These interviews are such amazing tools for actors to learn more about the industry as it is today from people who have been in it for many years and who know what they’re talking about because they are at the very center of it. A friend in the industry shared this podcast with me last week and I’ve greatly enjoyed the first three episodes so far. Risa and Steve know the biz, and offer insights that are grounded in what as actors we can actually control. I’ve worked in the industry for 8 years (mostly in production) and I’ve overheard so much poor advice. This is not that. Acting is a tricky profession and it’s easy to loose sight of one’s goals, Risa and Steve seem determined to help remind us all why we are on this pathway in the first place. I would like to thank you guys for launching this podcast and from my point of view, telling the truth about what this industry is like and how difficult, yet promising it is to be an actor. Ive been listening to this podcast everyday single day for about a month and Im trying to go in order. So far, my favorite episode is the one with Josiah Akinyele and how is he as Risa described, “the hardest working agent”. I also love how steve brings in some real world examples outside of acting such as meditation and the 2nd arrow which spoke about dealing with pain. I listen to A LOT of podcasts. I’ve never rated one before but this has quickly become my favorite. I really look forward to new episodes. In an industry that can often feel far removed from what led most of us to it — i.e., art, heart, soul, humanity, camaraderie, fun! — Steve and Risa provide shelter from the storm. This show helps me get back in touch with what’s important— the work! the practice! the art! — when the day-to-day grind can easily help me forget! Thank you Risa and Steve!! This is a truly great podcast, whenever I need an acting pick me up, or to remember why I'm still in this crazy industry, I just fire up an episode. I’m inspired every time. It takes me back to those first acting classes in LA when I was 21 — bright, hopeful, completely excited to learn, and with my whole life in front of me — it’s so easy to forget that, and this podcast always brings me back to what it is all about — discovery, curiosity, artistic joy in doing the work, and having experience.

These podcasts are GOLD, especially the one with Mary Vernieu. More than just great information, huge humanity here that reminds us actors why we do what we do and that it all comes down to connecting with one another and telling a story. Casting directors are people just like us and we are all in it together.

I’m pretty new to the acting world and I’m so glad I found Risa and Steve! I actually listened to most of the episodes while I was on a solo road trip (8 hours each way). I cannot believe I actually did not put on music the whole time, i was so absorbed, I couldn’t stop listening to this podcast. I can’t even begin to explain how much I’ve learned so far from listening. The guests they have always give some incredibly eye opening perspectives as well that I never realized. I feel truly inspired, and can’t wait to listen to season 2 which starts today. Thank you so much Risa and Steve, for the knowledge and encouragement.

Risa and Steve talk a good game, but they're two wealthy, cis white people who either don't recognize their privilege or, more likely, they do and don't care. The hypocrisy is so blasé, it makes my head spin. CDs have a lot of power - they're the gatekeepers. BGB prefers to pass the blame to studios and actors for a lack of diversity and representation in casting. Telling an actor "you're the reason you don't book" when it's because a casting director refused to see past skin color or gender identity is beyond ignorant.

This podcast is a MUST for actors and creatives. It is incredible and insightful. Thank you Risa, Steve and all BGB!

I just finished the first podcast and wow, what great information. I have been acting in New York and L.A. for 30 years, and I can still learn so much from Risa and Braun. It was more difficult for me to get work in L.A., so I am hoping by listening to them, I will get some key pointers.

I’m absolutely loving my experience listening to you guys. I’ve been an actor in L.A. and Idaho, have been coaching high school students for 6 years, and am now beginning to dabble in my own business as a private Acting Coach. The wisdom you two share is not only interesting, but also so incredibly helpful. I just finished listening to the very first podcast How to Make it in Hollywood, it was very insightful. As I am beginning my acting career, I am learning what to do first in my career, from taking acting classes to doing the work from home, such as script analysis, and so much more. I’m an industry that is ever-changing, and at a faster rate than before we are able to find a constant through the act of bravely committing to doing the work. Risa and Steve have created a place to meet industry players and gain insight into the journey of the entertainment business, but their message always centers on doing the work and growing as a human being. They ask the actor to command what they can control, and go out into this industry and give it what it deserves: humanity. This is a must for actors.

Just listened to my first podcast over pilot season. Wow! The fervor and vigor spoken with about how to “get thru” pilot season was inspiring and saving. The grace, dignity and power I felt as an actor listening is incredible. I recommend this podcast to any actor on any level!!
