Another Mother Runner

1,183

A family of three podcasts to get (+ keep) you moving without losing your family, job, or sanity! Nearly 1,000 (!) back episodes to enjoy.

Every Friday on the original show (launched in 2011), host Sarah Bowen Shea, a mom of three and veteran of 14 marathons, is joined by a rotating cast of co-hosts and often a guest expert to discuss topics ranging from how to reach a big race goal to finding your athletic happy place, and everything in between. Training, nutrition, motivation, mental toughness, TMI issues: This show covers it all (and then some!).

Many Happy Miles and AMR Answers drop on alternate Tuesdays: Many Happy Miles is hosted by AMR co-founder Dimity McDowell and Sarah Wassner Flynn, and it celebrates and explores all types of forward movement, whether an epic hike, century ride, or your first brisk walk after a setback. The co-founding duo of Sarah and Dimity host AMR Answers, providing insightful responses to listeners’ called-in questions. All three shows are witty and conversational, making them great running partners because the AMR gals do all the talking—even on the uphills!

    Another Mother Runner
Loving episode with Katie Arnold. I loved the recall from first time Interviewed the birds 🦅 singing! I remember that episode! Also as a Portland native love that Katie ran in forest park. Such a great interview and so inspiring!

    Great support and motivation
This is one of regular go-to podcasts for when I’m running or walking the dog. It’s not just about running! And it’s not just for moms! They celebrate all forms of movement in whatever amount of time someone has for it. They offer support and advice with honesty and humor. And they bring in experts on so many different topics.

    Runners alike
I love listening to this podcast while I’m out on a long run especially if I’m running solo that day. The conversations are always witty and fun to learn about new things, and hear new or similar perspectives.
  • Been using it for over a year
    My favorite running podcast
I’ve listened to a number of running podcasts and I always come back to this one. I’m not even a mother but I enjoy all the BAMRs. It feels like home with SBS and Dimity and the host of other hosts. It is very informative with interesting topics but it also feels like a group of friends talking about a common interest. I realize I don’t know Sarah but I enjoy hearing about what’s going on in her life and it truly feels like I know these ladies. Really I just had to say thank you for keeping me entertained and educated for years. If you haven’t listened to this podcast you need to subscribe now. You won’t regret it.

My favorite podcast to listen to on a run!
I feel like these ladies are my friends at this point! Love this show! Great topics and advice for all levels.

    Enough with the Pickle Ball!
i have been a long time listener. I am at my breaking point with SBS pickle ball talk. It is beyond annoying and had gotten worse over time. Please stop or start a pickle ball podcast. i am about to unsubscribe and so are many of my long time listener friends. i can’t recommend anymore because of the pickle ball factor. It is too hard to get past for a first time listener.

Marathon edition podcast - destination races
Wow, just talking about destination marathons across the nation or around the world really got me motivated and I wanted to research which race I wanted to do next. It would be really awesome to have a similar podcast with triathlons too. I really enjoyed this AMR trains podcast.

    It used to be better
I’ve been a listener since 2012. It was definitely better in the beginning.

    Highly recommend
This podcast has kept me company for a decade on short runs, long runs and everything in between. I’ve trained for several distance races listening to Sarah and Dimity gab in my ear and it feels like I’m running with my good friends. As a long time listener it’s also been great to listen as our children have gone from tinies to almost grown and flown. It’s been so relevant and I’m grateful for their honesty, camaraderie and reality.
  • RunFree212
    Mostly enjoyable
It gets a bit repetitive over the years and the ads are way too much. But I mostly enjoy the topics and hosts, particularly SBS.

    Listener for life!
Loving your show! No matter the guest, I am always captivated. Your easy going, conversational style interviews allow the listener to get to know the person and the athlete/ coach etc. Loved the Boston series as well! Adrianne Haslett's interview was fantastic!

Thanks for having Allison on your program
Recognizing women runners are not all white or CIS gender or heterosexual is an important step forward. One foot in front of the other moves us all.

My lifeline to other mother runners
I don’t have a BRF so I take this podcast on the run and smile through my miles as Sarah, Dimity, and their variety of cohosts talk about all kinds of topics. AMR answers is my favorite because it feels like I’m hanging out with old friends who give good pointers while telling stories from their own adventures. It feels like we’re hanging out and their relatability is inspiring!

    Best Running Friends
I have been listening to the AMR podcast since 2018. I also bought the AMR books. Sarah and Dimity are authentic, funny and relatable. I run solo, so this podcast keeps me company on long runs. They share their personal race experiences, give training advice and interview some inspiring people. Thank you for all you do in inspiring women everywhere!

    Listen while you run!
Always inspiring. Entertaining and I almost always learn something. Listening is great motivation to get out the door!

    Fun and love the format
Really appreciate the down to earth and real way this podcast delivers information. Thank you!

