Tough to Treat

106

Welcome to Tough to Treat: A Physiotherapists’ Guide to Managing Those Complex Patients, with your hosts Erica Meloe and Susan Clinton, who discuss how they successfully treated patients that others could not. Via case history discussion, they share their physical therapy expertise from treating long standing pelvic pain to persistent neck pain. They present a holistic and integrative view on assessing and treating chronic pain. Unique movement strategies and specific patient exercise prescription are also presented so you can be ahead of the curve when it comes to treating these types of patients. Oftentimes, the source of the problem is not where you think it is!! For example, chronic low back pain emanating from the neck. Or hip pain coming from the foot. It pays to look up and down the kinetic chain!Podcast music: "Fearless First" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

    Incredibly helpful for complex cases
I recently found this podcast through the Michelle Lyons podcast and have found myself binging these episodes for the past week. I am a pelvic PT and these conversations are brief and jam packed with super useful and clinically relevant information. It’s helping me ask new questions and is highlighting a lot of the gaps in my own knowledge and is helping direct me towards what I need to be learning. Thank you both for your work and sharing your knowledge with us! It has absolutely made a difference in my practice already in a short period of time and will continue to. Thank you for making us all better!
  • Amazing cases!
Love these two and their case discussions!
I am a pelvic PT with ortho roots and I just started my own pelvic practice. Since I found this podcast not all that long ago, I have been binging all the episodes in the car and while I walk my dogs. I feel like this has really brought on all kinds of new thinking for me as well as guiding me towards the next type of con ed I take. I have new intake and subjective questions I never used before as well as now frequently taking my patients to “the wall” (lol) for weight shifting and squatting assessments. I can’t be more impressed or grateful for this podcast!! And to Susan- I recently had a flare-up of “plantar fasciitis” that was switching sides and was definitely neural tension! So I backed off of my over stretching yoga sessions and it has cleared up!

The Best Podcast To Start Thinking Out Of The Box
This is the best podcast to make time for! Erica and Susan do a wonderful job of painting a clinical picture and walking you through some ways to rethink altered movement patterns and dysfunction. It is great to push new clinicians to think beyond a text book and great for veteran clinicians to remember to constantly challenge themselves to challenge their point of view. Thank you Susan

    Great podcast
Thank you both for doing a great job with our profession! I have been out of school for 3.5 years and it is nice to kind of have “virtual mentors” when listening to the podcast. Keep up the great work!

    Love love love!
It’s one of the best podcast with tons of clinical pearls I’ve ever listened to. Erica and Susan are already experts in physical therapy, so each episode is just loaded with information and definitely makes your brain work as you listen to it. The assessment and treatment are just magical when I use them in the clinic. They definitely changed some ways when I work with my patients. I just love the way Erica and Susan analyze movement, look a person as a whole person, and explain how each system in the body interconnected with each other. Great podcast!

    Fantastic Resource for PT’s
Susan and Erica have done a fantastic job discussing several complicated cases. These podcasts go into case reports and discuss everything from the examination/assessment/evaluation to the treatment of individuals suffering from a myriad of dysfunction’s. Pelvic floor PT is a prominent and recurring theme, which makes it an interesting podcast for pelvic PT ‘s. Thank you guys for making this podcast so interesting and fun to listen to.

Inspiring and out of the box
I began listening to this podcast and shortly after that signed up for the mentorship program. Between hearing these patient cases and how Susan and Erica approach treatment and participating in the mentorship program, I’ve learned to listen more closely to my patients. I’ve learned to ask better questions. Looking outside of the cookie cutter box to find the root cause of the patient’s problem and how it connects to the person as a whole are key themes in this podcast. Erica and Susan are some of the smartest PT’s I have ever met (virtually!). I am so glad to have found this podcast and their mentorship!

    An invaluable way to learn
I have been listening to tough to treat for the past few years and it is my go-to podcast as a physical therapist for learning how to listen to my patients, perform more effective and thoughtful subjective evaluations and come up with more meaningful treatment approaches for patients regardless of the diagnosis. Susan and Erica are experts in clinical reasoning from a systems approach and treating the whole human in front of them with both compassion and wisdom. Thank you for sharing these patient cases week after week and helping physios to be better practitioners all around!

I have been listening on my commute for at least a year.
