Rc51billyInteresting but…There are a lot of holes in the stories. For example, no description of trials, sentences, how long they were imprisoned, or how they escaped. Some of these stories leave the listener with a lot of unanswered questions
-
tonpetitamiThis podcast should be calledWhite Karens faced the music when they committed crime abroad that they thought they could get away with because of their self-assumed superior race

sreviePQuestion?Why am I hearing ads? I pay $5.00 a month to not.

Henny reneeMakes me feel good about anything stupid I’ve ever done in my entire lifeIf you need a pick-me-up, listening to most of these stories is just the thing. Some of these people have got to be the most dim witted bipeds to have ever tread the surface of this green earth. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, to be sure, but in my 41 years on this earth I have never contemplated doing anything as asinine as some of these people. Of course, some of them are in dire straits and cannot be blamed, but some of them leave me looking to the sky, wondering how long it’ll be until an asteroid just comes clambering down to wipe us all out and the earth will start anew, hopefully never with a creature who might entertain the thought “oh what’s the worst that could happen while smuggling illegal substances across dangerous borders with a collection of randos I’ve found in dimly lit alley ways?” My god. What a trip into the headspace of those who lack any critical thinking skills. Thank you for the spirit lifter.

The voice of reason 24Bangkok underworld- human sex traffickerHe says he knew that he was doing human sex trafficking and never going to see these girls again AND a thousand bucks for each trip- with no regrets. Horrible human being- sad he was caught for drugs and not for ruining lives. Wonder how life turned out for those girls. He should have died in prison.

Fluffster NormalpawsArgentina’s a CliffhangerEscape from Argentina ends in a total cliffhanger. I Googled the story to find out the latest update. This show aired after developments in the story. Would make a much better ending to wrap it up, as far as what happened
-
Brooke WaldenBackstabbed I’m ThailandThis was so sickening to hear Lisa laugh about everything she did to Kim. She was not sorry. What a disgusting human being. Love this podcast on a positive note
-
get some common senseThe ignoranceprivileged people traveling to third world countries.... what do you expect. Do you walk into a lions den and expect to pet a lion?
-
Zilla816Come back!!!I’ve listened to every episode and now I’m freaked out that I missed something. Are you coming back with more episodes? 😊
-
cmisucLocked up AbroadLove your stories! Excellent!

Andie323I want to like it more than I doI truly do. The concept is really compelling. But each episode seems less and less produced. Like explained in other reviews, I understand these stories come from a television show. But instead of just playing random sound bites from the show, how about presenting the information in a new way? About the elementary producing, all of the sudden the ads are just playing in what seems to be the middle of a sentence or thought. I was sure it was an editing mistake but.... it happened again this week. In conclusion, I’m still hanging in by a thread. Wondery can do so Much better!!!!!!!
-
echolocutionNo contextThe Argentina episode is great and then leaves you hanging without any contextual framing. Many episodes have gaping narrative holes - obvious questions that go unanswered. I’ve lost my patience with this series. I’ve let it disappoint so many times. The stories are compelling but nearly always leave you scratching your head at the end about some key detail.
-
MinnesotanPodcasterInteresting, but RepetitiveInteresting stories, but so many of them are the exact same story. I honestly couldn’t tell you the difference between most of the stories. Usually they involve some person who “had no idea what they were getting into” when they decide to become a drug smuggler.
-
Micah666blahblahblahOn this episode of Locked Up Abroad:White person knowingly commits felony in another country, shocked when faced with consequences!
-
Raemi95You’re back!SOOOOO HAPPY you’re back! I missed you!
-
traveler-103Love this podcastI love love love this podcast! Really well done and enjoyable to listen to. I can’t believe how many people are smuggling drugs! And traveling in dangerous jungles! The only thing I’m not a fan of is how easily some of the rich, privileged people get off the hook for some serious crimes. But I’m gonna keep listening!
-
AlagrancosaLow effort tv show to podcastMuch left untold..abrupt ending to “escape from Argentina” is the best example of this
-
ackurAlways details missing...Listen, I know these come from a show so not everything is easy to translate to a podcast, however, it seems like you don’t even try! Background information and important details are always missing so these are often disjointed and boring. Get it together!
-
MeRoLiInVery interested in the stories BUT...I dislike how the intro gives the whole story away (way to long), and wish that more time was spent on when they were actually “locked up abroad” like the title. The editing has a lot to be desired but the topics are super interesting. I keep listening but am rarely satisfied that I got the complete story.

Mousse33It’s okIf you’re out of your fav pods
-
DJW6356Better on TVThe podcast version leaves a lot to be desired. Most episodes don’t even tell about their experience in court or jail. If they do it’s nothing more than just a general “it was bad.” Better on TV, but worth a listen if you’re needing a podcast.
-
Mark61myersGood podcastSeason two is a collection of the stupidest people in the world! Seems like each story portrays a bigger idiot, it’s downright frustrating. Season one was better. Still going through season two though!
-
MerritGHasidic king of cokeIt was all right but not great. The sound editing was super obvious.
-
SirSpinWellsGreat podcast content w/ abrupt ending (HORRIBLE AD)I absolutely love the content. I agree with the other review that they end abruptly though. The story is 100% about what lead up to the crime or kidnapping, then time while in captivity. Zero information about how they were rescued or whatever. With all that being said I absolutely DESPISE the advertisements. The one about hair coloring especially. To here Jim Clemente comment about how lush and smooth his co-workers hair color is painful. Its by far the worst advertisement I've heard on a podcast. I understand they need funding but.... Really. Lol
-
Jenn WolfePrivilege is just the best!I listened to quite a few episodes a while back, and I’ll admit they were good stories. But I noticed a disturbing throughline, namely that people largely from the US and Europe who commit ACTUAL crimes in other countries think they have every f’ing right to not be punished for said crimes. A lot of the subjects are hardly poor innocent victims here. They are high on their privilege, if not in addition to the DRUGS THEY WERE TRANSPORTING. Give me a freaking break.

