Star_DemHonest and realI always look forward to a good dose of just shoot me podcast. I feel heard and understood as a filmmaker. I love how real and honest Matt and Oren are about the ups and downs, in and outs, and lefts and rights of being filmmaker in Los Angeles. I learn a lot, I laugh a bit and I always come for more !

zmuddiman2From a different type of directorAmazing show that I have recommended to several of my students who want to go into filmmaking. I am not in the filmmaking community, but I am a band director and stills photographer who very much enjoys the industry. These guys are entertaining, dynamic, and enthusiastic about sharing their directing experiences with this community. They choose relevant guests and include just the right amount of sarcasm (wooo). I also thoroughly enjoy unpaid endorsements! Thank you guys for all you do.

Prof. WilliamsA Filmmaker’s Journey Worth FollowingI started listening to these guys back in 2016. It was their 50th episode entitled “A Tale of Two Orens.” Six years later, they’re well over 300 episodes and I’m still listening. It’s a podcast for erstwhile filmmakers hungry to “make it.” The ironic beauty of this successful podcast is that Matt

Me3567;Constantly ValuableI think I’ve listened to at least 50 episodes and I find value in everyone. There are so many tips and pieces of inside knowledge that you probably can’t get anywhere else when it comes to commercial directing. On a programming note I love the flow that comes with each episode. A lot of film podcasts have a way getting way off topic and it eats away at the run time. This duo are like ying and yang they balance each other out so well and usually spotlight both sides of the coin with each topic. thank you Oren and Matt for this show.

ZoomrixAuthentic Informative EntertainingTHIS is what filmmakers need these days. Matt and Oren are honest and transparent with their show. It makes my day every week, I wish it was a daily podcast. If you’re a filmmaker worth their salt—you’ll listen to Just Shoot It Pod!

NewYorkOrNowhere_Best Filmmaking Podcast Out ThereThe rigorous attention to the daily mechanics of directing, writing, producing coupled with the sincerity and passion from Matt and Oren are unparalleled. Listen to them, listen to their guests, and you will be able to not only make a film, but have a strong sense on how to navigate the (wild) entertainment industry. I began bingeing this podcast during the pandemic, and it armed me with everything I needed to know to shoot my first short film, including the encouragement to "just shoot it". Most importantly: write to your resources. My first film ended up winning awards in a few film festivals, and I have since directed two more shorts, one of which premiered at a BAFTA-qualifying film festival (my dream festival!), and I was recently named to a 2021 Director to Watch list from an industry publication, and have several commissioned projects in que for 2022. Seriously, I feel like I owe everything to this podcast (will be donating to their patreon shortly!). Favorite part of the podcast: when Oren or Matt stops their guest and says, "wait, let's unpack that". It is always where I find myself wanting to know more granular details, and these two always prod for the juicy info that typically gets glossed over in other podcasts. Love this. Oren, thank you for addressing the nitty gritty of how parenthood affects the life of creatives (mom of two young ones here, married to a composer). The naivete can be staggering, but it’s so important to discuss.

Cal Barnes 1Great Show About that Covers the Process of FilmmakingThis is a solid show in the filmmaking podcast network. I’ve been listening to Oren and Matt’s podcast along with a select handful of others as I’ve been directing my own first feature the last few years. Very informative. They cover a good array of topics and some great discoveries have been made. In these wild times we’re living in with an onslaught of over information, it’s great to have a few solid staples that deliver great content and episodes on a regular basis. Remember, when all else fails, Just Shoot It! It’s a great call to action.

GreCoBoExistential-... Triumph?Listening to over 200 episodes over the course of several months, I finally caught up to current events and WOW. Matt and Oren discussing their triumphs and misery so open and honestly, along with their incredibly insightful and sincere guests, makes for an entertaining and supremely educational show that I am so incredibly happy to have found. I’ve saved a handful of quotes to later be put on T-shirts, but I shall end this review with these 2: “If you stick it out, your odds are better than 1 in 50” (Oren) and “Steven Spielberg was never a shark.” (Matt)

Glen MontgomeryEvery episode has golden nuggetsAs an editor I first started with the editor interviews, but as I expanded to the other crafts being explored I discovered there are immensely insightful moments in every single episode. An invaluable tool to navigating this industry.

momirabalEasily the best Directing Podcast Out there!I started listening about a month ago and I havent been able to stop! Matt and Oren are the most incitful guys that talk shop in a way you dont hear other directors talk! I love them and I love this podcast!
-
kurtisloewPerhaps the most entertaining film production podcast. This podcast does an amazing job of being both informative and entertaining. The production is top notch, Matt
-
filmgirlnyc1234Fantastic PodcastMatt and Oren consistently deliver a high level look into the industry from a modest point of view....from the perspective of “I’d like to get there one day.” In that, it’s very relatable while also being informative and inspiring. I appreciate that Matt and Oren have different opinions, and how unapologetically Oren asks guests the questions we all want to ask but probably wouldn’t. I also appreciate how many of their shows feature female creators (at least since I’ve started listening). Slowly I’ve stopped listening to other filmmaking podcasts because I get so much out of this one. Two thumbs up.

dakotasmithdDefinition of what a podcast isJust Shoot It is the reason why I continue to listen to podcasts. Not only is the show creative but it is presented by two individuals who truly have a passion for leadership, creativity, and assisting others in their journey. Their selfless dedication to those trying to learn what it takes to be a part of film is truly admiring. I recommend that everyone experience this podcast with open arms. One thing that I’ve learned while listening to the past few podcasts is that there is a very restricted side of film wherein it takes months to years to complete a project though the actual film is complete. This is due to management and quality control or broadcasting. If you want to learn about the above as well as go through an in-depth review on these facets of filmmaking, I implore you to take a listen. RECAPPING FROM 286: If you are asking for a manager or agent, you should probably just shoot it first! Dakota

