    Voice ruined it all
I loved the story line and was so excited to listen. However! Maria’s voice was so annoyingly obnoxious I couldn’t even finish listening.

    The premise is misleading
The premise is misleading and there’s so much going on without proper introductions to many of the characters that it becomes confusing and frustrating. The Maria character is wholly unlikeable, I don’t know if that’s down to the writing or the actor, but I spent the entire series rooting for Rhonda to kill her. The only episode I truly enjoyed was the historical, diary entry episode. If this had been about this family and their practice I would have thoroughly enjoyed it. But it wasn’t and I didn’t.

    Misleading trailer
The trailer claims the podcast is about hoodoo which is a very specific tradition with a very specific lineage. The opening scene is in Spanish?? And talks about summoning demons??? This is sensationalism and contributes to the stigmatization of traditionally Black cultural things. Pure garbage.

    Not for me
The premise sounded interesting so I gave this a listen. I made it to the end of the second episode before tapping out. The identity politics and the horrible wish fulfillment fantasy of the creator was just too annoying to continue. I guess if you’re super left leaning you might like it, but it wasn’t for me.

    Ambitious engaging
The writing, the acting, the sound design, it was all very good. But every so often there would be difficult to follow leaps in the narrative that made me feel like I missed something and a few voice actors sounded similar enough that I would get confused from time to time. This was definitely good enough for me to want a season two, but I hope that because it’s an audio drama, they spend more time establishing characters first and talk us through any big changes, making sure any action is in the sound or dialogue I thought they did a great job balancing the human story of the town with their mythos. They were establishing of this book that will no doubt appearing further seasons.

    Really enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed it! Creative and unique storyline as characters. Kept me o my the edge of my seat and looking forward to the next episode. Looking forward to season 2. I also enjoyed the creepy facts shared at the end of each episode. Though provoking and interesting. Great idea to include!

    Bravo!
Don’t listen to these candyarses that say this podcast are awful, awful is QCODE, this podcast is one of the best stories to come around in awhile, let’s get this podcast going again!

    Lame
Too many annoying voices in this podcast, and some very bad acting as well. I listened to the first two episodes, and I doubt that I will continue. The blatant virtue signaling of the writers is also extremely off putting. Land acknowledgements in FICTION? Please…..

    Amazing Show
I was riveted and was on the edge of my seat. Amazing! Amazing! Each show had you wanting to know what was going to happen next and they did not fail in you wanting more.

    Afflicted
Good podcast, is there gonna be more to it? I think it needs more demonic to it. And less zombie. There are is so many zombie podcasts, and shows already. But anyways, I give it four stars.
  • opieisadopey
    Lamé dialogue
Tried to get into, decent premise, but the whole “recorded on the occupied land of blah, blah “ was grating and just plain stupid

    Band voice-acting
I can’t stand the doctor’s incredibly bad voice acting. The actor sounds like a child and she just reads a script. It sounds extremely amateurish.

    Interesting!
I’m enjoying the story line. I like the characters. I have to finish listening to see if they can save the town.

Good Sound Design. That’s about it
I gave the first season a shot but not going to do anymore. The voice acting is borderline bad sometimes and the characters are written poorly (a lot of the “heroes” are just straight up unlivable). Cool premise. Bad execution.

    Lots of potential
This was actually entertaining. If you go into it with an open mind it naturally pulls you in. The zombie thing has been done many times, but the plot is still interesting. The distinct, diverse character voices made it easy to tell who’s talking, and the actors for August, Sheriff Bob, Hank, and Rhonda were very good. The rest were either a little over the top or couldn’t quite get into character fully. Many sounded like they were reading directly from a script. I think a bit more character development would’ve pulled us into the story even more. I didn’t know much about anyone, so it was hard to feel emotionally connected to them. And while the background effects were awesome, I’d probably tweak them down while the characters are talking so we can hear them a little better. Otherwise, bravo. Looking forward to seeing how this podcast continues to evolve.

    This is…ok
I am on chapter 2, and some of the accents are really bad. So is some of the acting, but I am goin to keep going in hopes this will get better.

    God Awful
Absolutely terrible acting. Plot is interesting, but the blatantly terrible acting completely detracts from it, character developement is a joke, all attempts at the doctor actually acting like a doctor is laughable well beyond the suspention of disbelief. If this podcast were to delete itself, the world would immediately become a better place.
  • Katsith
    Interesting but
Some of the acting is good but some is way over the top. One of the accents is cringeworthy and the person needs to give up acting.

