The Squeeze

679

When life gives you lemons, what do you do with them? Over here at The Squeeze—we talk about it—"it" being our mental health and well being. Host Taylor Lautner's (no, not that guy, but she is married to that guy) introduction to mental health was at a young age, witnessing friends and family suffer in ways she couldn't fully understand. She started a nursing career in the peak of the pandemic and has been struggling with her own mental health ever since. Tay is joined co-host, husband Taylor Lautner, in addition to celebrity and expert guests to further the conversation surrounding mental wellness. At the end of the day, we're all pretty similar; even those living in the lime-est of lights can be weighed down by sour lemons. In addition to sharing coping strategies and stories, we hope that above all, this podcast offers the comfort of knowing you are not alone.

    Love these conversations
I love the conversations you have had with such wonderful people. I also love and admire the relationship between you two. It’s such a genuine friendship which you can see and hear so clearly. It’s so very special 🖤

    Love!
I absolutely love you guys! It’s almost a calming feeling to listen to you guys talk. You’re both so soothing and your voices but also in the context of what you’re talking about! Mental health is so important and we don’t talk about it enough! I was gonna tell you guys that my word for the year is balance! I just listened to the episode where you guys just talk with each other and give life updates. Which I’m one of the 20% that like that! Lol! But I’m having an issue with health and hormones right now and the word that popped in my head was balance! In all aspects of life, we have to find balance and within my body and within my life in general, I have to find balance! And I am bound and determined to do that! Y’all keep doing what you’re doing!

    Feedback
I adore you guys and love the premise of this show. The earlier episodes seemed to focus way more on mental health. It gave people a safe space to share vulnerable but often relatable stories. It seems like this show has transitioned away from that, and the conversations are more surface-level (could be found on any other podcast the guest goes on). I do hope the focus remains on mental health, as I know it truly will impact so many people on a deeper level!

    My favorite podcast!
I learn so much from the squeeze. I love the variety they bring here, because when it comes to mental health…it’s really not one size fits all. They challenge me to take care of myself better mentally, be more mindful of things, and they overall just keep it real. Love listening every week and grateful for the space they’ve created for everyone. 💛

    Great podcast! Love the Lautners
I think this podcast is so good, and I love how the Lautners are able to connect with so many different people and are able to share many different stories. My mom was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that has changed our lives forever. As believers and followers of Christ, we have grown together so much and find a lot of encouragement in prayer and the Bible. But this podcast also just shows great community support and it’s nice to be able to relate to others as well!! Thank you Taylor and Tay!! -Lydia

    Too much self help
Disappointed recently for the increase in self help and reality tv stars. Would rather see more mental health professionals and actual experts than the Jay shettys of the world.

    Room to improved
I am going to give some constructive criticism, so please bear with me. While I can tell that the Lautner are very sweet people, I think they need to be a bit more prepared for the interview or listen to their guest. I try to listen to a couple of episodes but the just ask question that are a bit redundant since the guest just mentioned. Not trying to be mean just some feedback to improved on.

    So sweet!
Love listening to the two of you!

This podcast is brought to you by the word “like”
Haven’t heard the word “like” so much since I was in the seventh grade. If you’re going to host a podcast, develop an adult vocabulary and manner of speaking. Please.

    Whitney episode disappointing
I’m not a Whitney Leavitt fan but I felt you guys were against her the entire time instead of letting her have her moment to explain things like you said you wanted to give her.

I don’t know what I would do without this podcast 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
The most wholesome podcast!! I truly hated podcast and didn’t understand why people listened to them until I found The Squeeze. I have listened to every single episode every single episode since. They are comforting and helpful. I have struggled with grief since 2020 and I love hearing the guest they bring on talk about their grief journey. I love what the Laurner’s do with their podcast. They are truly amazing people. If you don’t like the squeeze we cannot be friends. Period.

