    A la proxima!
I’ve been listening for a while, and on my last trip to Italy, 3x people thought I was Italian. In Bologna, I got a free Tigelle because the lady thought I was Italian and asked me one too many questions. When I said I’m just learning, she said my accent was great. In Torino a shop worker responded to my question, then asked a follow up question- I was ready with the answer… then he also asked another question… no free stuff there. In Modena, at a sandwich shop - just the little bit I knew, made the trip that much more enjoyable. Hoping next time I go, I can spend a bit more time. Love the pod. A la Proxima.

Welcome back! I missed you two!
I listened to all the episodes from their previous podcast. After a productive break on their part, I’m glad they are back and I’m eager to listen again! Just wish the new episodes were more frequent. Katie and Matteo are great. I hope to take their classes one day and join their online school.

Really good! This podcast is a keeper!
There are a lot of average or subpar podcasts out there for learning Italian, but this NOT one of them! Wish I'd found this sooner - it's short but super useful, well done, and very relevant! Highly recommend for anyone learning Italian, wanting to travel, or improving your vocabulary and pronunciation. 5 stars!!!

Great podcast to learn conversational Italian
This is an excellent source of learning conversational Italian. Like many other people trying to learn a new language, I use a language app to get basics of vocabulary and conjugation, but this podcast really improves my ability to speak and understand the language, particularly the Italian idioms and language customs. I also like Katie and Matteo a lot, they are enthusiastic and easy to understand.

Great info! Just wish they paused!
This is such a great podcast for learning about life and culture in Italy. The language piece is good but it goes so fast- I wish they had a short pause for practice.

My favorite Intro to Italian podcast
I’ve used to several beginner’s level podcasts - and Joy of Languages is by far my favorite. I love the format. Short, practical, and enjoyable to listen to. It’s based around a conversation, it teaches vocabulary and some grammar, and gives one opportunities to practice speaking and listening. I’ve listened to some episodes several times. If your headed to Italian soon, you’ll be glad you listened to this podcast.

    Great companions
This podcast keeps me company on my drive to work and I am grateful for how accessible it is. I’ve used many of the phrases with our Italian exchange student and feel like what I’m learning makes me sound much more natural than if I were learning from a book. Thank you Katie and Matteo!

    An international businessman
One of the best Italian learning podcast that I have listened to. The podcast offers a great mix of perfect italian practical phrases in various life scenarios and accurate English interpretation. One thing that impressed me is the detail oriented approach to point out those small differences between Italian and English usages like prepositions. Also the speed of speaking is easy for beginners to catch up! Thank you team!

    Excellent for learning basic Italian
Fabulous podcast in digestible amounts. I’m generally a visual learner so I love that the vocab is in the show notes. Also makes it easy to go back and review.

    Thank you
I recently bought a house in Salento and am an American who lives there 6 months out of the year. I desperately want to learn Italian. Your short Italian podcast episodes are fantastic!! I’m learning so much and was so relieved to have them return in Joy of Language. Especially because as a beginner, and an older learner (I’m 70🤣), the Easy Italian videos are too advanced and difficult for me. They talk way too fast and the English sub caption print is too small and flies by too fast to read. It’s worth being a member just to get your wonderful podcast! Grazie and congratulations on this wonderful service you are providing.

    I can’t believe this exists!
Last year I used Duolingo learning for about 30 minutes per day, for three months prior to my viaggio. When in Italia, basically none of the dumb phrases from Duolingo applied to my interactions. Since I’m going back to the Dolomites soon, I started my quest for a good podcast with real street/travel phrases, and found this absolutely perfetta one! The mix of conversation and the dissection of segments of the conversation is glorious and I love how bite-size each episode is. Grazie, stupafecente!👏🇮🇹
  • Weakgreeker
    Enjoyable and Precise
When I have needed to learn a new language, due to moving, it has always been a struggle. Either there is too much book, feeling academia– – which doesn’t feel authentic, or it is non-directed conversational. In these lessons, I am able to hear conversation, words, and i especially enjoy the annunciation lessons. Thank you for this great tool as an introduction to Italian.
  • Petar 003
    Excellent Bite-size lessons!
Perfect short nuggets to enhance your Italian! Well suited for beginners! Thank you!!
  • BenfromVirginia
    Great listening!
This is my favorite Italian learning tool I’ve found for the car, because it doesn’t require any visuals for learning, because they explain each piece in English. Of courage the show notes are helpful for my second listen to be able to read words and phrases. Just fyi, do you guys know that on Apple episodes 27 and 28 are same audio, diff titles? Thanks for the good content you’ve given us in digestible portions!

    Mi piace molto!
Ho studiato un po’ d’italiano all’universitá, ma non ricordo molto. A settembre vado a Milano con mia sorella, e voglio parlare d’italiano. Grazie Katie e Matteo!

    Very impressed
As a language learner and a language teacher myself, I have been thoroughly impressed with this podcast! The way Katie and Matteo approach language learning with specificity, realistic examples, and cultural + linguistic context makes the lessons not only enjoyable but very effective and memorable. I’ve devoured their podcast and am sharing it with everyone I know with an Italian vacation on the horizon. Bravi!

  • LBK8
    Most helpful pod for travelers!
I had a only a week’s notice before a trip to Italy, and hate not being able to speak the local language—at least the basics. This helped me tremendously, far more than Duolingo or any other podcast I found. Katie and Matteo teach you the same way that the US Foreign Service and Peace Corps teach languages: situationally. Katie is able to point out what is important to an English speaker, and Matteo provides the native speaker’s proper pronunciation. I’m about to go to Italy again and am sharing this podcast with my traveling companions. Five stars!
  • Lisahacle
Great without a lot of filler
This has been so helpful to me. The lessons are short and to the point with great cultural tips and little filler (I.e., music and small talk).
  • LongboarderNJ
    Love it!
I can listen to these two talk all day.

    Best Italian Podcast!
Katie and Matteo are creative, down to earth, and have an excellent teaching format. Plus they always sprinkle in a little silliness to help you smile and remember the lesson.

    Fun way to learn Italian
I love this podcast. The hosts are so charming and such great teachers.
  • vastvedt
    Uniquely useful
The episode about Italian accent was really helpful because while I have gotten pretty good at reading Italian, I’m really not good at speaking it. The emphasis on pronunciation really helps to give me confidence in speaking
  • rename49
    The Best
Katie and Matteo produce the most useful and practical Italian language podcast. The topics and structure make for memorable, easy learning of Italian language and culture. They put in a lot of thought and energy to make a top notch, enjoyable podcast. Bravissimo!
