    Jacko is the Best
This show is unique and the host is excellent at getting fascinating guests and interviewing them. I have learned so much about the DPRK. Love the roundtable of reporters also.

    Jeongmin Kim is fantastic
The entire podcast is great, but Jeongmin Kim really stands out when she’s on. She is very well spoken and fantastic at explaining things and providing commentary. She would make a great lead host for the podcast.

Such good info, room for sound quality improvement
I love this show. I’m a lay person who is interested in North Korea and I listen to this show start to finish every week. So well done and a good mix of wonky stuff with super accessible info. But can we get Jacko a good mic for when he’s doing interviews from home? They’re not that spendy and the sound quality is so bad when he does interviews outside the studio.

In depth information about a woefully unknown country
I’ve always had an attraction for North Korea because of its very strangeness. This podcast deals with the strangeness, but goes deeper into giving a glimpse into what real life might be like. There’s an obvious attempt to provide the results of real research by both Korean and foreign experts.

Should be producing better analytical discussions
NK News is an information aggregator. Interesting topics. Could do better in creating a mini series that produces a report. This might assist in getting subscribers to pay for NK Pro…maybe 🤷🏽
  • HippieThrowdown
    Fascinating, Fresh, Detailed
I’ve always been passingly interested in North Korea, and this is the podcast that I’ve been looking for my entire life. The topics they discuss are detailed, nuanced, and very current. I can’t get enough of these.

    Western centric
More of the same western propaganda on the DPRK.

Great podcast with a wide range of topics
This is my favorite podcast! It’s a great listen. Jacco is a wonderful host, and the guests are always amazing. A good podcast for a seasoned DPRK watcher, and would also be great for someone who is simply curious.

    A must for Korea watchers
This is a must listen to podcast for anyone who is interested in the Korean Peninsula, the Korean problem set, and the relationships between the DPRK and other state and non-state actors.

Only continues to get better and better!
This podcast continues to exceed my expectations with every episode! From academic experts in the field to defectors from North Korea and practitioners at both the civil society and political levels, the wide range of guests on this show, including high level political officials, lends a candid conversation and behind the scenes stories of what is really going on when it comes to North Korea. Jacco is an excellent host that maintains his own knowledge base on North Korea, improving the podcast even more over a host that doesn't know much about the subject matter. Regardless of political affiliation or thoughts about North Korea, this podcast is an absolute must-listen!

    Amazing
I highly recommend this podcast, it is so informative and insightful into the veil of DPRK. The podcast is very professionally done and well made.

    Lacking
While this show does have many guest with impressive experience and credentials but I have never heard one N.K defector on this show. Consequently, to me this is a major flaw of this show. There are some questions that we only someone who has lived there as native citizen can answer.

Go to podcast on all things North Korea
What a joy it is to listen to the NK News podcast. The topics are interesting, the guests top-notch, and the host with a breath of knowledge that should be the envy of other podcasts. If you are new to the podcast a few that come to mind as muscle listens: Interviews with Andrew Lankov Episode with maker of “the mole” Interview with high level NK diplomat from London I really love this podcast!
  • Redcat111
    Very good podcast about NK
Very good podcast. Their guests choice is very wide, some of them from academia, some of them from diplomatic corp and various governments ( biased but it gives you and idea about official stance), some independent, and some former government employees. The experts from NK News are excelente Most of the experts are critical about regime but in the same time they are realists. Most of the them were truly unprepared for a shock policy that former Trump administration practiced. But I think so was the NK leadership. However, in the long run all their ideas about stability of the NK regime and its priorities , and its international relationships proved to be correct. Kim’s dynasty outlived another US administration without much budging.

    Interesting!
Love this podcast. Content is interesting and varied. Well researched.
  • TheGondolaMan
    Varied content and frequent publishing
I love the fact that the topics go way, way beyond the typical “what about their weapons?” discussions that dominate most NK news coverage. The people themselves get just as much air time, which is great.
  • sanga3
    Five Stars!
Excellent podcast - I am always eager to listen to every new episode as soon as I can. The content really is of the best quality, and I very much appreciate what the host brings to the table, too.

Must-listen Podcast for anyone working on the DPRK
Fantastic job by the NKN team - this Podcast covers the breadth of issues in a non-partisan manner, challenges assumptions, gets to the gist of the complex issues, and has some of the best guests - from Bill Perry to those who are sharing their (at times quirky) experiences for the first time. This is an important resource for policy makers - many of whom are avid listeners. Keep up the great work.

    Must-listen for DPRK-obsessives
    All the most interesting people.

