Arts #44Food #6

Each week, chef David Chang and host Chris Ying gather the members of Recipe Club to debate the best way to make the food you want to eat. Together, they hack and slash their way through the millions of recipes out there, so you don’t have to. In this latest season, the gang is tackling specific occasions—date nights, potlucks, late-night snacks, the first time you cook for the in-laws—and “politely” discussing whose advice you should take. Every episode of this chart-topping podcast is a hilariously relatable deep dive into deliciousness. Listen and watch new episodes every Wednesday. Like having my homies around (except they can cook!)
I love this show so much. While I often do learn a few things about the ingredient or cooking methods (they are PROs, after all!) what I really love is just listening to the banter, sometimes I don’t even know what they’re cooking. I know there’s a lot of ppl put off by the swearing, but that’s what I love about these guys…they sound EXACTLY like me and my friends. David Chang is an evil genius and Chris Ying is the perfect foil. Dudes kill me every time. Don’t ever change!!

Not a fan of Season 4
I’ve listened to every episode of Recipe Club since season 1. What I liked about the show is hearing how other people (from casual cook to professional chef) would choose to follow/interpret an obscure recipe found on the internet. The new format in season 4 is unorganized and doesn’t attempt to be informative about food or cooking anymore. Now it’s just a random mish mash of unfocused conversations and opinions like every other generic amateur podcast.

    Why the censorship??
I was really looking forward to the new season but the bleeps are distracting. Why are the episodes being censored this season? Bring back our curse words!

    Please bring back the regulars
I really don’t like the new format but I’m giving 5 stars for the excellence of the past. I like that CY is a moderator, although it takes away the narrative tension of his bitter sadness. The regulars made the show, and I grew attached to them because they had strong personalities. I could care less that it’s a more logical competition where new people I don’t care about are all together. No new friends.

Content is great, sound is awful
I love the content of this podcast, but the sound is absolutely terrible. The volume is constantly fluctuating across the entire podcast in between various speakers. With all the talented people on this, it’s really confusing to me that they can’t get the sound right. But the content is really, David Chang is a genius.

    They’re Back!
I was so happy to see Recipe Club’s new season. I LOVE the new guest judges~ an improvement over a couple of the past regulars who were no bueno. I left the first episode of the season feeling frustrated over the sound editing, (or lack thereof). It was a constant dance of adjusting the volume on my device, which is annoying. It needs to be leveled out, or forever be a 4-star show.

Great great show, but at times nearly unlistenable
Absolutely love love love the content - please tho, you have all that Ringer money - why do you still sound like garbage? At times it is almost inaudible so I crank the volume and then the ad breaks blow out my ear drums. Get these folks some better mics!

    Corporate Shills.
Honestly, hearing David Chang talk about how Whole Foods is a great partner, while Bezos cancels his employees union organizing, and Chris Ying follows behind him like the most pathetic puppy dog of a person, makes me want to vomit. You guys are even lamer than the frat boys you act like.

    Love the club!
Thank goodness you’re back but the bleeping curse words is really annoying.

    Nice
Awesome. Love recipe club. Why can’t there be a contest where some of us listeners get to be in studio to try and judge or cook? Can’t wait…..

    Please come back!

    Dave come back
Great show but I always skip the eps w Priya in them. She seems to hate most food and Every ep she’s on she brings the vibe of the episode down w her negativity and complaints. She’s also always talking about her parents which is bizarre and tiresome. Big theater kid energy for sure. Love everyone else tho

    I love it
I absolutely love this podcast. Love Dave Chang so much but to me this is one of the best things he has created. Is there no more after season 3?
  • ZEeed@wg
    Yes please!
Love this show. Always makes me laugh, and occasionally I’m super inspired to try some of their recipes. Plus it’s educational if you’re into cooking.

    So fun!
I laugh out loud every week and learn lots about unfamiliar cooking techniques and food cultures. Love all the wedgies and they each bring such different skills to the show! Dave can be rude but he is a super skilled chef and it’s cool to hear his process.

Really want to listen but waaaaay too much useless chatter. Get on topic quicker and I’ll give it another try. Your personal conversations do not interest me.
  • BlueFishRedPond
    Abuse
I wanted to listen, but David Chang’s abuse of everyone is just too triggering.

    Pork Chili
The first 20 minutes was frustrating. No structure or information and forced punchlines.

    Fix your audio!
Love the podcast, but I had to stop listening because of the audio issues. Some people’s audio (usually Chris Ying) is so soft that I have to turn the volume on my earbuds way up to make out what they’re saying, only to get my ear drums blown out when the next person (usually Dave Chang or a guest) speaks, or when there’s an ad. During one recent episode, there was a sudden volume change that was so bad that I fear I did real damage to my ears. I turned it off mid episode and decided I sadly had to be done with the show.
  • I tried. I really did.
    Not what I expected
I wanted to get through one episode to be fair to the show, but I couldn’t. The banter’s boring and there’s nothing to learn here that I can’t learn by myself ala Google. Maybe it was different in the beginning, but listening to the most recent episode, I think only people who have established or want to establish a parasocial relationship with these guys will enjoy this podcast. I couldn’t stomach it (lol).

    Love all the wedgies!
Truly look forward to listening every week and end up laughing out loud. The team’s each week are fantastic. I have learned so much about ingredients and cooking methods would never have known otherwise!! Keep it going! Please!!

