MDP3612Great PodcastAfter spending years researching the Revolutionary War and now switching to the Civil War, this podcast has given me a great timeline and lots of great info to dive into. Also lots of great book recommendations.

MyskeToo much banterI don’t care about the hosts. I don’t want to learn about the hosts. I want to learn about the civil war. Way too much time is spent on the hosts’ personalities and it distracts from the actual topic. Too bad, because an in depth civil war podcast would be great - just not this one.

bexn1Condescending RichWe love this podcast, nearly 300 episodes in, and it’s incomparable in the league of civil war podcasts. However, every time Tracy makes a statement, and Rich chimes in “exactly”, or “yep!” Or, “that’s right,” my skin crawls. This is extremely condescending and downright patronizing toward Tracy. We love your podcast, but do better, Rich!

prhangBest podcast on The Civil WarYou guys are the highlight of my cyber life. I got a shout out back in 2020 or 2021 and am a proud member of the Straw Foot Brigade. Your presentation is easy to listen to, highly researched, and always interesting. I cried when Rich read the letter from the soldier during the Gettysburg story arch. Had to hear it 3 times.Best podcast out there!

Raiderrich 103Love it!A very deep dive into Civil War history. But it’s not dry it’s not boring and the couple that does the story telling are just so sweet. You know they do it as a labor of love you can tell that through their storytelling.

KanjiKingCrazy Detailed Podcast!Absolutely a great podcast series made with so much care and balance.

Sudoku is my most used appGreat podcastSuch a detailed and fascinating podcast. As an American I’m shocked at how little of this was taught in school.
-
Sawyer1206FF to Episode 51 Before SubscribingI loved the history stories given by this Podcast until episode 51. Episode 51 is not history, it’s reverse racism. I respect other people’s opinion but keep your opinions to yourself when the title of your show is “Civil War HISTORY”.
-
VulkRiderGreatGreat. I should stop there because anything else I say will detract from that description. Ok, I can’t resist. It is much more in depth and it resonates with me more than Ken Burns’s epic film. I relisten to many episodes of this podcast but did not rewatch Burns film very much, if that says something to you.
-
Murphdad1975Great podcastI thought I knew a lot about this war but this podcast covers the history so completely that I learn lots more every listening. I’m only on episode 63 but have been listening to multiple episodes daily. I hope to catch up in a couple of months.

History podcast fanGreat PodcastThis is a fantastic podcast! I highly recommend it. Rich and Tracy are very knowledgeable and make it very entertaining. I have learned so much about the history of my nation. Keep it up guys, can’t wait for each new episode.

massamifntjHas kind of bogged downI used to really enjoy this podcast, but ever since the Gettysburg and Vicksburg episodes, the pace has slowed to a crawl. There are months at a time spent on campaigns that had very little Influence on the outcome of the war (e.g., the campaigns in Florida and along the Red River). I mostly skip these and eagerly await the return to events that are of more than local interest.

Brian S02563Love this Podcast. This a a great history lesson on the US and the civil war. I listen during my long commute and on business trips. Rich and Tracy are engaging and their preparation for each episode is outstanding I’ve listening to nearly 100 episodes. Give it. A try and you will be hooked too. All the best

ChicagoHayes8FantasticA great podcast, with wonderful people.

SgtesqCivil War buff loves this podcastI have a degree in History and Political Science. I have been fascinated by the Civil War since I was young. I recently discovered this podcast and absolutely love it. I practiced law for 43 years and recently retired. I have been listening to a couple of episodes most days now. They do an excellent job of telling the history of the civil war. Each episode is clearly based upon meticulous research. The book recommendations are excellent. I highly recommend it.
-
Joshua24fanGreat podcastThe greatest Civil war podcast. It took me a few episodes to get my footing with so much details but I can follow their battle summaries while looking at a map. It's great!!! A new understanding of what happened in the battles.