    Love
I love this podcast. Tay and Taylor are both so kind and understanding in the questions they ask. I’m intrigued in all guests even those who Im not familiar with because of the interview style. I’m excited to see else they have on the podcast.

The amount of “ya know”s os just too much

    Kind Criticism
Love this couple and the premise of this podcast. However, I really hope they take these reviews to heart and work on their interview skills. Producers, please talk to them about this!! I am not a harsh critic, but couldn't finish the episode with Whitney because of the use of "ya know." I think this type of media leaves little room for the overuse of filler words because most of us are listening while doing mindless tasks, driving, etc. I found myself cringing the whole time I listened.

    You Know?
The only episode I’ve listened to is the Whitney one and I could not help but notice the amount of “you know” moments. I would love for Tay and Taylor to work on their interview skills and questions. Not really interested in listening to more episodes because the lack of interview skills was too distracting.
  • Pollyanna and gerdie
    Poor interview skills
I think this show is only known because of famous hosts/guests. As many others verbalized the amount of “ya knows” stated throughout the Whitney episode was painful. They seemed like they had not prepared their questions and were trying to figure out what they were going to ask after they started talking.

    Ya know?
This podcast is hard to listen to. So many ya knows? Ya know?

    Next
I really enjoy listening to this pod cast but mrs Taylor says “like” “uhh” “yea” “you know” at least a million times during the episodes and it really annoys me I have to change what I’m listening too.. to have a pod cast but can’t speak is really hard to continue to listen too
  • DalilaPique
    Please take speech classes
The amount of “you knows” uttered in the Whitney Leavitt was so hard to get through. Seriously, it took me a week and a half to get through it.
  • MarintheUSA
    Unbearable amount of “you know”
A podcaster needs to be able to get their point across clearly and ask clear concise questions during interviews. The host is constantly tripping over “you know” and “like” to the point it’s unbearable. I’m a millennial woman, I understand filler words aren’t all bad but when it’s every 3 words it’s so grating! The host can’t even ask a straightforward question which is bizarre because don’t you have some written down going into an interview?? The way the host speaks is like when the professor calls on you and you haven’t been paying attention so you have to put together some word salad answer.

Um it’s been hard to ya know, listen
I um love the premise of um this podcast and ya know, some of the first episodes um I really enjoyed. BUT um ya know, it’s um been a little bit ya know, hard to um listen to um ya know, here lately. If you catch my drift? Ya know?
  • grb219519
    Ya know?
Normally I can get over people’s verbal fillers but the girls use of “ya know?” Every other word made it hard to listen to. I think the concept of the content is great, just hard to digest.
  • shhkarwit
    So so bad
How are you even podcast hosts? ZERO personality and zero questions for your guests?? What on earth happened
  • lushdeez
    Good show but needs editing
Just started listening because of the Whitney episode. Girl Tayler says “you know” so much, which is totally fine but Dear Media producers need to edit them out. AI can do this with 1 click of a button now.
  • EllenG99
    Genuine and Authentic
This is a unique podcast in how the hosts approach and handle their discussions. It’s gentle, kind, probing, serious, and thoughtful. Also fwiw I didn’t even notice any “you knows” or “likes.” It’s a real conversation. Also, policing how often/when someone uses “filler words” is heavily rooted in sexism. Anyway, great job hosts, keep it up!
  • smeddd5
    Filler Words
Would be better is host stops using filler words ever 3 words, “You know”
  • ChelseyCo
    You know?
I was initially excited to hear Whitney’s episode. However, I eventually had to stop listening due to the Tay’s excessive use of filler words, particularly 'you know.' It became increasingly frustrating as the phrase was repeated multiple times in almost every sentence, which made it difficult to stay focused on the actual content. While the topics were interesting, the host's speaking style became too distracting to enjoy the episodes fully. Unfortunately, this issue detracted from what could have been a great podcast.
  • danyldanys
    Hard to listen
I think there may have been some apprehension about bringing a guest onto the show. Interviewer should have been better prepared and given talking notes to help carry the conversation. Saying “you know” every other sentence makes it seem like she was beating around the bush from a direct question. Maybe she thought it could have come off harsh or like she was forcing her opinion and misconceptions. It was very awkward. This interview could have been half the time.

