Arts #110Books #36

Founded in 2017, The Losers’ Club® is an award-winning weekly series that chronologically digs through the work of Stephen King with humor, irreverence, and a critical eye. Each episode, the Losers gather together to read between the iconic pages and share the latest in King’s Dominion, whether it’s the author’s oft-controversial tweets, the boldest Hollywood headlines, or his endless forthcoming projects. The series also regularly features special guests. In the past, the Losers have spoken to Mike Flanagan, Thomas Jane, Tananarive Due, Chapo Trap House, Owen Teague, Mick Garris, Mary Lambert, Jerry O’Connell, Wil Wheaton, Joe Bob Briggs, and even King himself.

Suitable for readers both Constant and casual. King says check us out.

    Love this show!
So glad I discovered the show after reading Under the Dome. When it ended, I needed more, and found this show. I loved it so much that I'm now rereading SK books. I'd never reread a book until this podcast, and now I look forward to the hosts' detailed discussion of the book!

    Love it!
Live all the hosts and great insight into King books

    Chatter Chatter Chatter
This is one of those podcasts where the hosts chatter on and on and on and on and on before FINALLY getting to the topic and then chatter on some more and then back to the topic, rinse and repeat.

Do they even like Stephen King?
I tried to give this show a chance and check out the Stand episodes, and the entire 3 parts are just them critiquing King’s writing and joking about it. Odd show.

Could not listen to the 11/22/63 episode
I was hoping they’d just talk about the book and keep away from the conspiracy stuff but they couldn’t help themselves. I get it, you want to plug your bonus episode. Do it once and maybe again at the end. But no. They kept bringing up the conspiracy stuff. I had to stop listening, it got really annoying. It’d be like reviewing United 93 and constantly bringing up 9/11 conspiracies.

Feels like these are my best friends and we’ve never met…
I look so forward to tuning in each week to the losers club and gathering with my fellow King aficionados and weirdos of the world. It gives me a very wonderful sense of community and camaraderie in this very lonely world. Thank you

    Awesome Show!
I 100% recommend this podcast for any Stephen King fan! I love this show!

    Great podcast
Easily, the best, Stephen king podcast out there. However wish they could go one episode without complaining about Marvel, Star Wars and why certain types of movies aren’t made anymore.

    Don’t get political
I am halfway through the first episode on Carrie and really enjoying the insight and then what I was hoping didn’t happen did. One of the losers (appropriately named) made a comment about President Trump. My advice would be to stick to the theme of the podcast which is to discuss King novels and the movies that come from them and that’s it. Political opinions go on a political podcast. It’s too bad they can’t help themselves to throw in their political opinions because I really wanted to give this a try. 👎🏻

    Great job!
Love the show and thanks for doing it. A small note. The character from the last of us you mentioned in the latest episode is very much also the same type of evil in the video game. I’ve heard a couple people misremember in the same way so just found it interesting.

Pretty awesome people doing a pretty dope Stevie King podcast. They drop a lot of spoilers for other books sometimes and eat on the mic but people are people. As far as people go, these ones are too legit to quit. And those Gerbers are worth their weight in gold. 5 noser

    Gerber brothers
The Gerber brothers make the show. Mac has amazing insight and Justin is hilarious. Worth it for them two alone. Mike Rothman may be the least funniest person who thinks they’re hilarious I’ve ever heard. Even when somebody else makes a joke he has to “one up” them and make their joke “better”. Spoiler - he never does.

    Excellent deep dives
The long, deep dives into Stephen King’s books and the adaptations are extremely informative and entertaining. The pod episodes are rewarding from start to finish.

Exactly what I needed and didn’t know it
Thank you Losers Club for a space to fan girl while sometimes being an over analytical nerd. I so appreciate the deep dives, criticisms, self-awareness, and unapologetic opinions of Sai King’s works. And may I say Randall, (I think it’s you), that laugh is just everything! I can’t imagine the work it takes to do this, so thank you, and keep it up! May all of you enjoy long days and pleasant nights.

    The Best
My #1 favorite podcast discussing my #1 favorite author. From 3 hour discussions of lesser know works to dream castings of future adaptations. I learn, I laugh, and sometimes even the room gets dusty.

The Best Kind of Stephen King Podcast!
I feel like The Losers’ analysis of King’s work is like a perfect twinner to King’s own style: often sprawling, prone to interesting tangents, chock full of interpersonal connections and social wryness, and most importantly, a richness of depth when it comes to seeing how far a particular rabbit hole will go. All this wrapped up in the kind of warm familiarity you’d expect from long-time friends, and you have a recipe for a podcast that basically feels like it came out of a Stephen King novel itself! I seriously can’t even relate to people who don’t love this group and their excellent podcast. :) So if you read Stephen King and feel like you (just like that old Inception meme) need to go deeper, you won’t get any other podcast with analysis as deep as The Loser’s Club. I know, I’ve looked. Long live the Losers!

