    Horrible advice!
I didn’t make it past 3 episodes! The answer to binge eating is to just stop binge eating?? Wow! I wonder why I didn’t think of that all those times when I’m shaming myself after a binge! I should have just told myself to stop! Duh! Are these women for real? If it was that easy, don’t you think people would just stop? If that concept wasn’t ridiculous enough, the fact that she says BED isn’t caused by any other issue besides your brain telling you to binge! That might be true for her but the majority of us I bet have gone through some trauma and we have developed a coping mechanism by eating! Cause and effect!! That’s actual science….not this googled info and self superior claim to just waking up one day and stopping because you told yourself to! I came to this podcast in hopes of finding help, but instead I’m leaving feeling worse and the condescending attitude made me feel dumb and like something was wrong with me! Thanks for that!

    Humbling, inspiring and energizing! 🙌
Regardless of where you are in your journey towards rewiring your eating habits - this is a must listen! From honest, self-reflective notes that highlight thoughts that often trip us up in the background - to the everyday obstacles that challenge us to build a positive relationship with food, Kathryn’s conversations are critical threads that pull you forward along the way. Highly recommend listening and subscribing!

Really wanted to like this podcast
I really wanted to like this podcast but it’s hard to accept what the hosts are saying knowing there isn’t any scientific background. It also gives the vibe of “if you want to recover bad enough you’ll just stop doing it” which is completely not true. I also wish it included a host that’s struggled with BED long term and didn’t “just wake up one day and stopped having binge eating disorder”.

Getting tools to get to the root cause💖
In episode 110 + 109, the exploration/explanation of how the brain responds to behaviors/beliefs captures the essence of many of our fractured thoughts. Thank you, Kathryn, for making it easier to understand, so we don’t have to punish ourselves!💖

    It’s taken me awhile
UPDATE: This update is five months later—I am 3 months binge free and I am now experiencing success with dismissing urges to binge, for the first time in 50 years. It is freeing! I first heard of this podcast six months ago, from Heather Robertson on the Half Size Me podcast and listened to an episode or two but couldn’t connect with it right away. However recently, after being advised to read the Brain Over Binge Recovery Guide by someone else, things started making sense to me and I really have been making strides in recovering from binge eating. I highly recommend this podcast and plan on continuing listening.

    Excellent Podcast
After each listen, Im left wanting more. Very informative, straight to the point and easy to listen to. I really enjoyed this podcast. Highly recommend for people who may not binge eat but want a healthier relationship with food. Thank you!

    Mixed feelings
I enjoy this podcast but the host talks like a robot and it seems very ingenuine sometimes. Her guests are great and talk normal and don’t sound like they’re trying to be perfect or sound like a robot

    This makes sense to me!
I can finally stop looking for a reason for my behavior that I’ve never really felt existed.

    Resist the urge to binge
Oh man! You mean the way I can get over my binge eating disorder is simply to resist the urge to binge? WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT?! If it was that easy and simple, you would think that nobody would have a binge eating problem.
  • Bigfamily!!
    I finally get it!!
Thank you Katherine for finally making it click for me! I’ve known I had a binge problem for about 6-9 months and I’ve been struggling to conquer it through food rules. What I did not realize was that my binging was self inflicted by DIETING. your emphasis on the two steps of resisting urges to binge AND eating adequately has finally broken the stronghold. I was trying to end binging while also restricting and dieting and your point blank message that this is impossible finally made me trust enough to start eating regular meals and snacks which will help me resist because I’m never starving. Your gentle anti rule approach is also way more suited to my personality as I have a really hard time following even one simple rule. Then I’d beat myself up for failing which only led to a binge. I’m no longer so hard on myself and I’m not taking eating so stinking seriously. I feel happier , more at peace with food and best of all I’m not so hungry all the time. And as a side note I haven’t gained any weight so far as I assumed I would which is shocking to me. Thank you so much for all you do Xoxo S

    Component 5 comes naturally
I can’t believe it. Its only been 3 days, but it’s the first time I let myself eat without worrying about carbs, calories, losing weight, etc. I ate because I was hungry. I was so excited and then I listened to “component 5”. I listen in the morning with my coffee. So far so good!!!

