MCmikalTop 5 Actual PlayI’ve tried A LOT of actual play podcasts. FUN CITY is one of the best along with Friends at The Table, Dark Future Dice, NaddPod, and TAZ. Great group of players, interesting decisions, primo gm’ing & inventive world building!

MirrorDarkly61Bingeworthy seriesDefinitely my favorite actual play podcast. They get a lot right here, from the great sound design to the energy of the cast and the world-building by the GMs. I also love the extra content that they record for their Patreon subscribers. Keep up the great work!

FlavidSwell CountyThe best Shadowrun narrative play podcast available. The baseline of wit, humor, and daring from the cast ensures that the show’s excellent sound design and narrative ideas are enhanced through play. The superior way to consider a tumultuous future with company. There’s the future, but then there’s the mega future! Contained within the podcast feed is the quarantine spinoff Float City, which utilized Stillfleet to consider the continuance of life far beyond anything we will see in our timeline. What began as a necessary response to social upheaval morphs into a monument to friendship and perseverance despite the odds. My favorite finale. Highly recommended for anyone who has listened to and enjoyed Friends at the Table. A similar though distinct combination of people who like talking to each other coming together to take a story seriously.

EmpdeniedFar Future Dystopia That Helps Me Get Through Current OneI’m not sure I have the words to express all there is to appreciate about Fun City. Mike Rugnetta is one of the most intelligent, empathetic, and creative GMs in the ttprpg world. The cast is full of talented and socially intelligent polymaths, and . . .dang man. Just. Just give it a few episodes. And if you like it, I strongly recommend getting in on the bonus episodes. The between-episode chats added a whole layer of appreciation for the cast and game.

Isaak Waffleconsistently the best of the bestFun City is consistently one of the best audio RPG campaigns out there—but what else would you expect from a team this talented? The story decisions, production and editing, and improvisations are all inspired, and make for a delightful listening experience. It’s so good to listen to good friends, who trust each other, play through fraught situations like these—and to hear just how wild the group imagination can be! If you’re looking for a place to start—I strong recommend their pandemic arc, FLOAT CITY. Self-contained, and in stride right from the start.

amnesiackAmazing Narrative Play ShowMy favorite podcast! Fun City is consistently entertaining and well-produced with obvious effort made towards polishing the experience for the listener. Both arcs (Shadowrun and Stillfleet) are excellent while being very different from one another. The thread that carries through both of them is the amazing chemistry among the six cast members, an aspect that sets this show above and beyond its peers.

Ronnie O'StooliganI can not believe this is freeFun City is my absolute favorite podcast and I have no idea how the team is able to nail every single episode so consistently and impressively. They have created a fully-realized mixture of dungeons and dragons, improv comedy, heartfelt drama, unpredictable storytelling, and professional-grade sound design and I can not recommend it strongly enough. In one 10-minute chunk, I laughed so hard I started coughing and it made me think I had Covid, and I cried at a plot line that took 9 episodes to develop. Fun City is not to be missed.

Zach O'TooleMore like good cityIt’s good, folks. Just smash the dl button They do mega future crime but mostly it’s silly and fun Also the float city “miniseries” (it’s a a season) is excellent and they play Stillfleet which is a very cool game, and also they eat thicc leaves in it I’m begging you to stop reading this review and just dl. I don't like UberI recommend the show to basically everyoneMy family, friends, and comrades have all heard me evangelize about the show, lol. Imaginative, thought-provoking, and fun world and characters. They do a cool thing where there are two GMs, and it kinda just works. I like what they’re doing with the show and am excited to see where it goes. There’s a mini series that they did during the pandemic, as they were getting accustomed to Zoom recordings of the podcast—I highly recommend!!! That can be found in this same feed, under the name “Float City”. I wish this show got more attention. I listen through the RSS feed of their Patreon because that feed also has extra behind-the-scenes chats. But I worry that by listening through the Patreon feed—and not listening to this public feed—I’m not helping the public feed’s analytics. Hopefully this review helps get the show out to more folks—I’d also be cool if they made the Patreon RSS feed to only have the extra episodes, so I could support this public feed.

lakecryptLiterally my favorite narrative podcastI look forward to fun city every single time an episode comes out! The world building and characters are so compelling, and the production value is so high that it makes me upset this podcast isn’t more widely known! The episodes never run too long, and know just how to include enough fun table dialogue and inside jokes without derailing the whole story with confusing dice rolls and rule arguments. I have recommended this podcast by word of mouth to many people, including my older brother who said “ How is the audio quality? I’m not starting any more podcasts that make me wince to listen” . This podcast has amazing audio quality, probably because the Gm Mike is a sound designer on top of being a great gm. Please listen to this podcast, it’s genuinely unique and the story explores so many weird and wonderful sci fi scenarios and political questions that just don’t come up in other rpg shows I’ve heard.

