Kill By Kill: Talking Horror Characters One Death At A Time

213

In each episode, Patrick Hamilton and Gena Radcliffe unpack all the gory details of horror cinema's least discussed topic: the characters. From Friday the 13th to Nightmare on Elm Street and beyond, our mission is to detail each hack, slash, and decapitation in the hopes that a victim's untimely end is just the beginning of the jokes we can make about them.

    Great Podcast!
Patrick & Gena are so much fun to listen to. Funny & smart discussions of a wide variety of movies. I love when they discuss animal attack movies & KBK After Dark where they discuss Erotic Thrillers. The Episodes on Graveyard Shift & Color of Night are particular favorites! Highly Recommend!

    So so so good!!!
I discovered this podcast about a year ago, and have been bingeing episodes from the beginning like crazy. I love it so much! If you aren’t listening, then you’re missing out! 5 stars! As requested, I will say that my favorite Stephen King novels are The Green Mile, and It. Keep up the good work, Kill By Kill!

    Honestly obsessed…
I wanted to leave a review because these guys are genuinely, both two of the funniest and most entertaining people I’ve listened to. I’m literally watching every movie I haven’t seen after the third one so I can appreciate the episodes better and their excellent takes. I will say though, I do personally enjoy Ethel and Junior as characters in Pt V, I’ve always wanted to see an adaptation of Emmett Otter Jug Band Christmas with a Rob Zombie’s Halloween edge so that was cool! My favorite kill in the franchise is probably from one of the worst movies, the liquid nitrogen frozen face gag! If I had to choose a deathventure, I’m choosing Brenda from Pt 1, she clearly moves after going through the window, which makes her an unknown survivor so Jason didn’t even think to…do a Google Maps search for her? Anyways, Patrick and Gena, thanks for being awesome, and making my work days fly by. I appreciate y’all so much!

    Fantastic
A loving look at the genre, excellent guests who always entertain. I love finally finding a podcast with hosts of my age, I feel like the pop culture references are tailor made for me! ;)

    Awesome show
I started listening to kill by kill almost almost 2 years and have enjoyed every episode. There are times I might have a different take on a movie but it does not takeaway from the entertainment value. A couple highlights have been Friday the 13th part five volume 2 when Gena reads the wiki description of Lana’s and Billy’s death and the Visitor episode which we’re both much better than the actual films. This show has brought me so much laughter and entertainment that I became a patron. Keep up the great work.

    Too Snarky
I gave this a shot but couldn’t even finish the Friday the 13th 3D episodes and decided to bail out. These are two of the most unlikable, smarmy and sarcastic hosts I’ve ever had the displeasure of listening to.

    My Saturday Treat
I stumbled upon this podcast and was intrigued by the idea of positive news stories. I started listening and the stories were only OK at first and I really didn’t quite get Alison and Tod‘s personalities yet. But I like to go for long walks on the weekend and listened to it anyway. After a few weeks I really started to enjoy their style and how they interacted with each other and how they looked at the world. Now I look forward to listing every week. Give it a try and give it a few weeks to “get it”.

    Awesome
Gena and Patrick are a treasure trove of pop culture and deep cuts (really, really deep cuts), and I have laughed out loud more than with any other podcast. 100% recommended.

    It’s ok- there’s better
I like this podcast but the hosts are in their 60’s I think so there’s a bit of a disconnect. It’s a bit like listening to Bob Ross painting show but the humor is dull. They also tend to leave their guests behind or get little involvement from them. I think this is due to their humor as it’s a bit off . There’s better. Highly recommend Horror Virgin or Evolution of Horror for hosts with better horror knowledge.

    Love!
I recently started a new job and thought that a podcast describing horror movies would be fun to try and listen to for a few hours during the day. Instead I listen to this podcast at work, while driving home, and sometimes while I’m making dinner because I’m just not ready to stop listening. I love Gina and Patrick and love their sense of humor and learning about crazy little background details I may have missed. I enjoy their guests and how everyone interacts and shares their opinions. I started with the 2 most recent episodes and immediately sorted oldest to newest and, after starting from the very beginning, I’ve now only just finished the Nightmare on Elm Street commentaries. I have a ways to go but I’m enjoying every minute. This is a great podcast with really wonderful hosts that I won’t hesitate to recommend and you better believe I subscribed on Patreon as soon as I could!

My ear holes bleed every time I listen to this podcast. 5 stars out of a million. Would not recommend unless you like being entertained.