    Love.
Great podcast hosted by intelligent, athletic mothers. Interesting topics, funny stories, and “my people” every time. Great to run to or yo listen to while I work from home.

    Don’t change!
This is such a great podcast! Love all of the real life topics they cover. It seems like most other running podcasts just have a continuous string of elite athletes on their show. Which can be great on occasion but just not very relatable to most of us. I love hearing about how everyday moms incorporate running into their lives and the tips/great advice they give-so inspiring!!
  • Another O'Leary from Boston
    Love love love (but...)
Can you please tone it down with the Dipsy ads? I’m not a prude (but I am a New Englander), yet my reach for the fast forward button has not been fast enough when my littles have been in the room. Not sure why “sexy time” needs to be part of a running pod. (But, hey— still 5 stars because I love you guys)

    Fabulous for ALL Runners
I was just recently introduced to this podcast and at first I was worried as I’m a fur mom, not a human mom, I might not be able to relate. I was sooo wrong. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PODCASTS EVER! I have binged listened to all the Answers and Trains episodes. Now I’m listening to episodes that spark my interest. I have learned so much as a newer runner. I’ve also laughed, cried and everything in between. This is for ANY runner. Love you ladies. Keep up the great work!!!

    Like Running with your BRF
The podcast always tackles relevant and timely topics. Listening to Sarah, Dimity, and their co-hosts share their own experiences makes you feel like you are in the company of your best running friend. LIstening to this podcast while on my weekly long run always makes the miles fly by...no matter my pace! If you are looking for a dependable podcast to help get you out the door or onto your treadmill...give this one a try!
  • sara - runner and mother
    Great tips and entertaining hosts
This podcast is fantastic! As a mother and a runner I have benefitted from so much of the advice offered on this podcast! The topics are fresh and the hosts have so much to offer their listeners! Highly recommend!

Favorite podcast as a mom and runner!
Sarah and Dimity are my constant companions on my run, especially when I have to run on the treadmill. Their topics are so relatable, their chatter with each other and their guests make me feel like I’m part of the conversation. I love the variety of episodes from the varying topics to AMR answers to AMR trains. If you are a mother runner you need AMR on your podcast list!

    Inspirational & Comforting
Listening to this podcast makes me excited to be a runner, but more importantly, it makes me excited to be a mom. I’ve always feared taking that next step into motherhood, but listening to these awesome, strong, brave women talk about tackling the highs and lows of parenting while still maintaining their identities as runners and professionals shows me I can do it, too.
  • rosen45
    AMR
I’m not a mom but I just love the hosts-Dimity and Sarah and all the other awesome hosts. I feel like we are sitting at the kitchen table over a cup of coffee talking about running and fitness. Thank you, ladies!

    Desperate for Advertising?
Ok-I have been a faithful listener and supporter of this pod and their books-but this weeks advertisement of -well-Audio Porn-has put me over the edge! Do you know your audience? What the Freak SbS/Dimity? TBH this pod has been on a slow decline since the addition of Maggie-who truly is not funny and only does Orange Theory Fitness. Ummm ok...?

    Needs More Diversity
I've followed AMR since the beginning and have enjoyed the advice Sarah and Dimity offer to mother runners. However, they could use more diversity with their hosts and guests. It would be nice to regularly hear from experts, hosts, and mothers from a variety of backgrounds as it would be more reflective of the true mother runner community.

Took me from a 10K to the Boston Marathon
I dearly love this podcast and the whole AMR community. Back in 2014 I discovered AMR and did their Proved It 10K Challenge. Wow, what an adventure that unleashed! Since then I've run everything from 5Ks to marathons. I even qualified for, and was accepted into, the 2020 Boston Marathon. At age 60! (And I'm planning to stay at it, so that I actually get to run Boston post-pandemic.) I listen to this podcast every week and can't say enough good things about Sarah, Dimity, and all my sister BAMRs around the world.

    A connection I didn’t realize I was craving
I was a runner before having my first baby and have listened to running podcasts for several years. But as I labored through those first miles coming back after baby (and yes, it was a different kind but still a laboring effort), my normal podcasts just weren’t as motivating. When I found AMR, I found so many things: connection to other runners just like me, understanding and compassion about how to run with kids and the physical, mental and emotional struggles that accompany that, and hope that I could still do this sport that I love even though my world had drastically changed. There were moments out on a run that I had to walk for a minute because I was choked up with emotion from merely feeling like there were other runners out there who get me and my mother runner struggles. And listening to Sarah and Dimity and the BAMR community helped me see that even though I’m in the middle (let’s be honest, beginning) of the baby years, I can enjoy running now, and my running can continue to evolve as my family grows and grows up.