Geeter406Really good podcast highly recommendExcellent podcast. My only wish is that there was more episodes to enjoy. I feel like listening to more episodes but I have already listened to them all. If you’re a fan of the show you will love this podcast. Very well narrated very well recorded. Really high quality podcast. Again I just wish there was more to enjoy. I look forward to more episodes in the future.

CyberpuddyCompelling stories, but abrupt endings—no denouementI’ve listened to 4 episodes so far from the first two seasons. The stories are compelling, but the endings happen suddenly with no exploration of how they came about. It’s like the cavalry came to the rescue. The listener is left to wonder what happened on that side of the story to bring about the rescue. It’s also like the jailed/kidnapped/etc. protagonists don’t know this part of the story, either. So, the stories feel frustratingly incomplete. Despite this, it’s a good listen.
-
lovtrucrimeThank you!Love the show! Really missed it. I appreciate having it back on other listening platforms.
-
Chubbs303Where’s the episode archive go?Suddenly yesterday all the episodes in season 1 and 2 are no longer available just the most recent released and a bonus ep. disappointed, likely some kind of pay wall.
-
3272016NETFLIXGreat job, Jim!Great stories told in an interesting way; no dragging on.. the best part is that there’s hardly any commercials! P. S. @the SUPER RUDE reviewer that whined about “worrying about other countries... we should focus on ours, blah blah blah” - I’m PARAPHRASING obvi-: JUST SHUT IT. (Wow! You are supeR annoying. 🙄) Not in the mood for your political rants. Great job, Jim! Keep em’ coming! 😉🙂👍🏼 - Jaime (stay at home mommy)
-
L21W21Really?Let’s take a look at what is going on in our own country before we shine a bad light on other countries and perpetuate narratives with niche examples that best serve us and make us feel better. Ridiculous.
-
sunshinemouseMy favoriteI love this podcast!!! My favorite!! Make new episodes!
-
dcvfdfcyhhffdExcusing Criminal ActsAn absurd podcast excusing the acts of criminals and drug smugglers. The latest treatment glorifies a drug smuggler who escapes prison, unbelievable really.
-
Rmed111Good - but at times bizarreGuy crying ruins it
-
12fan4lifeI’m obsessed love loveThis is best podcast So far thank u 👏🏻

A fan of bothWhy go to Luminary when Apple podcast is the bestGood podcast I’m just upset it’s moving to a different platform. I know you’re all thinking just DL luminary & I say why when apple has a podcast app. I don’t see the point to download a new app for me to only use it for this one show 🤦🏾♂️
-
KingutdEpisode 2The guy in episode to sound alike a pompous idiot. He smuggled 4 lbs of cocaine and doesn’t think he deserves to be in jail. Then his dad tried to pay the courts of!? He should have served 25 years. Hopefully the next episode is good.
-
Aly29362A glorification of white privilege at its finestEntire podcast is about white people committing crimes in other countries and committing more crimes to evade justice. Disgusting. The format of the series makes them sound like victims. The premise is: boohoo this prison is awful and inhumane, I shouldn’t be here just because I committed a crime YOU SHOULD. It’s what you all deserve. Wondery, seriously?
-
hgvcsqwwTerrible background noiseBackground noise makes the episodes unlistenable. Good stories. Terrible sound mixing
-
Tejedor.Bloody sound effectsIs it necessary to have the incessant sound effects on every single episode.
-
l.P. FreelyCorny and badly producedFeels like they took a badly produced daytime crime TV show and literally just recorded the audio. Weird background noise, mismatched volume, terrible voice actors. Listened to São Paulo Deathtrap episode - halting, inarticulate, terrible storytelling from the guy who got arrested. Interesting story but good lord
-
liv_098Too much background sound/musicThe stories are interesting but I have to shut off a lot of episodes because of the noise in the background. It really takes away from the story
-
NullityFave show ever.Moved to luminary. Subbed there just for this show.
-
zglobthomasThought they stopped making new EpisodesUsed to listen to this podcast all the time years ago but then I thought they took a real or shut the podcast down. So exited to see there are new episodes!!
-
Lovingmother2015Best podcast ever!I’ve been listening to Podcasts for years now. Whether I’m in traffic or doing the dishes, listening to a good podcast makes boring tasks bearable, sometimes even fun. Locked up Abroad is Awesome! I’ve never enjoyed a podcast so much.. I’m intrigued.and I have to limit myself, or I’d listen to all of them in one day!
-
Amber3956Awesome 👏Great from beginning to end!! True story telling at it’s finest! Also no lengthy interduction or commercials just straight to the point, listened to every episode before going to different podcast
-
EewbrewwSound effects are incredibly annoyingHad to stop listening
-
klash2Excellent stories very in depthI have just found your podcast and am blown away with it. Amazing stories to hear and I love the editing it takes you there and makes you feel as if you are there as it’s happening. Keep up the great work guys.
-
FlybigdWhy?I’m sure this podcast is good, but why try to hype everything with loud annoying music? This isn’t a TV show. Distracting to the point I stopped listening.