    My Favorite King Podcast
The Loser’s Club Podcast has really helped me dive into the world of King, a world which I have mainly neglected for most of my life. My first King book I ever read was Pet Semetary 4 years ago, and I found their podcast episode on the book and I was impressed by the deep dive they went into with that episode. After that episode, I was hooked on the show. The hosts really are great friends, and you can tell by the way they speak to one another. Their chemistry is incredible and I LOVE the tangents they jump into, everything from Weezer to Halloween to The Wire. So far I’ve only read 5 King books, but the hosts have me hooked and I’ll continue to listen regardless of me reading the books or not. High recommend from me.

    My favorite podcast!
I LOVE this podcast so much I even joined the Patreon! So worth it, endless hours of King and the gang, you really feel so connected to the podcast members and it’s the best thing ever. Join the Patreon and they’ll chat with you on discord! Such a great community to be a part of, I’m so happy I joined and started listening! Thanks fellow losers!

    Mixed bag
On the one hand I really enjoy the critical analysis. I enjoy the discussion. And I think even if you are a fan of something or someone you don’t have to blindly love all there stuff or everything about it, but I find it hard to believe that some of the so called fans of the Losers Club are fans. Some of the Criticism comes of very snobby. Considering a lot of you do a podcast on popular horror films and seem to enjoy a lot of the one’s people consider to be awful that’s very surprising. Maybe you expect more out of books than movies. I also find the criticism you levy at King about being bloated and staying on topic to be a bit hypocritical. You guys go off on tangents like an unmediated person with ADD (I know a lot about that personally). The final critique I’ll bluntly make is you all as a group are not as funny as you think you are. Sure I’m sure some of your jokes are killer in your group, but they aren’t really that funny to the audience .
  • Instagramer4lyfe
    Annoying
This podcast could be great if the hosts would actually talk about the topic they selected. I’ve listened to so many episodes where they go off on a tangent about crap that has nothing to do with the episode title. It will be 30-45 minutes into an episode and they haven’t even started talking about the book. It’s frustrating.

    Tried to like this podcast…
I really did. Just cannot handle Mel. Why do a King podcast when you obviously do not like his writing or King as a person? She seems like she actually believes herself to be a better writer than King - absolutely pathetic. I would give 0 stars if I could. Kingslingers, Kingcast & Derry Public Radio are far, far superior to this podcast.

    An absolutely EXCELLENT podcast
So I wrote a somewhat negative review some time ago detailing apparent problems I had with the pod. I have no idea what I was complaining about, because after coming back to them, this podcast has been amazing front to back. I find myself agreeing with nearly every host and having a good laugh with each episode. Jenn, Mike, Randall, Dan (both of them!), Justin, Mack, and even less frequent members like Anna and Mel spice things up and make every episode a joy to listen to. I started listening around…~2018? Maybe 19, but it’s been fascinating seeing this pod grow so much. I love what they do and I can’t recommend them enough. Nobody puts more hard work or effort into episodes than these Losers, and it is a joy to listen to their episodes (Patreon exclusives too!) Would absolutely recommend them and I would even go so far as to recommend the Patreon track for the great bonus content. Keep up the great work!

    I can’t listen anymore.
For a podcast based on King, the hatred the hosts have for every book or piece of writing King ever wrote is very confusing. However, once they had the man himself on the podcast they kissed up to him so royally after complaining about his work in every other episode that it had me sick to my stomach. I have no problem with them calling him out on outdated ideals or language, but they (mostly Randal and Mel) talk like they're so far above King in different ways and it drives me insane. Mel is not as intelligent as she pretends to be, and sometimes brings great insight to the pod but she's such a wet blanket at all times. She also seems to be the most frustrated with King. Her reasons are legit but if he makes her so angry, maybe she should stop doing the pod. Randal is the distilled essence of every theatre kid that has ever existed because he's been consuming entertainment as a job for way too long. I find him insufferable. I’m taking a stand. No more. Not another episode. There are other King podcasts that are more insightful and a few that are much more fun to listen to.

    Thank you for this pod
Great insights, in-depth discussion but it is the chemistry among the losers that makes me love this pod. Listening has helped me get through a rough time. They make the listener feel like part of an intimate community of like minded people. Mike Roffman is hilarious.

    Like a King book club
I’m new to Stephen King’s novels, which I now obsessively consume as often as I can. Although, I found this podcast late in my journey, it has been incredible to listen to other readers perception of the stories, and how they unfold while contemplating their meaning, and drawing references across the king universe to my attention. The way the podcast is broken down into different segments really goes deep into each story and has helped bring about, new thoughts and interesting takes that I may or may not have considered while reading each piece. The addition of short story, miniseries,, and movie reviews also also enhances the deep dive you take into the King universe. Highly recommended for fans of his works, and all of the adaptations.

    “Friends Song” by The Most
An incredible group doing deep dives into my favorite author. I discovered this podcast during a very rough transition in my life. Working my way back through King’s works alongside them was, honestly, instrumental in getting myself through to the other side. Thank you to all the Losers.

