SDSSTLA better recommendation:Save yourself some time (and brain cells) and listen to The Fifth Column instead. Hysteria is flat-out not good. I have listened for years and it just continues to decline in quality.

k723849Hateful and embarrassingThis is a long one, because I have listened for two years and I think it’s important to hold people accountable. I’ve had some concerns for a while now that Hysteria was just the liberal version of the hateful conservative shows that I think are unhealthy to listen to. My final straw happened to be the May 23rd ep. Erin confidently claims that the Bible supports blaming women, which is just academically incorrect. (just because a person in a story is punished does not mean the narrative is supporting that result; sometimes stories are showing injustice.) There is an entire academic field of study on this topic, if you really cared what any of those stories meant when they were written, or if you really wanted to know what actual Christians think of those stories. Beyond this fundamental lack of knowledge, the show makes disgusting generalizations about Christians, by assuming that the extremists are the norm or majority. Also, all the examples of scripture given are the ones shared with J*****m, so all the trash talk would also apply to them, whether you meant it or not. And if your response to that is, “No, they interpret it differently”, that is exactly my point. It can be, and is, interpreted and used differently by different groups. Acting like the right wing evangelicals are the baseline of the religion is factually incorrect and prejudiced. Having a podcast with such a large audience means you have a responsibility to, at the bare minimum, not be an a-hole because that inspires others to be same way. (Censored J because my original review was never posted. I think apple is indiscriminately filtering that and related words.)

Shereals99"Saltier than Mr. Peanut's jock strap"*Happy 300 episodes!! I am a Day 1 and this podcast has been with me through 10 moves, 2 job changes, and several road trips over the last 6 years. Today Michaela shouted out Erin's nicknames for terrible people, which are great, but so are her allusions, similes, and metaphors. The whole crew is awesome and I thank them for supplying most of my news😜 * if I am remembering correctly, this is from summer of 2020. I heard it when I was pulling in to my garage parking space. Laughed out loud

liljakeyHysteri-a-calBut not ha ha. Enjoy the warm glass of narrative and hypocrisy.
-
Boozie BeermanMy favoriteI love this pod so much! The combination of intelligence/snark/humor makes me look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays, especially since I listen to it at work.

nbsfmcWish it was 3x per weekLove hearing their commentary, I wish there were more episodes

Provincetown1234Changed over the past several monthsI used to listen to this every week, lately it’s become glib, out-of-touch, and the thoughtfulness has faded. It’s a hard thing to try to be witty, but maybe you don’t need to be. I don’t know if there isn’t enough budget or prep-time, but I find myself skipping this week to week and finally unsubscribed. There’s definitely a market for a women-hosted podcast that focuses on politics, but sadly this one isn’t it for me anymore.

FoxieJDThe Weekly Get-Together I NeedThis podcast is everything. The hosts, Erin and Alyssa, are wickedly funny and brilliant. Without being too parasocial, listening to the show feels like being out to dinner with friends who are fired up about the news and some random thing they read on the internet. I’ve never missed an episode and recommend it to everyone (whether they’ve asked for recommendations or not).

busy in ballardApril 25th EpisodeThanks for making sure that any young men listening (or old for that matter) are turned off by letting them know that most women feel all masculinity is toxic and the average cis male is more dangerous than most bears…except Polar bears. Then, make sure to follow that with a statement about men who stereotype women…gross, cheap, and far from what we expect from Crooked. Also, sadly, not funny in the least. Raise your bar, ladies, you are better than this.

Heels HaterWanted to love this podI first discovered Hysteria through Pod Save America, a pod I’m a huge fan of. But now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, I’ve had to unsubscribe. The host Erin has made comments over the past two years, like “Idky any woman would live in Wisconsin” or “if I were in Texas, I’d get out already”. Not all of us have the means to afford a house or a life in California, or the ability to “just move”. Some of us, like myself, are homeowners/small business owners (and are raising their small children near their grandparents) and have too many entanglements to just pick up and leave. It seems that host Erin lacks empathy and doesn’t recognize her own privilege. If you’re a progressive activist living in a red state, times are tough-especially post Roe. Find a pod with compassionate, true feminists that won’t make you feel worse.

JenseraiRethink the attempts at humorFYI it’s possible to build humor about things besides judging other people. Whenever y’all try to be funny, all you can seem to do is pick someone to judge. Why? It’s such weak humor.

