There are a lot of fads, blogs and strong opinions, but then there’s SCIENCE. Science Vs is the show from Gimlet that finds out what’s fact, what’s not, and what’s somewhere in between. We do the hard work of sifting through all the science so you don't have to and cover everything from 5G and Pandemics, to Vaping and Fasting Diets.

Please read “Used to be a balanced show”
That review is what I felt this episode was about.

Update old shows with new scientific evidence.
Especially, the COVID virus lab leak theory episode. Reduce laughing too much on the show when presenting critical scientific information . Trying to be silly sometimes isn’t funny. However, I like the show and it’s better than grumpy Science Friday .

    Love This!
I absolutely love this podcast! It’s not a pop science show, but instead actually speaks with researchers and delves into actual science. It’s also fun to hear how many citations they use in each episode.

Used to be a balanced show.
The show used to be good at showing both sides of an issue. However, after their episode on Trans-children and the Cass Report they decided to favor the ‘Pro-Gender-Affirming’ side of the issue, and mis-represent some of the finer and far reaching points of the Cass Report. Not only did they not cover the origins of why the Cass report came about (because of Tavistock Clinic scandal), but also voluntary choose to not cover some of the larger and more profound issues revealed in the report. Such as of the sources of the recent rise of Gender Dysmorphia issues in children, especially teen girls. The fact the rates of suicide with trans-gender issue tend to include comorbidity with other mental health issues. And the fact that many teenage kids who identify as transgender tend to grow out of it as they reach adult hood and just accept they are only same-sex attracted and just gender-non-conforming. In all the episode was a disappointment. I have unsubscribed from the podcast because the lack journalistic integrity in covering this topic makes me doubtful the podcast is worth continuing remaining staying subscribed too.

Entertaining show, but listen with skepticism as you should any show
I’ve listened to this show off and on from the beginning. I think Wendy is an entertaining and good host. The angelic sound of heaven at the beginning of the show that science is the real arbiter of truth is kind of funny. The problem is I think Wendy and her team really think they are objectively revealing scientific truths to the listener. They are journalists providing a few studies and interviews with selected scientists/researchers to convey a particular message. Early in the podcast they seemed to be making more of a good faith effort to objectively share complex information. Lately the tone has gotten much more casual and the messages more ideological than “following the data”. One of my favorite moments from the podcast reveals human bias and contradicts the idea they are presenting truth free of human emotion and bias. Wendy is interviewing Andrew Huberman and flexing on him that her scientific standards are higher than his because she doesn’t support taking vitamin supplements and he does. He flexes back that he has a larger audience than she does. Huberman’s advocacy of supplements can and should be challenged, but it should be done with facts and studies instead of an ego based flex, and if she really wants to make a difference and make him reconsider his opinions, the facts and studies would be presented in a fair manner. Attacking someone’s ego or playing “gotcha” will only entrench the other in their ideas. Pretty good show that has gone downhill. Worth a listen but with a very healthy dose of skepticism.

    Woke?
The trans episode was a bit much for me. Based on how the host and the guests talked I found it hard to believe that they were being objective researches although I know very little regarding to subject.

    Now with more bias!
I’ve listened to this for many years. Used to be 5 stars but now just 2. This used to be a really good podcast but they’ve lost a lot of their unbiased approach that made the show so good for so long. It is pretty obvious now that for many topics they have made up their mind what outcome to report before they even start the research. They pick only studies/results that back their opinion. Recent example is them sighting a study that followed mental health of kids for 3 MONTHS as proof of “their side” but ignored the studies that followed kids for 3+ YEARS. If an episode is not too political or divisive then they seem to “stick to the facts” and those are ok to listen to.

    Missed a key point
I just listened to the most recent podcast which was about revisiting research related to treating trans kids. I think the authors did an admirable job at revisiting but made a logical mistake by asserting, “the conclusions must be true because the data shows this.” There are many problems with this from a scientific rational point of view. For example, the data could be too narrow for generalized conclusions or that in different experimental circumstances the data would be repeatable let alone result in the same conclusions. I think the authors failed to follow the core tenant of experimental research, falsifiability. This is the construct that theories can only be proven false, not true. And, those theories not able to be proven false are not scientific.

    Trans Kids
Amazing how the host and guests have such confidence that kids can actually make a decision on what they really want in life Well the data they mentioned on adults transitioning may have some validity for adults, it is clear that kids have no concept of what they’re doing and should not be allowed to make permanent life altering decisions. The woke politics (lab leak, transitioning, existential climate, etc) is ruining the show
  • Create nickname (silly)
    Not objective science
I have lost trust in the show. Anyone who has actually looked at the Cass report will see just how biased and dishonest the show has become. Please do look for yourself. They willfully misrepresent the Cass report and rely on studies that the report found were low quality. Google the show and you’ll find the same criticism of the show’s bias spanning many years. The fact that the show thought they could discredit the Cass Report—a review that was conducted over 4 years with great academic integrity—in one 40 min podcast tells you that the people behind Science Vs are not serious people.