    Volume up, pls
Perhaps turn the volume up in the studio? Here on the subway it’s tough to follow the conversation without straining to listen. Thanks. The latest Michael Breen episode is a good one.
  • JosephMEP
OP Host for such Niche Field
This is the best source for actual news (not sensationalism) on the DPRK and this is such an amazing podcast to complement that! A hilarious and provocative host in such a niche field is a rare find!
  • Wrong Notes
Helpful for studies on Northeast Asia
Appreciating that there’s always something to learn from these podcasts

This is a must listen podcast
For anyone looking for expert analysis and thought leadership on North Korea, this is a must listen. The guests are always interesting and bring years of scholarship and/or personal experience to each interview. The episode with Daniel Tudor about beer and business in North Korea was especially enlightening. Check this podcast out!

    Demystifying North Korea
This is a really fascinating podcast for a lot of reasons. But mainly because it cuts through the inaccurate media portrayal of DPRK as this other worldly hellscape populated by Orwellian drones, actually allowing the listener to glimpse the reality of the country. As someone who lives in South Korea, I follow NK News closely, even thought I don’t often align with them politically. Check it out!

    Not a nk expert
Great show that breaks everything NK down for the simple person!
  • jimmytraveller
    Exellent source for current info
I consider myself to be informed on NK due to reading many books. This is great for keeping me current and informing me about topic that I have thought little about as well as covering standard topics like the nuclear program and human rights
  • Patricio Worthalter
    Uncommonly great
I wish this quality of journalism was available in other industries. NK News is no doubt the most careful news outlet I ever read (in all fields). No article comes out unpolished, not a single time I found a typo.

    Fascinating Podcast on North Korea
This Podcast is Fantastic. It gives an insider’s view of life in North Korea, gives expert interpretations of news from North Korea, and explains the motivations and patterns of Kim and the regime. I love that it is a political podcast that mostly ignores US politics. Give it a listen. I bet you’ll subscribe.
  • Insight Pittsburgh
    Informed and Interesting
Great podcast! Love listening to the stories and perspective for NK. A must for those interested in the happenings of the DPRK.

A rare glimpse into the world of nk news
It can be hard for me to find a podcast engaging enough to listen to on long drives. I really didn’t expect a news podcast to be one of my favorites. I’m by no means an expert on North Korea or international politics so at first I was worried that this podcast might be behind my understanding. However, I find this podcast very accessible and quite entertaining. This is how I wish my history classes in university had been. As an American I sometimes feel like I can’t trust the news about North Korea that I see on TV and national news websites. I love the unbiased and honest approach NK News takes on informing the rest of the world about North Korea. The host is wonderful and the guests are always so interesting. I love hearing the various voices and perspectives of people who know so much about North Korea. With the national news being so focused on the DPRK lately, I would urge other Americans to listen to this podcast as a source of information on recent events.

Great analysis and commentary on North Korea from multiple perspectives. I thoroughly enjoy this podcast. I’ve recommended it on all my social media accounts

    One of my favorite podcasts!
I've long held a fascination with the DPRK, and a complicated but sincere sympathy for its people. I discovered NK News early this year while searching for better news sources than those pervasive (and redundant) "inside look" pieces, and though most of NKN's content is understandably gated behind a subscription service, I was excited to find that they had started recording a free podcast! The topics of each episode are disparate and well-selected, offering an extremely wide range of perspectives on North Korean political, economic, social, and cultural systems/phenomena. Our host Jacco is both professional in tone and impartial in his lines of inquiry, and when appropriate he injects a measure of respectful humour and friendly banter which benefits the show greatly. I look forward to this podcast every week, and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I appreciate Mr. Zwetsloot and his associates at NK News for their hard work and dedication!

    Brilliant podcast on north korea
In my search for more knowledge about my mother’s beginnings, i found this podcast. What a find! I appreciate Mr. Scarlatoiu’s incredible knowledge about north korea. His comparisons to his romanian experience helps me understand why north korean regime is so different than any other. Mother escaped north korea back in 1945. I have been trying to understand our other half of the country for the longest time. It is truly heart wrenching to know that people on one side of the country can live in such torment. Thank you for doing this. I understand that the youth are making some information breakthroughs through their archaic technology. Perhaps someday we can be one democratic korea.

    Great
Great interview by Jacco on expat life in Pyeongyang. Keep it coming, and let us know the vibe about recent summitry.
  • Mick WII
    Western propaganda
I was listening to the episode ‘does the Korean War matter today’ and felt like it was reasonable and well balanced. I thought references to archival research in Russia and China gave it that balance until the host asked if the war games by the US/South Korea were preparations for war. Given they are military drills any reasonable person would say ‘yes’, but the guest says ‘no, it’s just about practicing working together. Perhaps we could believe the guest but only a few minutes later the guest talks about US desire for regime change. If the US is interested in regime change then their war games are not just playing soldier.

Excellent Resource for Students of the Region
I found the NK News podcast a couple months ago and have listened to more than half a dozen current and past episodes so far. The guest perspectives are excellent and offer a nuanced view of the continuing evolution of affairs between North Korea and the US. It’s also a relaxed, low key show, with a sense of humor. Highly recommended.
