    Freddy Gray great interviewer
Always enjoy British view of America and Freddy Grey is clearly a fan but one with a critical eye. He’s an excellent interviewer. Having an American host, especially one who’s long, leading questions constrain discussion, is less interesting.

    Great Commentary
Freddy is a thoughtful interviewer—Kate Andrews brings very little to the table

    Uneven audio levels
The audio levels in the podcast are quite low and uneven, which makes it hard to follow. It would be great if you could consider working with a professional audio producer to enhance the overall listening experience..

    Enjoying the twice-weeklies
I enjoy this podcast more than I used to, partly because the competing News Agents and Americast are so one-sidedly left-wing. Freddy brings a welcome objectivity to American politics. But indeed, as another reviewer has said, it’s “noo-klier” NOT “NU-kyu-ler”. Kinda shocking that.

    Always A Great Affair
I have been a long-time listener to the podcast. Always has great insight into the topics of the moment, and Freddy is an excellent host. This rate and review is long overdue and I'm excited to provide it now. However, my writing at this time was prompted by Cenk Uygur's recent visit to the podcast. I of course know Cenk Uygur by reputation, but hearing him on the podcast reminded me of how unserious of a man he is. How unhinged and ridiculous one person can be and out of touch with reality. I felt like Freddy needed to ask him, would you like to show me where Donald Trump touched you?

August 30 interview with Todd Bensman was so informative and insightful. Never miss an episode.

    Consistently excellent analysis
As a dual UK/US citizen, I appreciate Freddy Gray’s deep knowledge of US politics (both historical and current day) as well as his very measured and slightly sardonic British tone. Love hearing a non-hysterical political analysis in calm, dulcet tones.

    Variety of Guests
Thanks for the great interview with Jeremy Carl. Houston we do indeed have a problem.
  • Larskat
    Interesting podcast
But Curtis Yarvin was a lousy guest. What a moron!

    innovative take on US politics
in general, a fair and balanced stable of interviewees to provide insights on U.S. politics and society. that said, a few more voices from mid-america would be useful.

    Great pod
Always entertaining and illuminating, and a highlight of my pod listening. I do wish however Mr. Gray would tackle the Trump supporters in the same fashion that he challenged Mr. Ornstein on May 5th (who I thought was marvellous). Too often he gives them easy outs and does not appear as neutral as he suggests.

    Dershowitz
I’ve heard Alan Dershowitz before and love that he points out Republican hypocrisy as well as Democrats . It’s a sad state of affairs when unbiased commentators are a difficult find in America .

I like Freddy Gray, but much less Jacob Heilbrunn please. His takes are tediously mainstream and uninformed.

    This is a Talmudic podcast
Only one group of people thinks it’s okay to kill hundreds of kids to eliminate one criminal

Interesting takes from the sometimes crackpot right
But man, I’d you’re talking about nuclear masters, please say it right. It’s NOOK-le-ar. When you say NOK-You-last with a British accent you should even shine than when Americans do it.

    Spectacular
Truly a spectacular podcast. Erudite and incisive analysis of american culture and politics.

    Favorite podcast, of many!
I have been listening to Americano for some time now and I feel obliged to write a review - purely for increasing the likelihood that doing so might somehow help it reach more people and continue on as long as Freddy Gray is willing to indulge us with his excellent style. The depth and range in the guests on this show is mind boggling at times. Bravo to the producer for lining up such interesting people so consistently. Truly the best!

    Wonderful program.
Indeed! I think John’s explanation of how we got into this mess was so enlightening. I’ve shared this with friends who have an interest in the problems caused by the NATO expansion. I suppose we had an opportunity in the early nineties to work with the Russians but that opportunity came and went. I wonder how much the US defense industry had to do the NATO expansion. How could a predatory capitalist hound dog like the military industrial complex pass on a chance to make some big bucks that would fill their troughs for many years.

    Brilliant Perspectives…
that go against the grain but make you think. Highly recommend. Not a water minute.
  • sextus Pompeius
    Informed and open minded
Excellent coverage of American politics and culture. I live there so can tell it’s fair and open minded, not pushing an agenda like a lot of mainstream outlets. Highly recommended!

    Good podcast so far
I like the one with Curtis Yarvin who always has interesting things to say about history and is very well read and has a good sense of humor. Will check out other episodes. Thanks 🙏

    A healthy perspective
It’s refreshing to hear a perspective outside of American media, concerning matters of concern within our country. The comments are thoughtful and sober, thankfully not a rehash of the left vs. right clamor. Many times taking a few steps away from home can let you see home more honestly.
  • jendudysisk
    The view from the right
Clear, unapologetic and strong one-eyed right-wing slant is clear from Freddy and most contributors to Americano episodes - significantly more so than the Spectator’s UK political analysis, which is still broadly centre-right, but much more balanced than Americano. Worth listening to if you take this bias in to account, but it descends to the level of laughable right wing propaganda at times.
  • T-M. 7
    May 27th
Why on an episode which is supposed to be about mass shootings is your guest speaker talking about illegal immigrants crossing the border who are drug dealers? Not the and racist - much like everything else she had to say. Won’t be listening to this pod again.

