Might I suggest a whole new podcast called one last thing!

Best way to get all the basic news info daily! It’s our conversation starter at dinner—my husband always asks “so what did Brad talk about today?”

I have listened almost every day for many years. Brad asks great questions. Often they are “dumb” questions lol or “devil’s advocate” questions that The Daily would be just too fancy to ask. That’s what I love. There is a kind of open mindedness to the episodes. An attitude of real curiosity and positivity even in the face of all the global and local horrors. It’s a good vibe.

I've been listening to Start Here daily since 2021, my sophomore year of college. I got two bachelors degrees, one in journalism, and though I don't work in the field I find the show fun, informative, and generally ethical and well-researched. However, I was very disappointed by One Last Thing on today's episode. The team clearly did not take the time or effort to research the inhumane, cruel, and disgusting industries that are puppy mills and the pet stores that prop them up. By only speaking to a NY state legislator and not the dedicated activists behind the anti-mill movement, and instead choosing to platform a puppy miller, you have provided a lopsided and unfair view of the issue. In puppy mills, female dogs are bred until their uteruses prolapse. No health testing is done, so puppies are frequently born sick or become chronically ill very early on. When dogs can no longer breed, they are shot. Not humanely euthanized. Shot. I have a puppy mills rescue and she will forever be traumatized because for the first eight months of her life, she was kept in a cage smaller than herself. She never touched grass or saw outside until she was rescued at eight months. My mother was involved in the passage of Illinois' puppy mills sales ban and because of that I am well aware that the pet stores are provided with ample opportunity to sell from ETHICAL BREEDERS or rescues - but ETHICAL breeders won't sell to pet stores, because pet stores are so notorious for disgusting, cruel and disdainful treatment of the animals in their care. I am very disappointed with the disregard for truthful coverage this issue was shown. There are more important things than unethical puppy millers bottom lines - these dogs' lives. Do better! You always have in the past.

I used to like this podcast and generally trusted the information presented. But this podcast has held President Biden to a much higher standard than Trump. You can’t compare a normal, decent President to a corrupt dangerous liar. ABC not only normalizes Trump, now they bow to him and make a $15 million settlement for a ridiculous lawsuit. Trump would have dropped that lawsuit, but ABC kissed his feet. I am dropping ABC.

On today’s (12/12/24) “one last thing”, I was thinking about this topic the other day! And here you are talking about it and answering my questions! Are y’all reading my mind? Thanks to the amazing team in informative and relative reporting! Y’all are the best!

After years of listening, had to unfollow the show. I couldn’t stomach their biased coverage of the UHC CEO Assassination. I hoped they might at least mention the fact that so many Americans are celebrating this a step in the right direction, but no. Podcast for boot lickers and scum.

I tune in to this podcast faithfully. I feel in tuned and connected with what’s important in the world. And I appreciate how they conduct this podcast with a neutral structure. I find that so, very, refreshing. I make it a point to forgo watching news on tv. I have little faith and just as much trust in televised news. But I look forward to listening to this daily!

Look, the podcast is generated by ABC News and has some good stuff. However, every time I tell Siri to play the latest episode, I cringe and hope that Brad isn’t the host that day. His voice and personality are juvenile and make the entire show cringey. Whether he is genuinely uninformed or simply plays the roll so that uninformed listeners will relate, the guy just comes off as someone who isn’t qualified to be a reporter or journalist. He’s credibility is low as he asks embarrassing and obvious questions. Guest hosts are generally great to excellent and come off as relaxed while still being professional, which leads me to believe that the persona that Brad projects isn’t part of a strategy to simplify news for unsophisticated listeners, but rather just a poor choice for host. ABC produces excellent news, this morning podcast is below their standards. I’d change my rating to five stars if they’d replace Brad with a competent, intelligent, articulate reporter. Or, if there genuinely is a market for Brad, have a parallel morning news podcast that doesn’t feature a man-child.

My wife and I used Start Here as our morning wake up ritual. Brad used to do a very good job. The problem is, Brad has gotten more and more cutesy and punny. Also, Brad hasn’t decided if he wants to be a newscaster, or a salesman for ads. Sorry, Brad, you can’t or at least shouldn’t do both. You are either someone I trust to give me the news honestly, or you are someone trying to sell me soap. I don’t trust the latter person. So, I’m sticking to my principles. I’m unsubscribing. If you ever decide you are a reporter, we’ll be back.

