'South Side Stories' is a celebration of the real-life people and places that inspired Comedy Central’s hit new comedy series, 'South Side.' With lots of laughs, love and plenty of real talk, 'South Side Stories' proves that what you see on the news is only a small slice of a big city. btb.

    Can’t get enough!
I enjoy this podcast so much that I listen to the episodes repeatedly, like Harolds Chicken 7 times. And I love sharing these stories with my friends. We plan on visiting the Englewood Trail, Harolds at 95th street and Bongo Beach. Thank you for this wonderful cultural experience.

    Love it
Grew up on the south side and definitely miss it. But this podcast show is definitely within my top 3. The R.a.c episode brought back some memories! Keep up the awesome work.

    Better than expected
I like how this isn’t a behind the scenes podcast about the “South Side” tv show on Comedy Central. It’s actually about the culture and geography that inspired the show. You get to hear from real South Siders and learn about their lives. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did.

    Promoting scummy places like RAC?
You’re promoting a garbage business like Rent A Center, claiming you use Rent A Center when we know you make plenty of money, to listeners just guilt free? Extremely disappointing. RAC is a sleazy, dishonest business marketer to lower income individuals, geared toward keeping them low income. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

    TV show is probably better
The audio in the studio recording is good, but when they are not in the studio the audio is pretty bad. So it’s pretty hard to understand what’s going on.

    So good!
Really impressed. These comedians aren’t joking around (unless they are) and the stories of the real folks at Chicago are amazing.

The hosts present the southside like liberal white folks from elsewhere
The hosts seem transfixed by a fantasy, perhaps partly true, that they are guides speaking to “long-haired [white] hippies” with no connection to the Chicago Black community. The awkward voyeurism is off-putting. We get tortured translations of ostensibly unintelligible—to their imagined ‘outsiders’ “—worda like “finna” (i.e., “I’m finna go”). The first vignette about rent-to-own schemes is promising but before you know it they are flirting with lurid stories of violence and then touring the neighborhood with a cop (but, they breathlessly explain, he’s Black). This show needs an editor who grew-up in and remains in the southside and not the type of person who “drove through Englewood but never got out or stopped” — yes, they have a guest on who says that and she then translates Englewood for us). This is not southside stories, but southside voyeurism.
