Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend

52,530
Comedy #5All Genres #41

After 25 years at the Late Night desk, Conan realized that the only people at his holiday party are the men and women who work for him. Over the years and despite thousands of interviews, Conan has never made a real and lasting friendship with any of his celebrity guests. So, he started a podcast to do just that. Deeper, unboundedly playful, and free from FCC regulations, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend is a weekly opportunity for Conan to hang out with the people he enjoys most and perhaps find some real friendship along the way.

    Woke my husband up laughing
5:17am and couldn’t sleep so put on the Rob Reiner & Albert Brooks episode - dear lord I was belly laughing and shaking the bed … what an absolutely hysterical entertaining episode … thank you for a much needed respite from the side swiping swirling events in the world

    Do my ears deceive me?
Hi Conan, Sona, Matt, and whoever down the totem pole reads this first (probably Jordan Schlansky). I recently re-listened to the John C. Riley ep and my suspicions the first time around were aroused again. Was Larry David sitting front row? You can clearly hear his laugh throughout the show. Could someone unspool the podcast’s tape reel and confirm? Kisses, K Hall

More like, Conan needs an Ad, #amirite?
Look, Conan is one of the funniest people to ever walk the earth. And I get people gotta make that money. But you know what is annoying? Here’s a reenactment. *presses play* -5 minutes of ads- *Conan comes on* Conan “My guest today is one of my favorite people. In fact let’s take a break so I can wrap my mind around how great they are.” -5 more minutes of ads- I’m waiting for the day when his guest will be the CEO of one of the ad companies and they are sitting in a hot tub that just has $100 bills in it while they sip champagne and wear monocles and speak of the money they are making while the 7000th ad plays. You do you. I’m not mad about it, but it is annoying. Maybe you could have like 200 less ads in a typical 10000 ad episode?

    Bidets
I’d love to hear the bidet commercial at least a few more times. Were they not happy with it? It went away so fast?? It was SO FUNNY!! Keep sending the yucks - one yuck at a time!

    Fantastic!
Probably the best podcast I listen to. If you’re just looking for something fun to get away from the real world, this is the show to listen to.

    Funny but…40% is ads
Conan makes me laugh, very funny guy but…sheesh the amount of each ep that is long ads is tough listen. He should make his money and I get it but it’s a slog and makes me listen only to specific episodes/guests

Thank god it isn’t late night chained. One of my go to podcast when I’m bored to tears at work, now I tear up from laughter and Conan’s odd but demented wit.

I Feel Too Young to Listen…
As a high school student I do feel a bit young for this podcast- but it proves this pod is for anyone. It’s a refreshing kind of humor that never fails to make me laugh.

I love Conan. He is officially out of touch.
He doesn’t understand how under paid and under appreciated people are. He has gone above and beyond for people close to him, but the fact that he doesn’t relate to real life non-Hollywood folk’s struggles really hurts my fandom. Love you, Conan. Always will.

    Funny Funny Funny
My favorite podcast out there! He is the funniest, most brilliant comedian alive and his co-hosts are just perfect. A career of over 25 years in classical music; the last thing I want to do when I come home is listen to more music on my workouts, or drives. The show just makes me so happy. Thank you!!!:) -Meg

Laughing like an idiot and I love it
I listen to this podcast whenever I go for a walk or run. I often find myself laughing quite literally out loud and smiling like a fool. Passersby must think I’ve lost it. Conan and the team could make talking about celery sticks interesting and funny. Thank you for all you do and keep it coming!

To be fair, I love all things Conan, but how anyone can give this show anything other than 5 stars is incomprehensible to me. To those I say “cockarooooo.”

    Cuckoo for Coco at Chemo
I’ve been listening since the beginning for the absurdity and pure joy of Conan’s humor and the banter with Sona and Matt, but this podcast became extremely useful when I was doing chemotherapy and using ice on my head, hands and feet to prevent hair loss and neuropathy. The pain was nearly unbearable, and this podcast was the only thing I could listen to, and they got me through it! Thank you, Conan, Sona and Matt!!!

    Best show ever
It’s the best thing that has happened in America

    Brian Setzer Interview was excellent
Conan, there is a documentary that exists about George Harrison called A Beatle in Benton Illinois. It was made in 2005 and it does look dated.

    Absolutely nothing funny to say!
But I can say I love this podcast.

    Chill on the laugh track
Sona has an infectious laugh and attitude. I absolutely adore her. As a fellow Armenian myself, I have her ranked as a Top 3 Armenian, just ahead of Cher & behind only my grandmother and Serj Tankian. HOWEVER, this recent spat of over the top unnatural laughing at every Conan witticism is tough to listen to. It feels fake because there seems to be a conscious change in frequency and length of forced laughter lately. It’s really distracting.

    Crazy Conan
Conan is not only crazy smart, funny, fast witted, but he truly cares about the people that he talks to and also his listeners and fans. I saw him at the Chicago Theater back in 2006 or so, and he was amazing and his band was tremendous. I was on my feet the whole time pretty much embarrassing my daughter. Guess what? Didn’t care. She went in as a fan and came out a bigger one! Forever a fan favorite.

