    stranger ranger
laurah norton, in a voice as smooth, and dark, as molasses, brings listeners the news of the day, except for one strange thing: the news is of the paranormal, and the day is whenever something strange appeared in the local paper. an old doll seeking vengeance (robert, please don’t come after me because i said you were old), underground tunnels on fire for decades, the moth man? maybe you’ve been there, seen that, but the delight of one strange thing is in the delivery, the suspenseful unspooling that leads to the hitch. it is smart, funny, and strangely, all gleaned from the news archives. what more could anyone possibly want? except paranormal popcorn?

    So much fun
One strange thing is unique and entertaining-with great writing and the topics aren’t the same stories everyone else covers.

    I love your podcast
I love how you narrate and the jokes actually make me laugh out loud. I love that you are whitty and don’t use old outdated , easy cheap jokes/puns. I binged all your episodes now following for all the new ones. Thank you for your show!

    Love This Show!
I’m a big true crime fan, but this show is always a welcome respite from that, giving me a ummmm…lighter kind of darkness? I love hearing about new cryptids and curses and such, and this show never fails to deliver! I always grin when Laura says “…except for one, strange thing…”

    Great little stories!
This is a great podcast to listen to for odd and interesting little stories. They are told very well and I love the host Laurah Norton!

    One of my favorites!
Always a delight to see this show up on my playlist! I love the variety strange of topics and storytelling, and it is well-written and researched.

    Perfect true crime/paranormal companion
If you’re a true crime, history, or paranormal fan, this is a perfect companion show for your rotation. I love hearing folklore that I haven’t heard before and learning about the strange history of local places. The research is spot on and the host is soothing and engaging. Love it!

    Great Show!
Absolutely love the podcast! The stories are always interesting, and the host speaks clearly and easily understood, unlike some other podcasts I’ve heard before

    Extreme amount of ads
I’ve never heard a podcast with more ads. Narrator sounds like Tricia Takanawa from Family Guy.

    AI voice
This totally sounds like a generated voice.

    A great talent
So well done and engaging! Not your average stories at all.

    Too Much Sarcasm
The stories would be much better without the sarcastic telling. It takes away from the story being told.

    Great voice
    And good stories!

    Lost in the preamble
I got tired after the first ten or so intros telling us how great these guys are. Get on with the show.

    LOTS of ads
I like the show and understand that podcasters have to make money, however the amount of ads given the length of the episode is completely disproportionate. I wish the episodes would be longer if there are going to be several minutes of ads.

My favorite podcast in the WORLD
The title says it all!!! I love it so much, Laura has a way with her delivery, her wit, and pseudo skepticism that make me want to subscribe to hear all the bonus episodes, and I would! Except for One. Strange. Thing… You see strangers, I am what most people would call a cheapskate and back in the year of our lord one thousand nine hundred and ninety three when I was just a wee lad of 10 short years old, my crisp one hundred dollar bill had vanished. My brother showed up to comfort me wearing his surprisingly new clothes and offered that perhaps aliens had taken it for gas money to get back home. I secretly loved that idea and since then have been a fan of the unexplained. This podcast tugs on my heartstrings in the most comforting way possible. Please don’t ever stop making new episodes and maybe one day I’ll come up out these pockets for all the extras you all are dangling right in front of me. Peace and Love Michael from Maryland

    Fun listen
Interesting stories! Too many ads for the length of the podcast. But the stories are cool and I keep it in my list for entertaining listening!

    Love this podcast
One Strange Thing is the perfect marriage of writing and delivery. It’s funny and creepy and completely unique, I’ve gone through all of the episodes and started replaying some of my favorites. You don’t have to be a believer or a skeptic to enjoy this podcast, it’s all about the storytelling. Highly highly recommend.

    Research?
The stories are interesting but the inaccuracies are astounding. I just heard the host declare that the Flathead lake in Montana is the largest natural freshwater lake by surface area outside of Alaska….ummm, no. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake by surface area in the world, every 5th grader knows this, hire better fact checkers, pleass

Like the Podcast but Too Many Ads
3 ads in a row from Daily Harvest does not improve my appetite. Yuck. If this continues, I’ll stop listening.

