    Always inspired by IBI!
Where to start! You can feel the care put into this podcast from Dario and his team you listen. Each episode never fails to remind me why I make the work I make and inspire to dream bigger. Every season is brings us into the future and into the past at just the right moments - always bringing us back to celebrating what Black creativity has in this moment. Everyone should be required to listen to this podcast as they capture histories and livelihoods that are foundational to American culture. IBI, morning, noon, and night! Thank you Dario!

    So good!
I really enjoyed the episode ft Jawara. The conversations around black beauty, and culture… & even greater, I love the parallels drawn between Dario and Jawara — the similarities in experiences (black church and dancehall) “the catharsis that takes place in body…movement…some kind of spirituality, transformation that both an aesthetic, movement and music allows for.” I’ve been exploring movement and the idea spirituality in my own work — so really enjoyed it.

    First rate
Inarguably preeminent, timely, and a gift to the greater collective of curious and learned peoples. An ongoing survey of contemporary intelligentsia and provocateurs of the African diaspora reflects a sociological endeavor not unlike W.E.B. Dubois’ in the 20th Century that employs keen insights into design, thoughtful understanding of how to (rectify bad design), where we are and where we can be under the auspices of careful consideration coupled with deliberate, unwavering action by leaders such as Dario and his guests.

    An Insightful Journey
My understanding of the purpose of the Institute of Black Imagination (IBI) is to demonstrate to Black and Brown individuals that their dreams can become reality. The work that Dario and the team at IBI are doing is incredible, using their platform to elevate highly successful individuals. Through their podcast, they showcase a "Pool of Black Genius" – accomplished individuals who are leading the way in various fields. Dario's unique interview style makes each episode a captivating journey. His insightful questions and engaging personality draw out the best in his guests, transforming the podcast into a masterclass across diverse disciplines. It's clear that Dario and his team meticulously research each guest, allowing for deep dives into their expertise. The podcast feels like a guided exploration of the minds of these remarkable individuals. Their stories are not just inspiring; they are educational. For me, Dr. Danielle Woods’ (Ep.78) story was particularly impactful. Hearing about a woman who excelled in such a demanding field, coming from Orlando, Florida (I have to show some hometown love), shattered any limitations I might have perceived. The podcast consistently reinforces the message that perseverance and self-belief are the keys to achievement. Listening to this podcast reminds me that the only limitations I have are those I impose on myself. I've learned to find solace in the challenges of life and understand that it's part of the process. You either win or you learn, and this is a very evident thread in all the episodes. IBI's message is clear: we are the architects of our own destinies. The podcast fosters a sense of empowerment, reminding listeners that challenges are opportunities for growth. With each episode, the concept of "winning or learning" resonates deeply, leaving a lasting impression. Overall, the Institute of Black Imagination is a powerful force for good. It's a must-listen for anyone seeking inspiration and a reminder of the boundless potential within all of us.

    Constellations…
I don’t know how it took so long for me to come across this podcast, but certainly glad I finally did. Darío, thank you dearly for the constellations of thought, word, time, and spirit that you bring into the Creative-scape!

    EPIC…
Dario Calmese is a wonder. I have never met him but I play with thoughts of him being my BFF. All of the words of greatness that one would use to describe him; would fail. He’s a genius; a humble one. The voice! The intelligence! The cadences in his voice! Then there’s the talent-no words! This podcast stimulates, informs, educates, inspires, and just makes the listener want go out and live big. Thank you Dario for giving so much of yourself and for this cauldron of BLACK MAGIC…

    Dancing Through Life Ep. 24
The latest episode of one of my favorite podcasts @blackimagination called “Dancing Through Life…” features Legendary Carmen Laballade known to many as the wife of Geoffrey Holder who was a huge star in the african american community in the 60s & 70s of dance, theater, movies, and television. LISTEN TO IT IS MY POINT, if you have no time to read all of this….. Carmen has had her own celebrated career in dance and theater, and in her 90 years she has done some things, seen some things, met some people and, importantly, learned some things too. Here, as host Dario Calmese, @dario.studio walks her through her life, he smartly lets her do the talking, stepping in at times to pull the meaning, the moral or the lesson at the core of her reflections. She drops diamonds, folks, pearls, rubies, opals , I mean all manner of precious bits of life lessons throughout every story, every digression or casual aside. You must listen. You must understand that older folks who sound unfocused, are sifting through all manner of attached feeling, meaning and related people places and events when opening up memories. I say that, because when it comes to some of the core take aways, Carmen couldn’t sound more like Gloria, my mom, if she wanted to. I was stunned over and over at how her advice was identical to Gloria’s. The whole convo is peppered with one liners relating to many things. I could’ve pulled at least 20 easily as witty, memorable, succinct and true as the one starting off this post above. So… all this to say; Go listen to what Miss Carmen is freakin’ about!. She may sound cute but she is a Battle Dragon, folks, to survive this long, done what she has, lived as she lived. if you think a 90 year has nothing to say that would mean anything for you. You are wrong, and short lived, so far, certainly. Definitely.

Fabulous, but host audio is low:)
I am new to this podcast and oh so happy I found it. While the conversations are engaging, it is challenging to hear the host. Is it possible to move his mic closer or increase his volume to match that of the person with whom he’s talking?

    Day 1 Fangirl
The way I was raised—a creative life was frivolous, selfish, a luxury I was not entitled to. But I couldn’t deny my calling. Darío and The Black Imagination podcast gives voice to the creative liberation I’ve been seeking. I’m so grateful 🙏🏽

    This podcast is essential.
After listening to the Kirby Episode I was motivated, inspired, and excited to learn so much more. So I listened to the episode with Jey and Kwasi of My Uber Life. This was extremely relevant. This episode opened my eyes and also reminded me to trust myself. I’ve been replaying the episode throughout my every day process to help me keep going and to continue pushing my creative energy. During these tuff times and anxiety from social media this gave me a new outlook to help me not overthink things and just go with it. Thank you Dario, - your brother from Miami! Keep this podcast going!

    Refreshing black voices
Easily my new favorite podcast. Philosophical and thought-provoking dialogue from dope black thought leaders. Interview questions are on point. Thank you Dario for providing this space to learn, open our minds, and grow. Congratulations on Viola Davis’ cover shoot as well.

Best culture podcast out right now
The complexity of Black culture and imagination is rarely seen on the fashion pages and TV shows - it is revealed in the late nights, arguments, and creative triumphs barely spoken about. This podcast gets into those types of hidden discussions way more than a typical “How You Made It” podcast (no shade). Dario, the host, and The Institute for Black Imagination gets into the real dirt with a cast of creative unicorns who have overcome obstacles, internal and external, and excelled, all while being black and fabulous.
