    The Best of the Best
Don’t let the title throw you off. The Art of Manliness isn’t just for guys. It’s packed with wisdom that anyone can use. This podcast was actually my first intro to the world of podcasts, and honestly, it ruined me in the best way. It’s like eating the best omelet of your life and then spending years trying to find one that’s better. Nothing else quite compares. This is the gold standard of self-improvement podcasts. I’m always looking forward to the next episode because I know it’s going to be packed with stuff that sticks. It’s more than just interesting conversation. It’s practical, thought-provoking, and genuinely helpful. It’s not an exaggeration to say it helped me through some pretty intense times. During COVID, The Strenuous Life program was a lifesaver. It gave me a sense of challenge and purpose when everything else felt stuck. It kept me moving both physically and mentally. If you’re into podcasts that push you to grow, think deeper, and just be better, this one’s a no-brainer. It’s not just a listen. It’s an experience that sticks with you. .

    Applicable Life Lessons!
Been a listener of AOM for going on 3 years now. The guests Brett selects for the show are always super insightful. If it’s not an episode that I can directly apply in my life (often times, it is), it’s still a super interesting listen. Give it a try!

    Non-Chatty, Thoughtful Guests
Consistently high quality and thoughtful guests on to discuss a wide variety of topics. They do an excellent job keeping the conversation on content rather than just being “chatty”. Great source of new or fun ideas on a consistent basis.

    Tied for my top two
I listen to this and Words and Numbers regularly. This was the first podcast I ever listened to that actually made me want to listen to podcasts and every man should listen to this show. One of the best shows out there that is fun educational and inspiring,

    Aspirational masculinity
Brett and Kate produce timeless insights for how men can be better men, better fathers, brothers, citizens, helpers, and leaders in our world. AoM avoids so much of the toxic and negative takes on what it means to be a man that has permeated popular society and leans in to the positive, life-affirming ways we can be the best versions of ourselves. The vision AoM promotes is truly an aspirational version of masculinity that helps us all be better for ourselves and each other. Acta non verba. Do hard things!

    Listener Since 2013
Brett is a fantastic host and has basically been a virtual mentor for me for the last 12 years. I can say without a doubt that this podcast is a key foundational pillar in supporting me as I strive to live a more virtuous life. As I look at my bookshelf I notice that most of these books came from Brett’s podcast guests or recommendations. Books such as “The Road” “I Will Teach You To Be Rich” “How To Win Friends And Influence People” “Microadventures” the list goes on. I can’t recommend this podcast or website enough. It’s down to earth, high quality, and educational in topics that cover nearly all facets of life. I come and go with other podcasts, however AoM is the only one I have listened to ever week since 2013. Keep up the good work Brett!

    Fantastic Podcast!
So, so many different, fascinating, and useful topics! There is something for everyone here and all episodes are high-quality conversations. Find a topic that interests you (with over 1,000 episodes there’s bound to be one) and give it a try!

    Wonderful Show!!!
This show is amazing. I have listened to every episode since 2018 when I discovered it and most of the episodes that came out prior. Out of over 1000 episodes there was maybe a handful that didn’t completely resonate with me. By my math Brett is over 99.5%!!! I am a recent new dad and I feel that listening to this show over the years has left me far better prepared for my new responsibilities than I would otherwise have been. Thank you.

I first started listening to AOM maybe 6 years ago and have enjoyed the broad spectrum of topics, guests and practical advice. I just had to write a review now bc I listened to the How to Winter podcast and really liked it since I live in Massachusetts where the winters are long, dark and cold. I’m looking forward to a change of perspective this winter! Keep up the good work Brett!

    Help raising your sons
I first encountered AoM via the website, which was being used as a model for some learning projects at Riverside (a boys’ learning center near Chicago—you should interview Peter Searby!). I later used many of the AoM articles and tutorials as a loose “curriculum” as I ran some community classes for homeschooled boys in another state. A mom friend introduced me to the podcast a few years later and I was thrilled to then have another format in which to enjoy much of the content that I had encountered on the website. I find almost all of the podcast guests and topics interesting, perhaps because I have a husband and 3 sons, so even if a topic is more male-specific, I appreciate having the information in order to understand my guys better. I do sometimes get a strange look though when I tell others it’s one of my favorite podcasts! It’s been invaluable to me as I’m parenting teenage and young adult sons. The topics are always relevant and current, and sharing episodes with my husband and sons has been a great way to introduce some important conversations into our family. Thank you for your efforts! AoM has been a real gift to me!

The best interviewer. Brett does his homework and keeps it tight. I’ve been listening for years and in my life this podcast has created tremendous value. Thanks.

Healthy masculinity and general life advice
This show could be called “the art of being a well rounded human being” or “the art of nontoxic masculinity.” Brett finds amazing authors and other guests to discuss various topics, most of which are equally applicable to men and women. With so much toxicity out there these days, this show is a breath of fresh air. Can’t recommend it enough!

I enjoy AOM so much. Brett finds topics that resonate with me each week. Sometimes I go back and relisten to shows that resonated with me. AOM is my go-to podcast.

