TV & Film #42

Twenty years ago, you met Luke Danes...backward cap, plaid flannel, pouring the coffee. For the VERY first time, Scott Patterson (aka Luke) is watching Gilmore Girls. 154 episodes and 4 movies. We'll visit Stars Hollow, Doosey's Market, Miss Patty's, Mrs. Kim's antique shop and more pop culture references than you can count. Join us whether you're Team Dean, Team Logan or Team Jess. And, we'll see if we can figure out "who's the daddy". We'll talk fast, and if you can smell snow, if Paris isn't just a city in France, and Friday night dinner is a requirement... you don't want to miss this. Finally, cell phones are allowed. Listen everywhere you listen to podcasts. I AM ALL IN, an iHeartRadio podcast.

    Disappointed
I really want to enjoy this podcast but the constant ranting and talking over each other has made it impossible to listen to.
  • Alliewog
Why is your audio so choppy?
All the audio skips distract me more than the reviews are able to hold my interest…what the heck?
  • Akashford
    Awesome but watch out
I love the town meeting!! Suzanne and Tara are awesome. Scott is kind of a downer but I like the again with the cast/directors!!! Watch out for the news with Danielle and Amy. They spoil other shows without warning and just ruined “this is us” for me. (Yes I know it’s been out since 2022 but that’s still new in streaming world.)
  • KB4Family
    Love the New Format!
I am loving the new format! Pop culture, what’s new with the crew, and the again episode review with special guests is incredible! Keep it up!

    Great until season 7
This podcast has been great until season 7, when all they seem to do is trash the show.

Double down on the ads recently
I have been listening to and enjoying this show for years but since they started the Netflix movie reviews they have double down on ads and it has made the show unbearable to listen to. Ever 5 minutes there are 2-3 minutes of ads and it’s infuriating- starting with ads, 5 minutes in ads, 10 minutes in ads. The show isn’t worth listening to THAT many ads. Way to squeeze every last penny out of the last two episodes.

    It’s fine?
…Again? I can’t imagine the point in re-doing the podcast from the beginning except as some sort of money-grab which feels really lame. I started this podcast from the very beginning because I was excited to hear Scott’s perspective and also the perspective of someone watching it for the first time, and at a certain point I just felt too far in to stop. But I don’t find much of the episodes very interesting and I find myself tuning out of a lot of it. Idk. I listen to a lot of podcasts every week and this is the most skipped one in my library by far, especially the pop culture and other bonus content.

How many shows has Scott Patterson written?
Since Scott seems to know so much more than the Palladino’s……just asking. 🤣

    First episode of Extra!
The Extra! Extra! episode was cute. I especially love Danielle. Amy’s enthusiasm is evident and they play well together. I’ll keep listening to see where this goes.

    Love it!
I love this podcast! I love listening to the episode and then rewatching the episode afterwards to catch all the little things they talked about. It’s so funny and love hearing everyone’s POV! Also, Suzanne was a such a fun add and she’s my new fav…love all her Easter eggs and opinions.

    Drives me crazy
I watch Gilmore girls everyday. Even being a huge GG fan, I can’t stand this podcast. I took a 2 year break hoping it would get better, it hasn’t. If it weren’t for the occasional interesting factoid, I would stop.

    Enjoyable Messy Conversations
I enjoy this podcast. It is the only Gilmore Girls podcast I have been able to get into. I look forward to listening each week. To me, it feels more like I am overhearing a conversation from a group of friends. It is pretty informal and some friends talk more than others. I don’t always agree with what they say, and they don’t always agree with each other but that makes it fun. I love Gilmore Girls and have seen it several times but I don’t take it super seriously so I am ok with hearing lots of varying opinions and rolling my eyes when they get details wrong or don’t remember things. I usually skip pop culture and the one on ones.

    Love it!
Thank you for your time and dedication to the show and bringing the fans content! I loved hearing how Scott fell in love with the show as he started watching it for the first time and seeing how this developed over time. What they provide here is unique. It’s great to get different perspectives and opinions, hear about pop culture, acting and behind the scenes reality. I think too many people are listening hoping to hear what they want to hear and aren’t open to the interesting and maybe unexpected discussions provided. This may not be for everyone, but I appreciate the candid feelings and thoughts of this group and their guests. I’m having a great time!

