    Great concept, strong execution
I was trawling for podcasts about the black plague and the 2nd episode of this show came up. I was skeptical - the artwork led me to suspect this wouldn’t have a sniffy British host like I’d grown accustomed to - but I added it to my queue and hit play. So glad I did! It hooked me from the beginning. It was well-paced and informative; very well written, too. It did a great job transporting me to another place and time and immersing me in that environment. It was also chock-full of enlightening details about the time period. While I already knew a good number of the facts, it distinguished itself by the concept - you’re the protagonist! This has elevated the form by letting the humanity break through, an achievement lacking in many typical narrative podcasts. If I’m this gushy about episode 2, I can’t wait to see how it grows and matures in future episodes. I’m thrilled I found it. Commence binging!

    Worth listening to.
The idea is akin to the TV show Sliders from the 90s. Except in this concept it’s monetized. Explore the multiverse. See what could have happened in history in this well researched and deeply thought through what if stories. (With some off the wall sci-fi possibilities peppered in for good measure… I’m looking at you Blue Dragons.) The supporting characters in almost every story have depth and realism in mind. The world building is top notch. Well done. I just skip the ones read by Field, the story delivery is unlistenable. The intonation of each sentence grates somewhere in the Venn diagram between whining and overacting and smug self-satisfaction. Like nails on a chalkboard for me.

    Imaginative historical sci-fi
This podcast is amazing. The stories are consistently imaginative, each being inspired by a little kernel of an alternate-history idea that is wonderfully fleshed out by talented writers. Great production and sound effects as well. The episodes ranges from good to utterly astounding! Keep up the great work!

    Used to be great
Was looking forward to the return of the best author only to hear that he is going to be censored because everything has to be woke. Making my overcrowded podcast listening schedule less crowded. Bye👋

Fascinating, creative, unique, very well produced
I survive on audio books and podcasts. As a history nerd this one caught my interest when I heard an advertisement on another podcast. I was apprehensive but curious at first. But once I started I literally could not stop listening. The Romano Saxon War series is by far my favorite for a few reasons, it’s long, I LOVE British history even if it’s fiction lol, and the series was just incredibly well written and produced. I can’t wait to buy the book. That series was incredible. And I really love the twist that was fully revealed at the end of the series, but I won’t give that away. As for the rest of the show, it is by far the most interesting and creative podcast I’ve ever listened to. Podcasts like History on Fire and Martyr Made and Hardcore History and, one of my favorites, The Pirate History Podcast, are all absolutely incredible. But The Twilight Histories throws a wrench into the spokes and the result is this crazy world (or worlds as it were lol) of bits of history that you know, but with really fascinating fictional twists. Plus with the way they write it, it’s almost like you are there, experiencing it for yourself. Living the life of someone in that time and world. That right there is huge for me, it draws me into the story, it’s engaging, and I love it. And I really love how they have multiple writers writing for the show. Jordon Harbour is an incredible writer and narrator, but part of the fun of the show is the slightly different styles you get with each writer. And not just in the writing but in the narrating as well. It makes for a slightly different experience in every episode you listen to, even if the basic premise is the same. And I really love how Jordan Harbour involves the contributing listeners. They can literally help create a show in ways. This might be the first podcast I actually give money to because it’s just that good. I’m not one to write a book in a review, however this podcast absolutely deserves it. The amount of time, effort, and research that goes into each episode is incredible. I highly recommend this podcast, you will not be disappointed. 5 out of 5 for sure. Can’t wait for more episodes to come out.

    Best way to escape
Great podcast. This is the most immersive experience I’ve encountered in years. The historical twists are well thought out and the step by step doesn’t overwhelm. Note: Rings….mist: description has “discovered” as “discovred” but whatevs😎; world-builders are allowed to make mistakes. Stay Goat.

    An absolute gem!
I am a relatively new patron of this fantastic podcast. I can’t believe I’ve stumbled upon it after a decade in production. I must admit it’s been fun catching up on all the stories. This is storytelling at its finest which proves one does not need multiple voice actors and over the top production to put out a good work of fiction. When it’s done right, all one needs is an excellent voice actor accompanied by complementary ambient sound and your imagination. I particularly enjoy the various talented authors who contribute to the podcast but my hands down favorite is the original mastermind of this successful endeavor. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

Some of the best writing and storytelling anywhere!
As the title states, the writing at the twilight histories is first rate. Now not every story is captivating, but the vast majority of them are and many are so good you can’t stop listening. I think my all time favorite is the Winged Victory. I also really liked the Sunken City. The most recent (Blue Dragons) is one of the best. It’s a slightly different genre than anything else out there, a little history, a little audio drama and a little horror, depending on the story. Jordan and team run a down home type of podcast here, like your local bakery that is owned by the baker and makes the best pastries in town. It’s not that polished and not that well known, but once you are in, you are hooked. Now I do wish Jordan would team up with some voice actors from NoSleep or maybe get to know Pacific Obadiah and his voice actors, as I feel that would take this podcast to the next level. The writing is better than the voice acting. But we can’t have it all and it is worth it. Highly recommended.