    Life changing experience that’s free.
I have been listening or reading AOM media for so long it feels like it’s a part of who I am. I will turn 48 next year and it’s just been a wonderful experience to have this exquisite resource for education, motivation, and general entertainment. Thank you Brett and all the staff at AOM for being a bedrock of positivity and personal growth for so many years. Take care. JT

    Well done!
Very informative episode with Darren Candow on benefits of creatine, especially ensuring to cover the possible concerns about creatinine levels and kidney health. I appreciated this input as a medical provider. Thanks for digging a bit deeper. High quality questions from Brett.

    Survivorship Bias
I enjoy the podcast but some of the episodes profile people so unique that one gets the impression that anyone can duplicate what the person he interviews has done or the accomplishments of people who are given as examples. Not mentioned are the vast majority who are not exceptions to the rule. The podcast at times falls into the survivorship bias trap. Latest example is episode #1018. Also, it would be great if Brett could challenge the person interviewed on occasion in a nice way. He seems to always agree with the person without providing counter examples or having the person defend their position against those who might disagree.

    Great Website/Podcast
I have been a fan of Brett’s website for many years. “How to jump out of a moving car” is one of my all-time favorite articles from AOM that I have forwarded to many, many men that lack this skill…… Over the last year or so, I started listening to a few Podcasts instead of sports talk all day while I am working. I decided to give Brett’s Podcast a try and I was instantly hooked. His presentation/personality as host is exceptional. His topics and guests are well thought out and very interesting. Even the episode with the “laundry expert” was fascinating! Check out Brett’s podcast, You won't be disappointed.

    Best podcast out there
AOM is the only podcast I’ve consistently listened to over the past 5 years. Brett really does his homework with each guest, coming prepared with great questions and asking great follow-up questions too. Virtually every episode is intelligent, thought-provoking conversation. I love the breadth of topics that span the entire range of what it means to be a man, from survival skills and ancient history to ways to become a better friend, partner, and family member. Keep up the great work!

    Fantastic interviews
Brett’s a gifted interviewer. While even just having read and thought about his guests’ works prior the interview puts him ahead of the pack, he also always asks the right questions and provides enough of his own thought to ensure a meaningful discussion. I come away feeling that I understand the guests’ ideas, yet want to learn more.

    Engaging, varied, and useful
This podcast fills a niche that takes multiple other podcasts to even attempt. The breadth of topics mean everyone has a chance to benefit, and although geared towards men I’ve never felt like the lessons learned were solely about archetypal manliness, and more about being the best “you”. As a millennial I don’t think I got a good education in being a good man and discovering this podcast turned my world around. Lastly, unlike so many partisan or host-centered podcasts, I have a hard time discerning where Brett falls politically and that makes the information feel unbiased, vetted, and digestible. Thank you AoM team for years of service in civility.

    Excellent interviews of podcast guests
This is one of the very, very few podcasts where the attention is on the person being interviewed and the information they can share with the listener. So many other podcasters use the platform just to talk about themselves and I stop listening after an episode or two. In contrast, Brett keeps the primary focus on the guest and their work. He asks great questions which he can do because he has actually prepared and read their materials beforehand. He also does a great job linking the key points to other studies or people he’s interviewed before, so that it’s easier for the listener to see connections they might otherwise have missed. The topics are also very relevant for people always trying to better reach their potential. All in all, this is a fantastic podcast.

    A simple thanks.
I’ve learned, been motivated, and helped others by way of this podcast. As a commuter and podcast junkie, the McKay’s are a breath of fresh air. Thanks for continuing to put out great content, new and historical.

    Relevant, Useful, Encouraging
Brett and team have been an example for how to stay a constant learner. Enjoyable, informative, and a great sieve for the bloat of content that’s out there.

Outstanding Interviews; Noble View of Being a Man
An outstanding podcast for two reasons. First, the interviews: Brett reads every book for each interview; this practice allows him to ask detailed questions of each interview subject. Even better, he reads the books with charity, which means that he gives each book a full and fair hearing. He keeps the spotlight squarely on the interview subject rather than himself, so that you walk away having a clear understanding of the book’s basics while also being intrigued to go read the books for yourself. He doesn’t waste time with corny jokes or banter. In short, Brett provides a model of what a good (friendly) interviewer should do. Second, the podcast affirms a noble vision of what it means to be a man. There’s plenty to be found about fitness, weight loss, etc., but also about moral education, raising children, being a better husband, friendship, competence, etc. The choice of subjects indicates Brett’s view of what being a man is all about, and while Brett’s views emerge as part of the conversations he has with his guests, he isn’t pushy about his opinions, beliefs, etc. Instead, because he’s engaged in real dialogue, he’s able to connect with his guests both intellectually and morally, even as he talks with a wide range of experts. There are many excellent podcasts out there, and the Art of Manliness is certainly one of them. I’m thankful that Brett has brought something so good to such a wide audience, and I appreciate the wisdom I’ve gained from listening to this podcast.

    Outstanding interviews
As an old duffer I have listened to virtually every one of Brett’s interviews since the beginning. I have only heard one that wasn’t a five star and that was because of the interviewee, herself. A wide variety of topics that he makes interesting even as I start thinking that I won’t like. Keeps and old man in tune with modern times and trends. Outstanding!

    Consistently my favorite podcast
With my work I have the opportunity to listen to lots of books and podcast. Most podcasts come and go but AOM podcast seems to be the podcast that I never get tired of. I love the format, love that the conversations. The conversations are with people that dedicate time to their subject rather than ramble on their latest thought trends. Thanks AOM podcast!