    My people
When I found Another Mother Runner I felt like I’d finally found my people. Love listening to this show and love how it’s geared closer to me than some other more elite-focused running podcasts. Keep up the fun listens!
  • Lextarver
    My favorite podcast!
I am a huge fan of AMR and I’m so thankful I stumbled across this podcast years ago. Sarah and Dimity, and the AMR community are a great asset to my running life. And I absolutely love when Molly cohosts!
  • Tgirl40
    Love
I am a longtime runner and a mother of teenagers and have been listening since my kids were little and the podcast was first recorded. I love the guests and mother runners that are interviewed, and the interesting topics keep me listening every week, including book reviews! Even when my mileage diminished after 18 years of running, the voices of Dimity, Sarah, Amanda, and the others encouraged me to get back on track and increase mileage during CO-VID 19. Thanks so much ladies!
  • Trail hound
    Friendly advice
I love listening to the stories of the hosts’ running and their guests’ insights. TMI parts are so relatable! AMR is always on my playlist for long runs. Only suggestion would be to maybe offer more for advanced/experienced runners.
  • Emonahan89
    My favorite podcast
Even as a runner without kids, this has been my favorite podcast for years. I always save AMR episodes for my weekend long runs!
  • Erin Gilli
Thanks for talking to real runners
I enjoy several podcasts and while they’re all wonderful, I enjoy their real world approach approach to running. They have busy lives like most of us normal runners with jobs, kids and life in general.
  • IA Listener 35
    Love these women
I found this podcast a few years ago when I just started running. Their wisdom, humor and support of mother runners helped this mom of two toddlers feel okay about taking time to invest in myself, persists when life got rough and feel like I have a whole group of friends in this same situation with me and they are cheering me on. I look forward to each episode. Thank you for doing what you two do. You address changing lives.

The running friends I’ve never had.
I’ve been running my entire life, but never had any close friends that enjoyed it like I do, or a running group. AMR is the first time I’ve gotten to experience listening to other mothers like myself tell their experiences and it’s been amazing! I look forward to every podcast! Thank y’all for being the running “friends” that I’ve never had!!
  • Di18846
    My favorite running podcast
This is my favorite running podcast. The hosts are down to earth and yet inspiring. I relate to the topics they cover and learn something every time.

    A Must Listen
I’ve listened since the beginning and the podcast just keeps getting better. Informative, fun, full of variety, and just plain real. It’s a weekly companion on my runs, and a tribe that “gets me” as a mother runner.

    What more can I say?!
You already know I love ya!

    Why I love running
Well spoken guests who were willing to share intimate stories that were relatable. Hosts were fluent in keeping conversation and transitions smooth

    Thank you!
Podcast virgin here! I have to admit I’ve never had the desire to listen to any podcasts but I was drawn to this one because I’m a mother runner. I just listened to “Why I Love Running” and absolutely loved it. It’s as if they knew all the struggles I am currently going through with my own running. It made me realize I’m not the only one with doubts and struggles even though I love running. I can’t wait to listen to more!!!
  • Erin in Braintree
    My favorite podcast!
I have been listening for years and can’t believe I’ve never left a review. Sarah and Dimity (and now Molly, Adrienne, producer Alex and the crew!) feel like old friends that have been with me through pregnancies, postpartum and now even navigating the teen years. My running-specific training has been mixed with other exercise through the years, but the variety of advice always helps keep me moving. Thank you for the years of “friendship” and I look forward to many more!

    Early morning routines-#399
Love this podcast and love what u had to say about morning routines. I felt like I did each and every one of those things just in my own way. I love to either read, mediated or journal before my run with a cup of coffee of course. That way I can let it digest to of course take my morning poop then out the door. I have 3 kids from 8-13 years old. So mornings are my everything. Before I head to work. And Hubby takes care of the kids in the morning, I’m on afternoon duty. It all works out. Thank u again for making such a great podcast that’s so relatable to moms who work and run.
  • Becccamaee
    Funny, informative, inspirational
This is one of my favorite podcasts. I’m not a mother, but I’ve been running for a few years and have learned so much through this podcast! I love the information and interviews packaged with a lot of humor and relatable stories. I probably wouldn’t still be a runner if not for this podcast and the inspiration and information I get from my weekly listens!
  • AshleyCycle
    No longer interested
I was loving this show for quite some time. Recently, majority of the episodes are long advertisements for their running groups laced with information I can peruse on Google. I’m already part of a running club and don’t need a new one. Unfortunately, I’ll be taking a break from this podcast. ✌🏻

    My Fav
This podcast is one of my favs—practical, hilarious, light-hearted but full of excellent wisdom and advice. They manage to inspire me without any guilt or pressure. And they are so darn relatable as moms. Just excellent!!

    Loved this!
I am a mixed practice veterinarian and a runner and just stated listening to these podcasts. Loved this one especially and ordering Chris’ book❤️👍🏻🏃🏼‍♀️

    AMR = BRF
I found AMR in 2016 when I was pregnant with my first baby. Since then, I have been a loyal listener and the podcast has kept me company on too many runs to count through both my pregnancies and my journey into motherhood and back to running. Thank you, AMR for the great content and company.