    The absolute best
It’s book club with a bunch of people that love hanging out and talking about Stephen King. They have nuanced and varied takes, so even the Tommyheads feel welcome 💚 What are you waiting for? Go listen to the Night Shift episodes or one of the SIX that cover IT

Like friends in the room with me
I’ve been a listener since 2017 and have enjoyed the ride. I feel like I’m the sole ‘Loser’ of my real life friend group, even down to using movie and tv quotes to bond with people. The LC feels like my lost tribe, and it’s always good to hear their banter back and forth. Always makes for an entertaining listen.

    All the King talk
Best Stephen King podcast out there. I just started reading Stephen King, and it’s great to hear the love and thoughts of his readings. After I read one of King’s titles, I will go back and listen to their thoughts. 5 out 5 Red Pennywise clown noses.

Surprise spoilers for unrelated stories :(
I've rediscovered my love of Stephen King over the past couple years and was excited when a friend recommended this Podcast. Overall I enjoyed the episodes I listened to about the books I've read. The eps on movies or TV I have seen weren't quite so enjoyable but made ok background filler as I ran errands or whatever. That is until the middle of an episode on The Langoliers when one of the talkers dropped a huge spoiler for the entire Dark Tower series! I was in the middle of reading the series and to have such a crucial plot twist casually ruined in a totally unrelated discussion was devastating. I cautiously listened to the first few eps of this podcast on purpose, and the few spoilers were clearly warned in advance so I was able to skip ahead. To have that spoiler thrown in with no warning has really degraded my enjoyment of the Dark Tower ever since :(

    My Favorite Podcast!
I don’t normally write reviews, but as a long time listener I just wanted to express how much I love this podcast! I first started listening in 2019 after It Chapter Two came out. I came for King and have stayed because of the Losers’ engaging commentary and hilarious tangents. Keep up the great work guys!

Enjoying working through the pod alongside reading King
Just finished Night Shift Pt. 2! I’m enjoying different perspectives on his novels especially since I am reading Kings works in chronological order. Have been stunned by some of your guys analysis so far. Especially during The Shining episode, due to you guys I’m now reading his novels in a whole new way. The different perspectives adds a lot more depth to King’s already very deep and sometimes not so deep (Lawnmower Man) stories. Cheers to the Losers Club! #greenpubes

A great listen. Ear worm intro and outro songs also. Excited for the coverage of The Dark Tower book 7 but also catching up on older episodes. Some hot takes: loved the Regulators and Duma Key. :)

The Best Part of a Stephen King Book
Ever since discovering this podcast, I find myself pushing to get to the end of my current King read just to get to their breakdown of it. Thanks for putting out something so enjoyable!!

    4.5 Stars
I like these guys, and I love King’s work, not his politics though, I mean, he was just recently supporting the Ministry of Truth 🙄 These guys are talking about red vs blue when the Governor of the Bank of England, who died in 1950, said they’d give us that meaninglessness to bicker over, Divide & Conquer 101, while they’re busy taking over the world. These guys still haven’t caught on in 2022 while the World Economic Forum is out in the open writing books and making videos boasting about their Great Reset. Dear God, help us.

    Call me a loser!
I’ve loved this pod since the start…liked it better in the early days but I still enjoy it immensely. I’ve tried other King pods but always come back to the losers! I don’t understand what the opening and closing music has to do with the theme of the podcast has to do with the theme of the show other than the hosts being a fan of the artist but if that’s my biggest complaint obviously I don’t have many!
  • Doug or
    No 11/22/63 episode?
Good podcast but how do you make that many shows and not a single 11/22/63 installment? One of his bestselling books, and relatively new. SMH bros.

4 bright red pennywise clown noses
Longtime listener, first time reviewer. I am loving this show! I even love some of the rants, I have burst out in laughter in public with my headphones in because some of the jokes you all tell. The Gerber brothers are the best. I have to take one clown nose away because there is just something so off-putting about the way Randall talks down to everyone including the listeners. He’s pretty bossy and negative, I hope he takes more of a back seat in the future, or just learns to be less condescending!

When They Don't King Themselves, It's Great
This podcast is fantastic to put on after you've finished one of King's books. It's structured in such a way that they never really get lost in the weeds... unless they conjure the dark spirit that is Stephen King's incredibly moronic Twitter persona. Instead of being a rational human who is like, "The best advice anyone with an IQ above 80 could give King is to get off Twitter and never return," they actually parrot his mind numbingly dumb tweets. I really like the episodes that Randle hosts because he seems to have a hold on things, and the episode where they discuss rocovery- maybe Dr. Sleep?- is also pretty great because there's a lived experience that really gave me some insight into what a difficult struggle addiction can be. If this crew could admit that King is tarnishing his legacy every day by revealing who he is as a person, I think it would be a lot better show, instead of them parroting ideas so dumb that it's a miracle Steve ever made it out of the trailer.

Love it when there's a new Stephen King podcast from the Loser’s Club! Can't wait for them to talk about Under the Some! 5 ✨✨✨✨✨
