Parenting Decolonized

68

Raising children is hard. Raising children while black is even harder. The Parenting Decolonized podcast shines the light on how colonization has impacted the black family structure and what to do about it. Host Yolanda Williams takes you on the journey as she learns how to raise liberated black children without breaking their spirits. Yolanda and her guests discuss how to decolonize your parenting by resisting old narratives, how to use conscious parenting as activism against white supremacy, reclaiming ancestral ways of parenting, and how to become a more mindful, conscious parent.

    Yolanda is doing essential work!!!!!!!
This podcast has truly broadened my understanding of how much of our life/our children’s lives have been impacted by the core principles of colonization. Some of the topics have surprised me initially and have left me feeling so enlightened and intrigued and ready to challenge the mindset and the apprehension I have that I wasn’t even aware of! Thank you so much for this. Per usual BW are saving the world 🦸🏿

White people, especially educators - you should be listening to this!
There are essential conversations being had on here around parenting and education on this phenomenal podcast. The episodes can be a powerful window into the unique struggles being faced by families of the global majority and it has helped me analyze and question my role in some of these struggles as a white parent and educator. Thank you for this show!

    A word!
I have been apart of Yolanda’s Facebook group for maybe over 2 years and subscribed to the podcast, but finally had a moment to actually sit and take in the content. And receive it. I didn’t even know it was possible for each episode to get better and better. It’s like, each time there is something that has me shouting to the ancestors - I’m going to work to abolish these systems, I’m going to liberate myself and my children, my lineage. Thank you Yolanda. This podcast is so so needed for so many of us, especially us Black, Indigenous and Latinx folx. If you haven’t subscribed, do it! It’s going to change your life. Decolonize you’re parenting!

    Necessary conversations
I found this while looking for a new tc podcast and was so happy to hear open and thoughtful conversations to consider how parenting is can be and how certain parenting has just been passed down without any critical engagement or introspection. Honest conversations about how adults need to focus on responding and not reacting to children. I’m not a parent but have a role and play a part in children within my family. This podcast may be focused on black parenting but I feel everyone has something to gain from listening with a open mind. Required listening for everyone. Love what you’re doing and wish Apple podcast and other platforms promote and increase visibility for podcasts like this one (but that’s a whole other conversation)

    So inspiring…
Just listened to the episode on entrepreneurship and parenting - my wife has been working with our girls on starting their own businesses centered around the natural interests and passions. After listening to this, I feel I can better help support all of them (including my wife)… just hit the “follow” button!

    Insightful and inspiring
This podcast makes you want to look at not only the areas of your parenting that have been impacted by colonialism, white supremacist delusion, abelism, and patriarchy, it makes you want to look at your life. So grateful for these discussions that move us all towards liberation, especially our children.