    Good Content, Annoying Presentation
The content is good, but I’m not sure why the host insists on such a terrible impersonation w/ her voice in more recent episodes. Edit: gave up on this. Script editing adding opinion/snarkiest and the continued terrible impersonation w/ her voice became too grating. Shame.

Reposting - This is such a great show!
Laura Norton is very entertaining and somehow she manages to keep finding strange and interesting topics to talk about. Lots of the stories are ones you may have heard of or you think you’ve figured out the arc of the story as soon as she starts describing it. But as the title of the show indicates, most of the stories she narrates would either be mildly interesting or not interesting at all…except for one strange thing…
  • Keyta7777
    Great stories but
Her voice, I tried, she sounds like a bad imitation of phoebe judge: I did not buoy the stories but I just can’t go any farther

    Why the shade?
I’ve been listening since this podcast started and enjoyed it at first. However, as the podcast progressed, I’ve noticed the host will make snide comments about Massachusetts and New England. If the shade was spread around to other regions and just jokes made in good fun, I would laugh along. But the tone is condescending. And it’s weird to hear an insult about how a state is spelled while listening to a Bigfoot story. The host repeatedly shows an anti-North bias that is unnecessary in a paranormal podcast. Perhaps I don’t appreciate the show because it’s geared toward a much younger audience.

    Interesting stories, polarizing voice
I love the content, usually stories I’ve never heard of which is awesome. But her voice….you are either gonna love it or hate it.

    Family friendly spooky
Finally a podcast I can listen to with my kid! No cursing! Not that I’m against it but there’s a million podcasts yet almost none you can listen to in the car with children.

Wow! Great topics, I’m hooked. Thank you.

    Irritating narration
Good stories, poor and irritating narration
  • Redsox356
    Highly recommend!
Great concept and perfectly executed. Wry style, but doesn’t try to be too joky and generally plays the stories straight. Subject matter is really fascinating. Have not heard most of these stories so far and listen to a lot of these type of podcasts. Laura has a wonderful voice.

    Phoebe Judge wannabe?
I’m sorry to say I had to give up on this one quickly because I couldn’t stand the host’s Phoebe Judge impersonation.
  • Luke Koji
    So much fun.
Interesting stories. Fun presentation style. Really enjoy.

    Noir Podcast!!!
Between her voice, the research and the fact these were printed stories it is so addictive ! A+

    Love it
It’s like Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in podcast form. The humor is wry, gentle and absolutely delightful. 100% fun

    <MANIACAL SCREAMING>
the podcast is great, but i have to stop listening because of the *completely* *horrifying* ad for [redacted] that comes in at the first commercial break, & begins with ABRUPT TERRIFIED HORROR MOVIE SCREAMING. so like: i’m listening to my quirky, quaint little podcast about old news stories & science & unexplained phenomena. great! and—<SHRILL, PETRIFIED SCREAMING>. what was ANYONE involved thinking?!? you’re literally scaring people off, & creating lifelong [redacted] haters while you’re at it! it’s wayyyyyy past time to go back to the drawing board.

    Cool EPs, Not Fave Host
The episodes are interesting and a nice break from the usual crime podcasts. But the host, I have to listen to this on 1 1/4 speed to stand it. She talks so slow and sounds like ai trying to emulate how they think a human would present a story 😖 sorry

    Premium episodes
I have been a big fan in the past. I understand that you want to encourage pay-for-play, but it is very annoying to see the “Premium” episodes listed among the “non-premium” episodes. If you think you are creating an incentive to sign up for the privilege of listening to episodes that are somehow better, you’re mistaken. I’ll listen to the episodes with ads, thank you very much. And, ONE MORE THING… I’m unsubscribing. It was fun for a while, but I’m out.

    So much potential
I love idea of this podcast. I listen to spooked and radio rental so I feel like I’m definitely the target audience. I gave two stars because I can appreciate the work that the host put into her performance but in the end it equates to a podcast that sounds like an audiobook. It could be so much better with some music in the background or voice actors for the quotes. It’s like the host is literally just reading a news article without any story arc or suspense whatsoever. As it is, I couldn’t pay attention after 20 minutes.