StefanieDavisA well rounded wealth of knowledge for filmmakersMatt and Oren do a great job of finding topics that work well for a various array of filmmakers. Even if you’re not a commercial director, some of the topics they cover for that specific director works for an indie filmmaker. It’s a great listen with genuine conversation to keep you grounded as an artist.
-
Joe the VisualistGood times. Good guys.JSI podcast is a favorite without question. I’m a commercial director and I’ve gleaned endless amounts of knowledge. The guys make every aspect as relatable as possible. Their guests and stories are relevant and fun. Get ready to take some notes and be inspired. Jordan Brady tried to pay me NOT to write this. (Not really though)

AntJFallonProfessional, working directors on directingHands down, this is the best podcast out there for anyone who directs or thinks they may want to direct in the future. What is unique, is that both Matt, Oren and their guests are all legitimate working professionals and they are open about the realities of the biz, while being entertaining and honest. In short, there is a wealth of knowledge on every episode. My advice? Just listen to it.
-
dhessellCompletely engaging & consistently relevantMy gratitude to "Just Shoot It" cannot be understated. This podcast is engaging from start to finish, very well produced, and keeps the perfect balance between film & commercial production. The guests on each episode are very relevant not only to the subject of discussion, but also to the filmmaking community. Matt & Oren have found the recipe for an outstanding podcast, and listeners are benefiting from it! #grateful

DavepacinoThanks alot, guys...This podcast is really making my life difficult. After years of being a perennially successful actor and filmmaker, I'm trying to move on with my life. You know - go back to school for something sensible, get a steady job at a desk, and just have a regular schedule with a regular paycheck. Well, this podcast just keeps interfering with my plans. Everytime I listen, I learn something new about filmmaking. Whether it's a fresh approach to storyelling, or valuable insight on the inner workings of an advertising agency, or an out of the box tactic for getting a film funded, every episode of "Just Shoot it" delivers knew knowledge that just begs to be put into practical application. It not only educates, but more importantly inspires. One of the best things about this podcast is that I've never felt like an outsider when listening to it, even though I don't have anywhere near the technical knowledge or experience of Matt and Oren and diverse stable of guests. Everytime I listen, I learn somthing new. But it never feels like a classroom. Rather than feeling like I am learning FROM them, it always feels like I am learning WITH them. It's that feeling of when you and your friends get a new video game, take it home and take turns playing and learning together. At the end of the day, this podcast reignites my LOVE and PASSION for filmaking everytime I listen to it. It's a problem, but a quality one. So, Yeah. Thanks alot, guys.

Matt. RoweHey, MattI’m sorry I’m a little late, but I wanted to possibly be the kicker to push you guys over the edge. Did we do it? But no I should have it sooner, I’m sorry boys. Obviously you guys have a really informative and inspiring podcast and I’m happy my buddy told me about it. Definitely something that is shaping my journey. I’m thinking of moving to LA at the end of next summer. Oren, what do you think I should do?
-
juju_sanBest podcast about Directing!I’ve been listening to this podcast for years, and it is still the best podcast focused on film directing that I have seen! A lot of filmmaking podcast are really about screenwriting, so it’s nice to have a podcast that’s for people who just want to direct (or be writer-directors). Also Matt and Oren are the nicest guys, and every episode is like listening to your friends! If you want to know how to actually make a living as a director (without striking gold on one film by a fluke of nature), these are the guys to listen to!
-
Josh BaeslerThe Best Filmmaking Podcast!!!Matt and Oren have created a fantastic show! Week in and week out they, along with their excellent array of guests, deliver invaluable insights from the "working filmmaker" front line. I listen to many directing related podcasts and as insightful as they can be, they are often interviews with people we've all heard of like the Spielbergs or Scorseses of the world, which can be great, but those diretors are currently working in such a rafified stratosphere it can be tough for filmmakers who are just starting out to relate. Just Shoot It however, focuses on the nuts and bolts of what it takes to make a living being a director for hire, from writing, to pitching, to commercials, to gear, etc... they cover the gammut every week. If you're looking for inspiration or advice on how to get out there and "Just Shoot" your very first or next film project, look no further!!!
-
JeffofthePNWThis is the one!Just Shoot It is my favorite podcast to listen to because Oren and Matt come across as kind and thoughtful people with lots of information to share from their myriad of experience. They are always open and honest and provide intimate details about the commercial directing business in LA. It’s great to feel like you have the inside scoop listening to this cast. Thanks a lot guys!
-
BillmannrepLove the showLong time listener. Love the show. Great interviews but my favorite part is when you catch up and discuss what you’ve been up to. Always great insight. And Oren you don’t dominate the discussion. 😂
-
Curt WiserFor the win.....Filmmakers and creatives alike should listen to this podcast. It is a great resource and is sure to inspire. If there was a contest for most reviews in the moth of May, they deserve the win.

hiyadbYayMatt and Oren are a fantastic podcasting team. Just Shoot It has been so great and informative. It gives a real take on tv and filmmaking without sounding pompous or “Hollywood”. I especially loved the development podcast eps as I just directed my first pilot/live action short film last summer and getting an inside take from industry was super cool. tsketchTerrific Interview Show About The Reality of FilmmakingOren & Matt are working directors who interview independent filmmakers, television executives, and technicians. It's a fun and casual atmosphere -- they have terrific guests, ask insightful questions, they have excellent insight into the world of filmmaking (both pro and indie) and leave the listener inspired to get their crew together and just shoot it!
