on1ychildI Listen to EVERY EpisodeThis show has been such a great resource over the past couple years. Getting to listen to all of these wonderful improvisers has really broadened my understand of improv. I love hearing from teachers and getting a piece of their philosophy and sometimes a game that I can take with me. I’ve coached high school improv and now run semi regular improv nights with friends and a lot of what I end up practicing are new games and techniques I learn from this show. I’ve also taken one of Jimmy’s classes on zoom and it was honestly one of the most beneficial classes I’ve taken. He is very patient and definitely knows what he’s talking about. He creates an environment that feels very safe and his notes are always concise and palatable. To any improviser that’s reading this, and doesn’t feel like they have their tribe. I hear you and I see you. I am in the same boat, and I listen to this podcast to feel a sense of community. I hope we find each other some day.

Tim @ AgGradTremendous ShowI’ve been doing improv for about a year and just recently discovered this show. I’ve been working my way through old episodes, and there is so much gold in these interviews! Thank you Jimmy for bringing this wisdom to newbies like me who would never have access to these perspectives. I’ve already bought a few books because I enjoyed the interviews with the authors on this podcast.

Margote18Nick Johne on Jimmy CarraneJimmy Carrane hosts the best podcast on improv, speaking with improvisers who "make a difference". Nick Johne is one of those people. This is a great podcast on Nick's long career in improv and his work teaching improv to kids and adults on the spectrum. Definitely a must for improvisers, therapists and everyone!

camionbleuAn Improv DelightFor anyone who is into comedy improv, either as a fan or as a performer, Jimmy Carrane's podcast is a delight. Jimmy interviews eminent improvisers and spends time on the podcast improvising with each of them. Jimmy's interview style is refreshingly direct and he clearly establishes a touchingly human connection with every guest. This podcast has given me a much deeper understanding of improv and I highly recommend it to everyone who has an interest in improv.
-
PowerNow!Love this podcastThanks Jimmy for offering a great podcast. Your in-depth interviews, personal stories, and improv segements with your guest(s) is top notch.

ScaremyMoranLike a free improv workshopI can't believe this show is free. Jimmy talks to a goldmine of the most important improvisors alive and he's such a great interviewer that he gets them to drip golden nuggets of inspirational knowledge every two minutes.
-
Angela MercierFantasticThis wonderful podcast has helped me reflect on my own improv practices, mindsets, and scenes. Also, the opening song is adorable.

KavesTXImprov NerdI listened to this here and there before becoming an improv student, but now I've listened to them all. Jimmy put me off at first but he's a unique voice in the improv podcast world and he gets pretty deep interviews out of the guests. He's really good at finding the right tone with whoever's on, though sometimes things can seem stand-offish. My favorite interview is with Matt Besser (though it's by far the most awkward) and recent interviews with Cecily Strong, Tim Katzurinsky, and the Magic Tavern boys. The Jeff Quintana interview was very cool and I wouldn't mind hearing more of Jimmy venturing into improv communities outside of Chicago, something unique to this podcast as far as I know.
-
RichiehartzEducational and heartfeltJimmy is not afraid to ask tough questions. He is an exceptional interviewer and I learn so much from every episode. Favreau (#183) is my personal favorite!
-
miclainGreat podcast, look forward to new episodes on Mondays!Love these interviews and especially Jimmy's little personal stories during the intro!!!
-
Logo17Best Improv podcast everI don't know any other podcast that ha filled me with knowledge about of improv. Jimmy is one of my favorite interviewers. He has this way of just balancing the show in which it is about the guest and somehow he still allows his personality to seep into the show. I'm so happy I've found this podcast. I don't know many interviewers who actually let their guests be the guests while also being honoring their shows structure.
-
josephcmackWonderful insightsI love this podcast. I learn something everytime I listen. And not just about improv. About life. Keep them coming.
-
Aleeksandra118Yes!Between the great information and the genuine interest from Jimmy, I couldn't love this podcast more! Such a great resource.

CurtMRequired Listening for improvisersI promote Jimmy’s podcast to our improv students, because as an eternal improv student myself, Jimmy has been my teacher longer than anyone. And, as I do not live in Chicago, Improv Nerd is the best online classroom that exists. I love the format - deeply personal tales of Jimmy’s life, illustrating vulnerability required to truly let go for your partner onstage, followed by an interview with this week’s improv luminary, The interview is also personal, and helps us see what is behind the craft and what fuels it. It’s also a lovely improv history lesson, as each week another pin is planted in the Map of the Improv World, rendering it more detailed and faceted. Finally, Jimmy and his guest(s) improvise a scene together - using the Slow Comedy methods pioneered by Del Close and for which Jimmy is one of the preeminent teachers - and it’s a genuine treat to see (hear?) Jimmy improvise - he can be a very supportive and deep character in a way that has not often been seen since Phil Hartman. If you love improv, be a nerd - an Improv Nerd - like Jummy and me.
-
EvanstonGirl2016Endlessly fascinatingI love this podcast because Jimmy always gets people to reveal a part of themselves that most people never see. He is an amazing interviewer who gets to the heart of what performers are all about -- their insecurities, their struggles, and the risks that they've taken along the way. I love listening to this, and I'm not even an improviser!