    Trump lies
It is extremely unfortunate that Freddie Gray chose to interview Liz Harrington, Trump’s mouthpiece, and failed to challenge any of her lies. This podcast made me mad.
  • Lucy_Snowe
    Seattle area Anglophile
It’s January 6th, 2022 and I’m so irritated with the media’s biased, non-stop coverage of January 6th. I watched BLM riots wreck havoc on my city with seemingly full approval from those around me and in the media. The lack of fairness in coverage of January 6th versus the riots of the summer of 2020 has deepened my cynicism and mistrust of the media. It was a relief to hear my own sentiments echoed in the voice of John Daniel Davidson.

I enjoyed the 26 minute Podcast with Classicist, Author, Farmer, Commentator - Victor Davis Hanson; specifically how Victor (a Central Valley Californian) profiled 2-3 British examples to parallel what’s occurring today in the United States - I.e. Labour’s un electability post Blair - as a 1960’s style English leftist/socialist agenda (Corbin) pushed Labour left, and in a dated dreary manner. Victor draws insightful parallels and contrasts between the US and Britain - and yes! He’d be great to get back ahead of the 2022 US mid-terms.

    Liz Cheney
Great podcast. The American conservatives need to stand for conservative values. And Liz Cheney does NOT

    Excellent Stuff
I'm a British refugee in America, and I love that the Spectator (the best publication in the world) has reached the US. This podcast is really excellent. Freddy is really fair and engaging. Keep it up!

    Dump Grace Curly not Liz!
Grace Curly doesn't know what she's talking about! I say dump Grace not Liz
  • Francis McNally
    Great
This is my favorite current affairs podcast. It’s invaluable for Americans to get an “outside perspective” on our bizarre country. The Americano consistently supplies thoughtful and articulate analysis.
  • Brooklynsos
The only periodical left to trust
This is the only historical periodical left with any integrity, and as a centrist, it is such a welcome relief to also get a podcast. This is cathartic because it makes sense. Highly recommended.
  • BTMule
    Hit the road, Heilbrunn
The Spectator (and Gray) typically carries varied conversations and conveys intelligence; Heilbrunn, however, does not convey anything interesting and has a nasally voice to boot. Better and more contrastive opinions are out there! Otherwise, Freddy does a great job picking guests and gives them enough room to share their takes.

    Hate Rooney
I agree, her novels are boring, silly. Thank you , “staring at their own navels.” She just isn’t interesting can’t relate.

The podcast interview with Jeff Fynn-Paul was excellent, well conducted and the guest was interesting and informative. Would love to hear back from him.

    Intelligent discussions of current events
So enjoy hearing an intelligent dialogue about current events instead of propaganda. Very refreshing. Thank you

    Oh dear...
Was looking for a balanced centre right perspective on US politics, but it’s now espousing Pro-Trump rubbish, hoped for better. I’ll stick to Coffee Shots.

    Not great
It’s a great podcast for those of you who are interested in hearing angry white men whine about the world changing.
  • Not even a conservative
    Best show
Love it never miss an episode, leave it to a British podcast to be the only media that actually understands what Trump is. I can’t believe some of these reviews, you are doing a great job Freddy!
  • Talola
May appeal to a small group of listeners
Tiresome and sour anti-anti-Trump blather. Attack the American liberals from the left stuff, but without any of the fun or occasional inspiring ideas that sometimes comes along with that.
  • Sal from Cambridge
    Well Done & Interestingly Quirky
It’s great fun to hear a smart Brit trying to make sense of the wacky reality of America today.
  • frederik99
    Fun & Informative
    Really enjoy Freddy's interview style
  • vinnzinnt
    Worth a listen
Freddie is excellent and even-handed. An eclectic selection of guests, all over the political spectrum.
  • unquantifiablehazards
    “White identitarian” drivel
Reckless to have an individual “interested in facism” and who “does not support race mixing” on your show. I am all for listening to alternative points of view, but I don’t think your interviewer did a good enough job of challenging these ideas. I listen to every episode of your other podcasts, but I will be giving the Americano podcast a miss!
  • Daniel Berlin Brigade
    🇬🇧 I enjoy very much.
Sober, sane, well spoken, intelligent, intellectual, British, questioning and a fine roster of writers being interviewed. Thank You.

    Downhill in recent months
As a Brit in America, this was once a good podcast with commentators that argued both sides of the debate. It’s now become Fox News by another name with nothing but Trump apologists that Freddy Gray et al refuse to hold to account. Even the previous tag line, “the Trump presidency, the gift that keeps on giving” was quietly dropped. I assume this shift was a commercial decision by the Spectator for the American market but it’s unfortunate.
  • MKB 123
    Mr.
Clueless enough to have Ann Coulter on; really egregious r/w trash. Contrary to the show’s description, it’s not really “in depth”, and seems to want to carry a recurring theme of “no collusion”. BTW, writing this review, the following text came up automatically on the screen: “Insular right wing nonsense.” (Why? This is not a reply to a previous review.) Wouldn’t have written it myself but basically agree, and it’s what you might expect from a Brit who seems to speak through his back teeth & clenched jaw. Just a cultural quirk of some in class-bound land of Brexit, I suppose. The best episode, enlivening and actually worth hearing, would be the recent one with Thomas Frank, shortly after the 2019 State of the Union speech. A peephole into the real world of history and context opened up in the thick shell of the smug Tory-ish neo-liberal world view. Other than that, predictable, tedious and disappointing, even for the Spectator, where Gray’s columns . . . appear.