BoondoggleBlissMore…The only complaint I have is that I have to wait 7 days for a new episode! If you came out with a daily show ever - I would be in heaven. I’m a 46 year old suburbanista and I love your spunk & humor, type of information discussed, guests & questions you ask! I just want more… :)
-
frenchfried53… it’s ‘like’…I so want to listen to & enjoy this podcast BUT unfortunately just about every other word spoken by Erin is ‘like’ … soooo distracting ☹️
-
IndigoBear1Informative and funny!Thank you so much for making this podcast and giving more information on women's rights and abortion. This is an amazing podcast and I really appreciate you creating it!
-
breslicoThe bestAlyssa and Erin bring all the wisdom, lots of humor, and amazing guests!
-
margot godfreyAlyssa- wildlife habitatHey, you should look at the National Wildlife Federation’s certified wildlife habitat program! They also have a monarch habitat initiative. Great organization! Great pod!
-
fe_MN_istAlso missing personal-politicalI’ve been a fan since the first episode but I miss the personal-political section of the pod with the amazing group of women who would talk about varying topics. The political aspect of the show is important, critical and I learn a lot, but it has gotten longer and more negative. Bring back Megan, Naomi, Kirin, Grace, Tian, Dana, Michaela, and the rest of the crew!
-
Mje9Love love this show.Thank you Erin and Alyssa for saying what I’m thinking. I look forward to listening to you every week. I’ve even sent some of your episodes to my father in law, a man who said he was a Goldwater Republican, is now an independent. And dare I say Democrat curious? Anyway, thank you for helping me keep my sanity and allowing me to enjoy when I’m petty.

Mo $ KellyMissing personal-politicalI have been in the Hysteria fan club since the very first episode! I have been happy to keep listening as the show has evolved over the years, but I do have to say that I deeply miss personal-political. I appreciate all the ways that Hysteria keeps me informed of political happenings, especially as it relates to reproductive rights and women’s issues. But it can get exhausting every week to hear again and again how we’re losing autonomy over our bodies, and while I value that knowledge I also used to seek Hysteria equally for the reprieve of topic the panelists would discuss. Also - the panelists were so amazing! Kieran, Megan, Michaela, Dana, Grace, Naomi, and so many more. It felt more like girlfriends just chatting during their portion of the episode, and I feel like I need that again to sustain my listenership.

JakehtcNormally love the showBut I just listened to an episode about women and men and felt like the person being interviewed was very thoughtful about the issues but Erin was very dogmatic and described a condition of how young men were being raised that hasn’t been the case for decades. As a Gen X mom of a son Gen Z boys were not raised the way she described- these boys come from two parent households in almost all cases and were not raised to think that women will serve them and their dads cooked and their moms travelled for work. Also, her reaction to the story of women wanting men who earn 500k and are over 6 feet tall was to say that these standards indicated that women were looking for ways to improve their lives. This is a crazy comment that the only way to improve your life is to find a rich, tall man. All that said I normally love Erin and Allysa- but a more thoughtful approach to these difficult problems would be greatly appreciated. The problem of young men goes far beyond whether or not women need men to marry. We need to work with men, we need them to vote with us and not against us, and we need acknowledge that young men are struggling and we need to be thoughtful about it. I don’t worry for my own son as he is kind, over 6 feet tall and while only 16 is likely to do just fine.

BJ178496WOW!Love the show every week, but this week with Katie Couric was one of my favorites! I want you guys to be friends as she said. Hope she is on again sometime! Love you both!
-
Rane42goodNot sure what of this is anymore.Been listening to the podcast for a couple of years. Turned of by weird hypocrisy and factual inaccuracy disguised as opinion.
-
•Andrea>Informative and Funny - A note, though…I appreciate the show’s updates on all things political, but I especially love the non-political conversations with guests about hot takes, “I Feel Petty,” and just everyday things that will make you laugh. For example, Caroline’s segment on the women’s soccer drama was pure gold! But, I agree with the other reviewer that the hating on Philly is distasteful for a show that aims to be inclusive. There’s a lot of great people in the city and suburbs, and we delivered a non-Trump presidency for you in 2020.
-
CSOlson91A little advice…I love the show. I’m no expert but I think you should call the podcast “Women Save America”.
-
Em_GootyJammin with the girlsThis is my favorite podcast, been listening for years! I save it to listen on the weekend during long walks with my dog. Would love to have the personal-political panel back. I miss the queen of Illinois, Megan, Julissa, the whole rotating crew!
-
emma hopewellChasing the joy!I look forward to your commentary every week on news in these United States, plus the interviews, and traditional segments, like ‘F that guy’ and Sani-Petty corner. Toxic masculinity abounds in Western New York. Thank you, Catholic church, for the toxic gift that keeps on giving. Hysteria helps me keep my sanity in this part of New York. Love that Juanita loves Christmas as do the hosts. Keep chasing the joy!
-
Nephele the cat💫The best cultural and political commentary aroundErin and Alyssa are the smartest, kindest, and funniest
-
terriblecvsPersonal/PoliticalI've seen a few other comments about this, and have been wondering the same thing: has the format changed? Is there no more panel for personal-political? I used to really enjoy this podcast, but it now feels a little less somehow. The panel (even when I didn't always agree) was more vibrant and dynamic, and nuanced. I'm hoping this change is temporary because I miss the way it used to be.
-
OreocookiedogSTOP BASHING PHILLYGirls, I listen every week. Big fan! Love you both! Want to make jam with Alyssa! I’m a 60 yr old mba educated person. Philly is the best. I grew up in Philly now I live in suburbs. We are PASSIONATE about our teams! So fun! I’ve been cheering since I was 11. I don’t climb poles but I love my teams. It’s a beautiful, diverse city! Stop basing us! 😜
-
MCDPDXMissing personal political!!As a long time fan and listener I’m wondering what happened to the panel discussion? I miss that and hope it’s just a temporary change in format.
-
cms819Astrology?I love this show, but you can’t complain that Republican policies on abortion are unscientific and in the same episode have a segment on astrology. Let’s live in the real world in all instances.
-
Walleye65xAstrology and celebrity gossipUgh
-
Magalla704I know I should forgive…..But I find it very difficult to do with Sen. Gillibrand. I appreciate the work she’s doing on the ERA but when I think about Al Franken, I just want to scream. We needed him on the Judiciary Committee, as you well know. I’ll have to get over it someday but not today…..
-
Meemmi!EnjoyI love this show. But where is personal/political? Bring back the gang! Don’t become Keep It!
-
JohnecoxsrI Love This ShowThe hosts are so comfortable in their own skin. Although I enjoy Erin, I especially enjoy Alyssa. She comes with a ton of experience and is so intelligent, articulate and fun. Kudos to the hosts and their support team.
-
LilRedheadedGirl7I wanted to like you. But you’re kinda crap.Ugh. I really hoped I would love this podcast. Seems like I should. But you’re just hard to listen to. I can’t relate. You seem blind to a lot of the world, unfortunately. And before y’all just write me off, I am a democrat. So that’s not it.
-
SSF1976Thank you from NMThank you for supporting our governor and her efforts to curb gun violence. Love your podcast.
-
GwynJ10Love these girlies a lotI’ve listened to Hysteria every week for a few years now. As a gen Z, I feel like Alyssa and Erin are my cool older sisters whose life advice I want to take. The news can be draining and depressing, but these two and their amazing guests keep me informed and energized. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t say “f that guy” in my head a million times. Thanks for being my sanity corner queens !!
-
RuthlessPGreat podcastLove especially today's episode, Pariarchy is Coming for You. Thanks for interesting perspectives and insights. And extra thanks for LGBTQ rights and acceptance, for advocacy for abortion and contraceptive rights. I appreciate knowing where to send my dollars- candidates, activist orgs, etc. Al's Shannon Watts one of my favorite people and activists. Thanks for having her on

