    Good and Bad!
I love the content and the subject matter. But as a scientist, conservationist, and waterfowl hunter, I was quite disappointed to hear negative comments towards ducks unlimited, as well as the concept of waterfowl hunting. The foundation of this show is upon scientific evidence, and glazing over the large volumes of data covering North American bird populations, and the impact of hunting those populations, is a juxtaposition of the message of using scientific data to demonstrate the natural world.

    Best podcast for families
We LOVE this podcast! My 5 year old and I listen to The Science of Birds every night before bed. This is the only podcast he has any interest in and we both are very, very into it. It’s interesting, calm and funny all at once.* True perfection. Now if only there were a Science of Whales, Science of Trees, Science of Amphibians. Truly can’t say enough good things about this podcast. Please never stop making new episodes! *We did both find the start of the Ostrich episode terrifying (the story about the ostrich attack). A warning before stories of violence would be great for those of us listening with kids :)

    WOW
This show is amazing! I checked it out when I first got into birding and it has helped me learn as I’ve learned to spot and identify birds. I am from the same city so I love when he uses examples from home. Thanks for the great content, Ivan!

    this pains me…
i love birds but this guy is the worst…it’s not what he says, it’s how he says it…his voice is just so phony and his attempt to be funny or playful is horrendous…i really, really wanted to listen, but he makes it impossible…i’m so disappointed…

    Learn about birds!
I have been on several Wild Latitudes nature tours, one with Ivan as a guide. It was amazing. I am not a serious birder but appreciate their beauty. Ivan’s podcast is a great way for me to learn more about birds in a fun, easy way. Both from his podcast and from traveling with him it is clear he has a passion for bird knowledge and is a world class expert.

    Cut the jokes out
It’s a bummer he tries to make jokes. It detracts from the show.
  • C Go 1
    Could easily be better!!!
If he cut out most of the cutesy comments and jokes, it would be easier to listen and learn.
  • Nistogic and fun

    Fantastic post-election binge pod
I’m into birding and nature podcast. I was looking for a post election podcast that I could binge pod. That was completely free of politics and current events. This is it! It’s a fun way to learn more about birds or to brush up on things that you learned before.

    Enjoyable Bird Content
The Science of Birds is THE BEST podcast I’ve come across that not only is educational information about the birds we love but also, entertaining and funny! Ivan is a great host and his deep dives into specific species are thoroughly researched and informative. Ivan takes a great deal of time to craft every single episode and it shows! Thanks so much Ivan!

    My Fave Bird Nerd Show
Ivan makes this show fun and so interesting. He is insightful and genuinely cares for the species he talks about. I appreciate that the most - he is a bird nerd. The content is always engaging, the stories are fun, and the quality is top-notch. This is one of the best produced podcasts I listen to, easy to listen to in the car or the headphones. I’ve been listening since the beginning, and it just keeps getting better. Good stuff, Ivan, thanks for the effort you put into sharing bird nerdery with us!

    Informative and humorous
I just came across this podcast. I started at the beginning and am working through every episode. Ivan has not yet persuaded me that birds are reptiles, but the rest of his information and trivia seem to check out. I also enjoy the dry humor.

This podcast is terrific. It provides LOTS of information without being boring. Ivan also presents everything in a language that is easy to follow and understand. It flows very nicely. Love it !

    Excellent, fun, and educational
Ivan is great at making the subject matter of birds interesting and funny at the same time. He has a vast knowledge of birds, bird behavior and biology. When he doesn’t know something he does the research to educate himself and his listeners. His podcasts are well researched and the production is top notch. I am happy to support Ivan’s podcast via Patreon and hope to go on one of his bird adventure trips one day. Keep up the great work Ivan! Can’t wait for the next episode.

    So interesting!
I just found this podcast. I listen to about three other birding podcast, but this supplies a lot of scientific information, which is fascinating. And I’ve got so many back episodes to catch up on. It took great diversion from the current political and world affairs environment.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I love this podcast it is so good! Personally I need podcasts to get to sleep, and I highly recommend this one. (Not trying to say it’s boring at all!!) This podcast is definitely a good podcast in general too. When you're cleaning, or in the car or just bored, this podcast is a good one to listen to. I think that you should also listen to this because it is educational. If you aren’t somebody that likes to listen to educational stuff then you should still listen to this because it is teaching you but it is teaching things other than science, math, ela, and history. It’s teaching about birds, and to some that is not boring to learn about! Thanks for reading HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PODCAST!!

Just what I was looking for!
There are a ton of podcasts about birding as a hobby, many of which are quite excellent, but not as many focused on the actual science of ornithology. Ivan wonderfully fills that void with this informative but welcoming and accessible podcast. A must-listen for all bird lovers!

    Bird Central
I’m starting at the beginning to glean everything I can from this podcast. Every episode is packed with information about birds that connects the listener to their habits, beauty, history and importance in their ecosystems. As a casual observer of backyard dinosaurs I’m grateful for the opportunity to expand my knowledge and appreciation of birds.

    Polar desert birds?

    Science and Humor
I mean who doesn’t like a few movie clip metaphors from Star Wars mixed with their bird science. This is an absolutely entertaining approach to the science of birds that includes ecological relationships with plants posed in a language we can all understand.

    Highly recommend!
A friend recommended this podcast and I have made it to episode 10 and will keep listening. Totally recommend as a great way to learn and have fun!

    New names
My husband and I are new birders. I often listen to this informative podcast. Regarding renaming common birds, I am all for it. Names that are descriptive will be helpful. I think it will also bring more citizens into conservation efforts.
  • T&E-M

    For the Love of Birds
I have tried many podcasts about birds, but this one is my favorite. Perhaps it’s due to the podcaster’s passion for birds or maybe it’s because of his corny bird jokes and bird puns.
  • MobiusTief

    Highly informative and enjoyable listen
I have never felt the drive to leave a review on a podcast before, but I enjoy this show so much I just had to leave a review. Phillipson makes it easy to learn all about birds in a relaxed and entertaining way. He gives audio and vivid descriptions that help the listener picture the birds and the situations in which Phillipson is describing them. I also appreciate his humor and the jokes he throws in.