    Best podcast in the world
All the wedgies are perfect and the show is great. Listen and have some fun. Review below this can’t hear the show because of audio issues but still gives 5 stars cause thats how good it is

The food podcast I was waiting for
This is what a podcast about food should be - informative, funny and inspiring. Also the most chaotic.
  • Boomersareokay
    Hot dogs 🌭
I laughed out loud - this episode was hysterically funny. What a duo! Brian is one of my favorites; he, Chris and Dave are perfection. The hot dogs all sounded ghastly, but they are in reality anyway. A+

    Listen w the kids
My teen kids enjoy this podcast w me and we love all the guest cooks who are great too. We’ve enjoyed the wheel too. My daughter just asked if gabi and Chris need to stop the “try-guy fake fighting “cause it grosses her out lol but she’s a little prudish and thinks Dave Chang’s the funniest.

    Great show, poor audio quality
Loved the show from the beginning. The sound is just off this season. I have it on max volume with AirPods, but then the ads are really loud, or if the phone rings or a text comes in, it’s painfully loud. Figure it out!
  • N4th4n4r
Three years in and they are figuring it out
Really love the new wheel of death/format! One thing that you can say about the guys is that if give them three years to workshop something, they will really start figuring it out.
  • Taypaw
    Just end it already…
Pretty much just an hour of David Chang abusing his employees/coworkers, cheating in season 1 and 2, suddenly the sheriff of season 3 because now he cares about rules, and everyone having to cook with completely dumb “restrictions” to up the drama. 🤷‍♀️ Just why?! Dave needs to read the reviews for his new cooking show… meaningless restrictions and complications just dilutes good cooking by good chefs.
  • 🎧werk2much
    The competition is so fun!!!!!
So many people have been giving thing these guys hate for the competition. The competition is fun and adds an extra level. I love this podcast and am obsessed
  • kwmpls
Was the best podcast ever/ no more
Recipe Club is my favorite podcast and it makes me happy- this is what I thought before. Now you guys obviously don’t want to do it so you are ruining it. This season is the worst. It would have been better to just end it on a good note. ☹️

    Great pod, mic check
Love the podcast, but someone needs to fix Rachel’s mic. Her audio is harsh.
  • PodSaveAmerica4eva
    Season 3
The podcast has taken a major step back with the third season and all of the silly fighting and unrealistic limitations from the wheel. It makes the recipes and the stories from the listeners virtually useless. Not sure why the need to introduce these tonics into this season, especially in an audio medium. Bring back the season 2 format!!!
  • theanywaygirl
    Not really RECIPE club anymore
Season 3 has too much emphasis on competition. Someone needs to make the original recipe because that’s the point of the show! Now there is no actual insight into whether the recipe is good or not or how to improve it. Turning the recipe into Keto or pantry only or lux is not actually helpful. Still vaguely entertaining but missing the older formats.
  • Gamer mills
    Season 3 is bad
I understand what they were going for by adding all the reality tv style challenge stuff, but the show isn’t about cooking or recipes anymore. It’s an hour of three people dragging each about all the minor things they did wrong or how they broke the imaginary rules that weren’t even established well.
  • 13Jim69
    Always fun
I used to love this podcast but I am not a fan of all these gameshow antics the show has arrived at now. It reminds me of the worst of Food Network where there are cooking game shows that surprise the contestants with things like blindfolds or cook with one hand behind your back. If you enjoy eatertainment game shows where the premise is more game show than cooking show, lean towards season 3. If you prefer more cooking emphasis NPR style lean towards season 1.

    Lux
Lux Eggs Jambalaya was epic and listening to Bryan Ford describe his process was the real treat. I forking clapped at the end of that.

Somehow the competitive quotient between Chris and Dave has escalated. Looking forward to a good season. We need Priya’s energy. Jan

    Magic
Love this show - Dave and Chris are giving out massive stoner dad vibes and I’m very much here for it. 10/10. Do martinis again.

Dave is ruining the new season
He is over-complicating the wheel of death!! It’s so annoying.

    Dave Arnold’s mom’s stuffing
I don’t live podcast reviews. Saying that I must tell you that Dave Arnold’s mom’s stuffing is absolutely delicious and was all anyone could talk about at Thanksgiving. It’s almost March and I’m thinking about making that stuffing.
  • Ftlwilly
    Great podcast
I love this podcast I’m a faithful listener and can’t wait for the new season

    Foodie
I am not a big podcaster but this recipe club is a blast. As a Chef I think a lot like Chef David. Keep it up the “reach method”!!
  • samalexis12
    Entertaining and educational
I love this show and I wish there was more. I’m a vegetarian so I can’t cook or eat a lot of the recipes but I still enjoy hearing about the techniques and how to read bad recipes and make them better - extremely bad recipes proliferate for “plant-based” blogs, let me tell you.

Come back! I’m ready to cook along
It’s fun, I’ve learned a ton, but discovered it late! I hope y’all do another season so I can cook along with you! Thank you
  • ShivamD
    Great podcast but…
Please bring back the season 1 format, that show deserves 10 stars. Season 2 is a bit boring, the competition and multiple recipes is what made this show.
  • lolabeans20
Dave needs to stop the political jokes
Used to love this show but Dave needs to stop trying to be funny but always making political “jokes”. They’re not funny and it’s just annoying at this point. We really don’t need to know how much you love being a Democrat