Update - can't stop thinking about this podcast
I still don't know what to think of this podcast. It draws me in that is for certain, but it is incredibly dark and dare I say disturbing. I have to say I am frustrated about the subscription model. I would gladly pay ala carte for many episodes. Despite this I did subscribe for the Dark Histories episodes. These are all incredibly unique. Three are among the best podcasts I have ever listed to and Ihave over 4,000 podcasts on my computer! The three are: Ancient Africa, Edge of the Earth and Hiroshima. Of the three Ancient Africa is astounding. First, I wish Harbour would put out a complete audio rendition of Herodotous. Nobody has made these stories so accessible and truly enchanting. I would pay $100 at least for this! An essential component of this is Harbour's music and audio. It is beyond perfect and I wish I knew how he did it. Does he produce the music himself, use existing music or both? Does he have a sound studio? From ancient instruments to what seems to be synthesized music and sounds, it is absolute perfection. Oh, another Dark History episdoe that is quite intriguing is Gulag, but sadly I have read the actualy story/book this is based on was fabricated.

    Good Research & Delivery
Don’t let the name of this podcast prevent a listen to this well researched & delivered podcast. I love the length of them as well...I will normally be affected in my own choices by subject, length, & flow of the delivery. I don’t much care for the name but i am impressed by all else. Most compelling subjects are covered. Good job!

    Histories is a Hit!
I’ve downloaded this podcast on my iPhone and Android tablet and I love it! I have my favorites like “Winged Victory”, and I’ve even told my friends and family about the show. Here’s hoping Histories will repeat itself with its fun listener-character interaction and creative storytelling.

    Love this podcast
Of all the podcasts I listen to this has to be my favorite. There is nothing better than a long drive with the Twilight Histories playing. It appeals to both my love of history and vivid imagination. I cannot recommend this podcast highly enough.

    Solid show
The narrator is excellent, however he brings in guest narrators and the podcast gets a little sloppy. Great show when Jordan has it to himself though!

    Great voice, great stories
I fell in lose with quite a few stories in this series. He took a break for a while which was sad..I almost forgot about it and then new episodes just recently started popping up! I hope he continues. His voice is amazing, even if he’s not always telling his own stories.

    Great history podcast!
This podcast is really good, it gives you a different view of what an alternative world would look like. I strongly recommend it if you like a spin on history.

A True Mastery of Short Story and Perspective
I finally gave this a shot due to the rave reviews from the “Rumor Flies” podcasters. I guess my disappointment in the last few years of fiction novels left me a little skeptical of a story-telling podcast- but here I have found stories so well-crafted I would have guessed the stories were winners of literary awards! As a writer and avid reader myself, I know the “curse” of writing in second-person perspective, how difficult it is to read and write in it- but these stories show a true mastery of a perspective most readers/writers may dread. It is so thrilling to come across INCREDIBLY well written stories that are also read in fantastic manner. Bravo, bravo, bravo!! I’d love to see a story with a female protagonist- it doesn’t bother me that most of the protagonists are male, I just think it would be an interesting element for the right story. Keep it up! My faith in modern literature is renewed!

I love history and alternate worlds. This is the best combination of both ever. I started with lore and found your channel soon after. I hope this becomes a mainstream phenomena. I’ll post and share it as much as I can. Keep going at it.

Great stories - bad dramatic reading and formatting
First, I want to say that I love the ideas and stories themselves. These are truly imaginative and entertaining alternate histories that do not rely purely on formulaic ideas. "Winged Victory" was excellent. My only complaint is that sometimes the audio itself can sound a bit like a overly dramatic soap opera. Long pauses and misplaced emphasis. In addition, I love the background audio, but sometimes the pauses between sentences (45 seconds?) is a bit of overkill. Once again, the stories are great, but the dramatic reading and audio layout can be severely lacking.
  • FreddySamrickson
    The best audio drama around
This show is unlike anything else I've ever heard. For it to be a one man show, but be able to create such an engrossing show with such fantastic, rich world-building involved, is simply astonishing. I am so happy I found this show, and can't wait to listen to every episode. If you are in need of true escapism, there is nothing I can recommend higher than spending sometime with the twilight histories.

Fun concept. Good storytelling. Well crafted supporting audio. Even without the interesting historical perspective these are well told stories and are worth a try.
  • Dead Ideas
    Creepy, Weird, Awesome
What would it feel like to live in a world where the Egyptian dynasties never fell, or the Aztecs acquired steel? Such alternate histories provide the backdrop for these dark and gritty stories. Jordan shares his imagination and reads with a compelling voice. While I wish the show would explore more of the alternate history angle (e.g. what would the historical consequences be if the Aztecs really did get steel?), that's not really what the show was ever supposed to be about. The real concept is right there in the title: Twilight Histories. It's like history, but in the Twilight Zone.
  • Taylor Pl
    Well produced and great concepts
Particularly enjoy how well the show producer synthesizes different historical accounts into an alternate history timeline. One of the best fiction podcasts I've ever listened to!