    Promoting their monthly subscription
Listen to three episodes. They talked about where they were and how their feelings have changed since then and their progress. But there has been no real help that I’ve heard. They want you to buy their monthly subscription.

    Fernanda is not approachable
I love this podcast and Kathryn but Fernanda is so unbearable She speaks in a way that is super hypothetical and almost patronizing of others struggling with our disorder I feel she is super preachy and not practical or helpful for most people

    Truly helpful and important podcast
Kathryn is very gifted and generous. The podcast is easy to listen to because she’s organized, articulate and has a naturally good speaking voice. The healthy, clear minded approaches discussed with her guests are an extension of her book with expanded views: smart, easy listens and so so helpful.

    Confused
Are the responses and follow up questions to guests added in post or are these actual conversational interviews?

    Brain Over Binge Book
Kathryn’s book is incredible. It helped me realize that I am not my eating disorder, I can overcome it and I’m not the only one suffering from an eating disorder. Her podcast and book contain insightful and applicable information. I feel incredibly blessed to have found it and share the information whenever I can with others that need help. Thank you Kathryn.

Caution: Some good advice, but ignoring therapy is dangerous
There is some good, practical advice in here, but be aware that neither Hansen nor Rosenblum have any background in psychology. This can be especially dangerous in the way that it dismisses therapy as “useless”. Sure, you can use some of these ideas before you completely “fix” yourself, but most therapy programs for eating disorders have ways of immediately managing your behavior as you get to the root cause. So, if you know enough to weed out the nuggets of good information from the advice to ignore therapy, this can be a helpful add on. But also make sure you seek real, professional help.

Listened to few episodes and not sure
Tried to listen few episodes and they were so shallow - all based on the presenter and guest’s experiences... i was waiting for the science behind topics, particularly intermittent fasting and got nothing. Maybe the guest was not great, but I don’t think this is reliable at all, unfortunately

    This Saved Me
I was an unaware anorexic (I lost 30 lbs eating 600 calories a day) until the day I finally broke. I was never satiated, even when I let myself eat- even when I let myself REALLY EAT lol. I woke up and went to sleep fantasizing over food. I spent my free-time googling and drawing- and eventually eating- food. My god, I DREAMED ABOUT FOOD MORE THAN ONCE. I DREAMED OF BUFFETS. So I snapped. I became an unaware, confused binge-eater. (I gained 25 lbs back over two months.) I was lost, disgusted with myself and perplexed over what was wrong with me until I found Brain Over Binge. Brain Over Binge is comprehensive, intelligent, and motivational, and I will recommend it until I die. Its host has been through the same thing as all of us- and so have the guests that appear on the show. This podcast revolves around understanding oneself and our inner drive to binge- all the varieties that there are. Brain Over Binge Covers all the bases and more, before, during, and after your binge urges. Truly phenomenal. I am truly thankful. (And finally, truly healthy.)

    Worked for me
I have suffered with an eating disorder for decades and have tried many different approaches -- therapy, OA, meditation, acupuncture, and the list goes on. I'm sure all of this past worked helped, but this podcast frames the issue and the approach in such a simple and clear way that it just clicked for me. I have never felt so in control over my urges to binge. I am very grateful.
  • Procrastinator already taken?!
You’ve come to the right place.
I have struggled with binge eating and emotional overeating for the last 12+ years. I have seen therapists, read countless books, attended over eaters anonymous meetings... nothing has restored my control over my eating like this podcast and Kathryn’s approach has. I listened to the first 11 episodes back to back. It’s been two weeks and I haven’t binged once. Better yet, I’m not even thinking about food anymore. I used to be consumed with thoughts of food constantly. This approach shifted my mindset in the exact way I needed to completely relieve me of this constant headache. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

    Honest.
For anyone looking to recover: I am a 21 year old male who has struggled with body dysmorphia, bulimia, binge eating, as well as habitual over eating for upwards of 7 years. All of which I believe are a result of restrictive eating, “dieting”, and rigid workout regiments with no clear instructions or boundaries of genuine self improvement. If you are looking to give a new approach a try I would HIGHLY recommend studying these podcasts as you would any other educational course. In my experience, taking notes in conjunction with multiple replays of each episode was a huge factor in instilling the value of what can be taken from the lessons— as well as reaffirming just how false the urge to binge is (generally and in the context of experience an urge or binge episode). There is a very high ratio of quality content to self promotion in this series.