Please stop putting in the high pitch rings
Great show! But the high pitch ringing is too much. I have to skip parts when it continues for too long.

Nope! I don’t do chants. The very first episode of season 1 began with chanting. Not doing it.

    B rated
Too much screaming it makes it cheesy like a bee really cheesy like a B rated movie

    Loved it
What a great show! Great production quality. Can’t wait for season 2
  • S-Cooke
    Had potential
There were a couple horribly executed accents. Too much assumed knowledge regarding “hoo doo”. The audio mixing is way off in parts, people crying or screaming and actual conversations going on but no way to hear them unless you want the crier to blow out your ear drums. Probably my biggest annoyance was the bad accent on a couple characters, I’d just cringe with every sentence.
  • SPNSherry
    Enjoyable
I smile when I see a new episode is ready, keep up the great writing!

    Another hit for Ransom Productions
I had high hopes after listening to Nightlight and Afflicted didn’t disappoint. Very cool premise, great writing. Give it a shot! You won’t be disappointed.

    This podcast obsessive LOVES IT!
Absolutely fantastic. Great production and the story is exciting as the mysteries unfold and the characters evolve. Definitely recommend!
  • aarmenta82
    Love it
I’m only 1 episode in and I love this!!!!! I’m not even a horror genre person but this changed that! Absolutely recommend

    Too much political agenda
The story is interesting, but it is laced with way too much political agenda. I listen to fiction podcasts to get away from the divisive nature of our reality at the current times. I only made it through one and a half episodes before I couldn’t take the overly blatant liberal propaganda anymore.
  • Shabana888
    Enjoyable except for Maria’s character
Loved the plot and story line. Most of the characters are well done. The doctor, Maria , was the absolute most annoying character. She was whining and complacent every time she opened her mouth. Every time I heard her speak I wanted to turn the podcast off.
  • bubblefreedom
Entertaining because it’s silly and the acting is terrible
The story and sound effects are fun, but god, they need a new cast. I got thrown out of the story many times. Mostly Maria, Kelsey, and Marie were notably awful… and the dialogue was forced and silly.
  • Lucritia
    Missing pieces
I made it to Chapter 7 and had to stop. Throughout the season so far, it feels like there needed to have been a season before this to explain what the writers are taking for granted that the audience will infer or intuit. Certain characters are unnecessarily obstinate (the doctor, for example) just to create tension. A previous season could have laid the groundwork for why. It’s a good premise, just needs some polish.
  • 6Sisyers
    Cheesy
It’s a bit cheesy. The writing is not that good, not up to standards of other podcasts I’ve listened to.
  • OPJelloQueen
    Good story, trope-y characters
I’m interested in what’s going on, but honestly the character dialogue and personalities just feel really stiff. It’s diverse, but awkward. Like I’m glad there’s a bilingual doctor, but they may want to take more cues from the actress in this case since sometimes the writing sounds like a Spanish class video. But I’m interested in the history they tease and I like the direction of the story. What’s the story of Abigail? How bad is this curse going to get? What are going to be the consequences of the actions of the ignorant?

    Absolute Masterpiece
Like conductors of a symphony, Tonia Ransom and Jen Zink deliver masterstrokes that vibrate with dark and frightening intensity. "AFFLICTED" is utterly gripping, unapologetically brutal and nightmarishly powerful in every conceivable way. It is a show that feels like nothing else out there today. Every episode is filled with the haunting grandeur of Lovecraftian-like cosmic horror and madness, from a certain book bound in human flesh, to its Southern folklore setting. It is that rare type of show that feels like thousands of hours were invested into each and every single minute recorded, in order to make the world feel tangible and alive, to make these characters and moments feel just the same. A show that is so brilliantly crafted that we, the audience, can't help but feel like we're there, a part of it all. From the writing, sound design, diverse cast and crew, along with the supurb acting, "AFFLICTED" is a masterpiece of horror and storytelling.

In a world where no one knows how to act…
I admittedly listened for longer than intended just for the fact it was so terrible that I couldn’t stop laughing
  • nerdfaerie28
    Spooky and excellent!
The dialogue, world, voice acting are all absolutely amazing. I’m so excited to see where this goes!
  • Ms51912
    Brilliant!
The writing and composition of each episode is incredible. The stories are captivating and none chilling. Diverse voices and diverse stories. Love it!

    Great Show
First of all, that theme song is 🔥I love the script and sound design. What a vivid episode! I am not surprised any work of Tonia Ransom and Jen Zink is always top-notch. Also, the detail at the end of the episode about your Aunt was super sweet. I can't wait for more episodes!