    Can I rate 10 stars?
I work the graveyard shift by myself and this podcast helps me keep my sanity. For me Conan was the greatest late night host of all time and now for me one of the greatest podcasts. Thanks for all the laughs 🥹

The fake laughter is too much. It's killing the show.
Just paused an episode to write this — I can't take it anymore, and it seems a number of recent reviewers feel the same: Sona's painfully forced laughter has far exceeded whatever value someone originally thought it might offer and is now (as it has been for the past year or so) extremely irritating & grating. It's bad, guys. I actively dread it, wincing at its onset and through its seemingly interminable duration — far beyond what is humanly possible to find THAT funny for THAT long, not to mention that often. It completely distracts from whatever else is going on. When Conan or a guest hits it with the wit (the laughter in question is notably absent at Matt Gourley's occasional zingers) it makes the thought process go from "this is funny" to "...wait, is it really THAT funny?" It feels disrespectful to whichever special guest is on, some of whom also seem annoyed by it (kudos to Larry David & others who have tried to politely call it out...for every 1 Larry there are 100 behind him secretly thinking the same thing). It's embarrassing for everyone. Having listened to the pod from its inception, it didn't used to be like this – I was originally wary of Sona's inclusion before eventually warming to her. But something's changed over time, transforming what was once a soothing aural balm to just plain aggravating (and, as we say on the street, cringe). I don't know if someone is putting Sona up to this or what. Is it Conan's doing? Laugh tracks are universally reviled amongst the youths, jsyk. Matt Gourley, you seem like an old-fashioned guy who takes pride in his work, a true man of the people...so if you're reading this...please find a clever way to make it stop (for your own job security if not for the poor guests and listeners). I am very sorry it's taken this turn.

    People…please stop hating on Sona!
I hate how people say that Sona’s laugh is forced or fake. Come on people. If you sat with Conan, would you have to force a laugh?? Didn’t think so! I LOVE Conan, Sona, and Matt. I laugh out loud all of the time. On my worst day, this show lifts me up. I feel like I am listening to down to earth people who are being themselves. So all you haters need to start laughing and stop complaining. Do not change a thing about this show!!! Love it!!!

How much do I love this podcast…
If I had twins I would name them Sona and Matt. Even if they were both boys.

    Don’t change the show
Please stop having the opening and closing of the show with Conan, Matt and sona not as long.. I don’t think y’all realize that it’s the best part of the show. I think y’all know that y’all are just being lazy.

    Can’t Get Enough of Conan!
Conan O’Brien is a source of happiness in my life. He makes me laugh in the darkest and lowest times. I have been watching him for years and I am so happy that he is doing this podcast show (which I watch on Youtube too). I consider this podcast as another form of self care. I always have the loudest laugh when I hear it especially when it’s Conan and his staff (I love Jordan Schlansky and all the various tasks that he does for Conan’s show). Conan you are the funniest and the most intelligent comedian. Please keep going. Love you!

    Conan I love you!
This show brings me so much joy. Anytime I’m feeling down, I know I can put on CONAF and within minutes I’m snorting (from laughter, not drugs). Thank you Conan for being one of few comedians who never relies on being cruel (aside from clearly playful cruelty to those you love) and can truly connect with anyone. I’ve never heard Conan be negative or pessimistic, despite everything going on in the world. I know it’s hard to imagine this given how absurd he is but he’s truly one of the people I look up to most, and I’ve yet to be disappointed. Please keep making content, I’d listen to you narrating paint drying!

    A Gem
Conan is an American treasure. This is the only podcast I truly laugh out loud at. Even at the ads! I love feeling like I’m part of their crew and in on all their inside jokes. When I started working remotely during the pandemic I got a bit lonely then found this podcast and it has brought me a lot of joy and the pricelessness of feeling connected. Anything Conan does is gold and I love Sona and Matt and their whole team. Thanks for always bringing a smile to my face and tears of laughter to my eyes.

    Too hard on Sona
I love the podcast because it’s fun and gently so, even when hilarious. But today, Conan was very funny but also a little too rough about Sona’s presence on a panel. She knows he is kidding and laughs a lot, but I thought he went too far. He needed only follow up with a couple of words of apology, reminding her and us that he was kidding. Sona is essential to the success of the show and Conan notes that often. But today, he was a little off.

Only podcast that makes me laugh out loud
When I say this, it is in no way a joke - I use this podcast as an antidepressant.

    pretty good
I like to listen to this radio show while I drive, and while I don’t always understand why they’re laughing, do I enjoy the different way their different voices sound. Also, why are Conan’s friends so mean to him? Is they joking?

    Tiffany Haddish
Wow……. This most recent episode was pure gold! My god she is funny and all of of you as a crew were amazing! Sona is wonderful with her laughter and Matt from time to time chimes in witch is always good. Conan, I wish I could talk to you about how you do your magic! This podcast is one of the very best! I look forward to it every week!!

I could not listen to more than 15 min of this one due to her use of “like” in every sentence. Ugh.