Hilarious and insightful — subscribe now!
Back in summer 2020 I discovered Kill by Kill, and since then I’ve found myself eagerly looking forward to Fridays when new episodes drop. Patrick and Gena’s love of horror movies shines through every single movie they analyze — but that’s not to say this is a dry podcast. FAR FROM IT. This duo are hysterical, in their skewering takedowns and wry observations, and it’s really lovely when they just flat-out make each other laugh. They’re never mean-spirited (I mean, unless the film’s TERRIBLE) and always look for places to praise a movie. Revisiting my fave slasher franchises has been such a joy alongside the Kill by Kill pod. These guys are brilliant!

    Great podcast for horror fans!!!
Patrick and Gena have great chemistry and they’re hilarious! I adore this podcast!

    The BEST
I feel the need to update my review- always 5 stars. I just wanted to expound upon why I love this podcast so much. Patrick and Gena have the best chemistry, and manage to make me laugh every single week. It has also inspired me to broaden my movie-watching horizons. Patrick paints a truly comical picture of exactly what’s going on in these movies, and Gena is perfectly witty and funny with the best laugh. *see Friday the 13th Part 2 toilet episode My favorite kill? Gotta be Student Bodies-Paper Clipped to death. Because if I’m going out, it’s gotta be absolutely ridiculous.
  • Barry_Parker_
    Hilarious!
Patrick and Gena are couple of the funniest people ever. I first listened to their commentary of 1981’s The Fan and have been hooked ever since. They’re able to talk about the absurdity of many a horror or thriller film in a way that is in depth, witty and hilarious and never feels mean spirited. Love this podcast!
  • MOREOTTER
Perfect marriage of fun & informative
The hosts’ chemistry mixed with a rotation of interesting guests makes revisiting some of my favorite horror franchises even more fun. They pulled off being both comforting and fresh, which is always welcome but especially perfect when I’m listening at work.
  • Spectre7505
    Excellent Show!!!
Love the show Patrick & Gena! I enjoy your style of humor & how you’re able to bring life to films that aren’t always fondly remembered by the zeitgeist (yes, even The Exorcist 2)! My favorite kill in the films you’ve covered is Warren Stacey’s execution by Kessler (Bronson) in 10 to Midnight.

    Long overdue
I first came across this podcast about 3 years ago and since then it’s become a comfort food for me much like the Friday and Nightmare series. I really enjoyed what I heard but fell for the show when I got to your episode on my all time favorite horror comedy Student Bodies. Now I can’t wait for new episodes and fill a lot of my work hours listening to older episodes again and again. Thanks for all the hilarious content and keep up the great work.

It feels like having a conversation with friends!
I stumbled upon this podcast early 2019 quite by accident. My initial draw was that they had episode(frequently multi)long reviews of the ANoES and Ft13th series. I was hooked immediately and went all the way back to the beginning. The concept of focusing on the characters in these films was a great idea and easily interspersed with a general synopsis and review of the films. Each episodes varies greatly and brings some nice trivia along with a wealth of entertaining banter and information. Their insights, whether personal rants or laser focused critique, are very relatable without feeling like tropes. I found that even when I vehemently disagree(c’mon Jason X is great for what it is) with their opinions I never feel dismissed. They fully embrace the fact that we are a very diverse people with different tastes and are never vitriolic or overly mean spirited. There are a few cases where they come close, but it is always well warranted. I can’t recommend this podcast enough to any horror fan and it is one of my all time favorites. Sorry I took far too long to review! Keep up the good work you two!

    Fantastic
This is my favorite podcast. I didn’t know where to start, and I ended up choosing Black Christmas 2005 of all episodes to listen to, and promptly downloaded probably 20 more episodes and made my way through the whole catalog, now I can’t wait to see what’s next. The hosts are a delight, I love Patrick and Gena, Dish by Dish is a DELIGHT and as long as they keep doing this weird little podcast I’ll be here to listen. So many gems, and plenty of movies I haven’t seen that were worth checking out for a laugh too.
  • kreepykev
    So re-listenable!
Still my favorite podcast and upon periodic re-listening I find the jokes still work and warehouse work is just a little less warehousey... so excited for prophecy! My fave kill in that genre is the Twinkie sleeping bag and has been ever since I saw this movie on vhs in honors chemistry in high school (that is not a joke thanks Mr. Sinclair) and it ignited my love of trash movies. Just put together the left turn my life took from honors chemistry to a warehouse and this movie might be directly responsible. Whoa. Gonna make the choice not to examine that too much. Share the podcast!

    Music to my ears!
Patrick and Gina are the Carol & Harvey, the George & Gracie, the Statler & Waldorf of PodCasts! Kill by Kill is a wonderfully informative and hilarious show.