    Trans episode is laughable
They REALLY want your kid to use puberty blockers. So weird. The hosts have no interest in asking why so many kids are suddenly trans. Gee, could it be a trend? Gosh, does TikTok influence young people? No way. This is not a serious podcast but I listen in order to understand how the left think. Its just upsetting that even when it comes to kids, the priority of these hosts is the leftist agenda, not a kids' wellbeing. There are trans kids, obviously. But to choose to look the other way and pretend they are all trans, and its definitely not a trend, social media and lonliness doesnt play a part, and yes we should pump them with experimental drugs -- is so wrong.

    Sex survey 😕
I love your show. I could listen to you read the phone book but I don’t have to cuz you have amazing science stuff to talk about. So when you said you needed help with a survey I thought I would do my part. But anal sex? Seriously?!? Nothing but? No pun intended. Love ya Wendy but yuk on the survey. Five stars though cuz the show is great and I don’t want to mess up any algorithms ❤️🦎🎉

    Host is unbearable
The banter is pointless and irritating. There’s no wit, just inane jokes that don’t land and it’s become a distraction from the content which is usually interesting in theory. So cringe. Can’t listen.
  • Ekatok
    Are these hosts high?
Topics are interesting but I cannot listen to this podcasts. Are hosts high or something? They giggle like they are smoking pot in a college dorm. Totally inappropriate for the serious topics and also very annoying to listen to for a grown up person. And The Journal should not have put an episode of this amateur show into their feed.

    Awful Show
Pushed onto me by the WSJ The Journal that I listen to daily, I eagerly listened to the Ozempic episode but literally had to turn it off 15 min in. I wished I turned it off earlier. The hosts are not impartial, excessively opinionated, drown out the actual science, make unprofessional jokes, and are plain dislikable. I personally found the strong Australian accent grating as well. Will never listen again. Terrible stuff.
  • Arete01
    Good topics but unlistenable
The banter is witless, tasteless, pointless and self-absorbed. Interesting topics and thoughtful guests are unfortunately totally undermined by the banal host and reporter.

    Refrain from the…
I’ve loved this podcast from the start & listened to every episode. One thing I noticed that it’s gotten a lot raunchier lately. Which I find unnecessary, also I can’t listen with my young kids around so that’s annoying. All that said I still love the premise and topics.
  • Jerry21R
    Losing interest
Early episodes were interesting and more science based. Some episodes have some immature “naughty” humor and silly banter which doesn’t offend but is just not needed. Funniest Joke episode is best example.

    Used to follow this poscast
I really liked this podcast, but new season released in 2024, especially episodes from mid-March to May are awful. The funniest joke was waste of time and heartbreak was repetitive. @Wendy, you don’t need to get the hosts of popular podcasts to co-host with you. You were on a right track. Take it back to the glory days!

    Used to love this show
Used to love this show and looked forward to every new episode. The last episode about the funniest joke is a COMPLETE miss. This is science, start another podcast if you want to do other topics. The host has also started drinking her own koolaid, she’s the only one finding these jokes funny (in every episode) but she’s just chatting more and more of each episode, while saying umm every other word. Looking for something new.

    Grating
I like the topics, the way they’re discussed in layman’s terms, the casual convo style this often takes, but I’m one of those unfortunate people who find it very hard to ignore a voice I don’t enjoy; so after giving it ~6 episodes, I can’t listen anymore. The host’s speaking style reminds me of forced speech patterns (I tried to mitigate by just listening at a lower volume so that certain things weren’t as noticeable) but in the manner of someone who’s VERY into their narration. I’m distracted while listening b/c I’m thinking her whole delivery needs dialed back a couple of notches. But that’s obviously subjective.

    Hormone Episode
I really enjoy this podcast. I wish that during the hormone balancing episode when they were talking about testosterone, they would have mentioned PCOS. When they were discussing some of the symptoms of women taking additional testosterone, there should have been a mention. For anyone that doesn’t know, PCOS is a condition in which women produce more testosterone than normal. I struggle with the condition, and many people are unaware of it. In addition to the mention or hair thinning, some other side effects of my condition are facial hair growth, acne, weight gain, and inability to lose weight.
  • Belijane13
    Hormone episode was disappointing
I mostly love this show, but the hormone episode was disappointing by mostly focusing on testosterone and men issues (as if most research is not already focused on men issues while women’s health is under researched and highlighted). I know they have a time limit and they can’t cover everything, but still. How they do better and extend on this topic side there is sooo much to cover here.