What happened to part 2. You started another story without playing this?

Really? This is your Thanksgiving episode? How callous can you be? Shame on you!! Good Bye!!

Can we hear actual news? First the election and now everyday its Trump, you all are obsessed with him, there is so much happening in the world, in our own country! when can we start hearing about real news again??

I feel refreshed after listening to this podcast each day. They do a great days on daily happenings with helpful clarification on why it matters. I find them non-biased - which is super refreshing. Great job - you are not fake news, you are the real deal! I have shared with my friends and we all agree.

This show seems to never fail be be fun and understandable to my small head.

Most especially love Fridays when Brad starts listing the amazing team that works on this show, because I know the weekend is at hand! For a long time I struggled with how to digest the toughest parts of the news cycle, and this podcast was the first way I was able to learn about current events without feeling completely lost! Been a listener for four years now, don’t change a thing! Love the “One Last Thing” being the last bit of news to leave us on a high note!

I truly Love this podcast! I have been listening to it for years now…and enjoy it more than local news or worldwide news...you brake the news down… giving me more information…. But I didn’t understand why on 10/24/24 there was no mention of the nations oldest person to pass away miss Elizabeth Francis on the same day that.miss Julia Hawkins passed away… no she never ran a marathon, but the fact that she lived to be 115 years old she did deserve some kind of acknowledgment. I started listening to this podcast after I heard that Jolenta Greenberg’s husband has a morning news. I’m a news junkie and I wanted to have another perspective to listen to while traveling to work. I’ve been listening since but Jolenta’s husband’s “news voice” sounded different from his normal one he use with Jolenta. The one last thing segment is just fun and different. And yes, I wrote this review to bring up the awesome Jolenta Greenberg as much as possible. I dare you to use this opportunity to talk about your wife, Brad.

I gave Brad & Co a 5 star review entitled Worth Your Time but their irresponsible, one sided, patronizing presentation of the non-citizen voter issue today sadly requires an update. What happened to the woman running in Texas was not at all right, however, to act like there are no non-citizens voting simply because we have laws against it is quite naive. And a friendly Fact Check to your declaration that fears of voter fraud are based on “misinformation” and things that are simply not true: Governor Youngkin removed over 6,000 non-citizens from voter rolls in early August and publicly announced that folks could bring proof of citizenship to be re-registered but the fact that he found over 6,000 just in his state when the last presidential election was decided by about 40,000 is alarming. He also removed tens of thousands of dead people from the rolls. This news was widely reported yet Brad & Co chose not to mention it today (10/23/24). I will keep listening for a while, but if this unbalanced reporting continues, I won’t stick around.

Too partisan. ABC places promoting the leftist agenda ahead of looking for the truth. No one can trust ABC to be a credible source even if you are a yellow dog Democrat.

Been a listener for over two years I believe. Would have been five stars up until the last few months, just seems to be getting far too political. Definitely pushing a narrative. I like news that tells news, no bias, let’s you form your opinion.

I keep hearing everything “bad” about the republicans and nothing about the democrats. Seems bias and manipulating to sway a voter.

The show is interesting and does help you start with the major stories of the day. I prefer CNN’s This Morning podcast bc I feel like it covers way more news. And it has a lot of guest “experts” and analysts who bring variety to the show. Of course that show is longer, currently about 45 mins or so. Start Here is better than NPRs First Up bc that only covers 3 stories and only very briefly. I would prefer if Start Here had more coverage of more stories, and also more voices than just the one host, either guest panels or co-hosts. Better than Morning Joe, which seems to weirdly have a lot of inside jokes that a new listener doesn’t understand. Better than Fox n Friends bc Start Here is way more objective/neutral, mostly. And Start Here is a straight news program, mostly without “fluff” stories like what sundresses are in style this summer, etc.

I listen to this podcast every weekday. It’s a great summary of the news. No sides, no agendas, just straight news. Great summary of the top events around the country and world. If you want an unbiased quick summary this is it. Probably one of the only podcasts listed under news that is actually just news, not political commentary.

