I was very excited to listen to this until I started it. It is awkward and very difficult to get through. No offense to anyone because I can tell you worked hard on this but it’s not great. The name is deceiving and some of the voice actors were completely unconvincing and some of the voices are like nails on a chalkboard. The comedy is not funny either and I’m sorry but I can only be honest here.

Listened to all of the NoSleep podcast plus bonus content twice and was legitimately going through withdrawals. This helped get the monkey off my back xD Also, the scene in episode nine where they mention brick dust gave me the giggles so GD hard I almost dropped my phone XD Also, “is that Finn’s jacket?”

I’m writing a book about my childhood and my experiences of parents trying to drive me to suicide, so I understand the impulse to go on and on and on and write each awful thing they said verbatim, but it isn’t necessary. I feel like using that dialogue in excess only tires out the listener. Too much of it loses its impact and it starts to feel unhealthy to listen to. But idk maybe im just triggered! The storyline is interesting and some of the jokes made me LOL which is kinda hard to do, so thank you. Also, listening to this podcast is going to make me revise the suicidal parts of my own book to see where I can cut down that dialogue, so I appreciate the inspiration that this podcast gave me to do that. I’ll definitely keep my ears pricked up for future stories written by you, the concept is interesting and I’m interested to see what else is in store.

Annabella Crows voice is very hard on the ears. No offense please but her voice sounds terrible, very fake and unnatural. She sounds exact like she reading a script instead of it flowing naturally. I don’t want to hurt anyones feelings here but that is the only downfall to this show. Had she not been in the show I would have finished the series. I apologize if I hurt her feelings but this is what reviews are for right?

Poorly written dialogue made worse by the voice acting

Interesting story but the acting is so bad it is unlistenable.

Acting leaves a LOT to be desired. Jokes often are obvious and fall flat. Characters are unlikeable basic tropes that go nowhere. Not even an engaging enough story to finish.

So far it’s pretty entertaining. But my GOD does Annabelle’s voice make it hard to listen! And Brigette is almost just as bad! Anytime Annabelle starts talking I physically cringe. I’m hoping in season two these two ladies tone it down a bit. The grating voices aside, it’s a good storyline and easy to follow. It’s unique and interesting.

UPDATE: Just listened to this for a second time and I may be headed into my third time shortly. It is truly excellent, hilarious and enchanting. I cannot wait for the next season!! Hurry up ladies! I want some more! Original review: This podcast is so much fun! I love the storyline. The sound and voices are clear and easy to listen to. Omgs!!! I can’t wait to hear what happens next season!!!! That angel is going to get several earfuls from Gloria and Bridgget, that’s for sure.

I just finished binging the first (and so far only) season of Calling Darkness. It is a hilarious horror-comedy podcast about a group of women who sign up for acting lessons and end up accidentally summoning a demon. Oops! The voice acting is excellent, as is the sound design. The writing is wonderful - it’s funny, but also scary. And despite the humor, you end up actually caring about the different characters.

This was my first podcast. Enjoyed every minute of it. Perfect balance of horror and comedy. I can’t wait for the next season.

Great cast. The voice actors were absolutely brilliant. The problem is the writing. It’s bad... Like surprisingly bad. The demon character isn’t scary, it’s just gross and weird and I think playing around with mystery and suspense would have been better rather than going for grusomeness. Maybe the problem isn’t even that it’s not scary. It’s also not funny so it just feels pointless and disorganized. The main characters themselves had potential but the plot makes a mess of building relationships and interesting backstories. The male characters like Phineas and Montgomery weren’t necessary. They just came in gave orders and dismissed a group of grown women for being “too girly” or “too emotional”. Then the weird romance angle was cringey and forced kisses have been out for about as long as consent has been in. If you’re looking for a well-plotted, scary, yet intriguing podcast with women at the center of solving a mystery and bonding with one another, look elsewhere. This is a mess.

Had fun listening to this one. Great cast ;) a bit silly but in an enjoyable way that mixed with the horror theme, can’t wait for next season!!... need to know what happened to Phin’s jacket ha!

This one takes a few eps to rev up, and then humour, dry wit and horror ensue. Good and wicked fun with a glass of your favourite beverage.

Really, really enjoying this story. I love to listen to podcasts while cleaning or doing yard work and O am absolutely hooked! The story just flows so well. Great job!

Loving every minute of it! Comedic, scary and spooky, a killer combination!

The show has a clean concept, a couple of bumbling actresses accidentally summon a demon. What follows is an incredibly produced audio fiction that will pull you back in with every episode. Every character is interesting, the sound design is great, and you have a snarky narrator leading you through it. This show is worth a listen for sure!

Great start, can’t wait to see what else comes.

It is funny, suspenseful and frightening, very well done. Can not wait for episode 4.

Gave it the first two episodes, but it just didn’t pull me in. I didn’t have the feeling that I had to know what came next. Instead I could walk away. The performances and characters just didn’t click with me.

It's like an audio comedy version of Evil Dead with zingy one liners, immersive audio design and just enough horror gore. AND OH KATE SIEGEL!

I am loving the premise of the first episode and all the quirky characters that have gathered for this acting retreat. I am a particular fan of Gloria - she is so fabulously sardonic. And the fun twist at the end! Excited to see where this will go.

If you have any aversion to repetitive noises, a loud ticking clock keeps ticking, and ticking and ugh. Couldn’t finish the first episode because of it. Pity, seemed cool.

I'm hooked from the first episode! A mostly female cast with a wide variety of talent, complex and interesting characters, and a story that draws you in right from the start, plus there's spells and demons, so what's not to like?!

Great first episode! Liked the characterization of Mariela, Bridget, and Gloria especially, and the banter between all the characters was amusing. The music and sound effects did a good job of creating atmosphere and letting me imagine what was going on. And as for the story so far.. I did NOT expect what happened at the end! It’s going to be interesting to see what they all do next... Looking forward to a new ep!

I love the suspense, characters and build up. Nothing like a little dose of humor to mask how frightening the turn around the corner is going to be. If you haven’t started listening, you’re missing out.

The Minds behind this show have an amazing track record of storytelling, so I am so excited to see how this goes and I’m loving the content we’ve received so far and anticipation.
