    Excellent host and podcast.
A great listen, helpful in filling in a major gap in my 20th century and war knowledge.

Great Way to Learn About WWI
I have been bingeing this podcast for the last few months and have really come to appreciate the depth of Livesay’s research, and his straightforward presentation. He provides a lot of detail without being overwhelming, and I have a much better understanding of this pivotal period of history than I did beforehand (and I am a history buff and thought I knew a lot). Highly recommended!!

Informative and fun to listen to
I love this podcast and listen to it on my bus back from school and in class when I can. I’m a huge ww1 nerd and greatly enjoyed this podcast keep the good work up

    Helps my survive the bus.
There are some very annoying people on my bus and it is really helpful for ignoring them. Thank you!

    Great podcast
I love listening to this podcast while at work. Wish I would hear about tanks, but I’m in the early episodes so I’m sure they’ll come up.

    History of the Great War
Thanks for making this podcast. Well researched and delivered.

    Highly Recommended
The quantity and depth of the episodes is very impressive, especialy for a one-man passion project. The production quality isn’t the highest, but that really doesn’t matter if you’re here for the history. If you’re interested in World War I, even if you have some basic background knowledge, you should listen to this podcast.

    BEST POD
Of all the podcasts I’ve listened to about war and history this is tippy”rary” top on my list!!!! In depth serious without being overly upsetting. It’s recorded well and thought through and ordered brilliantly!!! 10/10 recommend to anyone who digs history with a military bent!!!
  • JMW-WW1

It has improved over the years. Incredible detail and breadth, and very easy to listen to.

    A great find!
I’ve loved listening to this podcast, principally because you get to see the podcast grow over time. His abilities are honed over time and you can see the quality of the podcast as a whole increase. Good voice, great research, and good clear writing make this the best WW1 podcast in my opinion.
  • Greg from New Jersey
    Yup this podcast rox!
Great voice, calm demeanor, attention to details. I’m a history buff and this show is as sincere and comprehensive as it gets. Really enjoy Livesey’s work.

    Top Tier History podcast
    Highly reccomended

Almost as good as my favorite teacher. Seriously.
This was a delightful podcast find, and I’m looking forward to catching up on the most current active program! This podcast would be great for anyone interested in learning about history, but I can confidently say the content aligns with my AP history notes from high school (because I’m 34 and still have them?) and it probably would’ve been really helpful as a study review tool for the AP history exam? If you live somewhere AP courses aren’t available or you have/had a really bad history teacher, this podcast is really all you need.

    Excellent with some caveats
Excellent telling of the history though there is some slight bias towards a pro isolationist view in regards to the US in the war.

    Well Made and Researched
A very well made and researched account of the Great War and its offshoots, very much worth the time to listen.

    Great podcast
I can’t tell you how awesome Wesley is at telling these stories, I used to drive a FedEx truck and started listening while delivering, now I drive a ups truck and still listen while delivering. I think I’ve probably listened to the whole war 2-3 times over. He’s great at telling a story and going into detail while not getting too bogged down in the details. Cant wait till ww2 really gets going, everyone go check out his ww2 podcast

    Good stuff
Loving the story telling so far, i thought i might get burned out with so many episodes but not so! Looking foreword to listening to every one. I giggled a bit at a few pronunciations early on but things have improved a lot and i can tell how much effort goes into each episode. Earned all 5 stars.

    Biased historian
When a historian openly flaunts their political views it makes it difficult to trust their take on history as being accurate. There are better ww1 podcasts from objective historians.
  • isledawg
Very enjoyable and superbly well done!
I have had hours of enjoyment listening to Wesley. The podcast is thoroughly well researched and presented with a freshness that’s very welcoming. I highly recommend listening and subscribing. 5 stars!

A must listen to history podcast!
I cannot stress enough how amazing this podcast is. It has given me so much content to listen to and the amount of detail is amazing. Fantastic story teller and does a fantastic job every episode.

    great content / low audio
A+ host, format, level of detail. B- quality audio. Must have had gain set too low - this is the only podcast I subscribe to I need to set my audio above 60% for.