    Eh
This wouldn’t be so bad if Amy wasn’t there. Can’t stand her. Talking over everyone, doing annoying things like eating on air and going on rants completely off topic, trying to force everyone to agree with her stupid and ridiculous opinions. She seems to want to talk about how her hair looks and what she’s wearing instead of Gilmore Girls. And she’s constantly spoiling the show for Scott and Danielle, who are watching it for the first time, even though they’ve told her over and over again not to. She is the worst part of this podcast, and it would be so much better without her. Scott is ok, but I get the impression he thinks he’s god’s gift to man. Love Danielle, Suzanne, and Tara. Gilmore Girls is my favorite show, and I’ve already listened to the entirety of Gilmore Guys, which was hilarious perfection.

    Stop Interrupting
I love looking back, but the constant interrupting is annoying and takes away from the show. Scott becomes rude and irritating when no one agrees with his opinion.
  • Southern and Sassy
    Hot and Cold
I either LOVE or HATE listen. No in between. Pop Culture is always a skip for me so I hate when it’s a Monday episode. :(

I can’t listen to this anymore
It’s just gets worse and worse. Scott Patterson comes across as a spoiled brat that never grew up. I used to love the character of Luke….listening to him on this podcast has ruined Luke for me.

    Get the gilmoreGirls
Its so weird they never have either of the stars on scotts awesome but come on

    Character flaws
I used to listen to this podcast back in season one but had to stop because of how many times I couldn’t understand how little the people talking really understand the characters in the show. I really want to agree more with Scott, but I don’t think he understands the characters that live in stars hollow. Especially Lorelei. I’m surprised that he seems to have such a love for Lorelei as Scott through Luke, but simultaneously thinks that she’s just a rich snob a lot of the time. I decided to listen to the latest episode today to see if anything had changed in the format because there used to be segments that felt really off-topic and we’re honestly just boring to listen to. And I still feel like the podcast cast doesn’t understand the story or the characters in the show. Scott seems truly upset to hear that Gilmore girls is about Lorelei. He even said “well I don’t have any more opinions. You guys have fun talking because I’m just flotsam.” that’s not at all what’s being said. How do you not know that the show is about Lorelei? It doesn’t negate the work that Scott has done nor the character of Luke. Is it disappointing that Rory is a disappointment? Yes. Is it off character for her? Absolutely not. Many many times throughout the original series we have seen where Rory doesn’t have the gumption that Lorelei has. Do the movies live up to the original? No. And a lot of the things you guys said about using certain characters as clowns is true. But it’s crazy to me that Scott doesn’t seem to understand that the very thing he was talking about – having a storyline and it not being boring is what the writers were doing. If everyone is thriving, which of course we all want to see by the end of these movies, then what is the storyline? There’s no obstacle to overcome. Did they do some of the characters dirty? Absolutely. But some of those characters really do make sense if you look at it from a life and character development stance. We don’t always get to know the backstory of everyone. That’s what’s cool about watching a show. We don’t always understand the motivation. I think they were trying to show us the motivation through these movies. I also agree with (I think it’s Amy) saying that she sees herself in Lorelei. Saying that women her age are going through those things. You have to remember, the audience has grown up too. Those of us that originally watched Gilmore girls are now adults. Even though I’m younger, I’ve always seen myself in Lorelei. Gilmore girls has always had a lot of whimsy, and that is what brings us back to it all the time, but it also has always had relationships and issues that speak to a more realistic level. If we look at Gilmore girls on a whole, their whole lives and think about character development and the way we want to see them grow, the movies are just one Point in that life. So if they did another movie that was another 10 years in the future we want to see development from where they are. But I think the writer of the show had said she wanted to show us what would happen if everything went wrong instead of everything going right. We wouldn’t believe it if the storyline of everyone was perfect.

    Too many interruptions
Amy and Scott please stop talking over and interrupting so much. This week’s episode was almost too much to listen to. I appreciate your opinions but let the others fully express theirs.

Amy must learn to shut up!
Throughout the podcast episodes I have found Amy usually insufferably grating. After listening to the Winter installments, I finally had to comment. Amy needs voice lessons, first of all, as her voice is too high pitched and very annoying when she gets excited and starts talking over everyone, which happens often. As a radio professional, hasn't anyone ever pointed this out to her? The tone of her voice often is like chalk on a board! Secondly, Amy's role should be to facilitate the conversation and Scott's inputs and perspectives, not talk over him, again and again, and when she disagrees with what he says, why does has to continue to talk over him and discount his opinion telling him he's wrong... Maybe just maybe, she is? And in this last episide she was like a dog with a bone, and had to have the last word, coming back with her same disagreeing points over and over to the point of ridiculously annoying exhaustion. I honestly think Amy is better suited in an off the air role.