Gena is the Queen of referential humor!
If you like horror movies, this podcast is definitely worth your time! Hosts Gena and Patrick are both so funny together and offer such hilarious commentary on horror movies and the characters within them. I’m constantly amazed at the various obscure references Gena manages to come up to perfectly tie into whichever movie they’re discussing at the time. The format takes a little getting used to (instead of just dedicating an episode to a movie, they actually watch the movie in segments and dedicate an episode to each segment), but when that means you get 6 hours of comedy going through movies like Jason X instead of just one hour, it’s a very good deal!

    Love it!!!
You guys make me laugh during challenging times like these, and I hope to see your guy’s podcast grow!
  • abcook721
I used to like this podcast.
I started listening to Kill By Kill when it launched, and I really enjoyed it. Somewhere along the way, however, it felt like they just started to hate _everything_. It's so negative and feels really mean spirited at times. It's just not for me anymore. I'll probably finish up Freddy Vs Jason then unsubscribe.

    The Best
Look no further. THIS is the funniest, most entertaining podcast in existence. Go all of the way back to episode one and enjoy. You won’t be sorry. Or, maybe you will. After all, you’re doomed. You’re aaaall doooooomed. You know, the death curse and all.
  • Gaveedra
    One of my favorites!
Love this show. Great hosts that both have extremely quick wits. Their movie selection is top notch and their round table of guest hosts are great. A must listen!

    Best podcast ever!
This podcast is amazing, to be fare this is the first podcast I’ve listened too so I have nothing to compare it too, but it is still amazing. The wonderful hosts Patrick and Gena are so funny that they make me look forward to long road trips where I can listen to the podcast for hours. Friday and Nightmare are two of my favorite movie series, as well as my first introduction to horror. My favorite kill from Friday the 13th was in part 4 when Tina is pulled out the window and thrown into the car, and my favorite Nightmare on elm street kill was syringe fingers Freddy. Thank you for making the wonderful content, please keep doing what your doing.

    Great Horror Podcast
Very entertaining podcast! The one offs, like the episode on Pieces, are usually my favorites but it’s fun to hear Patrick and Gena go through Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies as well. Highly recommended!
  • strata777
    Fun pod
Really fun podcast. I always think Gina serves no real purpose but she is just so dang funny sometimes! Also, Patrick is 100% on the DL. None of these facts really relate to the quality of the podcast but just my thoughts.

    My Happy, Murderous Place!
Unwind and listen to two funny pals you’ve never met make fun of all the deaths you’ve already watched in every Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movie! Sure, you probably remember Julian getting his head punched off in Manhattan, but do you remember Cable Car Cat or Juicy Werewolf Butt from Nightmare on Elm Street? Don’t say you do. You don’t. Until you listen to Kill By Kill that is. Thanks for all the LOLZ, Gina and Patrick! I’d sing to you’s in an outhouse any day. Do yourselves a favor and give this podcast a listen. As in RIGHT NOW!

    Love your podcast
I love you Patrick and Gina. I look forward to your Friday podcast and not just because i know 7 days later i get paid but i am a huge horror buff and nightmare on elm street is my fav. My fav death is Sheila’s death in part 4 because i used to have asthma and it scared the poop out of me. Btw Grady in part 2 got picked up by the neck before will and Kincaid. So this is a trend :). Can’t wait for nightmare part 4 Dereck
  • kreepykevsart
    Hilarious trashy fun for all
Great podcast, hilarious commentary and laid back style. My favorite kill in nightmare/Friday is crispin Glover’s character in the final chapter ‘cuz Jason will always help you find the cork screw...
  • hammy8450
    Always entertaining!
My favorite kill is when Jason is “killed” in the 7th movie by the undead physically and verbally abusive father. My only question is why wasn’t the dads body recovered from the lake when he died so many years earlier, and how did his “members only” jacket stay looking so fresh? I need answers!!!

    an unkillable source of joy
This podcast is a road flare of light shining in the dark through a dude's throat. 10 out of 10 would follow the hosts to space, to hell, to whatever Canadian lake somehow connects with the East River, and wherever this franchise may lead.
  • Torgo3K
    Patrick and Gena are kewl.
Gena is really kewl! And, Patrick has a delivery fit for those grindhouse trailers from back in the day. Listen to their show!

    Hilarious Horror
Even if you’re not a fan of horror, you’ll enjoy the comedic wit of the hosts. Whether it’s laughing at the physics of naked water skiing or simply breaking down those traditional horror archetypes, you’ll want to hear how Kill by Kill’s take on these classics.
  • Father Nickname
    Very fun!
I’ve laughed out loud a whole bunch with this podcast, it has very funny and knowledgeable hosts and guests. I love horror movies and I love to pick them apart, so this is just about perfect. My favorite Jason kill is the folded sherif from part six. My favorite kill overall is Jane’s death in Tenebrae. Thanks for the great podcast! Dan
  • Benjibot
Get Bunked! (And then listen to this show.)
I absolutely love this show. Our two charming hosts and delightful guests take one of my favorite franchises to heel in a loving way. Our favorites are problematic, and they deserve to be lauded and shamed. KbK does exactly that.