The Superior DerkWriting this review so I don’t get face-off-edI came to this podcast after I saw who was involved. I don’t usually like ttrpg podcasts because they assume people are extremely familiar with the lore/mechanics of the game. This podcast does a great job of getting into a Shadowrun game in a beginner-friendly way. People who don’t like Shadowrun (as a world or a system) should look at the Float City arc of this podcast. The Stillfleet system is much easier to grasp, and who doesn’t love bug pirates?

Julesdrools666Love itReally excellent podcast love all the players and characters!!!!!

armahilloThe best narrative-driven liveplay serialized podcastFunny, exciting, imaginative, and at times feeling weirdly portentuous, this podcast has it all and is wildly entertaining. Set a century in the future, in NYC, mostly in the Brooklyn Archipelago (what did you THINK would happen when we continue to do nothing about rising sea levels?). Corporations have taken over. The NYPD is run as a business. There is no govt beyond corporate governance. And the characters have to live and survive in this (what I imagine is) high-tech libertarian paradise. You needn’t have ever played a tabletop roleplaying game to appreciate the show. Game tasks (dice rolling etc) are minimal and when they come up, readily apparent. The show is edited in a way that it is accessible to anyone interested. Support them on patreon, too! the additional content is released regularly and is similarly entertaining. Learn about Utah Jazz, Ipanema, commiserate in contemporary doom and share a warm mug of existential dreadlove.

dejajoueThe best Actual Play / Narrative Play podcast on the planetDo you like listening to funny, entertaining, smart people? Listen to this podcast. Do you like Shadowrun? Listen to this podcast. Do you -not- like Shadowrun? Still listen to this podcast.

DoublePhoenixAbsolutely my favorite TTRGPI’ve been crunching through this as nearly my only media for the last two weeks. I love the players, the characters, the story. Everyone is such a friendly voice to hear, and I dread the day coming up soon when I’ll run out of backlog. Their secondary chat episode feed on Patreon is lovely.

LookAnBird!Thought-provoking narrative playFortunate Horse makes the best podcasts and this is the best podcast Fortunate Horse makes. Unique collaborative GMing, a cast of geniuses playing compelling characters, and expert knowledge of how to turn any TTRPG into a gripping narrative. Highly recommended for fans of thoughtful socially-aware narratives like Disco Elysium, Kentucky Route Zero, and the works of Ursula K LeGuin.

Kar DargoTop Tier TTRPGThis is by far one of the the most engaging real play podcasts you will find on the internet. I’ve listened to a lot of them, and this is a top5 for me no question. Wish the PCs and DM did more voices, but still love it and I’m kind of sad I caught up on the back catalogue so quickly

grammarphoneIt's Just...Good?Do you enjoy sci-fi RPGs set in dynamic worlds teeming with life and intrigue? Fun city has it. How about compelling characters played by talented players and improvisors? It has that too. Jokes? Yep. Drama? Oh yeah. GMs? They have TWO (kinda)! I don't really have anything else to say except that it's just very good, and you should listen. Go on, just tap play.

Chief blackhawkAwesome!!I’m about 8 episodes in, and I love this show! It’s got amazing sound design, loveable characters, and a really cool and interesting take on gamemastering. I’ve recommended it to all my friends, now I suggest it to you
-
infinitely curiousAn actually enjoyable Shadowrun style podcast!Fun City is a breath of fresh air. The typical racism, slurs, hate, and general malaise found in Shadowrun APs is gone and yet you can still have a cyberpunk romp... gasp! Well done crew, tip jar’s got my appreciation.
-
SnozzberrysBest Actual-PlayI was skeptical of a Shadowrun actual play at first but was pleasantly surprised by how amazing this podcast is. Between the pro players, the flawless editing/sound design, and the effortless synergy of the co-DMs, the cast of Fun City really brings Shadowrun’s unique setting to life. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, Fun City is the best actual play podcast that I’ve ever listened to. If you’re a fan of fun, slightly crunchy, well-produced RPG podcasts then go listen to Fun City right now.
-
KabaelFunny, imaginative RPG campaignThe cast is clearly having a blast and does a great job bringing the world to light, adding details to keep things engaging but not getting bogged down in either the mechanics or trying to plan everything to perfection.

Edal Yaj1. I love mikes work, 2. This got me hooked on ttrpgI screenshot all the premonitions for this PodCast, because I was sooo hype to hear it! These guys were my first Patreon subscription. And since i learned this was happening, I got into tabletop podcasts. And this year i finally got a group to be a part of. Thank You Chums you’ve taught me much!!😭😭😭
-
Eddief419Innovative Use Of NPCsI’ve always been a fan of the “Oneshot Network” style of having PCs jump in to play random NPCs, so the idea of having a player who specifically plays all the antagonists/NPCs is an inspired choice! It really adds to the experience and makes everything funnier!
-
MoonshinerTouristTake a Break from DnDI was super excited to find a Shadowrun based podcast! Just started being a Shadowrun GM and appreciate getting to hear others play the game. Great production and sound quality and fun characters (as promised!).
-
SchwallaySuperbly Comfy and EngagingI was hooked on by Mike’s self advertising of this podcast and after the first three episodes, I couldn’t be more excited to see where this campaign goes <3
