    Why?
I’m so sad this show is sending. I never missed an episode. All are engaging regardless of the subject or sport.
  • wmw42
    Will miss The Lead!
Listen to the show daily, and appreciate miss the great reporting and insights that the host have. Sad to hear it will not continue in 2024!

    Why is this podcast ending?????
This is such a great show - boo to Wondery and The Athletic!

    Going to miss The Lead
I am sad to hear the news that the show will not be continuing. I have listened to it since Day 1. I have enjoyed hearing the in-depth sports stories. It has been a delight. I am glad the Starting Five will still be available. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication. I really appreciate it. You will be greatly missed.

    Fun and illuminating
Just listened to the Marvin Gaye episode and loved it. I knew some of the story, but this episode went deeper. Very cool.
  • deutcrobes
    Intelligent and in depth
I just listened to the recent Bill Russell and Vin Scully podcasts, both richly detailed tributes to two great men.
  • docjkm
    For whom?
At last, a sports podcast for those knowing nothing about sports, by those completely ignorant as well. What niche is this? Very curious, and definitely worth a miss.

    Used to be my favorite
This used to be my favorite podcast (not just on Wondery, but in general), but now they hardly upload, and when they do it feels totally thrown together. I’d be willing to change my review if they came back in the way they used to be. The whole point of the show, at least as I understood it, was up-to-date sports stories told in a meaningful way.

    The Lead
So disappointed with the format change. New approach is like listening to the radio; I can get short takes anywhere. Not sure why the producers decided on this change, but it is flop for me. I enjoyed the single subject, deep dives into sports stories. Go back to original format, please.
  • Celia Parker
    Uninspired and dull
Hosts often fall short of any creativity or originality. Anders is boring and basic, Tiffany annoying. Inaccurate sports coverage. Empty neoliberal lip service to representation with no real grasp or commitment to change and diversity.

    Motivation
This podcast gave me enough Motivation to go from only being able to do one pull up to being able to do a one arm pull up in a couple of weeks.

Omg Tiffany Oshinsky, stop with the giggling !!!!!!!

    Listen every morning
This is the first podcast I listen to every morning. It’s diverse so I hear about sports I don’t typically watch, which has been a great way to learn more about them. And I loved listening to the March Madness predictions where Gonzaga was picked to win! I think the podcast has been a great addition to The Athletic and look forward to listening to many more great stories.

    Masterpiece
I love this show SO much. I listen every day. I love how in depth the show goes with the stories. They really bring sports to another level. I’m so sad to see Kavitha go.

    So far so good
Hey, Mike Lombardi said to listen so I did, that’s good enough for me. By the way he was right. Love me some Bill Walton!!!! More please!!

    Pretty Good
I used to love listening every day, but now there are a few good episodes a week. Overall, great pod.
  • gobravesboy
    It's aight
keep to sports. Only like 2 good podcasts a week worth listening too
  • LincChap
Only averages two good shows a week
Only averages two good shows a week - I delete most episodes once I see the topic. You will occasionally get a decent story.
  • Jodyyyym
    Great podcast
I really enjoy this podcast but there are way too many episodes about soccer. I used to listen to them all but now I skip some
  • tretugh
    Tired of the woke
Please just keep the sports. That’s all.
  • Jojo4300
    Enjoy the variety
Enjoy the variety of topics. I wish there were more sho s like this with everything available to cover. Quick to get through and really entertaining.

