. It is a very enjoyable 2-3 hour listen every week, don’t let Felder saying they’re about to get out of there trick you into stopping the podcast early. Let’s grow!

The world ended in March of 2020 and new life began. This podcast has made me a better dad, a better husband and a better homeowner. This show is really some of the best hours of my week.

Excellent road trip podcast. Pretty great grass cutting podcast, too, but the length and range of wandering conversation makes for a fantastic partner on long drives.