    Great Podcast
What I love: Presentation and discussion of the topics with science. I like that Wendy does a CONCLUSION summary at the end of each segment. Use of interviews with experts Wendy’s accent! There’s nothing wrong with her voice, imo. What I dislike: Ads. But that’s it, really. This is one of the most entertaining and engaging science podcasts that I’ve found.

    YALL CAN SHUT UP
I like to read the reviews some times to see people’s opinions and I just read a bit of the reviews and I saw that people were crapping on Wendy’s voice. Not only do I think that’s a terrible reason to rate this podcast poorly, but your also making fun of her for lines not hitting or her voice sounding a little bit annoying! The only lower ratings I have seen are about her voice! I think it’s very rude and disrespectful to give a bad rating because of the way the host sounds if you’re going to give a bad rating make it reasonable! I kinda like her voice! It can stay just the way it is. - VERY angry

    A Great Podcast!

    I love the host
I don’t usually leave reviews but I saw that some were complaining about Wendy’s laughter and irreverence and I have to say I Love it—it makes learning about the science fun and is one of the reasons I turn to this podcast over other ones. So in the off chance producers are reading this—Wendy is great, please don’t listen to the complainers!

Great show but please edit out the annoying banter and giggling.
I love the content of this show. I also love the topics and how they choose ones that are currently relevant. I also love that it is evidence-based and that the sources are always listed for us. I also like that it always takes on a variety of perspectives, even those I may not have agreed with. However, can you all please edit out the nonsense banter and all the giggling? It’s SO annoying. Wendy seems to think everything is hilarious... it’s really not. A different host would be great. But at the least, please just edit that garbage out. Even the other people on the recording seem to pause like, “Can we just get on with it?”
  • TheRealDoomBurger
    Haters gonna hate
It really seems like someone on reddit or TikTok rallied a bunch of people to come onto here and complain about Wendy’s voice. Wendy is very passionate about science, and she’s easily excitable. And she’s an Aussie so I guess for those who struggle with accents, maybe it’s hard for them. But I find her enthusiasm very charming. I’ve listened to Science Vs. since the beginning. Back when it was still on Gimlet… I think maybe the first season was before Gimlet? Anyway, I have always loved their show. BUT. I have to say, the more recent episodes have not been as good. And when I say more recent, I mean since they moved to Spotify. I’m so disappointed they interviewed Andrew Huberman. Sure he’s a “bad boy turned scientist” who sells this notion that we can control our bodies at the cellular level. He was “grilled” on the show, but let’s be real: his presence on this show detracts from its credibility. They used to have this great structure where they’d address a controversial topic and then break down some key insights from peer reviewed literature. But now it’s very different and it does seem like they cherry pick based on their personal biases more than they used to. They’re also not super receptive to feedback. I am a scientist and I challenged them on an episode and their response to my email was defensive and not open to the conversation. The show has become less about science and more about entertainment. I guess that’s pretty normal, but its unfortunate for those like me who felt pretty seen when they first launched the show many many years ago. I still listen to the show. I still share it with friends. I still enjoy it, but gosh.. I miss when they were less influenced by what Daddy Spotify wants them to do.

    Love the pod AND Wendy!
How dare you come for my girl Wendy. This is hands down one of my favorite podcasts. I love her voice and her laughter. I love the science and how it’s presented. I’m sorry you’re so ethnocentric that you can’t handle her accent and so boring you can’t listen to someone laughing. Never change, Wendy! We love you.

    Manipulative voice. Too distracting.
Otherwise fantastic information, pace and rapport. Once you get into the topic the “This is the absolute funniest thing you’ve ever heard” voice tone settles down to normal. So if you’re like me and can’t stand to be bossed around by someone’s voice, fast forward over all the intro conversation, to the actually interesting show!!

    Constructive Feedback on Podcast Laughter
I wanted to reach out and express my appreciation for the insightful content you provide on your podcast. The discussions are engaging and informative, and I can see how they appeal to a wide audience. However, I wanted to share some feedback regarding Wendy's laughter. While I understand laughter can be a natural part of conversation, I find that Wendy's laughter sometimes feels out of context and overly exuberant. It can be a bit distracting, almost as if she's under the influence. I believe toning down the laughter or ensuring it aligns more closely with the context of the conversation could enhance the overall listening experience. Thank you for considering my feedback. I look forward to continuing to enjoy your podcast.