    Ditch the politics!
Due the pandemic, so many sports are currently happening at the same time. Let’s focus on those instead of getting caught up in the politics/social justice. It’s getting old!
  • Blues3902
    Used to be very good...
I really enjoyed this every morning but now there is way to much political views expressed. Please get back to your sports based focus.
  • imabuki
    It’s fine
It’s a so so podcast but because so many trumpers gave it one star I decided to give it five to balance out those crybabies.
  • Jh5aik
    Liberal sports coverage
Besides the fact that Ms. Davidson sounds like a valley girl which is maddening and the very clear fact that this podcast hates the current President and conservatives it can be informative. If they would simply focus on sports without the political/cultural bias it would be much better. And what is it with that guy’s voice being on fire?! I mean really dude nobody cares. So now the unwritten rules in baseball are racist? This show is all about hating America and whites people. This is the WORST PODCAST EVER!!
  • Kawhi4president
    Stick to sports 🙄
Used to be alright but has since turned into a type of political platform dripping with liberalism and anti-conservatism. Needs to be a sports podcast, not a pile of leftist bull crap.
  • nbkutz
    Incredibly dull
Obviously they’re struggling with content due to the lack of sports, but even with live sports coming back on I won’t be sticking around. Biggest sin they commit is the lack of intellectual diversity. Every day it’s the host and guest nodding at each other in agreement which leads to a dull conversation regardless of your opinion. There are more informative and interesting sports podcasts out there.
  • k.hooper
    A great every day listen
I love the variety of guests and the fresh information each day provides on this podcast. I also really appreciate the length, usually fifteen to twenty minutes. Easy to keep up with either running a quick errand or doing a chore around the house. Also, I really appreciate the range of sports reported on.
  • petermann250
Great Show! Much better than ESPN Daily!
In depth analysis of a broad range of topics. Not popular with Trumpsters, Deplorables and Racists!
  • bobkat0731
    Worth a listen most days
This show does a good job of focusing on a variety of sports topics and bringing in experts to take each story a little deeper. However, telling listeners to “leave a 5-star rating” isn’t how it works. Ask for a rating, whatever that might be, to get true feedback on how you’re doing!
  • Kate I.
    Loving it!
I like that they do episodes on both obvious news-linked topics (Green Bay drafted a QB: is Aaron Rogers on the way out?) and more deep-divey pieces (does Bill O’Brien have too much power in Houston?). During this time when there are no sports I’ve kept this podcast in my rotation because it’s more than just scores & stats. Also, I like the hosts & the length is perfect for a daily.
  • Kenpile
    Advertisements
Decent podcast, but the unfortunate trend for the athletic seems to be more ads, less content. Bummer. Update! Realized that if I listen on their site rather than on Apple podcasts, I circumvent the ads! Kind of an inconvenience, but whatever.
  • NG1010
Sports journalism at its absolute best
This is the most well-rounded sports podcast I’ve ever listened to. The Athletic is known for approaching sports journalism in a more holistic and human way than just scores, stats, and viral stories. The team at The Lead stays true to that approach and packages it into a truly enjoyable product that helps me stay not only informed, but inspired! (EDIT: To all the people complaining about “bias”... if you want sports news without commentary, read box-scores)
  • mulwaetweep
    Amazing all-around sports coverage
I’ve been following The Lead since it launched and have loved it since the beginning. The Athletic provides some of the best reporting I’ve seen and I’m happy to report The Lead is no different. They’re able to get me interested even in episodes about sports I don’t follow, and they often use sports as a lens to discuss bigger cultural and societal issues. Really, really well done and the exact kind of reporting I love to see. Like a previous reviewer, I also love the diversity of guests they feature and it’s GREAT seeing a woman at the helm of a sports podcast. Both Kavitha and Anders are top notch hosts. This is one of my favorite daily listens without a doubt.
  • JoannaGR1217
    Love the representation!
Super informative podcast I look forward to every day for sports news!! I especially love the frequency of female guest journalists on the pod for all sports, I didn’t expect that initially for a sports podcast but I appreciate that so much
  • sportynutmeg321
    Wonderful podcast
I love The lead because it showcases in-depth and behind the scenes sports reporting! I like how they look at the cultural side of sports too.
  • Russo Bagwell
    Not Your Typical Sports Fare