RollsacoThe improv podcast of all improv podcastsFour things: (1) This captures the live Improv Nerd show-as-performed, which means the Improv Nerd podcast is the second best thing in the world (2) The hour running time of each show is genius: Jimmy comes out and does some how-do-you-do with the audience; the guest comes out for a sit, during which performance and personal history issues are likely to be brought up and cleared; the guest and Jimmy then do a live improv set; and then Jimmy and the guest sit and second guess everything they just did in the set; as a whole package, the hour is not only highly entertaining but truly informative (3) Because Jimmy's been around virtually since the birth of improv-as-we-know-it in Chicago -- which is the Home City and Pure Fountain Of Improv On Planet Earth -- he knows everybody, so his guests are top shelf (4) Jimmy himself is a walking Cabinet Of Interesting. Don't take my word about any of this. Just listen. It will ADD hours to your life.

WillieBHinesAuthentic and deepJimmy gets into what makes improvisers tick, and I love it.

The nickname is not to be changed!Jimmy Speaks TruthAs a professional teacher, improvisor, and improv coach, Jimmy's podcasts are invaluable. I listen to them daily to ground my mind and remind myself to stay present in the scene. The guests are fantastic and Jimmy's interviewing skills get to the honest core of each person. The lessons and improv debrief have provided many ideas to me to incorporate into my improv, teaching, and life. Recommended for anyone studying the art of improvisation. Or life.
-
justinsnotgayImprov Nerd! Huzzah!I've listened to this podcast for years and always love it! I recommend it to all of my students who want to learn more from anyone and everyone! Jimmy always brings in top notch guests and it helps he's a great host!
-
Ben6491Refreshingly HonestI love this show because Jimmy is so honest about his own fears and concerns and helps bring guests out of their shell. I feel like here you get to hear the real people - their strengths and weakness, fears and likes. I also love the improv portion and the talk after because you get to hear these awesome improvisers perform and then break down their thought process.
-
Mallard0417So Informative!I absolutely LOVE this podcast! Jimmy is incredibly honest with his guests which I feel sets the tone for the interview. I feel that leaves his guests feeling well taken care of during both the interivew and improv sections of the show. It's one podcast that I NEVER miss. It's informative, honest, open, truthful, hilarious, and heart-wrenching all at the same time. It's absoutely wonderful!

christiancoxrpmust listen for improvisersThe best podcast I've encountered for improvisers

bakkThe Improv Nerd is the Improv KingJimmy is an open book. His openness encourages his subjects to open up and be vulnerable. That leads to amazing interviews. His insights on improv, and those of his guests, teach more than any class I ever took. Pick your favorite, fall in love, subscribe and get the shirt.
-
Don’t bother with IVFBest improv resource aroundJimmy has a talent to really get the backstory of the best improvisers in the world. Not only is he able to capture the great stories that lead to the successful careers but he dives deep into where a person comes from, what makes them tick and what they would say is the best advice for someone interested in starting improv today.
-
Worst of All SinnersCrazy Great! This podcast was made for me. It's compelling and fun to listen to. Best of all, I feel I always learn something interesting that I can take along with me during my day. Rock on, Improv Nerd!
-
MovieGuy08Greats talking to greats! The bonus for every listener to Improv Nerd isn't just that Jimmy Carrane gets great guests, but also that Jimmy himself is steeped in rich improv history and is a vital part of it. The knowledge and the funny comes fast and playful.
-
Sam BowersBest improv podcast! This is, hands down, the best improv podcast available. Jimmy gets EXTREMELY personal with his guests in a way that is truly honest and engaging. To hear these celebrities talk about their troubled pasts is an experience you won't get anywhere else.
-
man of brevityhas become a classic for a good reasonJimmy gets real with his guests about improv and life
-
daveyjgnuGreat contentI love listening to this podcast. Great guests and having them actually DO improv is great. My only complaint is the sound quality. I have to turn my speakers up rediculously loud to hear people speaking, especially in the improv segment, but when the audience laughs I go deaf. That is seriously my only complaint though. Love the show and listen regularly.
-
You know that guy, MattHappy InternI wouldn't be able to sit behind my desk and work nearly as well or as long as I do without this podcast. I feel like even if what I'm doing for "the man" isn't important, what I'm learning from improv nerd is!
-
LARAM29Fun Format!Typical show has a good 30 minute interview, then a 10 minute improv with 10 minute follow-up discussion about decisions made for that improv scene. Nicely done, Jimmy!
-
ZurrENaRRhThe Best HomeworkThat's how I treat this show. If you are in classes, make sure you consume a few episodes (or more) every week. No matter what, you will retain small artifacts that will manifest themselves in your next show/rehersal. My other favorite Podcasts help me laugh, think, emote and sing along. This Podcast will help you become a better Improviser.
-

Andrew OlsenThanks JimmySuch an important resource for improvisation. Keep up the good work Jimmy!!!
-
slbailey26WonderfulThis is such a great podcast for people interested in improv. Jimmy is a self deprecating host who does a wonderful job making the guest feel comfortable. I love that they do improv on the show and then break it down afterwards. This podcast is like The Actors Studio for improvisers.
-
RehanKhan510Jimmy in Great!I love this podcast. The only thing that would make it better would be to have video available for the improvisation portion. Jimmy, your self esteem should shall stay intact and high!