Needs to be shorter; too much rambling about nothing
True rating: 2 1/2. Because there so many people talking all the time about nothing! Why?! It should be Scott and maybe one other co-host. And yes, invite another person from time to time. But…too many voices - and Amy is just grating my nerves. Take a big breath, Amy, because you’re really starting to bug me. And to everyone, stop going off on tangents. Stop talking over each other. Stop rambling about each others personal lives. It’s unnecessary, and it’s irritating. So you might ask, why do I still listen? Because I love Gilmore Girls. I like the behind-the-scenes. I like the genuine discussions about the trajectory & dialogue of the characters. I like Scott Patterson. Overall, it’s more satisfying than annoying. But, this ok podcast could be a great podcast with a little bit more editing and restraint. I know the “skip 30 seconds ahead” button well, even though the subject matter is near and dear to my heart.

    Love GG
More Scott, love Scott and his perspectives! I almost always agree with your take on the situations (like Luke’s denigration as a character in Winter). Love the show and everyone’s take and back and fort, HOWEVER Amy needs to learn to listen more and interrupt less. It’s not the Amy show. I know you’re all friends, however, Scott I see you and I validate your points. Sometimes it feels like your take gets bulldozed over.
  • Jenaslyn
    Love Scott, Amy stop arguing!
I’ve been listening for well over a year and love hearing Scott’s take and the discussions had by the crew, but for the first time I had to turn it off on this last winter episode because of Amy arguing with Scott over the stupid chair!! I just couldn’t take it anymore! If someone has a different opinion then her she has to talk them into submission and have the last word! It’s so disrespectful. I was cringing for Scott. If anything it should be his opinion that’s expressed the most! He was there, he held the script, acted the scenes! Lets be honest the fans are all here to hear him.
  • Espresso aficionado
If you love this show…rewatch with this crew!
I’m late to the game. Almost 50 years of age I was very busy in 2000-2007 never watched Gilmore. Until my daughter got to be Rory’s age in the show. (Cue waterworks) LOVE IT! (Told my mom to watch too) I am rewatching with this podcast and connect the most with Amy and Scott (cause I’m old too). Love the pop culture references explained. But mostly Scott’s “master class” in acting for film and television is fascinating.

    My sincerest apologies.
So you have to be man enough to admit you are wrong. I admit that I misinterpreted or misheard something and took it to me something completely different. This age of cyber stocking and cyber bullying takes a toll on a person psych. I take back everything I said in my last review, honestly, none of it had nothing to do with you guys. It wasn’t your fault and it was all on me. Again, my sincerest apologies. The addition of Suzanne has been very great. It’s been great to have some in intellectual expansion to these reviews. I enjoy the tangents and the rants. I also didn’t hate episode seven as much as other people did. Season seven excuse me. I actually think Lucy and Olivia aside from Paris were the best friends that Rory ever had. I think April was great addition to the show because she helped Luke grow and it was evident by just watching the episodes. You see Logan mature and actually become more than just a spoiled rich kid. there were other things that I can’t think of right now. Sometimes you would like to hear more insight from Scott having been a part of the show but overall the show just got better and better as it went on. And honestly, if you guys decided to watch the entire show from seasons one through seven all over again, I would be totally down with it. and I sincerely apologize for calling Amy old. I love you all and you have a part of the safe space that Gilmore girls has been for me for many many years now. Please don’t stop doing what you were doing and again sorry for my misinterpretations of what I heard and mistook to mean something that honestly didn’t mean what I thought it meant. You guys keep doing your thing.

    good podcast 👍☕️📺
A bit long, they babble a lot and get off topic but i like it. also, babette ate oatmeal!

