The Signal

From the writer of the #1 Podcast OUTLIERS and the new psychological thriller Podcast, GREETINGS FROM SALTON SEA. In 1961, at the height of the Cold War, an enigmatic CIA operative investigates the source of a mysterious shortwave signal—generated either by Russian double agents/spies and their handlers or originating from extraterrestrial aliens/UFOs, or both—and systematically tracks the source in order to disrupt the possible activation of a thermonuclear “dead man’s switch.” At the same time, a plucky young woman fights to rescue her younger brother—who has the ability to see alien “insect people”—from the clutches of ill-intentioned “government doctors,” while a dogged radio host in Dayton, Ohio uses his UFO-focused show to expose ongoing government-sanctioned conspiracies to hide the fact that extraterrestrial aliens not only exist, but are already living amongst us. That's how it ends?
This is the most rambling, well-acted, promising, intriguing, and disappointing podcast I've listened to in a while. I had to double-check that I wasn't missing an episode at the end, it ended so abruptly. The last episode has all of these interesting revelations which end up falling flat, because they were made so quickly and had basically no narrative resonance - it was like, hey, look at this, hahaha, this is the big reveal! Whoa! How wild is th--- And the podcast was done. To be clear, I call it rambling because they cover so many topics through the course of the show and it's never quite clear which one it's really about. Government espionage? Conspiracy theories? Aliens? Abductions? People with special powers? The CIA? Skinwalkers? Spycraft and number stations? It's all here, but the disparate points of view tend to muddy which angle the show is taking. And once they do tie it all together, there's like 4 minutes left. Sigh. It's a good premise but just not entirely clear. Where this not a Realm show, I'd be stoked for season two. But I doubt that's happening.

    Love the writing
Cassandra & team have done it again! Engaging, not ridiculously obvious but interesting character development - mysterious. I felt like I was watching a movie. I appreciated that all of the character voices sounded very different, as many podcasts fail to distinguish when they blend too much and it becomes mundane. Not this show! I really liked the demeanor of Swan - not too ruthless, mysterious, just enough information and just enough emotion/empathy to align with his purpose. . 5 stars! Hope there are more like this!

    Absolutely storytelling at its pinnacle!
A absolutely intriguing story with twist and turn, it’s been a while that a podcast has appeared with mystery and twist done in nine episodes, with readers clamoring for more. The author is on pare with the likes of Stephen King and, Dean Koontz. Hoping for more of this once in a blue moon exciting podcast to rear its terrifying and ability to scary and test one’s resolve. Kudos to the creators of this podcast that is above the mundane so called horror podcasts that just can’t hold a candle to this new comer. WG- Horror Times

Wow. This is one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to. Love the premise and the 1960’s Cold War espionage meets Aliens vibe.

    Engaging imagining
Great characters and a wonderfully complex plot. Very evocative of the post WWII era paranoia interweaving UFOlogy of the creepiest sort. Great fun listen!!!!