AZplebianThey damaged a very special podcastFor years this podcast was truly peerless. From the start up to end of 2023 the pace, script and research was top notch. In 2024 they signed up with airwave media to make more money—totally fine, they deserve to make a living. However, there must have been something with the contract they signed because they totally ditched the narrative of the civil war. Since the start of 2024 the show jumps around to random topics like the members episodes. I think it’s a ploy to ensure the podcast can stretch a minimum 10 more years. Whatever the reason, it doesn’t work anymore.
-
warrenrtwGreat paceThis moves at perhaps the perfect pace for a history podcast: the right amount of detail while keeping things moving. They focus on historical and political context, take their time on each battle, and summarize and provide reminders, all of which avoids losing me in the details as some other history podcasts can. Also I enjoy the hosts—Rich and Tracy are sweeties.

alkurdy88Good StuffStarted listening based on a Reddit recommendation. Great content and lots of information I missed or forgot from my HS US History class.

Katmai1111Excellent!If you want to know the who what & where of the civil war, this podcast is fantastic! If you’ve ever wondered how situations developed, who were the main characters, how they came to their decisions, and then executed plans, this is going to be a delightful journey for you!

KingAppdanVery Good But For . . .I just started listening to this podcast (32 episodes in), and it is very good but for the inane (and poorly performed) banter that the hosts insert annoyingly into each episode (e.g. “his dark little expansionist . . .” “Rich!” “Sorry.”). It’s annoying, unnecessary, and only detracts from the otherwise pleasant and calm presentation of the narrative. I sure hope it stops soon, because it’s becoming more and more of a turn-off.

GalacticGranthamMy Favorite PodcastI am a pretty big history guy, and the US Civil War is a particularly interesting topic to me. Unlike WW2 History or World History, this all took place in locations you can visit and see as an American without leaving your country. My first exposure was walking around Wilson’s Creek NBP with my Grandma, and it is still my favorite battlefield even after visiting some of the big ones (Manassas, Antietam, Gettysburg). That whole background is just to say that this podcast brings to life a subject that I love, and the hosts do it in an engaging and approachable manner. Whether you are learning it for the first time or have been interested for a long time, you can follow along easily. I love the depth they give the subjects, and it shows they really want to do the topic the justice it deserves. Thank you for bringing this show to all of us. I am a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and I think the idea that someone will appreciate and remember what you did matters, even if it is a small number of people who do so. By studying what they said and did, we say thank you and we remember you.

The Real Zen BoyAn earnest, accurate, and honorable portrayalThe hosts have really evolved since the first days. I am so glad Tracy has become a mainstay. The pair of them really make the podcast special. The one feature that has carried throughout is they are earnest in their endeavor. They deftly avoid ridiculous Lost Cause narratives and in fact debunk them. They thoroughly cover topics in depth. I especially like the first hand accounts of frontline soldiers from both sides. I frequently tear up due to their heartfelt reading of letters and journals, and the hosts aren’t afraid to show their emotion either. I am truly impressed when the host get choked up after reading a passage. They don’t edit it away. I hope this podcast continues well after the Civil War fighting ends. I would love to hear them cover Reconstruction.
-
ArndisneyKeep your two centsToo many personal politics that seep into the show. I’d much rather just listen to facts vs one male host’s personal opinions about modern day politics being applied to the past. It is really lame! How much personal politics feed this show! #fail
-
Solomon SeabornEducationalAs a recent fanatic of the civil war, this was a great aid to my reading. Also ample apologetics on the rain of war.

Bandits19Less reading, more natural dissuasion pleaseI wish it was more natural flowing and less reading from a sheet
-
nertlyuGreatI love this podcast and I’m not (or at least wasn’t) a civil war guy. Great research and content and they have dedicated at lot of their personal time and energy for this and it really shows! For a topic so gruesome and tragic somehow it’s kind of calming to listen too. For the people who don’t like the personal opinions (which are very very rare), this is a podcast! Skip the episode or fast forward! This isn’t the radio! He even announced it at the very beginning of the show and said to skip if you don’t want to hear his thoughts… Anyway, great work and I wish them all the success in the world!

BespinFatiguesAmazing!!I’ve recently discovered this podcast and it’s INCREDIBLE …can’t wait to catch up on the last decade of episodes Thank you for doing this -Adam

JCN0283New ListenerI’ve just started listening to podcasts and have a great respect for the history of the United States and im only 25 episodes in but I wanted to say I love how in-depth and thorough this podcast is.

cmaag1Long time listener.I have been following the podcast from the beginning. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to contribute anything other than my ears, although I have spread the word to all who I thought would be interested. Each episode is carefully researched and presented with care, especially when the subject matter may be controversial. Richard has a sense of humor that I appreciate. As a recently retired history teacher, I appreciate the time and effort they put into this project, and one day, hope to be able to swing the extra cash to join the Straw-foot brigade.

