Ben Standing’s podcast has emerged as the best go to media to understand the fast moving events related to Washington Football. With the his news on new F/A’s and his in-depth draft coverage you get a sober realistic real time update. Some in our local media has picked their favorites and adjust their coverage to what they want to see happen. Ben leaves his personal feelings aside and gives you a good neutral view of the latest events.

I love Ben and all his work, but man, time stamps are your friend. The only thing keeping him from 5 stars is the lack of time stamps.

Ben’s frankness is why I consistently engage with the Standig Room Only podcast … keep up the good work Ben!

What makes Ben great is that his written analysis is as good as his interviewing and pod skills. I’m not a Commanders fan (I am not a hater either), but I follow Ben because he is smart, articulate, and always insightful.

I love your show Ben. I had never listened to podcasts until COVID struck and I begin to work from home everyday. Found every podcast related to Washington Football team and yours is one of my favorites for content, journalist professionalism and football insight. My ONLY issue is the sound. Out of all the ones I listen to the sound quality is the lowest. I have to turn my volumes to max just to hear it. I listen to Keim, JP, Sheehan, Bram and others and this is the only show with that issue. Can you fix that? Otherwise. Keep doing what you’re doing!

To the point, no ads, great analysis and thinking. Love how Ben doesn’t add a lot of fluff or derogatory color, just talks football and the team.

Love Ben’s knowledge of the team and different angles he thinks up in terms of covering the team. One suggestion is to stop saying “here on The Standig Room Only podcast.” No other podcast hosts reference their podcast’s name and Ben says this a lot — presumably as a filler phrase people often use in public speaking. I would say acting more natural/less polished and not using filler phrases like this is a better approach and hopefully something Ben will incorporate as he keeps improving the delivery of the pod as a writer by trade.

I’m a fan of The Athletic for many reasons. Truly, it is the paper of record for the world of Sports. A much-needed authority, especially with the abdication of Sport Illustrated in recent years (Don’t tell Russell🤒) Over the past year, my favorite writer and podcaster on the platform has become Ben Standig, who stands alone among those covering the Commanders Beat. Yes, there are some great sports journalists and podcasters who cover this team and each one has a particular strength. At press conferences and interviews, Standig stands out by asking the hard and necessary questions, always in a thoughtful, authoritative manner. Standig has another particular and necessary strength: Understanding the context that surrounds the disaster that is the (Snyder-Era) Commanders Franchise. Ben has the right amount of skepticism regarding the statements, decisions and transactions coming out of Ashburn. It would be easy to immediately react negatively and cynically to all Ashburn-related happenings; the remaining fans of the franchise - including myself - work hard not to take that approach. Others, especially the (few)dyed-in-the-wool fans and some homer journalists, lap up all that Rivera and company sell, without the necessary skepticism that any NFL franchise should be greeted with, especially considering that complete honesty is not an option for any coach, GM, or owner. The stakes are high (think $$$ and enormous media footprint) for NFL stakeholders, as the NFL is the #1 entertainment property in the US, if not the world. With so many unknown variables, franchise leaders - for any NFL team - can’t afford to provide the entirety of their thought process or hesitations. To do so would invite even more second-guessing and knee-jerk reactions. Standig understands this and, with the right amount of skepticism but none of the snarkiness, adroitly approaches with his Beat with a fair mind and skilled restraint. Also, his podcast game has improved mightily over the last year. I appreciate that he talks to his audience like a regular person having a normal conversation and not a loudmouth, hot-take artist begging for twitter arguments. Rivera carries himself in an understated and classy manner, which the Snyder regime has made so difficult for those who came before coach Ron. Understandably, those paying attention to this franchise appreciate that in Rivera and see how clearly his team trusts him and wants to perform for him. (Some may disagree 🤠). Yes, there is still far to go for Rivera and his staff, in terms of results on the field. Still, I’m hanging w/Rivera and company in the coming years and look forward to Standig guiding us skillfully along the way.#StanningforStandig