I’ve been listening to the show since it started. Now I’m a father and my 4 year old daughter Lily and we have listened to Brad basically every day of her life. In the the morning she regularly says “Hi Mr. Brad” when we start listening on our way to school. Thank you Brad and the Start Here team for always brightening our day!

A great podcast and summary of key events over the past days. However, the commercials have expanded into 2+ minute sessions including before the show starts… really? Additionally, the VAST amount of “mood music” to help convey a story is outlandish. Listen to a five minute story with a constant drum in the back or a violin set to convey sorrow for 8-15 seconds after a story is awful. If we as an audience can’t determine that children dying is bad, we shouldn’t need the CONSTANT reminder… Assuming you can fast forward and remove the background music then highly recommended, if not then brace for the constant Zip Recruiter ads.

Love this podcast and Brad! Great reporting and the first thing I listen to on my drive in everyday! Keep it up! PS- love the guest hosts as well, the whole team deserves 5 stars!

I enjoy how I can get quick information on current events and Brad asks all the questions I had anyways. Also, the puns are so bad, they are amazing! 😝 Thank you for this podcast. I would know nothing about current events without it.

They did a great job fact checking the Haitian pet eating claim. I wish they would to the same for the democrats. Obviously bias.

I like the coverage but the host is not good and overly dramatic. He really ruins the show for me as he is very dramatic in the way he talks about the topics, the questions he asks and the slight bias that comes out as a result. He doesn’t come off as a professional broadcaster. He’d be great for a pop culture podcast but for news, he just doesn’t cut it. The show would be much better with a pro host.

Start Here and Brad has been a favorite morning listen for years! Not only is it well researched, informative, but the pun-ny jokes make me giggle and starts my day with a smile. My two favorite parts are the One Last Thing because it’s always interesting but almost every show, something connects to what I am teaching my 9th and 10th graders. Start Here always gives me an idea of how to connect my curriculum to real-world learning and current events.

been listening for a year daily the just mondays cuz I didnt like how it turned so bias as 2024 turned all about elections. not balanced as it was in the past. debate was the final straw. ridiculous and supremely disappointing

This is a very well produced and presented work of fiction. Unfortunately, they present with a lot of liberal spin, but they are very good at concealing it. No thanks, just report the news please.

I love getting my morning news from Brad. In general, I find it to be very fair and balanced. The only reason It doesn’t get 5 stars from me is that you have failed to cover Donald Trump’s mental decline. Having listened to several of his incoherent and meandering speeches, outrageous lies, and inability to speak of anything substantial, I have found myself horrified that major media outlets do not regularly report this, while other candidates left or right, are picked apart for everything they say. Why does he get a pass? For reference I am a registered Republican.

Long time listener. Brad, everyone else that contributes, and the content are all great. However, over the last 8 months or so, the latter half of the episodes seem to have clips dropped in the wrong spot, repeated (randomly dropped in somewhere), or even seems to be missing parts of the episode. Not a reason to skip the podcast, but I sometimes feel like I’m missing content as a result.

The bias is here is getting hard to swallow…. I’ve been listening to Start Here since late 2019, and I listen to it almost every day! I Love Brad and I’m bummed when he’s out and someone else fills in. This podcast has always been a left leaning like most media is, but it has still been a great source of news to keep me updated in a bite sized fashion. However, leading up tot he 2024 election, the bias against republicans is getting really bad and way more obvious. I wish Brad would just stick to the facts and stop showing us all that he loves Kamala Harris and hates Trump. Let the people decided. And stop being so obvious about it. 6 months ago I would have given 5 stars but this bias has dropped me down to two stars. Brad, those stars are for you. You are usually great. It’s just becoming unbearable the last few months.

I unfollowed this podcast after quickly realizing it favors one political party very blatantly.

I’m not one who will turn on the news at night unless it’s to look at upcoming weather, because there’s sooo much negativity. This 20min Podcast (Start Here) is just the right amount & keeps me in the know! Brad has been a part of my morning routine since 2020. It’s definitely one of my favorite morning listens!