    🌟Saving Grace🌟
Karen and Cookie...I have been stumbling over roadblocks for over a year trying to help my teenage daughter find a way to the end of her B.E.D. It has been an incredibly difficult, tumultuous journey that never seems to come even close to ending. I thought I knew everything there was to know about this dis-ease after countless hours of research and attempts to find the right kind of “therapist”-but I now know how wrong I’ve been and how much of a tight grip the world of therapy has on eating disorders. I feel as if my efforts to educate myself have been lost efforts because nothing seems to help no matter what the cost, both financially and emotionally. That is, until I discovered your podcast!! I have no words for the level of gratitude I have for your precise and clear way and educating and directing people towards recovery. I’m only just starting to listen to your episodes and already feel a sense of relief and hope that I have not experienced yet on this journey. My daughter has always claimed that it is something wrong with her brain and that is why it’s happening, because she says she really truly does not feel like she has control over her choices when it comes to binging... like something inside her brain is controlling her. Finding something that explains what’s happening in the brain in relationship to this disorder is absolutely the perfect tool for her recovery! Funny thing, I was about to enroll my daughter into an eating disorder clinic when I found your Podcast and now I am second-guessing that choice, as I am sure they will just try to find and over analyze what it is about her past that she’s trying to “cope with” through BED. I wish I had discovered you sooner as I know you just began a course. (I’m going to check out your website to see when the next course begins). There are no words that could possibly level up to the amount of gratitude I have for your wisdom and your willingness to share it. I am beyond grateful, as is my daughter. It’s as if we have been covered in a cloak of darkness and despair and your words and wisdom have lifted it off of us and we can see the light🌟 Thank you so very much 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

After a binge today I need to relisten
By listening to this show over the past couple months my binge episodes have gone WAY WAY down, but I still have so much work to do as tonight I went insane on some donuts. I need to get back to the basics and realize the faulty wiring of my brain leading me down the wrong isles at the grocery department and how to break the vicious cycle. But I believe it is possible with tips from this show

    Too much self promotion
While the information they were presenting was good, literally half of each podcast is about them self-promoting their books. Additionally, when they actually *are* talking about the content, they repeat themselves to where maybe 2 to 3 minutes of each podcast actually contains helpful information.

    Such a lifesaver
This podcast is changing my life. Amazing and simple tips from the very first episode. So much amazing content. And the tone of voice of the host and her guests is consistently the voice that I’ve needed to talk to myself in. Uncomplicated Wisdom and a caring voice with consistent helpful pointers and focuses - it has given me the strength to let go of binging and dismiss the binge urge thoughts in a way that is loving rather than judgmental or overcomplicated. I am so grateful for this podcast.

    Podcasting
They beat around the bush and talked more about podcasting then binge eating. Not what I thought it would be according to the title. Im not interested in their personal lives. I wanted to learn tips about stopping binge eating!

    Disappointed
Although I truly appreciate and see the benefits of the information given by this podcast as well as the literature associated to it, i cannot look past the constant belittling of conventional therapy. As a mental health profesional, I do not agree with the statement made towards my line of work. For example, the authors claim that conventional therapy focuses of a persons weakness of faults. I find this to be far from the truth. I, as well as all other therapist I know, take on a strength centered approach and always look to how a persons positive attributes can help and lead to personal growth. Another point made here is that all therapy looks to decipher the underlying traumas or causes that lead to a specific behavior (in this case binge eating). This depends on your therapist and their chosen style of intervention or therapeutic model. I, for example, am a big fan of cognitive behavior therapy that focuses on how our thoughts influence our emotions and behavior. This model doesn’t care much about the traumas or events that lead to the thought it simply works on modifying them now in the present. It’s a school of thought that, in my opinion, goes hand in hand with the approach shared in this podcast. Therefor, I am disappointed that the authors generalize the nature of conventional therapy. Of course I am aware that not everyone wants or is able to participate in therapy and of course I can see the benefits this information can give to people suffering from binge eating. I am also truly sorry that therapy did not work for Katherine and that her therapist’s approach did not line up with her needs. However I do not think it is necessary to constantly put down therapy or share assumptions that are not necessarily true and can negatively affect people’s perception of conventional therapy.
