Mamas Well - Parenting Conversations on Foster Care and Adoption

45

The Mama’s Well podcast is a place to fill our often empty buckets… a place to connect with others, as we explore the “gifts and the gaps” of foster and adoptive parenting. Mama’s Well provides a safe forum to ask difficult questions, questions we may feel uncomfortable asking our agency or caseworkers. It’s a place to gather insight and wisdom from those who have “been there” as well as place to grab some quick, user friendly, parenting tips or just a little bit of comfort when you’re feeling weary.

    Strength
I am a single foster mom for teenagers and your podcast gives me strength to keep doing what I’m doing. I’ve learned so much through your podcasts I have many favorites but of course you recently had Lauren talking about fostering as a single and I was really able to relate. THANK YOU for doing this! God bless you

    Changed my life
I started listening to this podcast because my husband and I were looking into fostering/adopting children. I wanted to hear real stories and better understand what this journey we were considering heading out on might look like, but I have received SO much more! It is like every time a new episode comes out it is EXACTLY what I need to hear. Even if it’s just a conversation about parenting I connected to all of it through the “parenting myself” idea. Thank you for this creation and for pouring your heart into it. I will forever be grateful.

    A lightbulb moment!
I watched Episode 38 with Dr. Jorina Elbers! This conversation started me on a journey to better understand the role of the brain as I deal with my own trauma and grief, helping others navigate their trauma as a pastor, and stepping into the mission of trauma with the children in our Learning Center. This journey has opened so many more doors in understanding how to meet needs better as the local church! I’m so grateful God placed this podcast in my path by way of a treasured family member. It is relative to not just foster and adoptive care, but also to a wide variety different life circumstances.

    100% Honest
There is a lot of noise out there competing for our ears. Tara and her guests bring you to a place of centering instead of just more stimulus. If you want honest encouragement along your journey, you’ve come to the right place.

    Hidden treasure.
This podcast is applicable to anyone in the parenting world. Parenting has its challenges and whether it is a biological, foster or adopted child, The information talked about it so beneficial. Tara has a wide range of experienced and quite frankly -amazing guests on this show. I love how real and raw the conversations are. One of my favorite ones is Tara interviewing her husband Kyle, you get to see the heart of where this podcast is coming from. I feel like when I listen to this podcast the conversation is paced. In a way that I reflect on my own parenting and am able to tweak and make changes. One example is in discussing trauma I learned how a parent trying to be brave and telling their child they are “fine” or “OK” (although had great intentions) actually dismisses their feelings. I know I have been guilty of this , so I started conversations in my own home revolving around this topic. Any resource that stimulates conversation in the family is a great resource. I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as I do.

    Loooove Mama’s Well
I love Tara and her podcasts!! She is truthful, vulnerable, and authentic with her struggles and feats with her own adoptive journey. She also is a self made expert on the topics of childhood trauma and attachment theory. I love how she takes special care to help listeners connect their own personal stories of development and ties that in to how they are parenting their foster or adoptive kids. Tara has lived her own healing journey which makes her relatable and easy to trust. I’m never disappointed when I tune in and am always left with helpful insights on parenting, well-being, and personal growth. She makes this mama feel well:) Thanks Tara!!

    THE Best Foster Parent Podcast
I discovered this podcast from a foster parent group on FB and so glad I took the leap to subscribe and listen in. The topics Tara covers are so relatable and really give me a weekly topic to focus on. I usually don’t like Mondays, but a new episode comes out each Monday and it keeps me going! As a new foster parent, there is so much to learn, experience and understand from so many angles. I even reached out with a question via her website and she responded within a day. I highly recommend Mamas Well podcast!

    Mama’s Well
I have learned so much from Tara’s podcasts. As a teacher, her podcasts have explained why some of my kids exhibit behaviors that made no sense to me. I am learning how to approach these kids and their behaviors in a much different way. There is a always a “why”, we just have to work to know the child, their parents/guardians, and their history!

    Favorite parenting podcast
This is by far my favorite parenting podcast. So insightful about all aspects of parenting. I am so grateful to have found it. You will learn new ways of thinking about things as well as things you didn’t even know you needed to hear. I’ve learned so much about myself throughout the process as well. It’s nice to know we are not alone in our parenting journey.

Highly recommend for foster & adoptive parents!
I highly recommend this podcast for foster and adoptive parents, as well as other parents navigating the challenges of raising children in this world. The host has selected many great guests to provide insight and share what they have learned from their education and/or experiences. This is also a great resource to have in your toolbox to share with other parents who may be asking difficult questions and trying to navigate struggles well. I have gleaned wisdom each time I have listened to one of these episodes!

    Major Encouragement!!
I have had adoption on my heart and mind for years. As I’ve struggled at times to raise my biological kids it seems my confidence to believe I am capable has dwindled. I love that in just a few podcasts I am already feeling my confidence start to return. And the bonus is that I am learning great tools to use with my biological kiddos too! I love this major encouragement for this great calling💕

Excellent resource for foster and adoptive parents
This podcast is packed with trauma informed parenting techniques in a relatable, conversational style. Love how the host interviews a wide variety of people related to foster care - from professionals to adoptive parents. Something that this podcast offers that similar ones don’t, is that the host serves up all of this trauma informed information along with her hard fought first hand knowledge of the necessity for caregivers to seek their own wellness first.

    Informative and Inspiring!
This podcast is raw, real and inspiring. Having had a kinship placement these podcast are a much needed tool to help us mommas along the way! Tara is transparent in her foster care journey and allows the listener to relate and gleam from her experience and from others on the show. Thanks for this deep well of wisdom!!

    Excellent resource for adoptive parents
I’ve just listened to the first three podcasts and I feel like the stories that were shared were exactly what I needed to know and understand from adults who were adopted as children as I think through how best to help my adopted kids navigate life as they grow up. Particularly important insights: every adopted child has questions, either voiced or held inside, about their story and where they came from. And the narratives they tell themselves to fill in those gaps in knowledge deeply affect their identity, even if those narratives aren’t true. Voicing those questions or pursuing those answers does not reflect poorly on their adoptive parents and rather than shut down those questions, we their parents need to be open and honest with them and help them find answers and then walk with them through the pain that those answers might bring. These thoughts have been eye-opening to me and I’m SO glad I heard them while my kids are still very young, before they’ve ever voiced those deep questions. Thank you for this podcast. This foster/adoptive mama is so grateful.