    Amazing podcast!
By listening to this podcast I learned how little I knew about WWI.
  • raulrey0
    I struggle with war stories
As a historian I swim in the almost endless and evergreen study of men’s effort to kill, wound, and destroy other men. Stories of war require a deft touch to not become simple voyeurism. The narrator of this podcast does an extraordinary service in his preparation & presentation. He keeps it real enough that we don’t forget the waste and stupidity of war without collapsing into bathos. Detailed but not oppressively so. Hopeful but grounded. I recommend without reservations.

    2nd Battle of Passchendaele - Oct 30, 1917
Via my recent genealogy research, I discovered that my great-uncle Leo Victor Curley (1897-1917), a member of The Canadian Army, was killed on Oct. 30, 2017 during the 3rd Battle of Ypres (2nd Battle for Passchendaele), in Belgium, and he is buried at the nearby Tyne Cot Cemetery. Thank you for enlightening me about the history of this battle and helping me better understand his sacrifice, the difficulty his Divison faced, and the terrible loss of so many lives for the cost of freedom.

    Fantastic, Thorough, and Contextual
This one of the best history podcasts I have ever listened to and the host certainly does his research and is pleasant to listen to! This is my favorite podcast so far on WWI and it starts out giving context prior to the original traditionally accepted 1914 start and with the July Crisis and works its way to and beyond the year 1918. It also talks about some of the Civil Wars and residual effects of conclusion of Great war and Versailles Treaty as well! There are hundreds of episodes of fantastic content for you to listen to!

One of the best podcasts on iTunes n
One of the best podcasts by far, as informative and interesting as Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History.
  • GlennDP1980
One of the few truly great ones
There’s a short list of truly excellent podcasts that consistently deliver quality like this. Mike Duncan’s History of Rome comes to mind as one of the few others. This guy covers just about every single global facet of the war and keeps it interesting. His breadth of knowledge is staggering and his enthusiasm for sharing the story of the war comes through in every episode. I’m looking forward to the Second World War podcast he is preparing.
  • Eddie Brown Sr
    Excellent
Great podcast, well researched and to the point.

    Great Analysis
One of the best historical podcasts going. Thorough yet digestible examination of every aspect of WW1. Don’t miss it.

Wesley , how are you holding up?
First off, this ww1 podcast is my go to favorite on ww1 analytics and I’ll say it now who would have known how much content is in this podcast unless you hear every single episode. Wesley, you have a friend in me. If you read this please let us all know you are okay through these unsettling times. P.s your awesome episodes on 1918 influenza pandemic has eerily been on my mind through these times.

    Great Podcast
I came upon this podcast in late 2019 and wish I had started it earlier, but I have really enjoyed it. I would have given it five stars if not for the “best fiends “ app ad that is embedded halfway through some of the episodes. It makes me want to drive my car into the ditch
  • Hydrology
    Plays Backward
Good podcast, but the episodes play backwards, so they play from the newest to the oldest podcast. That is the opposite direction of the timeline. No other podcast that I have listened to does this. So to play them in chronological order, you need to manually go in and select the next episode to play each time, or it will automatically start playing the previous episode that you already listened to. That is very very very annoying.

    Awesome stuff
Just a first-rate show. Well-researched, well-told and flat entertaining. great job.

    Fantastic
It’s like Dan Carlin’s blueprint to Armageddon but 200 episodes it’s awesome
  • Zone Left
    Very accessible
Very accessible, entertaining series. I've burned through about half in just two months, despite not having all that much time. It's a great listen.

    Best War History Podcast
There’s no better podcast covering a war and everything going on around the theatre of war. Keep on!
  • Richard D Blankey
    Among the select few...
Wesley has created a go to podcast for me. Copious research combined with insightful analysis has produced a podcast that both informs and entertains. This is a foundational podcast, providing the military and political context for the economic and social disruption that WWI inflicts upon the early 20th century. Glad to hear that the saga will continue. Looking forward to following the threads that extends through the interwar years to WWII!!

    Incredible podcast
The detail of this podcast is incredible. I have walked large parts of the battlefields in France and visited dozens of cemetery and battle markers Jeff Lanum

    Excellent
When Battlefield 1 was released by EA, I developed a fascination with the Great War. I quickly found this podcast and began listening. I’m now 120 episodes in, and will likely continue on long drives and walks/runs. Great content.
