Working with one’s hands can be met with the need for building construction. We just require that the skills, apprenticeships and the tax incentives exist for these jobs. The new state green energy skills for home construction and build out, also the plumbers and carpenters for remodel and modernization of existing structures. We see neither side discussing the plan to GET the 3-5 million homes of all types get built. That there is a demand for multi-generational and affordable housing for half the population that developers have refused to construct.

Is there any interest among investors to fund renewal of democracy? The Trump carnage era is literally burning 240 years of American democracy to the ground. Is anyone creating a vision for how we navigate this? If the pro-democracy billionaires aren’t going to lead, what good is their fortune? Nick, Mark Cuban, Bill Gates, Soros- there must be some conversation going on between you guys? Please tell me you’re not sitting back and just looking for the business opportunities in the ashes?

Politicians make big deals about small groups of people or the border, while behind the scenes, they’re making it harder and harder to get by. These experts pull back the curtain to show the the wizard amassing wealth for the already wealthy while raising prices and dropping real wages on the rest of us.

The presenters have a definite PoV but they are open about it. It’s one I happen to agree with. My issue with this podcast is how much Goldstein rants. He interrupts Hanauer regularly. I get that he’s the glib, more entertaining speaker and the team may feel it need that element. But he goes too far.

Just finished reading Democracy in Chains by Nancy Maclean of Duke University. The effort to “rein in” the federal government has been the fever dream of right wing activists for decades. The underlying philosophy is that poor people should work harder; basically it’s everyone for him or herself. In this paradigm, if the masses are able to vote, they will choose policies that benefit them which takes money away from the wealthy.

What does Dave Ramsey fall under is a an economist why does he not break down how Democratic Administrations show better 401k and job creation

Seems like the hosts are very liberal and anti capitalism. I’m fine with a showing talking through that, but not advertising as a neutral show with really subtle undertones of socialism.

Sad to see what I thought was a good channel of analysis and pushback from the lens of capitalism skepticism’s to a full mouthpiece to moronic concepts like “yeah we can fix capitalism” and “surely bidenomics are great” Good riddance

It’s rare in current media to find commentary around capitalism that is focused on making capitalism work well. There is plenty out there opposing it completely, or praising it completely, or pretending that bad ideas are really great ideas that are going to work for the people they’re shilling them too. That is where Pitchfork Economics comes in with its wonky cheerleading for a vision of kinder, more effective capitalism. I was glad to see wage theft as a recent topic but disappointed that different forms of wage theft were not explored in more detail. They spoke on a high level about classification and evading taxes but I wanted to hear much more discussion around the specific ways that corporations misclassify workers. I don’t think enough people are aware of what this looks like IRL and if they were they’d start to realize how pervasive it is. The idea of criminalizing wage theft by employers would be a game changer in terms of labor policy.

I want to start by saying I love this podcast. I listen to it every week, and I’ve learned a lot. However, the flying is miserable episode seemed so out of touch to me. I don’t care if it’s miserable to fly. Most of the people I know can’t afford to fly anywhere for any reason. Flying being miserable is just one more symptom of the erosion of our society.

Thank you for an easy way to understand “middle out bottom up” economics!! I have a republican neighbor who thinks the reason her portfolio is doing so well is that the interest rates haven’t gone up recently and that Biden controls the feds and interest rates!! Now I have some easy to understand reasons why her economic outlook is rosey and she should consider voting for Biden to keep it going!! 😃😃

Good content, poor audio quality

I recommend this podcast to people about once a week, no exaggeration. It has helped me become way more informed on macroeconomic issues and been a gateway to tons of learning about how the economy isn’t working for so so many people. Could not recommend more highly!

I absolutely love this show. I’ve listened to it for a couple of years now. I am a clinical social worker and I appreciate the intersection of economics and people’s access to food/shelter/fair work.

I always listen to Akimbo and Pitchfork Economics. I love the descriptive header for this show: explaining who gets what and why. If you listen to economists, Republicans and Democrats since the 1970’s, and even religious types, you discover the underlying beliefs that government is bad, poor people deserve to be poor, and government budgets are exactly like home budgets. No, no, no. You’ll learn that trickle-down economics benefits a few while middle-out benefits everyone. I used to believe all the ideas I just mentioned. But, I got gently “pitch-forked”. There’s a kinder way. Nick and Goldie and their crew are carrying the torches.

The way topics get broken down here helps me really understand economics in a way that improves on what I already had. I don’t know how many times I’ve referenced something from this show while explaining current events to others. Not my only source by a long shot, but always relevant and accessible, so certainly one of my favorite. I hope to see more people understand why we need these kinds of changes in policy.

It’s a great podcast, although sometimes it’s more depressing to know the truth. I’m willing to run for MI state or federal office and run on this platform if I can get Nick to bankroll my campaign.

Some of these episodes appear to be cherry picking data to fit preconceived political narratives. They’re not neutral or actually data based, despite claims to the contrary. Disappointing and makes this a lot of garbage you have to sort through. Not sure it’s worth the effort. There are a lot of other places to get rounded information. If you just listen to this you’ll end up ignorant.

This should be required listening for everyone concerned about what's happening to our failing democracy and economy. Nick & crew have done a lot of nice work with minimum wage, but the pod has drifted from an informative take on neoliberal economics to a more general conservative-bashing venue with an incrementally more favorable stance on destructive and extremist economic ideas like UBI and reparation.

I love the show. You guys and all your guest manage to make a lot of great points about potentially complex topics really easy to digest. Keep up the good fight!

My father in law insisted last fall inflation wasn’t happening. He quoted a word salad of nonsense from this particular podcast. I don’t have the heart to tell him any idiot with 1 semester of economics could have seen this coming. You guys are doing a public disservice.

Staying on top of events and trends effecting our economy is a challenge. But the better we understand our economy and how it operates the better we can make decisions that impact our lives and the world. Pitchfork Economics is the best podcast I’ve listened to that helps me understand the economy better. Not only are the hosts excellent at directing conversations and explaining complex terms to laypersons, but they have on guests who shed light on key economic elements - experts in their fields and journalists who report on in depth reviews of topics. The other thing that is unique about the hosts is that they admit they are capitalists who are trying to make the best out of capitalism with its impact on the majority of people. If you are interested in economics, give this a chance!

Great guests and lively discussion with digestible talking points for the layman. Book recommendations alone have given me so much food for thought. I look forward to this podcast every week!

Painfully predictable since it’s so unbalanced.

An essential listen for anyone that is interested in the real world mechanisms of economics, that often relates current events and authors to the abstract topics in the discipline. As a bonus, it's interesting to hear how a progressive venture capitalist thinks including investments decisions, and a wealth of evidence on why democratic communities matter.

Must listening for everyone involved in economic development agencies. Elucidates why so many of best intentioned Econ Devel programs fall short.

Long time listener who is finally writing a review to fulfill Nick’s Christmas wish. Really smart podcast. I’ve learned so much since it’s inception and recommend whenever the opportunity presents itself. Thanks for everything you do and can’t wait to see what’s next.