    Wanted to like it
I was so excited for this podcast but I cannot listen without being irritated because Amy will not stop talking and speaking over people. I’d give it a 4/5 without her.
  • Gypsisoul1111
This is just the BEST(not any more as it goes on)
I have been looking for Stars Hollow in my road trip wanderings. I love Scott’s humor, I can listen to him talk for ever. The fact that he is telling us all about one of my most favorite things in the world???? AWESOME!!!! I love this podcast. Im not sure why he discusses with really young people that don’t get 90% of the references. That’s kind of irritating. Maybe an “older” person thrown in would be better. 3/12/22 Second addendum: I can’t listen to this Podcast any more. If it was just Scott it would be ok. Was so glad pop culture is separate so I can skip it. This is no longer entertaining. 8/21/24 I come back and TRY SO MANY times to listen to this podcast as I watch GG DVDs at least once a year and would love more insight that this podcast used to give in the beginning. Behind the scenes stuff etc. But the further into the seasons of this podcast there is no longer any behind the scenes info, it’s just basic BORING OPINIONS, and I literally cannot just cannot listen to Amy. Yeah she says she cant help butting in but gezuz. ALL THE TIME????? she talks over everyone, doesn’t let anyone talk. And it’s just her opinions that she butts in with. WHO CARES????oh and I noticed she will be against something and then someone else says something and she quickly agrees which is opposite. No credibility to the buttinski. This was my 4th or 5th time trying??? I just cant. Too bad.
  • Abupixel
    Amy, just stop.
I can’t take the whining and the over the top childish reactions here. Fine to criticize the writing and the story arc of season seven, but can you try to converse like adults? I had to turn off the latest podcast episode before it was over. Have to add there are way too many ads on this podcast. I’ll finish this one out, but I’ll never follow another iheart podcast, there so much better content out there without ads.
  • GreatGameReviews123
    Love this podcast
I love this podcast because I’m obsessed with Gilmore girls and it’s so fun. My biggest dream is to meet the cast of Gilmore girls. Especially Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham. I LOVE LAUREN GRAHAM!!! Y'all did so good playing your characters in Gilmore girls.

    Stop yawning!
If you can’t stop yawning thru the podcast pls pick another time to record. One person just kept obnoxiously yawning.
  • jpltroskey
    Bones to pick
Yall never seem to understand that your “bone to pick” is a peek into the inner workings of the character, not just how they present themselves on the outside. These moments that feel off often lead to bigger moments in later episodes. Cool it. Also, yall have more ads than any other podcast I listen too.
  • Fpcampbellsoup
    Love me some Gilmore girls
I have been watching and rewatching since the pilot was launched on tv..This is my go to show it’s my background noise. I feel very happy when I watch it. When I first discovered the podcast, I rewatched Gilmore every week. I love how each episode is dissected and when you guys point out the Easter eggs which I’ll be watching again. I was able to finally take the WB Tour and I absolutely loved it. I saw Mrs Kim’s home, sookies house, starshollow high. Rory’s study tree and of course the gazebo where I got to take a picture sitting on the steps. Just loved it. Thank you all for doing this podcast, I look forward to it each week.

Just started rewatching and loving this podcast!
I just started rewatching Gilmore Girls for the 3rd time and found this podcast so I'm watching along with the podcast. I'm loving it! I wish I was up to date so I could maybe be called into the episodes like they are doing in Season 1, so I may have to skip ahead because I see they are currently almost at the end of Season 7. I love listening to Scott's reactions to watching this for the first time. I love his opinions as both Scott and Luke. I also love all the pop culture references. I thought I got most of them all but after listening to them recap them, I do miss some so it's great to learn these things. Very interesting and enjoyable. Looking forward to rewatching while listening to this podcast at the same time.

My name is Sophie antenet Fartellem
I love this podcast so much, though Luke or (Scott Patterson) doesn't talk as much as he's honored to! Amy and his other co-host talk for practically the whole episode while Luke or Scott only gets to pitch in wee little Peeps! I've looked over all these reviews and watched all Gilmore Girls films as in a "Year in the Life" and their OG "Gilmore Girls", it's a great podcast but looking at other reviews we all think the co-hosts should let our true host talk for longer time! We're only listening to the podcast because of him, so let him talk and fell as shared as Amy and the other co-host! Another thing I feel is troublesome about this podcast is the recapping! my people, my hosts, my recappers, please try to not talk about other things for one second and try to stay of track of recapping the episodes, we need full attention to one episode not peeps from others here and there! We're here for all the description and design of episode structure, you are breaking the structure when you place the episode as one from a newer season! And what if a newer gal watching Gilmore Girls is here? They don't need your spoilers prancing all around them! They need freshly baked good old plan episodes, not spoilers from higher seasons!
  • IselaC
    Just love it!
This awesome podcast is full of laughs and it’s great getting to know more about one of my top favorite shows. I’m on my second rewatch beginning to end and it’s on my list of shows to rewatch yearly. I hope I can catch up before your finale episode. Thank you for doing this podcast.

    Demise of the Gilmore Girls
I was hoping when I listened to this podcast I could get a revised, optimistic review of seasons 6, 7, and the movies. Unfortunately, even you have been unable to do that, but it’s comforting to know I haven’t been wrong. They ruined Luke’s character in season 6, they ruined Lorelai and even Lane in season 7, and Rory and Paris in the movies. Going forward I will stop all rewatches at the end of season 5.
  • Sigkapoli
    Great until Season 7
Love, love, love the podcast, but much like Season 7 of the show, this season of the podcast is on life support. The pop culture minis are mostly ads, and the ads cut in at weird times. The regular episodes are much shorter, it’s like they can’t wait to stop recording. As someone who didn’t watch the show when it originally aired, Season 7 was off, but I didn’t know why.