89 BroncoGreat showI am currently down for a while cause of surgery. I just want you to know your podcast is really helping me ease my mind and relax. Thanks

DModdsAmazing History PodcastI started listening about 18 months ago on a road trip though TN. I’m hooked. I am still working my way through every episode since the beginning, and it has gotten me interested again in the most important history event in our Nation. Thank you!

Cjfufmm I’m cjfAdvertisers have to goI have listened to over 400 episodes and have loved the podcast. Recently the podcast quality of the episodes has decreased there is barely 10 minutes of content in an episode anymore. Further they have taken on objectionable advertisers. These are baked into the episode so this is a choice they have made. I first noticed at the beginning of episode 415. I can not have my views and clicks support Planned Parenthood. Nor can I support a podcast that supports fake and disproven historical lies about the founding of the nation. Sadly I have come to the conclusion that I have to leave a podcast I love. I won’t let the door hit me on the way out.

Rollins JrCompletely absorbingI have recently started walking two hours daily. This podcast has me so absorbed that the miles speed by. Thank you for an excellent podcast.

kaseagulRich and Tracy, the GOATS of Civil War History PodcastingAll they do is win, win, win no matter what. Insightful, well researched, enthralling- on episode 50 and can’t get enough.
-
OC ChicagoAmazing ignorance of current eventsThis fool gives a diatribe on current events parroting leftists who are attacking historians by claiming they are “sugarcoating slavery”. As you say “I’m appalled”. Highlighting a few stories about people who overcame tremendous odds and were able to succeed despite being slaves & victims of racial discrimination does NOT mean they are advocating for or justifying slavery in any way. That’s like saying anyone who manages to navigate Byzantine government regulations & roadblocks & manages to succeed in business despite those obstacles is advocating & praising government regulations and roadblocks. If you get today’s events 180 degrees opposite of the truth, how can anyone trust you to get history right? You people are nothing but race baiting clowns.
-
Amc765In depth!I wanted to learn more about the U.S. Civil War after visiting the battlefields of Gettysburg. This podcast is detail-oriented, clear, well-researched, and I laugh EVERY time Rich talks about Polk’s dark little expansionist heart 🤭
-
BeyadBalancing out the alt-right snowflakesDon’t usually write podcast reviews but I feel I have to to balance out the people crying because Rich gave his feelings on current events in a non-episode. The show is well done, in depth, well researched, and very enjoyable to listen to. The hosts work well with each other (which is good since they’re married) and the occasional banter doesn’t take away from the show. Also, and most importantly, during the actual episodes of the podcast, they give an unbiased recounting of the history. Neither Rich or Tracy allow their personal feelings influence the narrative. On a few occasions they have made personal statements on current events, but they have been in separate 100% SKIPPABLE releases which start with a disclaimer. Therefore, if you’re interested in an excellent podcast that gives a thorough retelling of the American Civil War, look no further.

Paul ticCivil war podcastStarted this podcast last week at work 8/7/23 , I’m on episode 73 , and have been listening to it on Spotify , I’m from mass and 57 so I learned a lot about the civil war in school , when and if I finish the podcast I’ll be a historian, and probably have my own TV show on the history channel . Great podcast , 5 stars

Darby McWhite supremacists have found this great podKeep up the amazing work!! It seems that white supremacists have found this amazing, detailed, historical account of the civil war that speaks truth- including how it relates to current events. Of course they hate it- it’s true! Keep it up we love y’all!

contractor134562627273GreatFantastic podcast. Felt compelled to write a review after one clown decided to write 14 bad reviews about “Florida.” Hard to get into at first… I was very skeptical. But overall a fantastic and unbiased civil war podcast. Could do without so many “show notes” and find myself reaching for the fast forward button often but that’s a personal preference… exacerbated by binging and being many years behind. Great podcast, from the proud descendant of Virginia infantrymen!
-
DproseKeep Up The Great Work!Love the podcast and the amazing work that you put into every episode. I also love the fact that you are pissing off the white supremacists. When you are doing that, you know that you are on the right side of history. Keep up the great work!

Liberal Man!Best civil war podcast out thereThis is best civil war podcast. They do there research and know their facts. The bad reviews are from ignorant people who never read a history book. Maybe any book.
