I love history so much. All I wanted was to hear the stories about the content they are representing in their titles. I don’t care about what their instagram feeds would look like. I don’t care about a family in NY and their airstream. Come on.

I am a huge history nerd and this podcast was a life saver when I was working king desk hours and got tired of music (thankfully I was allowed to put my headphones in since I wasn’t interacting with the public). This podcast was something new and exciting for me and they way they tell the stories was so entertaining! I love their banter. I’m desperately trying to get caught up on all their episodes since I had the misfortune of finding this so late, but I’m enjoying every second of it!

They do a lot of yammering without actually saying anything about ancient history. The fact that they think Project 2025 is a thing, thing being on a literal imbecile to pleasure themselves with over this, was hilarious. They’re more conspiratorial than Alex Jones.

I like hearing unique insights, stories, and voices to learn about history. History shows choice in response to fundamental human loves and fears. I’m so proud of them for their current discussion of the 2025 manifesto. The hosts provide excellent and open research, with courage, honesty, and love. - Brett

This podcast gives a wonderful detailed and often times humorous way of looking at historical events. Each episode is well written, well researched and wonderful delivered. Both of the host make you wish you where sitting with them, having a glass of wine and discussing historical events together. Highly recommend it to all history loving peeps!!

Ancient History Fangirl is one of my Top 3 favorite podcasts! I’ve been listening to this podcast for three or so years and I look forward to every new episode. I’ve learned so much about the ancient world through these two amazing podcasters. I love the human lens they bring to the subject matter and the attention to detail. They make me laugh out loud with their sense of humor, especially since my humor is that of a seventh grader’s ;) I can only hope this podcast never ends.

Who would have thought that there were refugees from Pompeii? This podcast is refreshingly informative. Love their take and the banter as well. Also, if you find a section unsuited to your tastes, fast forward. 😂

Interesting subject matter but terrible presentation. I don’t need to hear ten times that you are a Manhattan copywriter or that you don’t have a Hugo nomination whatever that is. The hosts devolve into crude comments befitting of a seventh grader. Cut out the awkward attempted and just cover the subject matter…….please

A friend recommended this podcast to me and even though I already have 30-40 podcasts in rotation, I picked this one up. Well I’m now behind in all my other podcasts because I just can’t stop listening to this one! Genn and Jenny tell these historical events and describe the people and places and circumstances in a wonderful narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat. They really nail good storytelling but also their commentary is exactly how I’d talk about this stuff with my friends. If my friends were as into this stuff as well haha. I also like how they take time to break down some of the sources and describe what that really means to a modern war so we can appreciate the settings and circumstances even more. My only criticism has nothing to do with this podcast and everything to do with my anger that these podcast algorithms did not push this one as a recommendation to me! It’s 100% the perfect podcast for me. Get your $#*+ together Apple, Overcast, Spotify, etc! 😊❤️

Initially found the first season quite interesting, with a wide array of subjects. As the show went on however, the commentary and humor kept clashing with the history and led to my removal of the podcast from my rotation. For those who enjoy history podcasts with critical humor, this may be alright for you. It just was too distracting for me.

they’re awesome i would listen to the talk about any history for hours. their presentation, banter, and analysis is so satisfying. i didn’t realize how good this podcast was until i tried listening to some other history podcasts. as the old adage goes you don’t know what you have til it’s gone..

Genn and Jenny bring their love of history and unabashed nerdy-ness to create a show that is equal parts entertaining and informative. I have listened to every episode and often find myself going back in the archives to replay some of my favorites. Listening to the podcast is like listening to a friend excitedly tell you something their passionate about in a way that makes you passionate about the same thing. I can’t wait to hear what else Genn and Jenny have planned!

I love the length of the episodes and the mix of fun and fact. You can tell from listening how much research and love go into this podcast. I have learned so much and am really excited for the newest season! 100% recommend!

I started listening to Genn and Jenny’s drunk myths with Liv from Myths, Baby and started listening to AHFG not long after. That was like 3 months ago - I’ve listened to the almost entire backlog of regular and patreon episodes. Genn and Jenny are hysterical. I love the banter back and forth, the way they lay out the episodes that makes so much sense to me, and I love the way they talk the listeners through their research processes and how they decided what stories they wanted to tell. The cold opens? AMAZING. I’ve cried through some, gotten chills through some, and definitely had to put headphones on for the fun ones. You both do an incredible job and I cannot wait to see where the pod goes from here!! Overzealous bimbos without any degree or education on their topics that they didn’t Google off an actual professional who already has a podcast that most likely doesn’t include blasphemy. I bet your both ugly and salty with God about it :) Google Image anyone?