Great idea for a show. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks there is a solid connection between slashers and action flicks from the 70’s and 80’s. Even some of the new ones. Watch John Rambo pop up behind the enemies in that new Rambo movie looking like Mike Myers. Thanks.
  • LaLaBW
    Goofy, fun and funny
Hadn’t seen the Friday films in years, but when a friend recommended this pod to me I decided to check it out and I’m so glad I did. The two hosts are really funny together and they have on all sorts of guests that always add a lot to the conversation. Just an absolute blast to listen to.

    Must listen for F13 fans!
If you love all things Friday the 13th, why aren't you already listening to this podcast? Two mega fans remind us how wonderfully imperfect this series really is, all the while scratching that Jason Voorhees itch (ew). Also, favorite kill in the series? It's a tie between Little Dream Jason drowning Alice (do dream kills still count?), the harpoon wiener stab from The Final Chapter, and frozen ice face from Jason X.
  • Dawningit
Horror by death, how is that not ideal!?!
Listen, I was raised in an anti-horror home. But this is all the feels focusing on what everyone cares about. Not to mention the charisma of the co-hosts. Extra shouts to Gena being a gem and we need more women’s voices in all genres, so glad to experience it with this. Keep it up all! You get me through work!
  • Will Whiskey
    Put simply, it’s AWESOME!
Kill By Kill is a great, hilarious horror podcast that anyone can enjoy. I just finished listening to all the episodes and I’m honestly sad that I don’t have a plethora of episodes on hand and now I have to wait for new ones to be released. It’s one of the few podcasts that can make me laugh out loud. Friday the 13th holds a special place in my heart because my husband is a HUGE fan of the series and he really got me into them when we met. I’d seen a few here or there, but never sat down and watched the whole serious until he made me. We still watch them all several times a year, but especially on Friday the 13th’s or if we alone in a cabin in the middle of the woods (it happens more than you’d think). Anyway, Ft13th gives me the warm and fuzzies and that has been extended to this podcast! Also, I love how queer friendly and inclusive the podcast is!! I’m thrilled they’re doing Nightmare on Elm Street next! My favorite death is, without a doubt, the wheelchair down the stairs from Part 2. The first time we watched it together my husband told me that the actor who was in the wheelchair was gay and he became a gay icon after Part 2 because he was so hot. I have no idea if it’s true, my husband could have made it up, but it always makes me smile when I think of it.

A must for anyone visiting Camp Crystal Lake
You don't realiy realize how many bizarre character choices there are in horror movies until you hear them discussed in detail. In between the Friday the 13th films there are also one (or two) off episodes of other not as iconic but still fun horror movies like Student Bodies, Prom Night, etc.
  • ryan lesher
    Great listen for slasher fans
Came across the show because of a plug on another podcast. Absolutely look forward to each episode. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see what series gets reviewed next.

    Great movie podcast
This is my favorite movie podcast. Patrick and Gena are hysterical and every guest they have has been a delight (especially Nick White on their first ep talking about F13 pt 7 💖). I love how they delve deep into each movie to point out the absurdities. My first experience with F13 was when I was really young, probably under 8, my family took a Wisconsin vacation (that’s when you stay in the state, but check into a hotel with indoor swimming during winter). When everyone else fell asleep, I stayed up and watched a F13 movie marathon. It was the greatest, and my underdeveloped brain fell in love with part 7, which is still my favorite. If I had to choose a death, I would go with Rob’s death from part 4. Instead of screaming help, he’s murdering me, I’d make it super Wisconsin: “Oh crap, looks like I’m aboot to be murdered don’t-cha-know” My only qualm with the podcast is it’s bi-weekly. I need more of this podcast. Love, Mook 💋
  • JSComix
    Fantastic format!
Love the idea behind this and it’s very well executed. The hosts have a great charm and clearly are fans of the horror genre. Been binging episodes since I came across them a week or so ago and I look forward to catching up. My favorite Friday kill has to be bashing the sleeping bag hologram campers together from Jason X!
  • kiranapoleon
    Love it!
There are so many Friday the 13th movies and so many people die in each one that they really start to blend together. This podcast lovingly mocks every slashed and hacked character, and really gets into how baffling most of this movie is. It's hilarious and very bingeable!