You guys have nice chemistry, and there is a kindness about you both. However, the interviewing needs to improve. There are classes you can take to get help on this. Simple things.. saying “like, uhm, literally” as fillers is very distraction. Work on your transitioning to question-listening-responding-next question. Keep up the hard work!

    Ya know
How do you become a podcast host when you don’t even know how to speak without filler words? Ya know?
  • Deidre42
You know? ..you know. You? NO !!
Ugh.. this was a BRUTAL listen. It’s like people talking to each other that don’t know what to say??? 0 personality with the hosts. I had never even heard of this podcast.. and will honestly never listen again. & if you don’t know.. now - YOU KNOW !!
  • Lizzzzz93
    Tough listen
Listed to the Whitney episode and it was painful to get through. Girl Tay was struggling with the interview and continued to use “umm” and “you know” throughout. I really wish I liked it more as I am a huge fan of the launters on Instagram!
  • You Know X 100
    “You know”
Please please please stop saying “you know” after every statement you make. It was really hard to stay engaged with the lack of communication skills on the host’s part.
  • LB.M.F
    You lost me.
I enjoyed the podcast the first few months but now it feels more like listening in to famous people meeting up for the first time and trying to make friends than it does a mental health podcast. As someone who doesn’t watch much tv at all, I don’t know who 95% of the guests on the show are and I’m going into it completely blind. Half of the episodes are spent talking about whatever reality show the guest was on and not mental health related at all. I started following the show because it felt like a refreshing open conversation about mental health and the struggles that come with it but I’m no longer following because I’m annoyed by the lack of mental health conversation and the tv gossip that fills the episodes.

Can’t stand the repetitive filler words
I had to turn it off due to the amount of times (female) Taylor says “umm” and “ya know”. It was painful. It’s a podcast, so being aware of those types of things is crucial for it to be an enjoyable listen.
  • Brittany_joe
    “You know” “umm”
The topics and guests are interesting, I’d love to keep listening but it’s hard to get through the hosts. The number of “you knows” per episode is wild.
  • Char-love
    You kno!?
Tyler seems well spoken, but his female cohost says, “like” and “you kno” consistently. Hard to listen, you kno?
  • quincymate
    “you know”
cannot listen to tay say “you know” between every half sentence any longer
  • Brooklyn33
    You know?
I came to this podcast to hear Whitney Levitts side of her story and it’s pretty hard to get through when every other second Tay just says you know you know you know you know you know she maybe said it 1000 times other than that great job great interview
  • SoFlo B
    You know
Great guests, good convos, but the overuse of the phrase “you know” kills it for me. I invite you to do a “you know” count per episode. Insane. Please no filler words (you know, like). Thank you.
  • gobucks1770
    Filler words
Girl Taylor says “like” or “you know” every other week
  • rachelr121218
    Not my favorite
Taylor saying “you know” as often as she does is so distracting.
  • Stellab2008
    Whitney
I really enjoyed the podcast with Whitney to hear her side but could not get past the amount of times “you know “ was used as a filler word .
  • lgcanton
    Please work on your vocabulary
I have never in my entire life heard so many ‘you knows’ and ‘umm’s’. So bad that I couldn’t even follow the questions that were trying to be asked. It was like Tay didn’t even know what she was asking and was going in circle’s of ‘you know’s’. Please for the sake of your audience, and maybe for the existence of the hour podcast WORK ON THIS!! Just pause, leave space, or use other words ‘for example’, etc. please!!! 🙏🏼 My two star is for this. I don’t think I could even listen to another one but really wanted to hear Whitney.

    Background
Love the podcast but a background in the guest would help before you start the interview.