VbequinnHighlight of my weekLove love this podcast. It’s part of my Thursday self-care routine.

I<3cookies123456789Feeling Blue in a Deep Red StateAt least I was feeling blue until I found this podcast. You guys are my little moment of sanity here in a deep red county located in Deep Red Indiana. It’s bananas here. The few of us Democrats who actually live here are fighting hard and to turn the state around. I feel as though we are fighting a losing battle. You guys are a bright spot in my week and a reminder that not everyone flies a Trump 2024 flag in the bed of their pickup, rolling coal on their way to Chick-Fil-A. I am a proud Hoosier and I’m (probably) not going anywhere (in my blue Prius electric hybrid).

KLH22222Love - but the ads are too longI love these women and look forward to their funny and thoughtful discussions each week! However… ladies the ads are way too long ! I know you are giving it your personal spin but they are the longest podcast ads I have ever heard. I shouldn’t be able to almost run a whole mile during the ad section haha
-
JennieappleseedFun and interesting discussionsThanks for sharing your thoughts and lives and sometimes imperfections with us each week.
-
alissatttWhaaat? How I love these women who I’ve heard often on Pod Save America. So smart and funny. So of course how I’d love Hysteria - right? Why are you talking about your bloated weddings? It was AOK - I guess - to have them - but did you need to dedicate so much time to talking about them? So Expensive, so bad for the environment in so many ways, so BORING. I know you women can do so so much better. Please!
-
powderboyeeNailing It!Amazingly hilarious & insightful. Love the political, cultural dialogue & exploration. Keep telling us how you really feel. Adore the cursing & F-Bombs because don’t we all feel that way?
-
zxxgtffBestExcellent!!!
-
SkwsNwsDoneI started listening to this podcast a while back because it was filled with interesting, thought-provoking dialogue on cultural and sociological topics. As time has gone on, however, it’s become more and more elitist and out of touch fluff that bores me to tears and makes me switch off. This latest episode was the last straw. Letting your guest say that 45 is actually funny because he just says what you’re thinking and not challenging that comment in the least?!?? I thought I was listening to CNN. You’ve lost the plot. You may as well just stick to your conversations about reality and bake-off shows because I’ll no longer take your conversations on politics or feminism seriously. But I guess as long as you keep getting money from the countless ads your show spews out, you’re sleeping like babies.
-
VainJakeDawPhenomenal - ad experience is better tooGreat show. I learn so much every week. I am a cis straight male to whom the show lends much needed perspective. They’ve also reworked the ads so they’re less intrusive.
-
Mr VictimNot Just for the Fairer Sex!I really like this podcast, which is a look at the day’s news and politics from women’s perspective. The hosts are smart and savvy and very funny women, and they give me (a total dude) useful insight into how the other half views the world. It’s a ton of fun.
-
goshdarnitjustsendHysteria for the WinThis is one of the best podcast out there. Goes over the news, important topics, and is petty all at the same time. Just what American women (men and others too) need at a time where it can be difficult to listen to the news.
