I came across Timbo and the podcast about a year ago when I began my podcast journey. Yes, I’m old and late to the podcast party. 😁 I’m a small business owner and lifelong learner and I began to binge the giant library of material in this archive. I don’t bother to even look at the title of each episode (like I do with other podcasts) because I know that I ALWAYS gather some gold nuggets that drip from Tim’s interviews. Tim is a master interviewer and pulls not only the guests’ stories, but the actionable details of how they built the business they run. It’s not a wonder that SBBM has been around for 13+ years. It truly is a great resource for us small business owners. Love ya, Timbo!

Hi Timbo, (first of all, what a cool name.) I stumbled across your podcast in the fall of 2021. I thought your accent was pretty cool, so I kept listening. My husband and I had just had our first baby in October of the same year, and then we opened up our chiropractic office in February of ‘22. I had no business or marketing training whatsoever, (actually I have a bachelors degree in nursing) and your podcast planted the seed for the love of “marketing” which I've learned is so much more than Facebook ads. Instead- it’s really trying to get deep into understanding humans and what makes them tick. But in the early (earlier) days of small-business owning… honestly my hubs and I had some dark days. There are so many unknowns, and often-times, ideas fail. Your podcast gave me hope and excitement and courage to keep going and most importantly, to take action. This is what I wrote to Tim: Tim, First, I'd like to thank you for helping us take our marketing to new heights. I'd say "the next level", but that would be an understatement. We're several steps up the ladder from where we began, almost entirely thanks to your podcast. Secondly, I want to share a thought with you about what has worked from the show, and something I've realized that I don't believe has been said. (And you can opt me out of the monster prize draw because I'm in the US and couldn't take advantage anyway.) We've made ten calls for ten straight days. We've made sure to add useful content to our webpage and Facebook and focused on helping and educating as opposed to simply selling. We've made sure our emails are entertaining and informative. We ask for the action. We've delegated things like video editing for the posh spots, and we've done more candid live videos to increase our audience. We even take a minute to focus on just our breathing when things get stressful. We've used more tips than we can list. All of the things we've done from your show have led me to realize something based on a comment you made in an early episode. You said you have to have a passion for your business and marketing it. That said, it occurred to me that all of your guests, and you, share one thing in common: persistently and passionately following a marketing program. I think all of your guests have a marketing plan and they pursue it fervently and are committed to it. Doing a little of this and a little of that occasionally is probably a waste of time. Being committed to marketing means constantly focusing on it, whatever you're doing. For us that starts with your show. I listen every single week, whether I think the topic will help me or not, because it's part of my program. I've committed to marketing our business passionately and persistently and I have a plan and a program that I follow, the foundation of which is Small Business, Big Marketing. It's really the core of our efforts. We half-assed trying this and that before your show. Without it the rest would never have happened, and we'd have nothing from which to build our marketing. This podcast is changing the way Australia does business. I still remember the day a friend mentioned Mr Reid and his podcast. I didn't follow my friend's advice for a long time. I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't even know how to listen to a podcast until somebody downloaded the app for me. After the first episode I didn't stop until I had listened to every single episode on iTunes. It changed everything for us.

I don't know how he does it, but somehow Tim makes sure each episode has an interesting guest and a fresh, valuable message. For a show with 200+ consistently produced hour-long episodes, that's very impressive. Love it!!

Love your show but as a designer I hate how you promote 99designs as a solution for marketers. As a business owner I doubt you would appreciate a website popping up for cheap marketing solutions. Thanks for the show, just keep it light on promoting a business that can hurt a clients reputation with a bad logo design.