Thoughtful commentary that you don't hear on every (or any!) AM sports radio station. I appreciate the work. I don't agree that Cam Newton is an all-star, though!
  • Mahler123
    Great show!
The Lead is an awesome podcast. Every day, even when there are no sports being played, they take a sports event or issue and dig into the angles and perspectives. It’s essential listening for any sports fan.
  • audio4ever
Great podcast especially for people who want something more than play breakdowns
I didn’t care much about sports, but this podcast has made me much more interested in the goings-on of sporting events and sporty people. Each episode has a personal touch, and encapsulates on the humanity of sports. Big fan. I will keep listening!!!
  • Duvall til I die
    Always interesting
The length of episodes and variety of content is great. I love that I never know what to expect from it on any given day but I always end up interested.
  • Lari's Music
    Axe to grind
One sided reporting with an agenda. They are absolutely shocked that anyone would possibly believe that sports could be back on track for the fall. Don’t get me started on the WNBA. The fact that the league isn’t profitable or that sponsors pay a fraction or that nobody goes to games and that tickets cost 10% of nba tickets none of these facts matter. Pay them millions.
  • CharlieHustle16
    Wow
The cam newton episode was pretty bad. I think you guy got confused with reporting vs fan girl reporting. You managed to miss the reasons why he’s not universally loved like you think he should be. Plus, he’s not even close to an All-Timer. He has unique talent, absolutely, but it’s a results based league. He’s not a leader and it’s always been him over team. Poor, biased, reporting that failed to grasp the view of the masses and only went with a fans opinion.
  • ryannstar22
    Great Podcast
Thank you both for the honest conversations and stories you bring to the table through this podcast. Thought provoking and educational. Couldn’t recommend this podcast more.
  • Boothies1234
    I’m done
I tried. I really did. Painting actual biological facts as disgusting insults was a bridge too far in the pay dispute between the female players and US Soccer. The last straw. Seems The Lead is just another left leaning, liberal sympathizing journalism organization that seems to believe its readers/listeners don’t want balanced reporting on “the news” The title of the podcast supposes that the stories being covered are the lead stories of the day and, in my opinion, they are far from it. Good luck with your little podcast. I’m moving on.
  • Ashmedai1
    Mixed
Good format, broad range of topics and interviews, well written. On the flip side, they’re radical leftist ideologues and it comes across, for example recently they covered the “controversy” that the US soccer federation responding to the lawsuit brought by the women’s soccer players claimed among other things that men are superior to women athletically which is an undisputed reality to anyone with eyes, and since higher skill = higher salary in all sports, that is legally sufficient to explain the (theoretical) pay differences between the men’s and women’s soccer players. To hear it from these folks though you’d think that they were busted for trying to sell the players into human trafficking.
  • jjak34
    LA a Clippers town?
Pretty gross not 6 weeks removed from the very genuine civic response to the passing of a Lakers icon, you know the team that has given “working class” Angelenos memories long before some Microsoft billionaire wanted to gentrify a fanbase
  • TrueLiz
    Great stories
I am loving this podcast so far, in the same way that I love The Athletic and other Wondery podcasts. It is at its best when storytelling, as opposed to current events. If you haven’t listened yet, I recommend listening to the episodes on the Negro Leagues, Brandon Roy, Duke Slater, the Ice Bucket Challenge, New Orleans Field of Dreams, Ryan Saunders coping with the loss of his dad Flip, science of the juiced baseball, questions on UNC Concussion Studies and Big League Chew, to name a few! P.s. Since it is recorded at night, it would be cool if it was released a littler earlier than 5/5:30 ET.
  • rachfeld
    Great podcast!
Started listening to it as part of my Spotify Daily Drive and now I never miss an episode. It’s the perfect amount of time, the hosts are really easy to follow, and I love how they cover a variety of sports (men’s AND women’s!!!) I consider myself a home team obsessed causal other sports watcher, but this podcast is great even if you don’t watch sports that much- it’s more like a story then a sports analysis.
  • westwing66
    Love The Lead
Super podcast, perfect length, straight up no chaser informative. Never miss a podcast. Covers a variety of sports which I like.
  • Sjeckers
    Kobe Bryant is a Rapist
You take on domestic violence while praising a guy who violently raped a 19 year old girl. Give me a break.