Best podcast I’ve ever listened to!
This podcast is so funny and just so good. I love to listen to to this podcast in the morning and just whenever it’s so amazing and it’s just so funny to hear what Scott Patterson thinks about all the love interests and just the show in general! If you’re looking for a good podcast you should definitely listen to this podcast! It’s also really fun to learn about the auditions and just how they got into this INCREDIBLE show. I think you should listen to this podcast too!
  • GamingCait
    Super Fan is an understatement!
I started watching Gilmore Girls probably 25+ years ago (I’m 29) with my grandmother and I watch it probably twice a year ever since. I even have a Gilmore Girl tattoo (like many other fans). Being obsessed would be an understatement. Coming across this podcast was the greatest thing ever. I love you guys, I love the show. One day I would love to make it to California to do a tour!
  • loveloveliveloveloveutah
    Sometimes great, Sometimes not
I have enjoyed this podcast overall. I love all the hosts. I appreciate how it is organized. I enjoy all the extra knowledge about the filming of the show. All the extra interviews and how much Scott loves the fans. So good. I’d say my biggest beef is it can get stressful, annoying, and a downer to listen to them rattle on and on and on about the things they dislike. I get it. Season 7 isn’t as strong as all the other seasons. I genuinely get it. Get over it and just move on. If you don’t like how the writing is or that Luke isn’t as front as center… it’s because it’s “Gilmore Girls” not “Gilmore Girls and Luke”. Just move on.
  • jlroses
    Amy… enough.
For real, though. Everyone just please let Scott talk. He was the one on the show and that’s who we want to hear from most.
  • MorrMarketing
    So good!
My comfort podcast! Love listening to the debate and discussion. 💯👏
  • bish0106
    Amy, pipe down already
I have tried to get past it, but I cannot take Amy’s constant cutting in and screaming over everyone that her opinion is correct. Whether she agrees with the other hosts or not. No one cares! It’s incessant and is stressful to listen to on a podcast. Try another producer and this podcast might be better.
  • CassoLaMags
I enjoy this podcast, but their love for Logan is exhausting
I just don’t understand their love for Logan. I watched this show live and I hated him then, and I hate him now. His character is such a player and he has proven to be untrustworthy time and time again. Sure, the actor is charming, but the character is so bleh. And yet they hate Christopher, who is basically Logan. So that makes no sense to me. Anyway, now that they are on season seven they are fixated on the Luke and Lorelai relationship, with is something else I don’t care about. I never have and I never will. And I know I’m on the minority in that, but frankly they both deserve better. Luke is too grumpy and Lorelai can just be too much. It’s a poor match.
  • lorelai jinsoul
Love this show! Hate the rude comments
I love this podcast I listen to this podcast because I want to hear different opinions about my favorite show not to hear someone agree with my same opinions and a boring show just about the plot. I frankly think all these comments are rude and if it doesn’t bring them joy to listen then they just shouldn’t. I might not agree with everything you say on the podcast but that’s the point!! To hear different opinions and hear interpretations that is completely different from how I interpreted it. If you have to write a 3 paragraph comment on the problems you have with the podcast then just stop listening. I love Amy! Scott Danelle Tara and Suzanne I’m sorry for all these comments I think the show is great and it brings me so much joy to listen to ALL of your opinions it’s what makes the show interesting !!
  • Tracya210
Podcast that I used to love
Officially unfollowed the podcast at season 7, I love this show I have been watching since it was originally on TV, I have the DVD sets, it is on constant rewatch between me and my daughter at home. But it is just too stressful to listen to.
  • ulwamgelin
    Truly amazing
I love all the insight and opinions of these guys. I truly do. I find myself wondering what they think and feel about other movies/tv shows I watch all the time! After Gilmore is done, they should start just doing movie/show reviews!!
  • meecch
    Listen to Feedback
Anyone sending Amy nasty messages, or commenting awful things about her as a person, is out of line. That’s unacceptable. BUT, you need to acknowledge the difference between hateful trolls and fans with constructive feedback. If large amounts of people don’t like something about your show, maybe make an effort to work on it. You are who you are, but there are definitely things in this review section that are fixable. For example…if you spend an hour arguing about one tiny thing, maybe we don’t need to hear it all…It’s silly to completely disregard every single opinion because you’re labeling it as “hate”. Listeners are money, and there’s always room for improvement.