These two women make my day. I have 2 degrees focused primarily in the classics and I just finished their arc about Rome…the humor and in depth coverage of history makes my little nerdy classics heart flutter.

I love the material covered in this show not to mention hosts are so charming!!!

Has been consistently been on my top 10 list of goto podcasts since I first heard them. The breadth and depth that they go into their subjects is wonderful, and they always make it fun. Highly recommended.

Neither presenter is a historian, so don’t expect learned presentation of the facts. Still, it is enjoyable for people with just a general interest in the subject matter. Unfortunately, too much effort is devoted to finding misogyny in the sources where often none exists.

Points for choosing interesting topics. No points for delivery, and many points off for modern politics and for stupid giggling and squeaking etc. I’m female and I can’t stand it.

Wildly interesting and absolutely hilarious, i am often laughing to myself at my desk or around the house and dread someone asking me why… i cannot possibly tell them that it’s because of a fictional conversation with ghost julius caesar 😂

I found this podcast a few years back while searching for something to fill the Drunk History sized void in my heart and I immediately fell in love with it. Coincidentally, I got pregnant with our daughter while in the midst of binging every episode. Just a few weeks ago, I was letting her play with my phone and she turned on the Frau Holle episode, which is one of my favorites from this season. It looks like I have a history-loving, feminist in the making due, in part, to this amazing podcast!

This cast is great because it’s hosts are excellent storytellers and they pick fun topics to tell stories about. Their POV is lighthearted and not at all reverential. Some of the topics are wacky and eccentric, but that just adds to the fun. This ain’t Thucydides… it’s more Herodotus meets Suetonius with a Click and Clack patina on top. Edited to add: ouch ouch ouch! My ears hurt and my head aches because you did a whole episode on GobekLI Tepe and didn’t pronounce it right once. It was worse than listening to W talk about NooKyuLar weapons.

This podcast feels like listening to your friends give a drunk info dump on their latest hyperfixation and I enjoy it every week. The episodes are funny and well researched while not feeling like you’re stuck in a stuffy lecture hall. If Mark Antony could count, he’d give this a 10/10 starts.

As an ancient history nerd I can’t get enough of these two! Jen & Jenny delve into ancient and modern sources so you don’t have to! Just hit the play button and be entertained with their take on events long gone by. You will find yourself laughing as these two decide pastasaurus is much easier to say than that not so memorable roman name, and their many other antics. I can be having a bad day but these two are sure to put a smile on my face while teaching me something I didn’t know. They’ll fast become your favorite podcast! 😁

I use many of the episodes as homework for my students in the queer art history course that I teach. They appreciate that there’s a history of non-binary identity stretching into the deep past behind their own lives.

If I start a story arc, I find myself thinking about it a lot, and the stories stick in my brain. Like if I’m listening while I walk past a certain place and then I walk by it again a few days later, I’ll think of the story again. I love history but just don’t care about battles, so getting to hear about people’s lives like this podcast does is just what I’m looking for.

From Julius Cesar to Alaric of the Visigoths, the outrageous personalities of these historical figures are brought to life. This podcast is filled with facts, feminism, wizards, little boots, and Prosecco-fueled bacchanals. You will be enraptured within the first five minutes of any episode. Start with Locusta the poisoner ✨

If you enjoy the company of women and have any interest in history this podcast is something you should listen to if you have the time. Maybe you should be a little progressive if you don’t want to be turned off by them, but I think think these are two awesome women.

This podcast has been a real lifeline. Blending feminism and the classics and mythology and Ancient history… It’s the special order I didn’t know was possible. You both are truly a gift.

I found this through its sister podcast, lets talk about myths baby, and I've been binging ever since. I'm currently in the middle of season three, and I can't wait for the recent gender rebels stuff. I love the gender inclusive language and bias transparency. Big thumbs up from a gender fluid lesbian 🧡🤍💜

I found this podcast at the beginning of the pandemic and have been listening happily ever since. Every episode starts off with a cold open which really sets the scene for the topic of that particular episode. There are so many little jokes so it sounds like I’m having a conversation with my friends. Overall these ladies are amazing and I 10/10 recommend.(P.S.start with Locusta the poisoner first and thank me later)

I started binge-listening to Ancient History Fangirl a couple weeks ago after I saw a recommendation on the History Chicks Facebook page. I love listening to back catalogues, so it’s been fun to play old episodes while working. The banter between Gen and Jenny (I can never remember which one starts with G and which starts with J) is hilarious. Thanks for keeping me entertained!
