Parental Development

23

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs we'll ever have. Dr. Leah Featherstone, clinical psychologist, and her sister, Beka Dean both grew up in a very traditional, conservative family, with a parenting style to match. Through her education and experience, Leah has moved away from that approach and now uses principles of attachment, relational neurobiology, and positive parenting to raise her own kids. The sisters talk through this new approach, with the goal of promoting cooperation and enhancing relationships between adults and the children they help to nurture, support, and raise.

    Essential conversations
How has this podcast not gone viral? These conversations are so important, not just for parenting but for how we treat all people around us. Leah and Beka encourage you to look beyond the behavior and understand what’s going on beneath the surface - and understanding how the human body and brain works is vital to doing this. That’s why this podcast has helped me interact with coworkers, friends, parents, etc. with more empathy, compassion and curiosity, not just kids. THANK YOU!

    Don’t miss this one.
Counseling session in a podcast form. Most podcasts skim over the help or are full of “fluff”. This one puts the boots on and goes straight to work. Practical advice for parents of kids in all ages. I go into each podcast with an open mind and leave with a renewed spirit to parent my daughters. I’m confident if you listen to just one episode you’ll be hooked for new ones to come & it will shape the way you parent in a fruitful way for both you and your kids. 5 stars, through and through. I could take pages upon pages of notes. Well done ladies! I am a listener for life.

    Powerful!
LOVE this podcast. So many times I’ve said to myself while listening “where were Leah and Beka when my kids were younger?!” I have 2 daughters that have left the nest now, but so many things I did as a parent I felt judged and misunderstood since it was so different from the way I was raised. So happy to have found you and have enjoyed listening to the episodes so far!!! I feel every teacher, future teacher, parent, parent to be, even grandparents (since this likely very different to how they were raised and raised their children) should listen and get a great grasp on the realities behind parenting!

For those who know there is a better way
Leah explains clearly the science behind why I’ve felt a pull towards this way of parenting versus the traditional way. It’s been refreshing and encouraging to hear that my instincts line up with the science of my children’s brain development. There’s too much to highlight in the first 6 episodes I’ve listened to. It’s a must listen for anyone who encounters children anywhere! Highly recommend!!
